Rush Limbaugh slammed for 'avoiding' eligibility

Limbaugh then launched into an in-depth lecture of his own role in the ongoing dispute:
[Joined in progress] . . .

RUSH LIMBAUGH
You've got me pegged wrong here. But I deal with what is. I don't deal with what-ifs. "If" is for children. And we've got certain things that are the reality of the day that have to be dealt with, pure and simple, and that's where I am on this. No more and no less. There's no magic wand that can get Obama unelected. You can hope and you can dream but you are locked in a fantasy if that's what you're waiting for. That isn't gonna happen. The focus needs to be on making sure he's not re-elected. But there is no way to unelect the guy. It isn't going to happen. Having said that, oh, yeah, I'm like all of you, I would love for this guy to be a total fraud when it comes to the birth certificates. He's a fraud on practically everything else. If he's born somewhere else, I would love for conclusive proof of that. That would be fun. Just to watch the Democrats and the media. That would be worth the price of admission and whatever they charge for it. But until such things happen, if, when, whatever, there's a reality that has to be dealt with day in and day out. ...

Just in case you didn't notice, I've recently posted quite a few stories to this blog that deal with the eligibility issue regarding President Obama. We can thank Donald Trump for ramping up the attention the story is receiving now. And now we can thank "Angela from Arnold, Mo." that called in to the Rush Limbaugh radio program, which lead to Rush saying what he really thinks about the issue.

Angela, the caller, really had it right when she mentioned, "...and if it does turn out that he is not a true citizen, then I think all of you should hang your heads in shame ... " The true shame is that some would not bother to investigate the story, because "there is no way to unelect the guy," Rush stated. "It isn't going to happen."

It ain't pretty. Actually, it is getting downright ugly, because "tea-partiers" are being blamed by both sides for the "birther" issue. The truth is, the eligibility issue began to be reported on (mostly by WND) in the summer of 2008, long before the tea parties got started.  The "birthers" just want the answers, like Angela says. When a few of the media detractors come from the Right, like Rush, Bill O'Reilly, or Glenn Beck, it hurts. And the shame may be that they haven't even tried to investigate so that we can eventually learn the truth.

I hope that Rush is wrong, for once, when he says, "It isn't going to happen.". I would seriously hope that if we ever find out that a person in ANY elected office had committed some kind of fraud to be elected, that person would face the consequences. That should apply to anyone that occupies the Oval Room (between golf games). I'm just sayin'....

Rush Limbaugh slammed for 'avoiding' eligibility
'Not 1 high Republican or you has ever really tried to nail' Obama

Radio giant Rush Limbaugh came under fire today from a caller to his top-rated program accusing the host of avoiding the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be president.

"The fact of the matter is that his citizenship has been a suspicious issue from the very beginning," said Angela from Arnold, Mo., "and not one high Republican or you has ever really tried to nail him on this issue, and if it does turn out that he is not a true citizen, then I think all of you should hang your heads in shame because of all the destruction our country has had to suffer ever since he was elected, in spite of being the fraud that we know he probably really is."

Limbaugh asked incredulously, "So you're mad at me?"

"I am furious," Angela responded. "I wanted you and anybody else to go after him on this issue before he was elected. It would have been the easiest way to have stopped him. It would have been a no-brainer. But nobody would. And so he was elected and everything was just hidden under the rug. And now look what we have had ever since. ... If it does turn out that he's not a citizen, I think you should hang your head in shame, because our country has suffered so much."

Limbaugh said irrespective of Obama not having produced his long-form, hospital-specified birth certificate, "I gotta remind you there is no evidence whatsoever Obama was not born in Hawaii. There's something he doesn't want us to see about the birth certificate, but there's nothing to glom onto here other than his reticence in having the birth certificate seen. I am the only one who proclaimed the guy a fraud. I'm the one who did not go along with Obama. I'm the one who said I hope he failed. I'm the guy who took all the arrows for a whole Republican Party and everybody else for suggesting this guy was a fraud and filled with deceit, that he's not who he said he was on the basis of policy and the things that he had planned for this country."

