Left acts to shut down talk radio ~ By Roger Hedgecock

"Debate, dissent, disagreement – it's just so distracting." Oh, of course, that would be something that the commie in Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, would say, right? Or wait, you mean that there are people that would say this in America where we have the 1st Amendment? Tell me it ain't so! Unfortunately, Roger can't tell me that, because in this column he tells us about a few loud mouth loony lefties in this country that think that way. Scary stuff. Just sayin'...

Talk radio informs and drives the debate in this country like no other part of American media, particularly now that radio and the Internet have begun to merge.

Is this a threat to "The Party Line is the Truth" crowd? In Sarah Palin's immortal words, "You betcha!"

As the tea-party movement has shown, if the left wants to fall back on its bully boy ways to intimidate radio stations, supporters will turn out in far larger numbers to protect and defend talk radio's right to exist.

Since early 2008, with the failure of leftist competitor Air America, the left has been scheming to shut down conservative talk radio – the only part of American media not dominated by the left. It's all in the name of "fairness," of course.

The Obama "transformation of America" has been slowed and, in some cases, derailed by talk radio-driven discussions, debate and demonstrations.

With elections looming that threaten leftist control of the federal government, the scheming is over. The left is taking action.

Citizens for Civility and Accountability in Media, or CCAM, has been formed specifically to pressure radio stations to fire popular conservative talk hosts. First target: Fresno, Calif., talker KMJ (AM and FM).

In the name of CCAM, Les Kimber, former president of the West Coast Black Publishers Association and publisher of the California Advocate newspaper in Fresno, joined by Ellie Bluestein, formerly Raging Grandmas of CodePink, demonstrated outside the studios of KMJ last Thursday demanding that KMJ fire Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other conservative talk hosts for spreading hate and inciting violence.

Kimber charged that "KMJ programming is dominated by ... talk hosts that are anti-government, anti-President Obama ..." He went on to declare that this kind of talk "creates an atmosphere of divisiveness that allows for the real possibility of violence toward elected officials including the president of the United States."

He offered no examples of this connection between critical talk and subsequent violence because there are none to offer – unless you attend one of the lectures given by radical imams.

During the Bush years, criticism and dissent were "patriotic." Today, the left embraces its inner censor.

Bluestein, a lifelong leftist (Hands Off Cuba Committee to CodePink) asserted at the demonstration that "radio stations should be responsible for telling the truth" – only her "truth," of course.

Catching herself playing censor, she quickly added, "I have no problem with a radio station expressing a point of view, but I do not believe a radio station has the right to mislead the public." Heavens no, Ellie. There's only one truth, isn't there? Debate, dissent, disagreement – it's just so distracting.

The Chinese of 2010 call to mind 19th-century Americans who shoved aside Mexicans, Indians and Spanish to populate a continent, build a mighty nation, challenge the British Empire – superpower of the day – and swiftly move past her in manufacturing to become first nation on earth. Men were as awed by America then as they are by China today.

America seems a declining superpower. She cannot defend her borders, balance her budgets or win her wars. Her educational system at the primary and secondary level is a shambles. In the first decade of the century, she lost one of every three manufacturing jobs. In this second decade, she is looking at trillion-dollar deficits to 2020. The world is losing confidence in her ability to manage her surging national debt.

"Thank you, Hu Jintao, and thank you, China," said Hugo Chavez, as he announced a $20 billion loan from Beijing, to be repaid in Venezuelan oil.

The Chinese just threw Chavez a life-preserver. For Venezuela is reeling from 25 percent inflation, government-induced blackouts to cope with energy shortages and an economy that shrank by 3.3 percent in 2009.

Where did China get that $20 billion? From us. From consumers at Wal-Mart. That $20 billion is 1 percent of the $2 trillion in trade surpluses Beijing has run up with the United States over two decades.

Beijing is using its trillions of dollars in reserves, piled up from exports to America, to cut deals to lock up strategic resources for the coming struggle with the United States for hegemony in Asia and the world.

She has struck multibillion-dollar deals with Sudan, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and Australia to secure a steady supply of oil, gas and vital minerals to maintain the 10 percent to 12 percent annual growth China has been racking up since Deng Xiaoping dispensed with Maoism and set his nation out on the capitalist road.

China has dozens of nuclear-power plants under construction, has completed the Three Gorges Dam – the largest power source on earth – and is tying the nation together with light rail, bullet trains and highways in infrastructure projects unlike any the world has ever seen.

Contrast what China is doing with what we are about. We have declared vast regions of our country, onshore and offshore, off-limits to drilling for oil and gas. We have not built a nuclear-power plant in 30 years or a refinery in 25 years. We have declared war on fossil fuels to save the planet from global warming.

Given the power of the environmental lobby to tie up projects in endless litigation, we could never today build our Interstate Highway System, Hoover Dam, the TVA or the Union Pacific Railroad.

