Marco Rubio and eligibility ~ By Robert Klein Engler

Robert Klein Engler brings up some very intriguing points in this column regarding Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and the issue of his Constitutional eligibility to even serve as Vice President of the United States. Because of the questionable eligibility issue regarding the "natural born citizen" requirement in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution of the United States, Rush Limbaugh may not have had it right when he "endorsed" Rubio.

Engler offers very plausible reasons why Marco Rubio can't get the VP slot on the GOP ticket. But what makes this commentary really worth reading is that Engler provokes some thoughtful consideration regarding the eligibility issue. What if there is a potentially great GOP candidate on the 2012 ticket, like Rubio, that may not meet the same eligibility standards that the "birthers" are saying that Obama doesn't meet? What happens then?

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)
Sen. Marco Rubio's star is rising in the Republican Party. There is talk he may be on the ticket as a candidate for vice president once the party picks its candidate for president. If it's up to the birthers and the Country Club Republicans, Rubio's place on the ticket may not materialize.

For years, the birthers have been treated with disdain by the left and mainstream media. Part of this disdain is generated by fringe elements in the birther community. If the media can overlook these fringe elements, they will see that many birthers are loyal Americans who simply want the U.S. Constitution to be respected. In short, the birther argument against Obama and possibly Sen. Rubio is a constitutional argument.

There are many in the birther camp who argue that when the U.S. Constitution says being a "natural born citizen" (Article II, Section 1) is one qualification to be president and vice president, it means that both parents of the candidate must have been U.S. citizens when the candidate for president was born.

They argue that to be a natural born citizen of the United States requires not only birth on U.S. soil but two parents as U.S. citizens as well. This argument is not spelled out in the Constitution but is an interpretation of the unique phrase "natural born citizen." Nevertheless, there are valid and strong arguments in favor of the two-parent position. Writing in WND, Drew Zahn sums up these arguments.

At the end of his summation, Zahn adds, "The U.S. Supreme Court, for its part, has admitted the Constitution does not define what is meant by 'natural born citizen' and hasn't offered a ruling to solve the dispute."

The very fact that the high court has not defined what "natural born citizen" means is why Marco Rubio will not be a candidate for vice president. Nobody wants to raise this issue in court, let alone Republicans or Democrats.

Herman Cain: Obama's scrubbing Christian heritage 'intentional'

U.S. Rep. J. Randy Forbes of Virginia, one of 42 bipartisan members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, explained the importance of the distinction:

"These omissions and inaccuracies are a part of a larger pattern we are seeing with the president where he is inaccurately reflecting America and undercutting important parts of our nation's history," said Forbes. "Trust in God is embedded in the fabric of society and history in the United States.

"If we allow these threads to be pulled, we will begin to unravel the very freedoms that birthed America," he said.

Forbes added, "President Reagan once warned that 'If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.'"

Here is a story from WorldNetDaily.com last Friday night that I've been wanting to include on this blog for a few days, and as always, time limited me from getting it posted. Though the story is about Herman Cain's interview with David Brody of CBN news, the subject of the interview is the deeper story. Herman Cain, the possible candidate for President if he gets the GOP nomination next year, makes the point that he believes President Obama is intentionally not making reference to America's Judeo-Christian heritage. Herman doesn't believe it could be unintentional, because it is something that has been repeatedly done, and that is WITH the use of teleprompters.

I believe that this story is extremely important for one good reason. Should the election in 2012 be between Obama and Cain, it will be much easier for most people to be able to differentiate between the two candidates. And I agree with Herman Cain, in what he had told David Brody of CBN:
"People are basically rejecting that sort of attack on our culture," Cain said, "because most of the people I talk to, the majority of the people – not the mainstream media – they do not want God to be taken out of our culture."

HERMAN CAIN
Businessman Herman Cain, a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, has criticized Barack Obama for disregarding America's Christian heritage, stating he believes the president's repeated omission of the phrase "endowed by their Creator" is "intentional."

"I have been able to get the pulse of the American people of not only what's in their head but what's in their heart," Cain told CBN News Correspondent David Brody in an interview. "What's in their heart is they love this country. They love the values upon which this country was founded, and they don't like it when the president omits 'endowed by their Creator' from reciting the Declaration of Independence."

Brody asked Cain, "Do you believe that was intentional by the president?"

"I believe it was intentional because he did it three times, two of which I know about, and a friend of mine actually knows of a third one," Cain answered. "With all of his teleprompters, how could you not put that in there? No. I believe it was intentional."

As WND has reported, Obama has an established record of omitting references to the Divine: prompting a letter from the Congressional Prayer Caucus for incorrectly replacing the nation's motto of "In God We Trust" with "E pluribus unum" in a speech at the University of Indonesia, omitting the phrase "endowed by their Creator" from documents submitted to the United Nations, drawing criticism for omitting the same phrase three times in a little over a month and, by WND columnist Chuck Norris' count, dropping "their Creator" a total of seven times in a two-month span last year.

