The tea party vs. "OccuMob" ~ Pat Boone hits it out of the park!

I don't know, but maybe Pat Boone reads my Facebook posts. Back on October 24, 2011, I wrote:
There is a big difference between the Tea Party movement and the Occupy Wall Street movement. While the tea partiers want to get the government off our backs so that the economy can thrive, ...the OWS movement is all about abolishing capitalism and giving government more control.
Whether or not Pat had read my posts (Pat and I ARE friends on facebook!), at least I know we are on the same page. Pat expounded (knowingly or unknowingly) on my theme for that post last Monday. There IS a huge difference between the Tea Party Movement and "OccuMob," as Pat called the Occupy Wall Street (astroturfed) movement.

Of course, you will remember when Pelosi and other Democrats accused the Tea Party Movement of being financed by unnamed sources, most likely "capitalists out to screw us all." However, Pat Boone not only accurately shows that the OccuMob was organized (astroturfed), he tells us how people in the "1%" that the Occupy Wallstreet Movement are targeting in the uprising are involved in actually funding and organizing the demonstrations.

This column is of extreme importance for one good reason: Not everyone will know that there is a difference between the Tea Party MOB and OccuMob. The mainstream media is not about to tell you about it. You're going to have to step up and tell people you know that there is a huge difference between the two movements. They won't hear it, otherwise. There is plenty of ammunition to expend that will come from Pat Boone's column. Make use of it! ... I'm just sayin'....

Heard just today on the radio, a newsman asking the "occupiers" in New York City why they were there and what was their purpose:

"F--- Wall Street! F---- politicians! F--- the rich! F--- the police!" was one answer, from one protester.

"Soak the rich b-----s. We want more money. Take it from Wall Street, and send the b-----s to jail!" was another.

"All politicians are criminals! So are the bankers! We demand our rights!" was a constantly repeated refrain. "Tax the rich!" was another.

Many of the demonstrators, some sleeping in tents and others right out in the open in sleeping bags and blankets, eating at improvised "soup kitchens," seemed vague when asked, not quite sure what the objectives were, but expressing anger at the status quo and "solidarity" with the other demonstrators, whatever the goals might be. Some carried signs handed to them by organizers, but couldn't explain exactly what their meaning was.

One young college student, obviously "playing hooky," observed, "This was fun for a couple days, but I've gotta get back to class. I'll do a report, and my professor will love it."

These protests, these "Occupy" demonstrations, just seemed to "spring up" spontaneously in city after city across the country … or so the compliant and empathetic media reported. A number of liberal TV commentators, and eventually even the vice president and President Obama himself, characterized the events as "evidence of widespread discontent" about the economy, joblessness and corruption on Wall Street. And they compared them to the tea-party phenomenon – as if all reading from the same script.

Tea party? Were they kidding? Were they serious?

Reagan adviser gets 9-9-9 right ~ By Herman Cain

In his column this week, Herman Cain comes out, in his OWN words, and tells it like it is: "Excessive spending, not insufficiently high tax rates, was the problem then and it's still the problem today."

I think that the whole truth is, it isn't just the 9-9-9 plan that is keeping Herman rising in the polls. And he realizes that when you rise in the polls like he has, everyone - including Republicans, Democrats, and Obama - are going to try to beat him like a pinata. As far as his detractors know, Cain's support comes only from his 9-9-9 plan, and that it is the object of all of their negative focus That is to Herman's advantage. The adversaries are missing the real BIG picture of Herman, such as his belief in free enterprise, lowering government spending and power, and empowering individuals to succeed when they put their heart and mind into it.

But in the mean time, the 9-9-9 plan is not all that bad. Actually, I see good reasons, as does Art Laffer, to support it. It would truly be a stimulant to the economy. But that's just me... I think if you have some knowledge of economics, you'll find the same thing that I have when studying this plan. And I'm not as smart as Mr. Laffer, but I get it.

"It's nice to have someone with the credentials of Arthur Laffer affirm that it can, and will, work."

One of my favorite criticisms of my 9-9-9 tax-reform plan is the one where people indicate they would support the plan if only we could find a way to guarantee Congress could never change the rates in the future.

They must really like the plan to ask for that. Has any other presidential candidate ever been asked to guarantee that the tax rates he proposed could never be changed?