The caller continued to press Limbaugh, saying, "The fact that there was no evidence was the very reason why you should have gone forward. I have evidence that I'm a citizen. Why didn't he have to produce the evidence? Nobody made him do it. Not even you, and you and everyone else should have made him provide the evidence."

Video provided by MrTimotheus85 on Apr 8, 2011

Angela explained her anger stemmed from the fact that real-estate tycoon and potential Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was now doing the job she thought Limbaugh and other GOP types should be doing investigating Obama's background.

Talk radio gave conservatism wings ~ By Barry Farber

If you who oppose this thesis can swallow this one pill, you may qualify for eventual recovery. Rush Limbaugh's genius is not the reason for his success. His conservatism is. If an equally gifted liberal were to come on the air, he would fail. Limbaugh's genius is a reinforcer, an expander and an enhancer; not a cause. And "ditto" the fate of a "Hannity" as handy with the language on the left as Sean is on the right.

You liberals decrying the success of conservative talk radio and trying feverishly to emulate it deserve one feeble compliment. You do remind me of all those untiring agenda-crats who, by consent, ignored a perfect fit and kept trying tirelessly to mash the glass slipper onto Cinderella's sister's foot.
Barry Farber discusses how talk radio allowed the American people to finally get an opportunity to offer their feedback to the source of information. And when this finally happened, the feedback was Conservative. Barry offers the suggestion that as brilliant as talk hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are, they would not have been successful had their message been liberal. This might explain why Liberals hate the Conservative talk radio shows. It hurt Progressivism when Americans with Conservative values found out that they weren't alone!

In medieval Europe, people thought trees gave birth to birds. There's a medieval notion in modern America that talk radio is the former choir boy who dropped out, took up alcohol and drugs, went mad, tortured turtles and plotted more and wilder ways to defame and destroy our beautiful America.

Newspapers shook their heads sadly at the trajectory of their fallen siblings in talk radio and remained "normal," meaning liberal. So did almost all magazines, books, movies, plays and television; except, of course, those awful shows that tried to mimic talk radio. Is there possibly another explanation why talk radio looms as the Peck's Bad Boy of American media while virtually all other media remain "OK," again, meaning liberal? I suggest there is, and I further suggest the left will continue to peck at it even though its truth is impeccable.

Newspapers are written by a staff hired by the owners. The editorial policy is set by those who inhabit what we used to call the "Bubble Room." Sure, there are letters to the editor, half-a-dozen a day or more; all selected and edited by the editors. Magazines are similar. As more and more conservative books succeed, the ramparts are eroding; but if you wish to see President Obama limited to a single term, don't propose that voting next time be limited to those who work for major American publishing houses. The message of a book is unchallenged within its covers. After the author concludes, there's no chapter consisting of "Letters to the author" disputing his views.

It's a technical insult to you readers to spend more than one word extending this reasoning to movies. The word "Hollywood" is sufficient, and there are no additional scenes tacked on to the end of the film presenting "Letters to the director" with alternate points of view. After a play, on opening night only, you may hear the cry "Author!" ring out, but that's an appeal for applause, not a cross-examination of the playwright's politics.

TV dramas, game shows, reality shows, comedy shows and network news don't give us a chance to criticize their facts, attitude or ideology. The rare exception when a plain-old-viewer's contrary opinion is offered, it's done with a flourish appropriate to the Bastille being stormed and democracy restored to the nation.

The only medium that lets the general public into the act – like Andrew Jackson let the riff-raff into the White House – is talk radio. And the rest is simple. Editors, producers, directors, authors, playwrights and media-owners are often talented and praiseworthy people. But move them off-stage, please, for this one snapshot. WHEN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE ADMITTED TO TAKE PART, THE RESULT WILL BE CONSERVATIVE!

'Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One' ~ By Joseph Farah

Joseph recounts his experience with (the newlywed) Rush Limbaugh while Farah was editor-in-chief of the Sacramento Union newspaper.
There are probably a million Rush Limbaugh stories out there like mine. That one isn't included in Zev Chafets' book. But the author has uncovered a number of great anecdotes in "Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One."