Cain, a radio talk host, WND columnist and former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, is one of only a few GOP potential candidates to announce formation of an exploratory committee to seek possible nomination for president in 2012.

In his criticism of the sitting president, Cain recalled Obama stating, "Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation," a phrase Obama used repeatedly, both before and after his election.

"Here's another example: When [Obama] first became president and he went to Turkey to give a speech and declared that we were not a Christian nation," Cain told Brody. "Well I got news for the president. We are a Judeo-Christian nation, and a lot of people want to keep it that way."

Look behind the eyes of Jared Loughner

Some have speculated that Loughner's anti-government rants, published on his YouTube site, may identify the accused killer as a tea-party-type activist.

As WND reported, however, his classmate Caitie Parker wrote of Loughner, "As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy."

Loughner also listed on his YouTube channel among his favorite books Karl Marx's "The Communist Manifesto" and Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf," casting further doubt on the notion that he was an angered tea-party type.
I actually had somebody tell me yesterday that the shooter in the Tuscon tragedy was "probably some tea-party whacko." I asked him where he got that idea. He said, "from the local newspaper." Oh, you mean like in the letters to the editor or an editorial column? Nope. In a news story. It was quoted from some politician (but he didn't remember who it was that was quoted).

So, okay, we are in luck today. I saw this excellent column on WorldNetDaily.com. We can all now try to dispel the misinformation.

22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner is in police custody, accused of opening fire into a crowd in Tucson, Ariz., killing six and critically wounding Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Jared Lee Loughner
Thousands of news reports have described him as "troubled," "disturbed" or a "loner."

Loughner's YouTube and MySpace accounts give clues to his thoughts, but mostly contain disjointed, rambling diatribes about illiteracy, the government, mind control and "conscience dreaming."

But what else is known about the background of Loughner?

He lived with his parents – who have yet to speak to the media – the Associated Press reports, "in a middle-class neighborhood lined with desert landscaping and palm trees" about five minutes from the scene of the shooting. Neighbors reportedly described him as walking his dog, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, listening to heavy metal on his iPod and keeping to himself.

The more America learns about the accused assassin, however, the more disturbing the picture of this "disturbed" young man becomes.

Court accused of covering for Obama in 'Walpingate'

If it isn't Sestakgate, it's something else. The Manchurian President that promised open and transparent government is not showing any cooperation, though. The White House is determined to avoid, and then stall yet another investigation into their shenanigans. Attorney General Eric Holder is not here to protect us and make sure the law is enforced. Instead, he is the Obama lackey whose job it is to stonewall anything that comes at the administration. Just sayin'...
Grassley and Issa concluded, "None of the documents produced after the publication of our initial report undermine or conflict with the conclusions of the [final] report. Arguably, some of the new documents could actually reinforce the public perception that the inspector general was removed for political reasons.

"In particular, the revelation that the acting U.S. attorney was seeking a presidential appointment at the time he filed a complaint against Walpin puts that complaint in a different light," they continue. "Moreover, the fact that the White House allowed the documents to be withheld for so long and that it required so much effort to finally obtain them also suggests a lack of transparency that is inconsistent with the goals repeatedly articulated by President Obama for a more open and accountable administration."
Judge appears to be stonewalling scandal linked to White House

By Drew Zahn

© 2010 WorldNetDaily

Former Inspector General Gerald Walpin, whose dismissal by President Obama last year has been challenged by congressmen as potentially illegal political retaliation, is now stepping up the battle to get his job back, accusing the judicial system of stalling his case and, thus, doing the White House a convenient favor.

Court documents filed last week accuse U.S. District Court Judge Richard Roberts of failing to act within federally mandated time requirements and "doing nothing at all" to move the case forward.

Similarly, a joint congressional report by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., which found the administration had failed to comply with requirements of the law and "orchestrated an after-the-fact smear campaign to justify the president's action," has been allowed to languish.

Meanwhile, "Walpingate" fades from the public memory, and the White House has moved on to appoint Walpin's replacement, as though the scandal were resolved.

The advantage the White House gains by delays in the case hasn't been lost on a recent Washington Times editorial, which calls for a halt to nomination of Jonathan Hatfield to Walpin's old position:

"[Judge Roberts] has played into the hands of the Obama administration, which has used every possible stalling tactic to keep the case buried and its merits unexamined," the editorial contends. "The goal, which is highly improper, seems to be to render Mr. Walpin's case moot by putting Mr. Hatfield in his place."

The editorial insists the integrity of the offices of inspector general is even more important for "an administration increasingly known for outlandish stonewalling of Congress and the press and for its Justice Department's refusal to investigate any purported administration wrongdoing."

As WND reported, the White House fired Walpin from his watchdog position over the Corporation for National and Community Services shortly after the inspector general exposed sexual misconduct and gross misappropriation of federal funds by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a prominent Barack Obama supporter.

Independent federal inspectors general, however, are supposed to be granted special protection from political interference or retaliation – thanks in part to a law co-sponsored by then-Sen. Barack Obama – to ensure they are free to investigate waste and fraud uninfluenced by political cronyism.