I realize, of course, that much of this owes to the introduction of a new federal tax – the consumption tax – as part of the equation. It makes people nervous because they figure politicians can't raise a tax that doesn't exist. So once the consumption tax is in place, they say, 9 percent will only be the starting point for politicians to raise it and the other taxes, and 9-9-9 quickly becomes 10-10-10, 11-11-11 and who knows what else?

That's why it's nice to have respected economist Arthur Laffer bring a little reality to the discussion in a piece he wrote last week for the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Laffer, you might remember, was the originator of the Laffer Curve, a notion in economics that demonstrates you get diminishing returns from higher marginal tax rates because they discourage investment and economic growth. Specifically, his Laffer Curve showed that you can collect the same amount of revenue from a lower marginal rate as you can from a higher marginal rate because of the impact the rates have on the economy.

Herman Cain is the real deal ~ By Tom Tancredo

Tom Tancredo brings up some great points about Herman Cain, including both his strengths and his weaknesses. Tom explains why he believes that Herman Cain satisfies the needed qualities of the next President of the United States in accordance with Ronald Reagan's three 'C's for qualification: character, competence and commitment. In Tom's words, "Herman Cain passes all three with flying colors, whereas Romney and Perry … not so much. "

I would add one more 'C': Conviction. I suppose that could fit within either character or commitment, or maybe it defines those twp qualities. Cain's conviction to his principles would easily help to explain his great amount of character and commitment!

The one weakness that is plaguing Herman Cain, which Tancredo comments on in this column, is Cain's political inexperience. That is definitely something that has to be overcome in the Cain campaign. However, if winning depends on political experience, we're in trouble. And yes, WIN we MUST, because we can't deal with another four years of Barack Obama. However, look what happened when we nominated a candidate with political experience that went on to win the White House for Republicans: i.e. Richard Nixon.

This is why Tancredo's column should be read from beginning to end: Not everything you will hear in the media about Cain's "weaknesses" (i.e. political experience) are necessarily going to disqualify Herman Cain as the top Republican candidate. I'm just sayin'... and so is Tom Tancredo.

Herman Cain would make a great president of the United States. He is my candidate, and he has a good chance of becoming the candidate of the Republican Party.

Cain's only weakness is political inexperience, and that leads to mistakes in his campaign, but it is not a disqualification for the office. In fact, in the eyes of most voters, it is more a blessing than a curse.

Based on my 30 years in public life, I see three qualifications for public office and for the office of president. These three qualifications have nothing to do with "electability." Citizens, unlike professional campaign consultants, ask other questions before asking if a candidate is electable. Voters want to know what kind of leader he would be in the White House, and if he can't or won't lead us out of our current mess, then "electability" is irrelevant.

The three most essential qualifications for president are the same three qualifications used for selecting appointees in the Reagan administration in 1981. The Reagan White House wanted every appointee to meet three tests called the "three C's": character, competence and commitment. Herman Cain passes all three with flying colors, whereas Romney and Perry … not so much.

By all the evidence, Cain's character is stellar in every respect. He is truthful, honest, loyal, hardworking and forthright. He keeps his promises, and scandal has never touched him.

9 responses to 9 false attacks on 9-9-9 ~ By Herman Cain

[This post has been updated and revised on October 21, 2011.  Three videos were added and my commentary has been revised.]

After seeing the latest GOP debate for Republican hopefuls on CNN Tuesday night (Oct 18, 0211), this column seemed to be very relevant. I noticed several of the contenders seemed to have some erroneous information about Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan.

I want to give Herman Cain a hat tip for his ability to handle the criticism, especially when some of the criticism was not based on facts.  In the videos below, what really made me wince was that small fact that Michele Bachmann wasn't truthful, or she was just plain ignorant of what Cain's 9-9-9 plan does.

The other candidates didn't do much better.  I could tell that it was an attempt to take Herman Cain down, and out of the lead for the nomination.  Newt Gingrich was the only other candidate that gave Mr. Cain some credit for his 9-9-9 plan.  Only thing is, Newt, like all the other candidates, said his "plan" was better, yet it was saying pretty much the same thing as Herman Cain is trying to do!