Determined to take America's title as the world's first manufacturing nation, as she has taken Germany's title as the world's leading exporter, China keeps her currency undervalued and demands of those who sell to China that they also produce in China. As America's share of the world economy steadily falls, China's share has doubled. This year, China will overtake Japan as the world's second-largest economy.

Investigator accuses Hillary of Chinagate, Part 2

On her current Middle East trip, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed worry that Iran is "moving toward" a military dictatorship, and an investigator who uncovered the "Chinagate" scandal when her husband was president now is wondering whether this careful wording is "ChinaGate, Part 2."

The original "Chinagate," documented on the Judicial Watch website, was uncovered by Judicial Watch founder Larry Klayman. Technology companies allegedly made donations of millions of dollars to various Democratic Party entities, including President Bill Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign, in return for permission to sell high-tech secrets to China.

Bernard Schwartz and his Loral Space & Communication Ltd. later allegedly "helped China to identify the cause of [a rocket failure], thereby advancing China's missile program and threatening U.S. national security," according to records.

Now Klayman, who went on to found Freedom Watch USA, is interested in some answers that Hillary Clinton could provide.

"Why is Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration refusing to challenge the radical Islamic regime in Iran over its systematic imprisonment, torture and extermination of its own people?" Klayman asked today.

"Incredibly, Secretary of State Clinton was quoted as saying, 'We see that the government of Iran, the supreme leader, the president, the parliament, is being supplanted and that Iran is moving toward a military dictatorship?'" he said.

"Mrs. Clinton obviously knows that Islamic Iranian regime is already a Hitler-like dictatorship, comprised of neo-Nazis who imprison, torture and murder anyone who opposes them. That she would say the country is only moving in that direction is not naivete," Klayman said.

"Could it be that she is on the Iranian regime's payroll, just as was the case when she orchestrated the 'Chinagate' scandal from the Clinton White House?" he questioned.

A spokeswoman at the U.S. State Department told WND there would be no comment on the issue.