If you like Rush, you'll like the book. If you don't like him, you will at least get a better understanding of what makes him tick. And if you hate him, you're going to have trouble maintaining that venom.

Rush Limbaugh has been a cultural counter-force for more than 20 years, but only now has he been treated fairly in a biography that captures the essence of his personality and his influence on the American scene.

The book is "Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One" by Zev Chafets.

For me, reading through the breezy but meticulously researched work is like reliving the last 20 years. It was exactly 20 years ago that I first met Rush Limbaugh. The Rush Limbaugh I met back then was exactly the one described by Chafets – unassuming, unpretentious, generous, a brilliant artist and social commentator.

I met Rush when I needed a favor in 1990. Having recently been named editor-in-chief of the Sacramento Union, the oldest daily West of the Mississippi, I knew I had my hands full. The independent paper had been going through rough times and facing fierce competition from one of the biggest media corporations in the world.

Sacramento was unfamiliar to me, having spent the previous 12 years in Los Angeles. In hopes of saving the paper from what most observers predicted was imminent demise, I looked around town for a single personality who captured the imagination of the circulation area – not just the politically correct city, but the sprawling million-plus market of the upper Central Valley.

One cool, breezy summer morning in 1990, I was walking along Capitol Mall amid bumper-to-bumper traffic. Interestingly, I could hear a single voice from the open car windows as I covered block after block.

The mellifluous voice belonged to none other than Rush. It was not a strange voice to me. I had previously heard him do his local show in New York and, for the last year or so, had listened to him daily on his nationally syndicated show in Los Angeles. But here he was talking to the town he boasted of "owning." Now I knew what he meant.

Rush had higher penetration of the Sacramento market than any other in the nation, perhaps he still does, because it was the market where he developed his chops with a local show on KFBK.

I had my answer. Now all I had to do was persuade the Great One, as I called him, to lend a hand to saving the Sacramento Union.

My plan was to get him to write an exclusive column for the paper and, also, somehow convince him to help me promote it on his show.

When I reached him, I was shocked to hear that he always wanted to write for the Sacramento Union during his years at KFBK – but the "conservative" paper wouldn't have him. No wonder this paper was going out of business, I thought.

Since he seemed so amenable, I pushed my luck. I asked him to write a daily column for the front page and record radio spots promoting it. Let's just say he did it all and it certainly wasn't for the chump change I could afford to pay him.

The formula worked.

The column was a big hit.

And we leveraged some advertising deals to play the spots as often as possible during Rush's show on "the flamethrower of the Central Valley," KFBK.

The spots went something like this: "Are you sick and tired of the liberal bias in the media? Well, in Sacramento, you've got an alternative – the Sacramento Union."

Left acts to shut down talk radio ~ By Roger Hedgecock

"Debate, dissent, disagreement – it's just so distracting." Oh, of course, that would be something that the commie in Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, would say, right? Or wait, you mean that there are people that would say this in America where we have the 1st Amendment? Tell me it ain't so! Unfortunately, Roger can't tell me that, because in this column he tells us about a few loud mouth loony lefties in this country that think that way. Scary stuff. Just sayin'...
Talk radio informs and drives the debate in this country like no other part of American media, particularly now that radio and the Internet have begun to merge.

Is this a threat to "The Party Line is the Truth" crowd? In Sarah Palin's immortal words, "You betcha!"

As the tea-party movement has shown, if the left wants to fall back on its bully boy ways to intimidate radio stations, supporters will turn out in far larger numbers to protect and defend talk radio's right to exist.

Since early 2008, with the failure of leftist competitor Air America, the left has been scheming to shut down conservative talk radio – the only part of American media not dominated by the left. It's all in the name of "fairness," of course.

The Obama "transformation of America" has been slowed and, in some cases, derailed by talk radio-driven discussions, debate and demonstrations.

With elections looming that threaten leftist control of the federal government, the scheming is over. The left is taking action.

Citizens for Civility and Accountability in Media, or CCAM, has been formed specifically to pressure radio stations to fire popular conservative talk hosts. First target: Fresno, Calif., talker KMJ (AM and FM).

