These are the Times that Try Men’s Souls… Tyranny Like HELL… ~ By Jan Morgan

In 1776, Thomas Paine penned these words… In Valley Forge, George Washington shared them with his men.

You've probably seen the cycle of Freedom and Tyranny before. But, just in case you haven't, I found this at Templestream Blog to illustrate the point:

The cycle of political freedom and bondage

In the very year that the US became a sovereign country, 1776, a European historian named Alexander Fraser Tytler published "The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic." This book outlined the following:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over a loss of fiscal responsibility, always followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world's great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith,
From spiritual faith to great courage,
From courage to liberty,
From liberty to abundance,
From abundance to selfishness,
From selfishness to complacency,
From complacency to apathy,
From apathy to dependency,
From dependency back again to bondage."

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that we are facing the final phase of the cycle. It really isn't hard to see. You barely have to be paying any attention to see where we are heading. For this reason, I bring you this story that Jan Morgan posted. And what the historian Alexander Fraser Tytler published, "The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic," does not have to be our future. Just sayin'...

America as we know her, is in critical condition. The longer we allow the disease to spread, the struggle to save her becomes more intense, complicated, and bloody.

Now is the time when all Americans must make a choice. It is not a time for summer soldiers and sunshine Patriots. Liberty is under attack from every direction by multiple enemies. Citizens can no longer sit back and expect legislators to fix the damage. After all, those legislators are, for the most part, responsible for not fulfilling the responsibilities and mandates they promised.

Republicans: Time to play chess – for keeps ~ By Robert Ringer

If Republicans don't man up soon, the job of fundamentally transforming the United States into a left-wing dictatorship cannot be more than a few short years away.

Robert Ringer explains why the Republicans shouldn't have given Obama the tax compromise, and had they played the game of politics like it was a chess game, they could have done much better. Robert believes that "the most important reason Republicans should not have gone along with the tax compromise is that it was a continuation of their decades-old habit of acquiescing to Democratic blackmail."

Thomas Paine said that "Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one." With Congress' approval rating at a stunning 13 percent, it doesn't appear that many people disagree with Paine's analysis.

Now, with a new Congress ready to take charge, many are excited about the possibility that the accelerating, anti-constitutional power of government over its citizen serfs will be reversed. But what's the likelihood it will really happen?

In an outgoing flurry of activity, Democrats and progressive Republicans flipped one last gigantic bird to America's Main Streeters. Some were shocked at the audacity, but those of us who have become cynical watching decades of political sewage pouring out of Washington were not surprised by the government's contempt for voters.

Now, the big question is, will Republicans be able to start turning things around before 2012? I believe the answer to that question lies in how successful they will be at cornering Obama into no-win situations. Politics, you say? Yes! Do you believe these fire-breathing, anything-goes political animals are going to respond positively to reason? BHO's entire adult life has been one big game of political one-upsmanship.

For example, regardless of which way the economy appears to be going, BHO will be prepared to take the high road. If the tax compromise produces a temporary, illusory effect on the economy, he will claim that he turned things around by endorsing a tax cut for all Americans.

On the other hand, if the illusion of a turnaround does not come about, his position will be, "To show bipartisanship, I decided to give Republicans a chance and go along with their insane idea to give billions of dollars away to the wealthiest Americans, and, predictably, it didn't work. Now we're going to get back to doing things my way so we can grow this economy." That will give him a perfect excuse for returning to policies that are based on a system that all straight-thinking people realize has never worked: socialism.

NASHVILLE – Citing American patriots such as Thomas Paine, James Madison, Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry, Judge Roy Moore lit a fire in the hearts of tea partiers tonight – inspiring four impassioned standing ovations with his reading of a "bill of particulars" against President Obama.

Moore, WND columnist, author of "So Help Me God" and candidate for governor in Alabama, began by quoting Thomas Paine as he made his case for independence from England:

"These are the times that try men's souls," he told a packed banquet room at the first national tea-party convention in Nashville.

"Once again we live in a trying time, not just trying to the souls of men and women, but the soul of our nation," he continued. "Once again, people across our country are rising up, tired of politics as usual, angry about the direction of our country."

The recent elections in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts send a strong message to the Democratic Party that Americans are weary of the direction in which the nation is headed, he said.

"Equally, if not more importantly, the election in New York sent a strong message to the Republican Party that we're tired of liberal Republicans who don't hold the principles of their party," he told a cheering crowd.

Moore condemned "senseless treaties" like the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, and the Central America Free Trade Agreement, known as CAFTA. He said the nation's borders have been opened to criminals and terrorists, the Constitution discarded, the federal government grown in size and scope "far beyond anything our founders ever imagined," and the nation's debt is soaring.

"Our state sovereignty, routinely ignored by an all-powerful federal bureaucracy, and our concept of virtue and morality has been distorted and twisted to a point that good is now called evil, and evil is now called good," Moore said. "I'll tell you, ladies and gentlemen, we not only find ourselves in a great economic recession, but in a great moral and spiritual depression as well."