CNN Western Republican Presidential Debate - Candidates attack Herman's 9-9-9 plan - Part 1:

CNN Western Republican Presidential Debate - Candidates attack Herman's 9-9-9 plan - Part 2:

CNN Western Republican Presidential Debate - Candidates attack Herman's 9-9-9 plan - Part 3:

Now that you have watched the above videos, be sure to read the complete column. Keep in mind that the column was published two days before the debate.

But do not be surprised if Herman Cain revises the 9-9-9 plan - or gives a better explanation of how it works - as we move closer to the primaries and caucuses. I think there are some questions about it. As Herman Cain well knows, flexibility is an asset as a CEO, and as a President. I'm just sayin'...

Do you know why candidates for office tend to be reluctant to propose detailed plans? Because they know the plans will be flyspecked and picked apart by just about everyone. Inviting criticism doesn't help you to get votes.

But fear of criticism prevents you from conceiving solutions to problems. So even if avoidance of criticism helps in propelling you to an election victory, how are you supposed to effectively govern? How are you supposed to fix the problems you told everyone you were going to fix?

That's why I'm happy to see so much criticism of the 9-9-9 plan I've proposed. It shows that people are thinking seriously about a substantive idea. When people stop obsessing over "gaffes" and campaign strategy, and start honing in on fixing the country's economic problems, we are getting somewhere.

Herman Cain: Rocket fuel for America ~ By Star Parker

A reader who commented on the column stated: "What I would give to actually have a President who loves America AND our precious freedoms! Herman Cain certainly intrigues this voter!!"

That says it all!

After carefully reading and spending considerable time contemplating on this column, I have no doubt that Star Parker has it right, and the Republican establishment, and one of their supporters, Mona Charen, have it wrong.  The establishment elite are forgetting about who really brought about the Tea Party Movement, and the landslide victories that propelled Republicans back to power in the House and ended Nancy Pelosi's reign: American people that want to revive freedom in the USA! As Star writes, "The Republican Party establishment needs to start listening to grass-roots Americans and asking why no one is exciting them like Herman Cain."

It is a decision that Republican primary voters and caucus attendees need to make soon. Do we want the political experience of the Establishment's pick, Mitt Romney, or somebody that can revive the spirit of freedom and the wonderful outcome that liberty will have on our economy? It's as simple as 9-9-9! Traci, the writer of the comment above, represents the view that I happily share.

It's not just conservatives who are frustrated today. It is every single American who longs to see their nation regain its vitality, restoring freedom and prosperity at home and shining the light of human potential across the planet.

What is particularly frustrating is that the party out of power, the Republican Party, is supposed to be carrying the torch for these values. But it's barely happening. The Party has become bogged down with careerists, rear-view mirror thinkers and its own establishment of inside-the-beltway elite.

Nothing could speak more to this problem than establishment attitudes toward the remarkable Herman Cain.

Take, for instance, a recent column by conservative columnist Mona Charen.

After extolling Cain's compelling virtues – his rags to riches success story, his love of America and the values that make it great, and the courageous ideas he has put on the table in his campaign – Ms. Charen dismisses his candidacy for president.

"[H]e lacks the kind of experience the office requires … political skills … necessary in a political job."

Others who dismiss Cain point to his lack of national organization essential for raising the kind of money a presidential campaign needs.

I just don't see it this way.

Occupy Wall Street and Madame Guillotine ~ By Phil Elmore

Phil Elmore writes about the great contrasts in what the "Occupy Wallstreet" movement groups want. The contrast is that the very people that all of this social upheaval is focused on are the ones that provide not just the jobs, but the very technology that the revolutionaries depend on. So, lop off their heads, you revolutionary mobs, and then watch not just the Blackberries, but the IPhones and everything else quit working.

What we have to worry about, I guess, is that Phil is right. Notice I didn't say, "IF he is right." And can I throw in one more point? Anyone that think it is the rich that are greedy is sadly mistaken. It is those that aren't willing to actually work to get ahead, that want more in return than they are worth, or willing to give, that are greedy. That pretty much defines most of those that want to disrupt life for the rest of us. It's just about greed.

As the Internet and social media help increasingly well organized Marxist protesters bring their "Occupy Wall Street" mobs to cities across America, the sense that history is repeating could not be more keen. Not since French peasants dragged nobles to the guillotines have so many been so excited about emptying the pockets of so few.