In the name of CCAM, Les Kimber, former president of the West Coast Black Publishers Association and publisher of the California Advocate newspaper in Fresno, joined by Ellie Bluestein, formerly Raging Grandmas of CodePink, demonstrated outside the studios of KMJ last Thursday demanding that KMJ fire Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other conservative talk hosts for spreading hate and inciting violence.

Kimber charged that "KMJ programming is dominated by ... talk hosts that are anti-government, anti-President Obama ..." He went on to declare that this kind of talk "creates an atmosphere of divisiveness that allows for the real possibility of violence toward elected officials including the president of the United States."

He offered no examples of this connection between critical talk and subsequent violence because there are none to offer – unless you attend one of the lectures given by radical imams.

During the Bush years, criticism and dissent were "patriotic." Today, the left embraces its inner censor.

Bluestein, a lifelong leftist (Hands Off Cuba Committee to CodePink) asserted at the demonstration that "radio stations should be responsible for telling the truth" – only her "truth," of course.

Catching herself playing censor, she quickly added, "I have no problem with a radio station expressing a point of view, but I do not believe a radio station has the right to mislead the public." Heavens no, Ellie. There's only one truth, isn't there? Debate, dissent, disagreement – it's just so distracting.

Toxic talk of right-wing radio ~ By Bill Press

That a boy, Bill! You not only were able to vent your frustrations, and possibly help you with your depression, but you even managed to plug your book! You did us all a big, huge favor, too, Bill. You helped to prove the hypocrisy of the Progressives, and you were able to do it without actually calling anyone a racist for not agreeing with Barack Hussein Obama!

But, I'm sorry, I have to tell you, Mr. Press, that this column was ridiculous, to the point of being outright ignorant. Do you have ANY idea of why people love talk-radio with the Conservative talk hosts? It is because once Reagan did away with the Fairness Doctrine, Conservatives finally got a chance to make use of radio so that WE could finally have a place to voice our views! And thank God, Bill, because now Conservatives also have our blogs, WorldNetDaily.com, and Fox News! So, Bill, look out for all that extra "vitriol" that will be coming your way!

And Bill, I sure hope that Progressives follow your advice: "What's the answer? Progressives need to get in the game by buying their own radio stations, for starters." Yep, that's the ticket! There's nothing better than broke Progressives! Once they are broke, they won't be able to throw all that money towards George Soros and Socialist candidates anymore. I mean, Bill, you said it yourself: "Talk radio's not rocket science. It's based on a simple formula: listeners equal ratings equal revenue. No listeners, no ratings, no revenue. If you don't want more hate-filled talk radio, simply turn it off." And that, dear liberal Bill, is why Progressives can not make it in talk radio. They simply can't grow an audience like Rush and Glenn have, because nobody is interested in anything that Progressives would say.

Oh, there's one more last thing I need to mention, Bill. There is a huge difference between vitriol and truth. You should try to learn that... Really! Just sayin'...

Censorship's clearly not the answer. The First Amendment protects all speech, even ugly speech. It also guarantees every American the right to make a fool of himself, as long as there are enough other fools willing to listen.

Which, in the end, is the only immediate answer. Talk radio's not rocket science. It's based on a simple formula: listeners equal ratings equal revenue. No listeners, no ratings, no revenue. If you don't want more hate-filled talk radio, simply turn it off.

It's getting ugly out there. And I'm not the only one to say so.

"The political atmosphere obviously has been toxic," said Utah Sen. Bob Bennett after being rejected by his fellow Republicans for a fourth term. "Throwing around phrases like 'socialists' and 'Soviet-style takeover,' 'fascists' and 'right-wing nut' – that may grab headlines," President Obama recently told graduates of the University of Michigan, "but it also undermines democracy."

Both were lamenting the increasingly ugly rhetoric that has replaced legitimate debate about the issues today on right-wing talk radio. It's the very phenomenon I explore in my new book – "TOXIC TALK: How the Radical Right Has Poisoned America's Airwaves."

Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting we all join hands and sing "Kumbaya." How boring. There's nothing more fun or healthier for our democracy than good, old-fashioned, spirited, passionate, colorful, hard-hitting debate on the issues. I'm talking about the lively debates I enjoyed on CNN's "Crossfire" with Bob Novak, Pat Buchanan, Mary Matalin, John Sununu and Tucker Carlson.