Congressmen Grassley and Issa, however, issued a report suspecting Obama of violating his own law.

"Throughout our investigation of Mr. Walpin's removal, the White House has repeatedly communicated that the president was not motivated by inappropriate political reasons," said Issa. "The fact is Gerald Walpin led an aggressive investigation of a political ally of President Obama that successfully recovered taxpayer dollars. While firing an investigator who uncovered the abuse of funds by a political ally might be considered an act of 'political courage' in Chicago politics, for most Americans it raises troubling questions."

Walpin had sued the CNCS in July of last year, seeking reinstatement. Dozens of procedural steps and court filings later, however, the judge has refused to take any action on the case, save granting the defense an extension and denying a preliminary injunction request that would have required the CNCS to supply affidavits and documents in its defense.

Now Walpin is petitioning a higher court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, to issue a writ of mandamus directing Judge Roberts to either promptly resolve the outstanding motions in the lawsuit or transfer the case to a judge who can.

According to court filings, Walpin "brings this petition reluctantly, and only after trying by every other means reasonable available to try to break the logjam in his case."

The documents also cite Grassley and Issa's report, before declaring the judge "need not have allowed such unlawfulness to continue and should, at the very least, have ensured that the substantive questions be timely tried."

The origins of 'Walpingate'

In 2008, Walpin was overseeing an investigation of St. HOPE Academy, a charter school founded and operated by Kevin Johnson, a former NBA star and self-described friend of Barack Obama. Walpin referred Johnson to the U.S. attorney's office for criminal and civil prosecution for "false and fraudulent conduct in connection with $845,018.75 in federal funds."

According to Walpin's referral, St. HOPE used members of AmeriCorps – which is run by CNCS – for political campaigning to re-elect Board of Education incumbents, and the hours spent on those elections were improperly recorded as AmeriCorps service hours.

"The money was given to St. HOPE to finance AmeriCorps members, who are basically volunteers that they call members, to do tutoring in schools among disadvantaged students," Walpin told Eric Hogue of Hogue News. "My investigation found they didn't use the AmeriCorps members for tutoring; they used them to drive Mr. Johnson around, to wash his car, to do all sorts of janitorial and administrative work [that] the money wasn't given to them for."

Johnson's eligibility to receive federal grants was consequently suspended on Sept. 24, 2008.

Despite Johnson's proven misconduct, the voters of Sacramento elected him mayor less than two months later. But when, in February 2009, Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the city of Sacramento's eligibility to receive stimulus funds under ARRA was thought to be threatened by Johnson's suspension.

The U.S. attorney's office, headed by acting U.S. Attorney Lawrence Brown, negotiated a favorable settlement for Johnson that reinstated his eligibility to receive federal funds.

According to Grassley's and Issa's report, however, the settlement included "no meaningful guarantee" that the United States would ever actually collect any payments from St. HOPE, which was saddled with the bulk of the settlement.

Last May, Walpin, who had been shut out of the settlement negotiations by Brown, complained to the board that oversees AmeriCorps funding, prompting Brown to file a complaint against Walpin.

Three weeks later, Walpin received a phone call from the White House telling him to resign or be fired. Walpin refused the phone ultimatum and was fired 45 minutes later, despite a law requiring the president to give 30-days notice to Congress before removing an IG and to explain the reasons for doing so.

Bloody Sunday, 2010: House OKs health bill

This is a very sad day, a Black Sunday in our history of this once free country. I can't believe that they are doing this to us. I know there will be many court cases, but I'm not holding my breath, folks. I know this could be the end of the Democrat majority come this November, but I'm not even sure that's will happen, either.
GOP: 'This is not about uninsured; it is about socialized medicine'
Leading up to today's vote, the legislation was widely and loudly opposed by a growing grassroots movement of Americans concerned that a government takeover of health care would violate both the U.S. Constitution and personal liberty.

Tens of thousands of people descended on Washington yesterday, lining up in circles around the Capitol, in protest of a President Obama's trillion dollar plan to take over health care across America.

Actor Jon Voight joined the protests and was blunt in his assessment of the plan and of Obama:

"It is a runaway train for him. And he has no way to put on the brakes. It is very clear that he will turn this country into a socialist America and his bullying and his arrogance can't stop," Voight said.

Democrats in the House needed 216 votes to pass the Senate's version of a sweeping health-care package Barack Obama has been pushing with all his presidential might.

They tallied 219.

Democrats hailed the vote as a landmark victory.

"Today is the day that is going to rank with the day we passed the civil rights bill in 1964," said Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich. "Today we're doing something that ranks with what we did with Social Security or Medicare. This is a day of which we can all be proud."

"This is an American proposal that honors the traditions of our country," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., summing up the initiative in one word: "opportunity."

Republicans in Congress, however, who voted in a solid block to oppose the measure that many argue grants the federal government far too much power at far too much of a cost, blasted the bill during the debate as the "mother of all unfunded mandates."

