Blame at the pump ~ By Herman Cain

This administration's propensity for moratoriums and prohibitions on oil and natural gas exploration right here at home is dramatically affecting the expectations about global supply and demand. It's that simple.

Announcing a study group to determine if oil speculators are manipulating the market to drive up gasoline prices is ill-informed. It is a diversion from the real problem, which is the lack of a real energy independence plan.

Herman Cain explains how simple it really is: "The problem is supply and demand, and expectations about the changes in those dynamics. That's what drives gasoline prices at the pump."

President Obama recently said that the economic situation was worse than the administration expected when he took office. That's code for "blame Bush" again for Obama's failed economic policies, which have not stimulated the economy. He has chastised the business sector for sitting on more than $2 trillion in accumulated cash instead of hiring people they do not need. That's blaming the business sector for not making stupid decisions to prop up his failed policies. And now that people are feeling the pain at the pump, he blames oil speculators for high gas prices, which are now double what they were two years ago. Remember, that's about the time President Obama took office. And, he says there is nothing that can be done in the short term to ease the pain at the pump. With all due respect, Mr. President, there is something you could do to ease the pain at the pump. Namely, declare and implement a "drill here drill now" strategy. And remove the ridiculous restrictions on shale oil deposits available out West. The very speculators you are blaming for the run-up in gas prices would quickly retreat if they thought you were serious about an energy independence plan to maximize all of our existing natural resources. The problem is supply and demand, and expectations about the changes in those dynamics. That's what drives gasoline prices at the pump.

$8 per gallon gas – if you can find it ~ By Henry Lamb

In a nutshell, Henry explains just how perverse Obama's energy agenda is. Henry explains how Obama cares more about his agenda than the American people. By cutting off the oil supply from the Gulf of Mexico, fuel prices will eventually skyrocket. In the mean time, with the economy already suffering, all those jobs from the oil rig workers will be gone, which of course will ripple through the rest of the economy of the Gulf Coast, and ultimately, the nation.

I have to ask anyone that voted for Obama if this was the kind of hope and change they were expecting?  Just sayin'...

A responsible administration and Congressional leadership would do whatever is required to fix the BP problem in the Gulf without shutting down domestic oil supplies. Next, they would open domestic reserves, on land and in the oceans, to environmentally safe development. A president who is more interested in his citizens' well being than in advancing his own agenda, would not try to force his citizens to use exotic alternative energy that costs much more than petroleum. It is apparent, of course, that Obama's first concern is his own agenda, regardless of what the people or the courts may say.

If America is to survive as the land of the free, it is imperative that the current leadership in Washington be removed and replaced with people who believe in the principles of limited government, free markets, private property, and individual freedom. Two years of leadership by the Obama-Reid-Pelosi trinity demonstrates contempt for these principles. The only reward worthy of their service is early and absolute retirement.

Following Rahm Emanuel's advice, the Obama administration is certainly not letting the Gulf oil crisis go to waste. The BP catastrophe is just what Obama needed to justify pushing his irresponsible energy policy on a weary nation. Obama wants to stop using fossil fuel in favor of more exotic alternative energy sources. He doesn't seem to know, or care, that there is no alternative energy technology that can meet the current energy demand. His actions suggest that if enough tax-generated government subsidies are applied, the technology will emerge.

His recent visit to Smith Electric Vehicles in Kansas City proved to be a dog and pony show to try to convince the nation that his $32 million grant to the firm to produce 500 trucks was well spent. This is a direct subsidy from taxpayers of $64,000 per truck, which, when offered in the marketplace will still cost twice as much as a comparable non-electric vehicle. This comes on the heels of a $2 billion grant to subsidize two solar plants.

So strong is his desire to wean Americans off fossil fuel that he immediately issued a six-month moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. The order was issued as a safety precaution even though the 50,000 well holes drilled in the Gulf since 1947 have leaked far less oil than has been released through natural seepage. As tragic and expensive as the BP spill may be, its impact on the economy can't be compared to the loss of oil production from the Gulf.

Obama was only 12 when OPEC decided to turn off the oil faucet to the United States in 1973. At the time, OPEC supplied only about seven percent of our oil. Nevertheless, gasoline prices more than doubled, and supplies were sporadic, at best. Long lines formed at every gas station; cars with license plates that ended with odd numbers were allowed to purchase gas on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Cars with plates ending in even numbers could buy only on the other days of the week.

Oil from the Gulf supplies nearly ten percent of our petroleum requirement. By turning off this faucet, the price of gasoline will skyrocket, perhaps doubling, as it did in the 1970s.