But that's not what we hear nonstop today. Honest disagreement on the issues has been replaced by a barrage of ugly name-calling from today's ministers of hate on the right.

Hate-monger No. 1? Rush Limbaugh still holds the title. Without providing any evidence from her speeches or writing, he daily calls Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan a "socialist" and accuses Democrats of rushing into confirmation hearings "before her radicalism is understood by the public." By nominating her, suggests the ferocious talkmeister, President Obama is guilty of "plotting to overthrow core American values."

Giving Limbaugh a run for his money in the hate department is Fox News and radio talker Glenn Beck. By criticizing Arizona's recently enacted anti-immigration law, Beck charges, President Obama is deliberately "trying to destroy the country" and "pushing America toward civil war." This, of course, is the same talk-show host who, in total ignorance of the Gospels, warned Christians to run out of their churches if they ever hear the words "social justice" or "economic justice." Because, according to Beck, those are just code words for communism and Nazism.

Unfortunately, Limbaugh and Beck are not the only masters of vitriol on the radio microphone. Sean Hannity asked the loaded question about President Obama: "Is there anything that he likes about this country?" Mark Levin attacked Sonia Sotomayor as a "radical leftist" and a "bigot." Michael Savage, perhaps the most vicious of all, once told a gay caller: "You should only get AIDS and die, you pig." He called Rep. Dennis Kucinich a "whore" for voting for health care.

And that's what passes for talk radio today: pure, unadulterated hate talk, almost exclusively from the right. You never hear those kinds of ugly comments from progressive talkers Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, or Thom Hartmann, if you can find them on your radio dial at all. And that's not easy. Ever since 1987 and the end of the Fairness Doctrine, which freed station owners from having to provide any balance on the air, conservatives have dominated talk radio. To the point where today, according to a 2007 report of the Center for American Progress, there are at least 10 hours of right-wing talk for every one hour of progressive talk.

Rush Limbaugh: 'Thank you, Mr. President!'

Rush Limbaugh thanks President Obama for all the things that Obama has done that will make the election in November so easy for the Republicans to win. Brace yourselves, folks, just watch the video and hear all the things that Rush mentions the many ways that Obama has aroused "the sleeping, silent majority" in this segment.
Limbaugh concluded: "But most of all, Mr. President, thank you for arousing the sleeping, silent majority, because we have been asleep too long.

"November is coming, Mr. President," Limbaugh warned. "That is when we will really thank you."
Grateful to Obama 'for arousing the sleeping, silent majority'

© 2010 WorldNetDaily

Playing off of President Obama's remark to Democrat donors yesterday that tea-party protesters should be thanking him instead of protesting his policies, talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh on his show today ran off a string of reasons he's grateful to Obama, culminating with "arousing the sleeping, silent majority" who are prepared to give his party an unprecedented thrashing at the polls in November.

Obama was speaking in Miami at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

"Since today happens to be tax day, I should just point out that one-third of the recovery act went to tax cuts. Tax cuts that strengthen the cornerstone of the American dream," Obama began.

Lowering his tone of voice in an apparent aside, he then shared with the Democrat donors that he had been "a little amused over the last couple of days where people have been having these rallies, about taxes."

"You would think they would be saying thank you," Obama said to laughter from the audience. "That's what you'd think."

Video provided by rightscoop
After playing the clip on his show today, Limbaugh commented: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is a classic illustration of authoritarian mocking control. He hasn't cut anybody's taxes. The recovery act stimulus bill – it's more like loaves and fishes. There are no tax cuts in that. There were some tax credits. It's all bogus.

"But he wants to be thanked," Limbaugh continued. "OK, I will oblige."