"The American people know you can't reduce health-care costs by spending $1 trillion or raising taxes by more than one-half trillion dollars. The American people know that you cannot cut Medicare by over one-half trillion dollars without hurting seniors," said Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich. "And, the American people know that you can't create an entirely new government entitlement program without exploding spending and the deficit."

Promoters of the bill have long touted the millions who will be added to health-care rolls and claimed that long-term, the trillion-dollar bill will eventually lead to deficit reduction.

Critics say that the bill's supporters have used accounting tricks to keep hundreds of millions of dollars in expenses out of the fine print. They cite several strikes against the reform attempt, from the cost of yet another taxpayer-funded entitlement to the general principle that nowhere in the U.S. Constitution – which sets limits on the federal government's powers – is there an authorization to force people to buy the health-insurance program a federal bureaucrat picks out.

Above all, Republicans countered Pelosi's contention that the health-care bill is "an American proposal that honors the traditions of our country."

"This debate is not about the uninsured; it's about socialized medicine," argued Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., on the House floor. "Your multi-trillion-dollar health-care bill continues the Soviets' failed Soviet socialist experiment. It gives the federal government absolute control over health care in America. … Today Democrats in this House will finally lay the cornerstone of their socialist utopia on the backs of the American people."

Bush speechwriter attacks Hannity, Corsi

From WorldNetDaily
Worries that GOP is filling with 'anger, paranoia, extremism' By Drew Zahn Posted: January 19, 2010 ~ 9:53 pm Eastern © 2010 WorldNetDaily David FrumHow do Republican leaders view the tea partiers – as allies in the fight for smaller government or loudmouths threatening to upset the GOP applecart? As the burgeoning movement has put political pressure on the Republican Party to abandon its centrist ways, some in the GOP establishment have begun to push back – as evidenced by former George W. Bush speechwriter and Rudy Giuliani adviser, David Frum, who yesterday added an attack on WND's Jerome Corsi to his argument that the right is being taken over by "anger, paranoia and ideological extremism." The self-described "alleged RINO" (which stands for "Republican in name only") blasted both Corsi – over his new book, "America for Sale," which warns of global trade agreements and deficits that threaten to undermine both the dollar and American sovereignty – and radio talk host Sean Hannity, for inviting Corsi as a guest. Sean Hannity"This week [National Review Online] provides space to Daniel Griswold of Cato to apply a mild but firm rebuke to Fox's Sean Hannity for showcasing, well, my phrase 'anger, paranoia and extremism' serves pretty well," Frum writes. "Griswold is concerned that Fox helped to launch a new book by conspiracy fantasist Jerome Corsi." Frum continues, "As an NR alumnus, I've been waiting hopefully for the moment when NRO would resume its historical vocation of countering 'anger, paranoia, and extremism' on the right. It's good to see these positive signs, however tentative." Griswold is the director of the Center for Trade Policy Studies at the Cato Institute, a think tank dedicated to "individual liberty, free markets and peace." His review warns tea partiers to stay away from Corsi's book for targeting, among other things, trade deficits with China, the North American Free Trade Agreement and the World Trade Organization. Jerome CorsiCorsi, however, told WND the tag-team attack by Griswold and Frum is just further evidence that the establishment doesn't get it. "It's obvious the free-trade Republicans have no understanding of why tea party protesters are against globalism or loss of sovereignty," Corsi said. "We are attacked as 'extremists' because we don't agree with a centrist Republican Party that includes open borders, globalism and accommodation with the Democrats, including Obama. "The attack on me helps explains why McCain ran such a poor campaign," he added. READ FULL STORY >

Birthers, is Secret Service watching you?

From WorldNetDaily
Agents pay visits to those who question Obama's eligibility By Drew Zahn Posted: January 12, 2010 ~ 10:08 pm Eastern © 2010 WorldNetDaily In blogs, interviews and e-mails, "birthers" around the country are reporting surveillance and visits from the U.S. Secret Service, whose agents have questioned – or, as some report, intimidated – them over their insistence that Barack Obama prove his constitutional eligibility to serve as president. As WND reported, Stephen Pidgeon, an attorney for Washington state plaintiffs challenging Obama's eligibility, grew suspicious in March when his wife and coworkers reported being shadowed by police and three, black SUVs. "We are definitely under surveillance and it's coordinated with Homeland Security," Pidgeon alleged. In November, Dale Laudenslager, a member of the American Grand Jury movement's attempt to have Obama indicted for fraud and even treason, reported on The JAG Hunter blog more direct confrontation: an unannounced home visit by a Pennsylvania state police officer and two Secret Service agents. "They came in regard to the criminal complaint I sent to the FBI and the fact that [Obama] is going to be in a town very close by," Laudenslager writes. "I told them I had no violent intentions, but we do intend to remove [Obama] from office through the court system. I handed them the AGJ presentments. I told them they have been mailed or hand delivered to courts and public officials all over this country. They seemed satisfied, took a copy of the presentments, left their cards and left." Orly Taitz, perhaps the best known of the attorneys challenging Obama's eligibility in several court cases around the country, told the news site Mother Jones, "A number of my supporters had visits from Secret Service, from different agencies, INS, Homeland Security. There are a whole number of people who got these visits to intimidate and harass them." READ FULL STORY >