Despite two court rulings against Obama's moratorium, he continues to insist that no drilling will be allowed. By refusing to issue permits, the Obama administration has effectively stopped Gulf oil production regardless of the courts' rejection of his moratoria.

The first wave of economic impact is already spreading across the 35,000 families that are directly employed by the Gulf oil industry. Each oil rig worker provides employment for three additional people who work in supporting industries. These jobs, too, are evaporating. The deepwater rigs cannot simply sit and wait in hopes that Obama might change his mind. The daily cost for a rig to sit and wait is about $600,000. Diamond Offshore has already announced that its Endeavor rig is moving to Egyptian waters. More will surely follow. Once these rigs are out of the Gulf, they will not soon return.

The second wave of economic impact will begin when prices at the pump begin to rise. Remember the spike in gas prices when hurricane Katrina shut down a few rigs for a few weeks. Now, imagine what the effect will be when there are no rigs in the Gulf, for the foreseeable future.

It's not a conspiracy – it's right out in the open ~ By Patrice Lewis

The first line of my Twitter bio states, "Obama's destruction of Americanism is INTENTIONAL!" Despite this great column by Patrice Lewis, I still believe that statement to be true.

So, here I go again. I'm on a roll this morning. Out of three columns I've blogged about so far this morning, including this one, I've had some disagreement with all of them! First, there was Barry Farber's column, "The American freedom gene." I vociferously disagreed with Barry about complacency being neutralized by the American freedom gene.

And then there was Henry Lamb's column, "How do you spell incompetence?" I wish now that in the intro prologue I wrote that I had mentioned the fact that I truly believe that Obama wasn't suffering from incompetence. Well, not directly. Shivers may run down your spine, but I think that there is something much more sinister than out-and-out incompetence on Obama's part. So, I guess that is where Patrice and I may have somewhat of a disagreement with her column.

Not that I'm saying that Obama had the Deep Horizon oil rig blown up, or anything... But I do believe that the lack of competence in getting the leak stopped may be a little deeper, and I guess it falls into the category of "conspiracy theories" as Patrice explains it here. But I do agree with her in the way that the things Obama is doing IS out in the open. There is no doubt that Glenn Beck has been pointing that out in detail lately. The ongoing drama of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the incompetence in getting it stopped, and followed by Obama's 6 month moratorium on drilling anywhere off-shore may be coupled with the Petrobar connection with George Soros along with a $2 Billion investment from the U.S. Treasury. (I will soon be uploading a video at TheREALjohnny2k channel regarding that connection from a Crime Inc segment on the Glenn Beck Show).

Yes, my dear Patrice, all that you said was correct in the fact that it is all out in the open. But I do disagree as to the reason it's all in the open. I truly believe that it's all about the motive for what is happening in this country regarding the oil spill, the massive debt being created, or the lack of border security leading to the Arizona SB 1070 law going into affect this week. And I began writing about this several years ago in a series called "Setting the Stage." (You can begin reading that now at johnny2k Is Home.)

The problem with conspiracy theories, as I believe Patrice points out, is that in many cases they are to the point of fear mongering. The problem with pointing out incompetence, or even rightly pointing out those things that are right out in the open, is that some (mostly the MSM and Democrats) will still call it fear mongering. But it isn't fear mongering.  It's called putting all the pieces of the puzzle together: President Obama is going to trash our sovereignty and lead us into the New World Order, a One World Government. Maybe it IS a conspiracy, even if it IS right out in the open. There, I said it. Just sayin'....!

Since the dawn of civilization, nations have been born, grown too large and arrogant, and died. There was no conspiracy. It's unfortunately quite normal. Our Founding Fathers knew this very well, and that's why they built in the checks and balances they did. Unsurprisingly, politicians have done their best to erode and bypass and ignore those checks and balances ever since. There's no conspiracy. It's predictable. It's right out in the open.

But here's the thing: In the end, it doesn't matter if our current events are part of a grand and secret conspiracy or not. It doesn't matter if it's pre-planned or just a natural chain of events. It doesn't matter if the Bilderberg Group is in cahoots with Obama to bring about a one-world government, or if it's just a series of greedy politicians and bankers messing us up. It's immaterial.

The important thing is, we still have to fight it.

As you can imagine, as a WND columnist I get e-mails from all kinds of people, including those vocal individuals or groups who have their own personal theories about where we're heading. Martial law, one-world government, TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It) … you name it, I've heard it. Collectively these are known as conspiracy theories.

What is a conspiracy theory? The dictionary defines it as "A theory seeking to explain a disputed case or matter as a plot by a secret group or alliance rather than an individual or isolated act."