The Listener ~ by Timothy Lavin

From The Atlantic

Profile January/February 2010 Atlantic

For four hours every night, on holidays and weekends, George Noory is the voice in the darkness for millions of Americans. His show, Coast to Coast AM, has perfected a charged and conspiratorial worldview that now pervades American media. It’s quite possibly the oddest show ever to cross our airwaves. And it may change the radio business forever.

by Timothy Lavin

George Noory, host of Coast to Coast A.M.The Listener

Every night, when most of the world has drifted into unconsciousness, some 30 percent of the American population stays awake. They’re truckers, insomniacs, night-shift workers, or just people who like to stay up late. They tend to adhere to a different set of norms. For one thing, in an age of digital distraction, they connect with enthusiasm to a decidedly analog device: they listen to the radio for longer periods, with greater attention, and with greater loyalty than do audiences at any other time of the day. They tend to listen alone—alone in bed, alone on a highway, alone in the world—and find that a voice in the darkness offers a bond with a wider community. Perhaps you’re one of them. Or perhaps, if you’ve ever driven across country in the dark, or flipped on the radio because you couldn’t sleep, you know the feeling.

You might also have caught a glimpse into one of the odder realms of modern media. Lately, night people listen, in huge numbers, to a syndicated program called Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. It’s by far the most popular overnight show in the country. And it’s probably the most successful program of its kind ever aired. But just what kind of program it is, no one can quite say. Its topical breadth alone defies categorization: aliens, time travel, 9/11 conspiracies, suspicious murders, vampires, mediated telepathy, birds of unusual size. Shadow People seem to show up a lot. Every evening, Coast to Coast offers a running commentary on what keeps people awake, in fear or fascination, through what Keats called the “unslumbrous night.”

And on such vague apprehensions, George Noory—a man of long radio experience, indeterminate politics, and ominous generality—is likely the world’s foremost authority. His show is more than a curiosity: it has propelled overnight radio from commercial obscurity into radiant profitability, and has helped set a tone that, both thematically and rhetorically, now pervades American media. In the process, it has become perhaps the most complete chronicle of our strange national anxieties ever agglomerated. And these are very anxious times.

FCC not only agency seeking media regulation

From WorldNetDaily
Obama chief Sunstein drew up 'New Deal Fairness Doctrine' Posted: October 23, 2009 ~ 11:07 am Eastern By Aaron Klein © 2009 WorldNetDaily Cass SusteinThe Federal Communications Commission's unanimous support yesterday for a rule that would open the door to government regulation of the Internet has raised the concern of free speech advocates, but there are other members of the Obama administration who support similar measures. The president's newly confirmed regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, drew up a "First Amendment New Deal," a new "fairness doctrine" that would include the establishment of a panel of "nonpartisan experts" to ensure "diversity of view" on the airwaves. Sunstein compared the need for the government to regulate broadcasting to the moral obligation of the U.S. to impose new rules that outlawed segregation. Sunstein's radical proposal, set forth in his 1993 book "The Partial Constitution," received no news media attention and little scrutiny. In the book – obtained and reviewed by WND – Sunstein outwardly favors and promotes the "fairness doctrine," the abolished FCC policy that required holders of broadcast licenses to present controversial issues of public importance in a manner the government deemed was "equitable and balanced." Barack's enemies list ~ By David Limbaugh

From WorldNetDaily
David Limbaugh By David Limbaugh Posted: October 20, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 Sorry to disillusion those of you who are still in denial about President Barack Obama's true socialistic and dictatorial nature, but this guy's militancy against his perceived enemies puts Richard Nixon's White House to shame. His war on Fox News is just his latest salvo. Obama's perceived enemies are all those who have the temerity not to roll over for his extreme agenda. They all must be demonized, marginalized and silenced by a president who has turned the Oval Office into a glorified street-organizing headquarters to attack his opponents. Indeed, this self-described uniter is the most divisive president in memory, and his uncontrollable ego can't countenance legitimate dissent. Consider: [Skipping down to the last two items on David's list of Obama's abuses of power]
  • He has abused the office of the presidency to personally attack Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and conservative talk radio in general. As we speak, his "czars" are devising schemes to shut down that very medium.
  • Now he has launched an orchestrated attack against the only television network that makes a sincere effort at offering balance, Fox News Channel, in an attempt to isolate, demonize and delegitimize the organization because it won't follow suit and join the state-run media. The administration is vacillating between boycotting and allowing some administration officials to appear on the network. Obama singled Fox out as "entirely devoted to attacking my administration." Rahm Emanuel said it's "not a news organization so much as it has a perspective." David Axelrod said, "It's really not news; it's pushing a point of view." Axelrod implored ABC's George Stephanopoulos and his network "not to treat (Fox) as a news organization." White House communications director Anita Dunn, who has bragged about her success at controlling the media, said Fox is "like a wing of the Republican Party" that "spouts Republican talking points."