Glenn Beck on birther issue: 'Dumbest thing I've ever heard'

From WorldNetDaily
Claims controversy is political 'dream come true' for Obama By Drew Zahn Posted: January 04, 2010 ~ 9:22 pm Eastern © 2010 WorldNetDaily On the air today, popular radio host Glenn Beck mocked "birthers" and claimed there is a concerted campaign to get those questioning Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility onto the airwaves – a strategy Beck said would actually benefit Obama. Glenn Beck"There's always games being played behind the scenes at a talk radio show," Beck said. "Rush has always called them seminar callers. But instead of being coy with the seminar callers or with you, I'm just going to expose the game that is going on. Today there is a concerted effort on all radio stations to get birthers on the air." "I have to tell you, are you working for the Barack Obama administration?" Beck scoffed. "I mean, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard." The ongoing dialogue then spun off into ridicule as Beck caricatured those who question the sitting president's eligibility with straw-man arguments reminiscent of jibes made by Obama's apologists in other news outlets. Beck defined birthers as people who believe Obama was born in Kenya or other foreign country, was raised as a Manchurian candidate and somehow brainwashed Hillary Clinton into not exposing his fraud. According to Beck's running joke, birthers believe someone – maybe Obama's KGB "control" – preemptively placed Obama's birth announcement in 1961 Hawaiian newspapers with a "roadmap" of getting an African man into office. As for Obama producing a long-form birth certificate to actually prove his place of birth, Beck questioned, "Why do that when these people ['birthers'] are so discrediting themselves?" The radio host further argued that by distracting the public from actionable issues, "birthers" have become "a dream come true" for Obama, an ideal situation akin to the fantasies of adolescent boys after Hollywood bombshells. "Barack Obama looks at the birthers as Megan Fox," Beck said, referring to the star and sex symbol of the popular "Transformers" films. READ FULL STORY >

Is Obama's $789 billion buying votes instead of jobs?

From WorldNetDaily
Studies show 'stimulus' spent on Democrats, not unemployment By Drew Zahn Posted: December 19, 2009 ~ 12:45 am Eastern © 2009 WorldNetDaily A pair of studies analyzing U.S. jobs and the effects of President Obama's American Reinvestment and Recovery Act suggest the so-called "stimulus" bill has boosted partisan interests far more than employment figures. White House projections in February claimed the $789 billion in spending would "create or save 3.5 million jobs over the next two years" and that over 90 percent of those jobs would be in the private sector. One year into the two-year projections, however, the studies show that not only has the money failed thus far to deliver on either of those promises, but it also has been doled out disproportionately to districts with Democrat representation. The first study, conducted by the Republicans of the House Ways and Means Committee, compares the White House's projections to actual U.S. Department of Labor statistics on a state-by-state basis. The numbers show that 49 of the 50 states have actually lost jobs since the stimulus was passed in February, and that the only state to gain jobs, North Dakota, still has more than halfway to go to meet White House projections. And while calculating how many jobs the stimulus package has "saved" is highly contentious (the administration estimates it has created 640,000 jobs), the Republicans compare the promised 3.5 million jobs the stimulus package was supposed to boost to the net 2.6 million jobs the U.S. has lost since the ARRA was passed. "President Obama said, 'We've seen a significant turnaround in the economy overall since the beginning of the year.' Vice President Biden said, of the 2009 stimulus law, 'It has created jobs,'" the House Republicans point out in a statement. "Outside of the White House, though, real Americans find it difficult to … see any significant turnaround or real job creation. Instead, they see only millions more jobs eliminated and millions more unemployed American workers." The second study, conducted by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, reviewed the distribution of the $157 billion in stimulus dollars already doled out and found results that further bring up questions as to how and why the money is being spent. Celebs to kids: America stinks!

From WorldNetDaily
'55 rich white men drafted Constitution to protect their class – slaveholders' By Drew Zahn Posted: December 14, 2009 ~ 8:49 pm Eastern © 2009 WorldNetDaily Actress Marisa TomeiHollywood celebrities and education gurus have teamed together to distribute to schools across the country a dramatic new curriculum that casts American history as an epic march of victims seeking to shrug off the shackles of the warmongering, racist, capitalist, imperialist United States. The History Channel's airing of the "The People Speak" last night marks the public coming-out party of a movement that has been in place since last year to teach America's school children a "social justice" brand of history that rails against war, oppression, capitalism and popular patriotism. The television special featuring performances by Matt Damon, Benjamin Bratt, Marisa Tomei, Don Cheadle, Bruce Springsteen and others condemns the nation's past of oppression by the wealthy, powerful and imperialist and instead trumpets the voices of America's labor unions, minorities and protesters of various stripes. The accompanying curriculum guide for schools that show "The People Speak" in classrooms, for example, highlights an 1852 reading from abolitionist Frederick Douglass:
What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants brass fronted impudence; your shout of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy – a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour.
The program and discussion guide is the most ambitious resource among many offered to America's schools by the Zinn Education Project, a collaboration of Rethinking Schools and Teaching for Change, as part of a push to encourage history instruction based on educator Howard Zinn's 1980 tome exposing the abuses of America's past, "A People's History of the United States." The project states its goal is to "introduce students to a more accurate, complex and engaging understanding of United States history than is found in traditional textbooks and curricula. … Zinn's 'A People's History of the United States' emphasizes the role of working people, women, people of color and organized social movements in shaping history. Students learn that history is made not by a few heroic individuals, but instead by people's choices and actions, thereby also learning that their own choices and actions matter."