In Glorious Leader Obama's America, this is not a fad, and it is not a passing trend. This is, instead, a cultural shift that sees whining entitlement, peevish jealousy and naked covetousness become the public norm for the liberal left and the Democratic Party in America.

A hilarious image posted online sums up the hypocrisy of the protesters, who snarl and growl about "evil corporations" while clothed in, decorated by, transmitted across and connected through the products of the capitalist industries they mindlessly condemn. Amusing as this may be, there is nothing funny about the proliferation of "occupy" protests. These demonstrations are blooming like fungus throughout our beleaguered nation. They are a threat to every productive citizen.

Herman Cain is for real ~ By Joseph Farah

Chelsea Schilling, a reporter for WND, hit it on the head over a year ago when she asked, "Is this man Obama's worst nightmare?", and Herman Cain responded with, ""Quite frankly, I could beat Barack Obama."

Right now, the Cain detractors are getting frantic. They weren't expecting the Herman Cain surge in the polls, surpassing Mitt Romney in the latest NBC/WSJ poll.

Joseph Farah lays it out in this column. It is clear that Cain has become a threat to the Obama re-election campaign. It explains the state-controlled media (Yahoo, for example) effort to try to discredit Cain with the lie about WND, as Farah discusses.

While Farah isn't formally endorsing Herman Cain in this column, he does say:

He [Cain] may be the very best candidate to take out Obama in 2012.

He may indeed be Obama's "worst nightmare."

It looks like a genuine, home-spun, non-politician, conservative candidate for the Republican presidential nomination is emerging.

His name is Herman Cain.

And the evidence of the threat he represents to a second term of Barack Obama is clear from the attacks being leveled in his direction by the media, by the Democrats and by the sycophantic entitlement mongers who think government's coercive power should be used to get "their fair share" even though they don't work to earn it.

You know what's happening when Yahoo! News goes after Cain because of his association with me – and all I represent because I believe the Constitution should be honored, even when it comes to the trivial matter of who is eligible to be president.

As with most such feeble attempts to sling mud against Cain, who now leads the GOP presidential pack by a significant margin, according to several polls, the very basis of the attack is [a] lie.

"For the past two years, Herman Cain has written a weekly column that is advertised as 'exclusive commentary' for WorldNetDaily, a website that is the online hub for people who believe that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States," it begins. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Commie plot that put us in the red ~ By Diana West

In Blogging in Our Time 2 Escape, I do my best to provide you with the information in order to help you teach your children, and others, about the difference between capitalism and communism, and how one ideology promotes freedom while the other promotes tyranny. Fortunately, I have plenty of resources to lean on. Today, it is WND columnist Diana West that provides us with the information that helps to promote that goal. Along with Diana's column are several videos that I will be providing in my commentary below.

I learned in a segment on Fox and Friends with Tavis Smiley and Cornell West that since the 1960's, America has spent $16 Trillion to fight poverty, and yet, poverty has become even worse than when the government's war on poverty programs began.

What Diana West writes about in this column is important for us to know. Diana is right when she states "...how matter-of-fact we are in contemplating massive government interventions."  That statement struck me.  In this column, you will find out the reason why we've accepted the deficit spending plot, that is, if you read it closely enough.

It is important for your children and grandchildren to learn how deficit spending is destroying this country, especially when it comes to "fighting poverty." It doesn't work, nor has it ever. They aren't going to learn about this stuff at any time during their K-12 public school days, and probably not even during their days of collegiate curricula. So, it is up to you to teach them.

Diana West does an excellent job in this column to help you understand where the idea of all of this deficit spending came from. And now, I have found another video segment that supports what Diana has to say about the deficit spending.

The most amazing aspects of the accelerating American submission to the state are: 1) how matter-of-fact we are in contemplating massive government interventions, such as President Barack Obama's latest stimulus "jobs" plan, and 2) how virtually no one notices the blatant Marxist overtones. When someone does, a la "Joe the Plumber" at the end of the 2008 campaign season, he or she is mocked off the stage.

President Obama demonstrated how this is done in January 2010 when, during an unusual White House meeting with congressional Republicans about his pending health-care legislation – another massive government intervention into the private sector – he declared: "If you were to listen to the debate, and, frankly, how some of you went after this bill, you'd think this thing was some Bolshevik plot."