Michael Savage Declares His Retirement From Talk Radio - August 14, 2009

This is major news! Conservative radio talk show host Dr. Michael Savage made the announcement on August 14, 2009 during his show, that he was retiring from talk radio. The question is, when. Savage says it will be as soon as he gets off list of people not allowed in Great Britain and clears his name. He says it will be within a year, "by hook or by crook." I learned of this news while on twitter from one of my friends there, newsguy2005. on Dr. Michael Savage's radio show. He has been on the radio for 15 years. I've never had a chance to listen to Dr. Savage's shows, but I know who he is, and I would love to read his books someday. In the video below, Michael Savage will explain when and why he is leaving radio and what he'll do after his retirement.

Scary times for free speech ~ By Joseph Farah

There's a real war against free speech in America. That war is being waged on many fronts, orchestrated by government, cheered by brain-dead ideological zealots and fought in the gutter with mud-slinging intimidation tactics. What are those people afraid of? Debate, dissenting opinions, reasoned discussion, and most of all, the fear of the truth. read more | digg story

31 horsemen of talk radio's apocalypse? ~ By Drew Zahn

FCC anoints 'diversity' panel with 'Fairness Doctrine' mission: The Federal Communications Commission has announced the roster of a new advisory committee on "diversity" in communications, a move many critics have warned would mark the beginning of government regulation of talk radio and a reinstallation of the "Fairness Doctrine" by another name. read more | digg story

The 2009 TIME 100: Rush Limbaugh ~ By Glenn Beck

Glenn says that, "Knowing firsthand just how hard it is to hold an audience's attention for a few hours makes it that much more amazing to have seen Rush do it for more than 20 years. To say that he has set the standard for success in broadcasting would truly be an understatement." Rush truly saved the talk radio format from obscurity. read more | digg story

Obama's war on free speech ~ By Joseph Farah

Barack Obama and congressional Democrats are intent on nationalizing media in the U.S. They want to create "community advisory boards" of community activists to monitor the content of talk-radio programs, give billions to public broadcasting networks, and give bailouts of failing newspapers perceived as essential propaganda tools for the party. read more | digg story

Saul Alinsky Takes the White House ~ By Quin Hillyer

By Quin Hillyer on 11.6.08 @ 6:09AM Conservatives may not realize just how difficult it might be to recover from this week's elections. The day after the big defeat, the conservative chatter everywhere was about how the "movement" and the Republican Party (two different things) could finally unshackle themselves from the bad old habits that brought them down, and about how the ability to draw a sharp contrast with the Obama/Pelosi/Reid triumvirate would allow us to focus attention, rally the faithful, and re-storm the castle in 2010 and 2012. Fat chance. Too many conservatives think we've seen all this before -- in 1964 and 1974 and 1992 -- and that we know how to handle it. Fly, meet ointment: We're not dealing with the same sorts of opponents. These New Alinskyites who are taking over the White House, combined with the most leftist congressional leadership in memory, will not let us play by the same rules under which conservatives recovered from those earlier debacles. They will try to drastically tilt the playing field, seed our side of the field with land mines and, in short, rig the process to make it next to impossible for the political right, or Republicans, to recover. And they are likely to succeed in at least some of these designs. It will begin with their efforts to secure a filibuster-proof majority of 60 senators (including the two independents). Right now the libs (and yes, all the Democratic senators, with the possible exception of Nebraska's Ben Nelson, are libs) have 56, with three Republican moderates and one conservative leading their races but awaiting recounts or runoffs. Watch for the Alinskyites to try stealing all four, and to succeed in at least two. We've seen this game before. They did it in Indiana's "Bloody Eighth" congressional district in 1984. They almost succeeded in 2000 in Florida. They did succeed, outrageously so, in the Washington State governor's race in 2004. Those are just the most obvious of many similar examples. And now they are even more ruthless, more lawyered-up, and in a more powerful position to pull it off than they were in any of those instances. [Continue reading]

YouTube star Bob Basso summoned to White House... Disturbing!