TARP, recovery and now … this!

From WorldNetDaily
Congress scrambles to write economic 'jobs stimulus' 3.0 By Drew Zahn Posted: November 26, 2009 ~ 6:25 pm Eastern © 2009 WorldNetDaily Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama signed a combined nearly $1.5 trillion in federal spending in the attempt to correct the nation's economic tailspin, but with unemployment soaring over 10 percent, Congress is gearing up to pass yet another economic "stimulus" package, perhaps as soon as January. The Los Angeles Times reports that President Obama and fellow Democrats in particular are in process of assembling a new jobs package that would devote unspecified billions of dollars to projects meant to put people back on payrolls in 2010. The House version of "stimulus 3.0" may even be pushed through as quickly as next month. The Times cites Democratic House members disappointed that Obama's $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act wasn't larger and pledging to press a for a new, substantial spending plan to address unemployment. "I hope we don't play around the edges with this and we do what will work. Invest the money now," said Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif. "We have to create jobs, and we have to create them right away." Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, however, believes that more government spending will do nothing to solve unemployment. "There is no doubt that the original stimulus failed to create jobs, and has in fact probably cost additional jobs and prolonged the recession," he said. "To create jobs we need to lower the tax burden to stimulate investment, which is the exact opposite of what the Democrats did earlier this year and now contemplate again." READ FULL STORY >

Obama revives talk of U.N. gun control

From WorldNetDaily
NRA guests warn international treaty would strip 2nd Amendment rights Posted: November 14, 2009 ~ 7:05 pm Eastern By Drew Zahn © 2009 WorldNetDaily Gun rights supporters are up in arms over a pair of moves the White House made last month to reverse long-standing U.S. policy and begin negotiating a gun control treaty with the United Nations. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton first announced on Oct. 14 that the U.S. had changed its stance and would support negotiations of an Arms Trade Treaty to regulate international gun trafficking, a measure the Bush administration and, notably, former Permanent U.S. Representative to the United Nations John Bolton opposed for years. Two weeks ago, in another reversal of policy, the U.S. joined a nearly unanimous 153-1 U.N. vote to adopt a resolution setting out a timetable on the proposed Arms Trade Treaty, including a U.N. conference to produce a final accord in 2012. "Conventional arms transfers are a crucial national security concern for the United States, and we have always supported effective action to control the international transfer of arms," Clinton said in a statement. "The United States is prepared to work hard for a strong international standard in this area." Gun rights advocates, however, are calling the reversal both a dangerous submission of America's Constitution to international governance and an attempt by the Obama administration to sneak into effect private gun control laws it couldn't pass through Congress. Bolton, for example, told Ginny Simone, managing editor of the National Rifle Associations' NRA News and host of the NRA's Daily News program, "The administration is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there's no doubt – as was the case back over a decade ago – that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control." He continued, "There's never been any doubt when these groups talk about saying they only want to prohibit illicit international trafficking in small arms and light weapons, it begs the whole question of what's legal at what's not legal. And many of the implications of these treaty negotiations are very much in their domestic application. So, whatever the appearance on the surface, there's no doubt that domestic firearm control is right at the top of their agenda." [CLICK HERE TO READ MORE]

Protesters target media: 'Can you hear us now?'

From WorldNetDaily
Thousands of Americans demand mainstream media listen to outcry Posted: October 17, 2009 ~ 6:45 pm Eastern By Drew Zahn © 2009 WorldNetDaily Protests at CNN headquarters in Atlanta, Ga"Can you hear us now?" asked protesters around the country this weekend, challenging the mainstream media to drop a perceived news bias and give fair coverage to the growing movement against Obama administration policies. Grassroots organizers pulled together small groups of protesters in dozens of U.S. cities yesterday and today, including more than 100 who descended upon the offices of the Florida's St. Petersburg Times this morning. "The press needs to be unbiased," Joe Sekola, an organizer of a group called the North Pinellas 9.12 Project, told the Times. "You guys are the watchdogs." The paper reports protesters accused the media in general of biased reporting on Big Government issues like health care reform and stimulus spending. They carried signs reading "State Run Media," "Take the Left From Your Slant," and "Journalism Malpractice – Just Report the Facts." [CLICK HERE TO READ MORE]