Northern California's 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake was more violent, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, resulting in 63 deaths and 3,757 injuries. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, about eight times more violent than Haiti's, and cost 3,000 lives. As tragic as the Haitian calamity is, it is merely symptomatic of a far deeper tragedy that's completely ignored, namely self-inflicted poverty. The reason why natural disasters take fewer lives in our country is because we have greater wealth. It's our wealth that permits us to build stronger homes and office buildings. When a natural disaster hits us, our wealth provides the emergency personnel, heavy machinery and medical services to reduce the death toll and suffering. Haitians cannot afford the life-saving tools that we Americans take for granted. President Barack Obama called the quake "especially cruel and incomprehensible." He would be closer to the truth if he had said that the Haitian political and economic climate that make Haitians helpless in the face of natural disasters are "especially cruel and incomprehensible." The biggest reason for Haiti being one of the world's poorest countries is its restrictions on economic liberty. Let's look at some of it. According to the 2009 Index of Economic Freedom, authorization is required for some foreign investments, such as in electricity, water, public health and telecommunications. Authorization requires bribing public officials and, as a result, Haiti's monopolistic telephone services can at best be labeled primitive. All manner of parasites, vermin, roaches, rats, worms and termites find their way into the building. Long before they're detected, they infiltrate the walls, the floors, the roofs – and then chew their way into the structure, the supporting beams and the very foundation of the house itself. Silently, surreptitiously, whole communities of invaders make places for themselves, hidden but thriving, totally unknown by the homeowner. Then, in time, tell-tale signs are seen. Little droppings, discolored trails, proliferating piles of residue appear in corners, on tabletops, little hanging sacs from ceilings – alarming evidence that the grand old dwelling has been invaded. Decidedly unwelcome creatures have made this place their home, and by their very existence will eventually destroy the house and bring it to ruin. What can be done, when you learn that your house has already been invaded? Well, the tried and true remedy is tenting. Experts come in, actually envelope the whole dwelling in a giant tent – and send a very powerful fumigant, lethal to the varmints and unwelcome creatures, into every nook and cranny of the house. Done thoroughly, every last destructive insect or rodent is sent to varmint hell – and in a day or two, the grand house is habitable again. I believe – figuratively, but in a very real way – we need to tent the White House! For reasons only he can explain, the current occupant has purposely brought a whole flock of social and political voracious varmints with him into our House. He doesn't own it; he hasn't even rented it; we the people have simply given him the keys and invited him to live there for four years, making it convenient to serve us better, to carry out our expressed wishes for our country. To the dismay of millions of us, this occupant seems to think we need an emperor. Even though all polls show that the majority of Americans don't want a whole new government-run health-care system, detest the trillions of dollars in un-payable debt he has foisted on us, question the whole "global warming" scare and disagree with him on many other issues, he boldly announces: "We're going to fundamentally transform America!" And he makes it clear that he is going to cram things down our throats whether we want them or not. Even though he constantly uses the imperial-sounding "I," he knows he can't do it alone. So, he has assembled the most unbelievable coterie of cronies – who buy into his leftist philosophy – to implement and enforce his will on us. Like a very real infestation of termites and rodents, this crew has settled into powerful positions and is already chewing away at the constitutional structure of our government. Out of nowhere, he has created a whole super-layer of "czars" over many crucial functions of our society – with super authority but no accountability to anyone but the temporary occupant. Who gave him this right? Don't the people he's supposed to serve have a say in something this ominous? But it's worse. Far worse. So many of the people he's adding to the public payroll and giving unprecedented power to are socialists, extreme leftists and even proud, boastful Marxists. Communists! Their backgrounds and past allegiances are not hidden; they're easily found by anybody who really wants to know. By Oliver North Posted: July 03, 2009 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 WASHINGTON – It took the Obama administration eight days to figure out whether Iranians being gunned down for protesting a fraudulent election and demanding basic civil liberties deserved to be acknowledged by the president of the United States. It took the O-Team less than eight hours to side with Cuba's Fidel Castro, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega over the ouster of Manuel Zelaya in Honduras. As we now have come to expect, Mr. Obama got it wrong again, but this time, nobody noticed. The U.S. news media, preoccupied with the sudden demise of Michael Jackson, ignored the event in Central America. For those who care about things more important than the passing of a "pop music legend," here's the rest of the story: Manuel Zelaya, a wealthy rancher and agribusiness executive and a self-described "poor farmer," won a four-year term as Honduran president in November 2005, with 49.8 percent of the vote. Article 374 of the Honduran Constitution bars the nation's chief executive from serving consecutive terms. Apparently, one term wasn't enough for Zelaya, a protégé of Venezuela's strongman, Hugo Chavez and Nicaragua's phobic anti-American leader, Daniel Ortega. Late last year, as the Honduran economy tanked and unemployment grew to nearly 28 percent, Zelaya forced Elvin Santos, the country's elected vice president, to resign and began holding conversations with Chavez and Ortega on how to hold on to power. In lengthy Chavez-like populist speeches, he denounced the U.S. and wealthy landowners and linked himself with leftists in the Honduran labor movement. On March 23, he issued an executive decree directing a national referendum on a Venezuela-style constituent assembly to rewrite the country's constitution in time for presidential and legislative elections in November. The Obama-Clinton State Department was mute about all of this. Unfortunately for Zelaya's aspirations, the Honduran Constitution requires that amendments be passed by a two-thirds vote of the country's unicameral Congress during two consecutive sessions. By late May, the Honduran Congress, the Honduran Supreme Court, the commissioner for human rights and the Honduran electoral tribunal all had overwhelmingly declared the referendum unconstitutional. Zelaya ignored the people's representatives, had ballots printed in Venezuela, and announced that the vote would take place June 28. Again, the O-Team was silent. In keeping with the rule of law, Honduran Attorney General Luis Alberto Rubi took the case to court. The Honduran Supreme Court ruled the referendum to be illegal and ordered the ballots to be confiscated. Late on June 23, Zelaya countermanded the court order and directed the army to distribute the ballots. Gen. Romeo Vasquez, the chief of staff of the Honduran military, sought legal opinions and decided not to distribute them. The following day, Zelaya accepted the resignation of the minister of defense, Edmundo Orellana, and fired Vasquez. The Honduran Supreme Court unanimously ruled the Vasquez firing illegal and reinstated him June 25. That prompted Zelaya and a group of supporters to seize the ballots and issue another executive decree, which directed government officials to set up 15,000 polling stations at schools and community buildings across the country. In response to a request from Attorney General Rubi, the Honduran Congress – controlled by Zelaya's own Liberal Party – opened an investigation into the president's mental stability and fitness to govern. Zelaya replied with a two-hour broadcast harangue, in which he claimed: "Congress cannot investigate me, much less remove me or stage a technical coup against me, because I am honest. Venezuela's Chavez courts Iran as US shows concern

Venezuela's ambassador to Iran, David Velasquez, said following the meeting that Ahmadinejad's visit will deepen ties between the countries and "allow us to move ahead in the transfer of technology and industry," according to Venezuela's state-run Bolivarian News Agency. Latin America's leftist leaders have in recent years strengthened relations with countries including China and Iran — inroads that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday termed "quite disturbing." "They are building very strong economic and political connections with a lot of these leaders. I don't think that's in our interest," Clinton said. Sean Penn: Shut up and act ~ Melanie Morgan

He appears to be off his meds (or on too many) and went on a rant that is common among too many pompous millionaire actors who confuse their vast sums of money with their ability for critical thinking. I hate to bring any serious attention to Penn, who is famous and wealthy because he is good at acting like a stoner ("Fast Times at Ridgemont High"), a thug ("Bad Boys") and a drug dealer ("The Falcon and the Snowman"). Given his much-publicized penchant for violence, I wonder how much "acting" he really does when he plays these parts. But Penn's rant needs attention because others who confuse celebrity with intellect might believe his socialist/commie rubbish.