I remember cringing when a smattering of applause arose from the GOP ranks, as though some Republicans actually believed the president had delivered a punch line revealing the absurdity of considering "Obamacare" a government apparatus for seizing control of the lives of citizens – which it is. And that's no joke.

I wish any Republican had replied: "Not necessarily a 'plot,' sir, but a program that is indeed 'Bolshevik' in conception, design and purpose nonetheless. Government control of private sector activity, as the American people well know (or should), is aptly described as 'Bolshevik' – or Marxist, socialist, collectivist, statist and, for that matter, fascist, too. Indeed, nationalized health care was one of the first programs enacted by the Bolsheviks after they seized power in 1917."

Time to split the U.S. in half ~ By Robert Ringer

Had I read this column a bit over a week ago when it was posted, this would have been the top priority to post here! In fact, I would have placed the posting of this column over all of the things I need to do around the house, like getting the furnace to light and getting a problem with my plumbing fixed... Oh, wait, never mind, I didn't get those things done, anyway. You know, priorities.

I would have agreed with Robert Ringer all the way in his writing, but I think there is a flaw. After reading the column, and understanding what Robert is saying, I decided that there is an option that should be considered before we divide the country as Robert suggests.

In my humble opinion, we just need to scrub the Federal government from all State's business. Let the Federal government handle our national defense and security, foreign relations, interstate commerce and interstate law enforcement. Outside of those responsibilities, let the states decide at what level to help people or control their behavior.

Yes, that's right, we would be able to do without two of the three 9's in Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan.

Really, we need to leave the decisions to the states, and allow them to compete. The Federal Government shouldn't be involved so much in our personal business. We should know that because it was what inspired some to leave England and Europe so that they could have more personal freedom. That is what made America great, once upon a time. Courageous Americans will move to the States that have the most common sense. I hope that will be the thought that you will think about when you read Robert Ringer's excellent column. Let's not divide America. Not just yet.

Every year or two, progressive New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg actually says something I agree with, like when he recently warned that there could be riots in the streets of America if the economy doesn't improve. On his weekly radio show, Bloomberg said that a lack of jobs is causing people to become desperate. "The damage to a generation that can't find jobs," explained Bloomberg, "will go on for many, many years."

But Bloomberg and I parted ways when he praised Barack Obama for offering a proposal to create jobs and improve the economy. "At least he's got some ideas on the table, whether you like those or not," he said. "Now everybody's got to sit down and say we're actually gonna do something, and you have to do something on both the revenue and the expense side."

None other than debonair Michael Moore echoed Bloomberg's sentiments with his recent Occupy Wall Street protest. In an interview with never-say-die wannabe journalist Keith Olbermann, Moore said, "… the smart rich know they can only build the gates so high, and sooner or later history proves that people, when they've had enough, they aren't going to take it anymore, and much better to deal with it nonviolently now through the political system than what could possibly happen in the future, which nobody wants to see."

Moore is right in the first part of his run-on sentence, but wrong in the last part. Those who long for a left-wing dictatorship do want to see a violent revolution. Why do you think they keep encouraging worker uprisings – out of boredom? Violent uprisings are an excuse for government to implement a state of emergency and suspend habeas corpus.

The truth, of course, is that the U.S., like Europe, is socially and economically beyond repair. Yet, the answer from the left is always the same – take more money from small businesses and working people and redistribute it to handpicked corporations, special-interest groups, and government employees and bureaucrats.

The problem is that there soon will be no wealth to redistribute. Sure, progressive politicians can keep the redistribution vote-buying scam going for a while longer, but, ultimately, a Greek ending is unavoidable. And when that happens, rioting in the U.S. will be much more violent than in Greece, because people have gotten used to a considerably higher standard of living than working people in Greece and the rest of Europe.

Now, here's where it gets complicated. While the left continues to rev up its class-warfare strategy, there are tens of millions of Americans – primarily libertarians and conservatives – who want the government to butt out. Specifically, they want to drastically cut back on government's usurped powers to regulate, tax, redistribute wealth, and interfere in the economy and people's lives.

This is what the tea-party movement is all about, and early on it became such a threat to the aspirations of those in the big-government crowd that they began belittling it as a hate-mongering fringe movement. Thus far, however, it hasn't worked.