Court document swears Kenyan birth cert legit

From WorldNetDaily
Owner risks perjury in high-profile case to insist Barack Obama born in Africa Posted: September 06, 2009 ~ 7:20 pm Eastern By Drew Zahn © 2009 WorldNetDaily With a scheduled hearing date Tuesday, Lucas Smith, the man who tried to sell an alleged Barack Obama Kenyan birth certificate on eBay, has filed court papers in a high-profile eligibility case insisting – under threat of perjury – that the Obama birth certificate in his possession is the genuine article. Smith filed his affidavit through California attorney Orly Taitz, who has spearheaded several lawsuits challenging Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to serve as president, as part of a case that includes as plaintiff former presidential candidate Alan Keyes. Taitz posted on her blog Smith's declaration, which claims he obtained the alleged birth certificate from Coast General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya, and insists it's real. "The true and correct photocopy of the birth certificate obtained is attached to this affidavit as Exhibit A," the declaration reads. "I declare, certify, verify, state and affirm under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States of America that the foregoing statements of fact and descriptions of circumstances and events are true and correct." Smith's affidavit, which includes a copy of the certificate, has been filed with Judge David Carter of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Carter is scheduled to preside over a hearing on the case on Sept. 8. Taitz told WND she believes the swiftly approaching court date prompted Smith into action: "He has been in touch with me for quite a while, and he emailed me the document with his signature," Taitz said. "I think he was trying to figure out the most expedient way to bring his message public, and maybe he felt that because I have a hearing coming, that would be the most expedient way." Taitz hopes the court will order expedited discovery, a ruling that would open many of Obama's currently sealed documents, including his college records and Hawaiian long-form birth certificate, to court scrutiny. "We'll see what happens on Tuesday. If Judge Carter has the guts, we may move very fast," Taitz told WND. "If expedited discovery is ordered, I'll be dashing to Occidental College and then be on a flight to Hawaii." [CLICK HERE TO READ ENTIRE STORY]

Multi-state car dealer plans birth-certificate billboards

From WorldNetDaily
Huge signs by interstate will be seen by 300,000 per day in Denver alone Posted: August 30, 2009 ~ 6:55 pm Eastern By Drew Zahn © 2009 WorldNetDaily Peter Boyles of Denver's KHOW RadioA top-rated talk radio host in Denver, Colo., has received some good news about his hopes to erect "Where's the Birth Certificate?" billboards in front of hundreds of thousands of drivers a day when a local businessman heard his radio show and agreed to donate the sign space. Now, WND has learned, that businessman is planning on donating signage in multiple states to get the message out that Barack Obama has yet to prove his constitutional eligibility to serve as president. As WND reported, Peter Boyles, who hosts the top-rated morning program on Denver's KHOW-AM, has been fascinated with the president's refusal to release his long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate to verify his qualification to serve as commander in chief and has dedicated many hours of his program in recent weeks to discussion of all sides of the eligibility issue, much of which has been based on WorldNetDaily's extensive coverage. Federal Reserve Board fights to keep its secrets

From WorldNetDaily
Warns disclosing where money went would cause 'irreparable harm' Posted: August 29, 2009 ~ 12:25 am Eastern By Drew Zahn © 2009 WorldNetDaily The Federal Reserve Board, despite being ordered to disclose to whom it awarded roughly $2 trillion in discount "stimulus" loans, is fighting to keep the information under wraps as a protected "trade secret." Earlier this week, a U.S. district court judge rejected the Fed's argument that the names of borrowers are exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act and ordered the board to release the information by Monday, Aug. 31. The Fed's board of governors, however, has now filed a motion asking the judge to delay enforcement of the order, seeking time to appeal and arguing that disclosing which banks borrowed the funds could lead to a backlash from the banks' customers and stockholders. VeriChip Corporation currently sells a small, under-the-skin Radio Frequency Identification capsule, or RFID, that patients can opt to have implanted, containing a number computer-linked to their medical records, enabling doctors with a special reader to access the information even if the patient is unconscious or unidentified. The company boasts its microchip, roughly the size of a grain of rice, is the only such implant approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. [READ ENTIRE STORY]