Most conspiracy theories spring from a deep distrust of government and, by extension, of the official explanations offered by the government of historical events. "Usually, government is the entity engaging in the conspiracy and the ensuing cover-up, and the individuals who proffer these theories tend to be anti-government, at least to some degree," notes SkepticWiki. Conspiracy theories span decades and even centuries. The 9/11 terrorist attacks, chemtrails, Roswell, the assassination of Kennedy, Hitler's suicide, the assassination of Lincoln, all the way back to the existence of Christ … all have had conspiracy theories surrounding them.

And, as with proving a negative, conspiracy theories can be very hard to disprove.

So when I hear the latest conspiracy theories surrounding recent news events (the BP oil spill, Arizona immigration reform), I'm inclined to dismiss them as yet more rantings from obsessed people with an ax to grind, who claim to have inside knowledge of yet another grand plan to round us all up into concentration camps and gas us.

These obsessed individuals take a sequence of events and embroider it with "if this is true, then therefore this will happen" scenarios that fit with their personal fixation. They only hear the evidence they want to hear, then lavishly embellish it with their own interpretation and just a tinge of hope that what they believe will actually come to pass (so they can say "I told you so").

Conspiracy theories arise when people feel helpless against the destructive tide of events that shape our world. Conspiracies don't arise around joyous events, only malevolent. Theorists believe there must be a reason something happened; it can't have a meaningless, random, accidental or natural cause.

When you think about it, conspiracy theories are easy to understand. They are an attempt by the powerless to make sense out of senseless things, usually by blaming the powerful and elite.

So far there's only one conspiracy theory to which I'm willing to lend an ear. Or, to put it another way, only one theory fits nicely into my pre-existing suspicions. And that is the theory that our country is on the path to destruction.

Why else would the government continue to spend billions – trillions – of stimulus dollars it doesn't have despite evidence that stimulus programs don't work? Why else would it take over the health-care system (against the will of the people) in an attempt to "improve" it despite evidence from other countries that socialized medicine results in rationed services and skyrocketing costs? Why else is cap-and-trade being pushed in the wake of the BP oil disaster, despite projections that show it will raise our taxes catastrophically and bankrupt our already depressed nation?

Yet even this theory fails to stand up under scrutiny. The people planning or implementing these things are not thinking about the destruction of our country per se. Nobody is a villain in their own eyes. They're all doing what they think is right and correct within the bounds of their own vision.

In other words, the "conspiracy" to destroy our country is actually nothing more than the natural tendency for government to grow bigger and more powerful.

Everyone wants more. More funding, a more important title, more staff working under them. Nobody goes into the office in the morning and asks himself, "Gee, I wonder how I can reduce my funding, cut my staff and have a less prestigious job title?" But unlike the private sector (where you get bigger and more powerful by working harder and providing products or services that people want), government bureaucrats achieve their goals by creating more rules and regulations and taxes to get more funding, more staff and more prestige.

I do not believe there are a bunch of guys in black robes sitting around secretly planning on how to enslave us under a one-world government. The bigger and grander and more long-lasting a conspiracy, the less likely it will succeed because people can't keep secrets. Someone will blab.

How do you spell incompetence? ~ By Henry Lamb

Just a little while ago, I posted a column by Barry Farber, titled "The American freedom gene." In my intro prologue at the post, I wrote, "Did he forget about who was President, and the Marxists advisers Obama has working in the White House?" I'm now thinking I should have mentioned something else in that prologue, which this column by Henry Lamb reminded me of. It was because of complacency that got Barack Hussein Obama into the White House in the first place! There was tons of information about Obama that could have been easily accessed. It was complacency that kept people from bothering to read a book, such as Jerome Corsi's "The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics And The Cult Of Personality." It was complacency that lead a lot of people to not bother to vote in the Republican primaries, giving us John McCain as a lousy alternative to The One.

So, how do you spell incompetence? O-B-A-M-A. But how do you spell complacency? T-Y-R-A-N-N-Y. Just sayin'...

If, as he claims, Obama has been in charge of the cleanup since day one, requiring BP to get his administration's permission before taking any action, then the failure of all the efforts to stop the flow of oil must be laid at Obama's doorstep. The failure to prevent the oil from reaching the wetlands and beaches must also be laid at Obama's feet.

OBAMA clearly spells incompetence throughout the administration and the programs it has tried to impose. This incompetence can be contained, somewhat, on Nov. 2, and completely erased in 2012.

"O" is his logo, with dramatic red and blue swirls that are supposed to imply some sort of connection to the nation over which he now presides. After observing more than a year of performance, it is clear that his connection to his Muslim roots is far greater than his appreciation of the U.S. Constitution.