In fact, it has backfired, even though those on the left still refuse to believe the movement is for real. They can't accept the fact that ever since the tea party came on the political scene, the freedom revolution has been competing with, and beating, the more-free-stuff revolution that lefties like the Michaels – Bloomberg and Moore – have been warning us about.

A fuddy-duddy speaks on the generation gap ~ By Patrice Lewis

I think that I noticed a level of intensity in this Patrice Lewis column that stood out to me. And I really had to ask myself if there are enough of those kind of kids in existence that could eventually collapse our system of society. Just hearing Glenn Beck talking about what is going on with the "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations, and I have to wonder.

I was struck by several of the points that Patrice makes in this column. For example, Patrice wrote, "Fifty years ago, manners and courtesy were drilled into children from infancy. That practice began its decline in the '60s, and it's been downhill from there." I have to agree with Patrice that the turning point was in the 1960's, especially somewhere during the latter half of the decade. There was a lot of social upheaval - chaos - from about 1967 to 1972. And everything changed.

If you are an old "fuddy-duddy" like me, you may have the same reaction that I experienced when reading this column. One of my first thoughts was that the spontaneous combustion of the Occupy Wall Street movement is made up with a bunch of dumb-downed useful idiots that were easily manipulated to be the foot soldiers in the "American Autumn." Or should that be the "American Fall"? (Or the "American Fail?")

Do those of us that respect others, that have some decency left, still outnumber those that don't? I'm pretty sure that we do. I do not disagree with the assessment in this column in that there is a disgusting number of people that just don't care about their ability to contribute positive influence on our society. There are not a lot of hard workers like Steven Jobs available at the moment. There is influence from the media, and from the schools, that tend to make some want to rebel against authority, especially the authority of parents. I'm not sure that we can blame parents for the problems we are facing.

A seemingly minor incident happened this week, which left me thoughtful.

I was in the city with my younger daughter. We needed to swing into a post office to mail a letter. The post office had a dedicated lane in its parking lot for cars to drive up to the mailboxes. The street was busy so I needed to swing into the parking lot quickly, not slowly … except I couldn't, because two teenage boys were walking across the driveway.

Well, can't be helped. They were there first, after all, and pedestrians have the right of way.

Except they wouldn't move. They deliberately stopped and just stood in my way, so that my car stayed half in the street, blocking traffic.

After a few moments one of the boys moved, but the other started walking toward the car as if daring me to run him over. He wasn't being threatening or dangerous. He was just being a jerk.

I managed to pull the car to one side and nip past him, and that was that. I mailed my letter and drove away. In my rearview mirror I saw them laugh. The incident left me fuming.

The boys were the typical teenagers we often see these days – slouching, insolent, eyes half closed in a perpetual sneer at life. The one boy's reaction to my presence – I dare you to run me over – was spontaneous and arrogant.

"If this is the future of America," noted my 13-year-old daughter, "we're doomed."

My anger turned to sadness and concern. Multiply these boys by millions, and you do indeed have the future of America. These boys had no sense of social courtesy, no understanding of civic consideration and apparently no desire to obtain either. Get a bunch of these types of kids together, and the situation is ripe for flash mobs and other social chaos.

I realize this sounds like the classic fuddy-duddy generation-gap thing, but in point of fact I'm not the only one to note the changing face of young people in our society. Fifty years ago, manners and courtesy were drilled into children from infancy. That practice began its decline in the '60s, and it's been downhill from there.

Legislating kindness? It's insane ~ By Phil Elmore

I should recuse myself from commenting on Phil's column... There was a span during my life when I was mercilessly tormented, both physically and emotionally, on a daily basis. I had no recourse at that age except to either take violent retribution against the tormentors, or just deal with it. I normally took the latter option. But the option of ending my life, or any one else's, never existed. Wait, maybe it did, because the thoughts crossed my mind, so I guess that makes it an option... Just not a valid option.

And that I didn't ever do anything with life changing or ending consequences, for anyone, we can pretty much give the credit to my Christian and family-oriented upbringing. I cared too much for the people that were raising me to do anything that would bring shame to them.

So, doesn't that mean that we would be giving blame more weight than shame if it comes down to legislating against "bullycide"?