New poll shows birthers growing

Majority of GOP, Southerners question president's birthplace Posted: August 01, 2009 - 12:40 am Eastern By Drew Zahn © 2009 WorldNetDaily In a recent telephone poll conducted by Research 2000 for the website Daily Kos, 58 percent of Republican respondents when asked if Barack Obama was born in the USA answered "no" or "not sure." The Daily Kos, which calls itself "the largest progressive community blog in the United States," nonetheless found a reported 527 Republicans and 601 independents to accompany its 743 Democrats in answering the question. Among Republicans, 28 percent answered they believe Obama was born outside the U.S., while 30 percent answered "not sure." Among independents, 83 percent affirmed their belief that the president was born in the U.S., while an overwhelming 93 percent of Democrats insisted it is so. While the disparity between Republicans and Democrats is massive, the poll also demonstrated that where respondents live also makes a significant difference. According to the website's fine print, "A total of 2,400 adults nationally were interviewed by telephone. A cross-section of calls was made into each state in the country in order to reflect the adult population nationally." Of those respondents living in the West, Midwest and Northeast, 87, 90 and 93 percent, respectively, affirmed they believe Obama was born in the U.S. In the South, however – a region defined to include the states of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas – fewer than half have accepted the president's claimed birth in the U.S. Only 47 percent of the South's respondents answered the question "yes," while 23 percent answered they believed Obama was born on foreign soil, while 30 percent were unsure of his birthplace. Robert Schlesinger, author of the Thomas Jefferson Street blog on the U.S. News & World Report website, commented on the regional disparity: "Dixie may once have been the so-called land of cotton," Schlesinger writes, "but it has become the cradle of creeping Birtherism." With all categories and regions combined, the Daily Kos reported 77 percent believe Obama was born in the U.S., while 12 percent were unsure. The website then offered the following commentary on the remaining 11 percent of respondents, who answered they believe Obama was born abroad: "11 percent of Americans are Obama-hating conspiracy theorists," writes the blog's founder, Markos Moulitsas Zúniga. Schlesinger offered a different summary. "I had assumed that the Birthers were a loud, bemusing hyper-minority in the GOP, so the poll numbers are startling both for the region and for the party," he writes. [CONTINUE READING]

Will feds use new power to dictate what you drive?

Senator's take on gasoline mandates: 'We own auto companies, why not?'
By Drew Zahn
© 2009 WorldNetDaily Posted: July 18, 2009 7:35 pm Eastern DES MOINES, Iowa – Now that the federal government has gained control over the nation's auto industry, one U.S. senator contends, it's time to make some changes in the kinds of cars Americans drive and the kinds of fuel they use. According to a Des Moines Register report, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, wants Congress to use "climate change" legislation to mandate that auto manufacturers fit all new cars to run on a blend of 85 percent ethanol. "We own the automobile companies," Harkin said earlier this week. "Why not? I think that will be an easy one." Harkin, the Register reports, also wants to see the climate bill increase installation of E85 fuel pumps around the country and compel the Environmental Protection Agency to up the current limit on ethanol content in gasoline blends from 10 percent to 15 percent. Harkin's plans would pave the way for increasing demand of corn-based ethanol fuel blends and likely be of political benefit to the senator, who not only chairs the Senate Agriculture Committee, but also hails from the state that leads the nation in ethanol production. U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu agreed, stating in a speech last month that all new vehicles should be equipped to run on E85, though Chu spokesman Tom Reynolds later told the Register the Obama administration is not planning to impose mandates on the car companies. "The administration has been clear that the government won't be making day-to-day business decisions for GM and Chrysler," Reynolds said. "Those decisions will be left to the company's executives." Currently, America's three largest car companies make some E85-compatible cars, but have resisted any requirements that all cars be fitted for the fuel. [CONTINUE READING]

Obama fires watchdog who barked at his crony ~ By Drew Zahn

Rush Limbaugh calls action illegal, 'bigger' than Alberto Gonzales fray By Drew Zahn Posted: June 13, 2009 7:25 pm Eastern © 2009 WorldNetDaily Inspector General Gerald Walpin Former Inspector General Gerald Walpin filed two reports exposing gross misappropriation of federal AmeriCorps funds by a prominent Barack Obama supporter and was shortly thereafter fired by the White House, circumstances he told WND are likely linked and others have called an outright illegal action by the administration. "I think you have to look at the facts and the circumstances and reach your conclusions," Walpin said in a WND interview. "I will tell you that [my firing] came only after we had issued those two reports to Congress, and I don't think that's a coincidence." Further, Walpin said, "I am convinced that I and my office are not guilty of any impropriety. In essence, I was fired for doing my job." Independent, federal inspectors general are supposed to be granted special protection from political interference – thanks in part to a law co-sponsored by the then-Senator Barack Obama – to ensure that they are free to investigate waste and fraud uninfluenced by political cronyism. But after Walpin dared to push for action against the St. HOPE Academy program – run by Obama supporter and former NBA star Kevin Johnson – which had misappropriated hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal AmeriCorps funds, he nonetheless found himself fired by the White House under circumstances that have led some to wonder if Obama has violated his own co-sponsored law in retaliation. "There are two big questions about the president's actions," writes Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner. "One, why did he decide to fire Walpin? And two, did he abide by the law that he himself co-sponsored?" Conservative radio talk-host Rush LimbaughRadio talk host Rush Limbaugh fired off an answer to York's questions on his program yesterday: "Firing an inspector general is a big deal. If you'll remember, Alberto Gonzales as attorney general fired a couple of U.S. attorneys. He took hell for it. This is bigger. Inspectors general are supposed to be completely above politics," Limbaugh commented. "This is big. This is political cronyism, power and so forth. … I'm telling you, firing an I.G., because they're not political, it is a much bigger deal than replacing United States attorneys." Furthermore, Limbaugh stated, the unusual circumstances surrounding the night before Walpin's dismissal constitutes a clear violation of the very law Obama helped to pass as a senator. "The Obama administration did it overnight," Limbaugh stated. "[It] broke the law firing the AmeriCorps I.G." [CONTINUE READING]