The man who created two phenomenally successful "We The People" YouTube videos urging Americans to stand up against Congress and reclaim their republic now, or perhaps lose it forever, reportedly has been summoned to the White House by President Obama "to discuss the disturbing nature of the videos." (Well, just exactly what does that mean?) Disturbing! The first of the Bob Basso as "Thomas Paine" videos:

'Broadcast my radio show or you're unfair' - Roger Hedgecock

By Roger Hedgecock March 16, 2009 Last Friday, I was invited by Radio and Records to speak at a talk radio seminar on a panel discussing the "Fairness Doctrine." Roger Hedgecock As one of the panelists (Rep. Mike Pence) said, "I didn't know what I was getting into here. All I heard was I was going to L.A. for some R&R!" By the end of our session, it was very clear that free market capitalism is under attack, not only at the macro level by the Obama administration, but at the industry level (in this case, the radio industry) as well. Moderated by the effervescent Rita Crosby, four of us on the panel (Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., and Mike Pence, R-Ind., legendary talk programmer Brian Jennings and myself) stood up for competition and giving the listening public the programming content of their choice. Three other panel members (Thom Hartmann, Air America; Stephanie Miller, Dial Global; and Paul "Woody" Woodhull, Media Syndication Services) thought the FCC should require station ownership to be "diverse" and should require talk stations to carry liberal/progressive talk shows. The two congressmen led off detailing their efforts in Congress to ban the liberal/progressive censorship effort known as the "Fairness Doctrine." They noted the many Democrat representatives who had publicly championed the reimposition of the "Fairness Doctrine" specifically to muzzle critics in conservative talk radio. I followed with more facts. Of 4,789 AM radio stations in the U.S., about 2,000 of them program some kind of talk, whether political, health, car repair, gardening, relationships, etc. These stations, together with satellite services, cable radio, the Internet, and now even iPod radio give the consumer limitless choices and eliminate the original reason for the "Fairness Doctrine" – that a few station owners could monopolize political discussion. I quoted the Durbin Amendment (SA 591) to the D.C. voting bill (S. 160) that orders the FCC to require "diversity" in station ownership and "localism" – two code words for censoring conservative talk radio and a back-door method of reimposing the "Fairness Doctrine." I detailed President Obama's history of advocating the use of the FCC to regulate which views are heard on the radio. I took the audience through the "stimulus" package (noting that the desk on which Obama signed it was the same desk where Clinton got his package stimulated) which provides $2 billion for "community groups" to help fund "community advisory committees" for every talk station so that conservative talk hosts become subject to a barrage of FCC complaints. The Party of Rush

Who's in charge of the GOP? When someone finds out, let the rest of us know. By Rick Moran For nearly 20 years, Rush Limbaugh has bestridden the political landscape with a power and influence that transcended his talk radio niche, crossing over into the rarefied air of cultural icon. With a combination of a hail-fellow-well-met joie de vivre and a biting, sometimes vicious adder-like tongue, Limbaugh has parlayed a well-honed shtick that combines popcorn sized bites of conservative wisdom with large chunks of political red meat into a career that has made him one of the wealthiest personalities in radio. Limbaugh does not fit any of the comfortable definitions that liberals and the media love to apply to conservatives. Calling him a mere talk show host is simply wrong. Limbaugh has crossed the cultural divide and, like President Obama, he has become more than a political figure (or entertainer) and achieved a peculiar kind of celebrity. [Continue reading]

Larry Elder: It's not the economy, stupid – it's Limbaugh

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," the newly installed President Obama told Capitol Hill Republicans. Chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, just days ago, called the popular conservative radio talk show host "the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party." If things go wrong, just blame Rush Limbaugh. read more | digg story