Who is responsible for suicide? When a human being self-harms, who is to blame? Can anyone but the dead shoulder ownership of their passing? Or shall we elect instead to force, under pain of imprisonment and lifelong penalty, a climate of emotional extortion? When every citizen of our nation lives in fear of his neighbor's upset, who do we then punish for the fear and loathing we enshrine as law?

These are not rhetorical questions. This is not a theoretical debate. A New York state senator, Jeffrey Klein, wants to make it a felony to bully someone. He has introduced legislation to expand the definition of manslaughter in New York to include "bullycide." Should that law pass, if you "bully" or "cyberbully" someone in New York state and they then commit suicide, you would be guilty of manslaughter.

As CBS reported, the proposed change to New York law "comes after the death of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer … a week ago Sunday. Police said Rodemeyer was driven to commit suicide after high school bullies teased him about his sexuality."

Rodemeyer's suicide is the latest in a highly publicized string of deaths involving young people who were teased or bullied. Last year, Tyler Clementi, a student at Rutgers University, killed himself after a sexual encounter he had in his dorm was broadcast to other students without his knowledge. He was not alone; a 15-year-old girl in Massachusetts killed herself in January 2010 after being harassed by text message and on the social networking site Facebook. The year before that, a Missouri mom who "cyberbullied" her daughter's 13-year-old rival (by impersonating a boy to trick and then humiliate the girl) was convicted of several misdemeanor criminal charges relating to misuse of computers. That 13-year-old girl, Megan Meier, committed suicide in 2006. Children as young as 9 years old have killed themselves, presumably because the pressure of their social environment was too much for them.

"Bullycide," already a trending term on Twitter, is the term coined for a suicide inspired by social harassment. There are now books and even entire organizations devoted to combating it. Whether in person or, as is proving increasingly prevalent, through technology (from wireless phones to social media specifically and the Web in general), such bullying "in schools and workplaces" leads to suicides "around the world." As the site Overcome Bullying asserts:
The bullying/suicide connection has been demonstrated time and again. The consequences of bullying can be lethal. Bullying is directly implicated in child and teenage suicide. Addressing the issue of bullying at school or even after school hours through stalking or cyberbullying (Web bullying) is an essential component of teen suicide prevention.
The desire to prevent suicide, especially among young people, is understandable. The efforts of organizations devoted to this purpose are largely laudable. Suicide is a tragedy, the application of a permanent solution to what are, in most cases, only temporary problems. It is a bell you cannot unring; it is the most drastic and most selfish of all ill-conceived acts. To take your life is to damn yourself, if not spiritually, then in the eyes of your family and your friends, who will forever suffer your absence while bearing the psychological poverty of your choice.

The county that struck back against U.N. ~ By Henry Lamb

Toward the end of the column, Henry asks this question:
With a deficit of $1.65 trillion dollars, growing by billions of dollars every day, why are HUD, DOT and the EPA trying so hard to spend money the nation does not have, on a program that the nation does not need, that will impose government-mandated restrictions on behavior that the people do not want?
The quote above, along with this great column, should be enough to get a few people woken up to the fact that federal mandates are influenced by the U.N., and it is taking funds that we don't have in order to get states and local jurisdictions to bow down to globalists that we do not even elect.

Editor's note: Listen to this column online.

Local governments have two fundamental responsibilities: 1) protect the rights of the citizens; and 2) provide the services the citizens authorize. To meet these responsibilities, local elected officials must look to the future and anticipate what services their citizens may want, and construct plans to meet those needs. This kind of planning will be referred to as Planning 101.

Since 1992, with the emergence of Agenda 21, the entire concept of planning has undergone a major transformation. This new kind of planning will be referred to as Planning 102. Planning 102 is not concerned about protecting the rights of citizens. Planning 102 is not concerned with what services the citizens of a community might want in the future. Planning 102 is the art of transforming existing communities into the utopian communities envisioned in Agenda 21, and shoe-horning local citizens into them.

This process began in 1993 with President Clinton's executive order that created the President's Council on Sustainable Development, which focused primarily on transforming urban centers into "sustainable communities." The process continues now, with President Obama's executive order that created the White House Rural Council, which focuses primarily on the 16 percent of the population who live on 80 percent of the rural landscape.