"B" is his background, rich with influence from Marxists and loony leftists who guided his early years and followed him through his initial training in Chicago thugocracy. Now that he is in Washington, he has selected an incredible team of Marxist sympathizers and leftists to advise his every move.

"A" is the arrogance that exudes from his every movement. It appears that he believes he was endowed by his Creator with not only the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," but also with total infallibility of thought, word or deed.

"A" is the attitude that is always condescending. When he speaks, everything is about "Me, my, and I." He thinks his opponents are either stupid people who "cling to their guns and religion," or are one exercise away from being domestic terrorists.

How do you spell incompetence?

Obama said he would post bills on the Internet for five days before he signed them. He lied.

Obama said his stimulus plan would keep unemployment below 8 percent. He was badly mistaken.

Obama said his would be the most transparent, open administration in history. Hahahahahaha!

Obama swore he would "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States." Instead, he created a health-care law that requires citizens to purchase a product; there is no constitutional authority for Congress or the president to impose such a requirement on its citizens.

Obama's incompetence is most graphically revealed by his handling of the tragedy in the gulf. Eager to appear to be in control, nine days after the accident (April 29), he mentioned the oil leak for the first time, saying he had ordered Secretary Salazar to complete a report within 30 days.

His first visit to the area was May 2, when he tried to convince the nation that he had been in charge of the entire operation since day one. Once Obama became aware that the gulf event was a problem, he tried to get in front of it by appearing to be in control. Actually, he was competing with BP officials for TV face-time to convey the appearance of being in control.

Actually, he was grasping for ideas. On May 21, his friends at the Center for American Progress, a George Soros-funded think tank, suggested that he name a "Point Person" to coordinate the government's action. Obama complied within a few days.

On May 26, the same people told Obama to demand that BP set up an enormous fund to cover future obligations. It didn't matter to his friends at the think tank, or to Obama, that the president does not have the authority to demand such a thing from a private corporation. It didn't matter that BP had already accepted full responsibility for damages and had already set up a claims process.

I'm with Burt on this one. It is getting tedious having to look at what looks like chocolate covered birds and oil stained beaches, not to mention the rust colored sea water that looks like a giant sewer leak. And to have the Extortionist-in-chief TELL Tony Hayward of British Petroleum that they MUST put $20 billion in a fund, well, it was the moment that I remembered, "oh, yeah, that's how they do things in Chicago..."

It was so refreshing to find out that General Stanley McChrystal had a few quaint conversations with a military-hating nutcase from Rolling Stone, just to get our minds off the Obama Disaster in the Gulf for the week. Had it not been for McChrystal's massive error in judgment, I may have had to resort to watching the World Cup soccer games and listening to the harmonious tunes of the vuvuzelas to get away from it all. Just sayin'...

After insisting that there will be a six-month moratorium on offshore drilling, which would do far more long-term damage than the oil leak, Obama then tried to turn the screws on BP, by insisting they pay all of the laid-off oil crews, not just those working for British Petroleum, for income he, himself, was causing them to lose. Even BP finally had enough and said they would pay their own workers, but not Exxon's or Shell's.

If Obama had gotten away with it, I'm sure he planned to solve America's unemployment ills by forcing BP to put the other 20 million out-of-work Americans on the company payroll.

I submit that there is one consolation for Barack Obama. If much more crud is released into the Gulf of Mexico, this two-bit messiah might actually be able to walk on water.

The worst thing about the oil leak, assuming you don't live and work in the Gulf, was having to keep viewing the same stuff on TV day in and day out for months on end. It got so bad, I began seeing the undersea footage, the oily pelican and Thad Allen in my dreams.

Speaking of Mr. Allen, if he's retired from the Coast Guard, why does he get to wear his uniform on camera? I always thought veterans only got to take their uniforms out of mothballs for parades. Apparently, Mr. Allen wears his to the supermarket.

With the 24/7 media attention that's been devoted to the ecological disaster, it is easy to regard the leak as the worst thing that's ever happened to the environment. But even now it only ranks as about the 35th worst oil spill in the past hundred years. Something else that we should not lose sight of is that the Gulf is a magnet for hurricanes, just as California is one for earthquakes and New York City is one for Islamic terrorists. That means that bad stuff is always going to be happening – and if people are going to live in such places, they have to accept the risks. British Petroleum will not always be around to pay for the cleanup.

The leak has led to Obama's declaring a six-month moratorium on deep-sea drilling, which should pretty much finish off the Gulf's economy for the foreseeable future, unless Judge Feldman's ruling stands. On the other hand, our president did send $2 billion to Brazil to help finance deep-sea oil exploration by Petrobar, a company in which George Soros had recently invested. And, yes, Brazil is the very same country that recently joined with Turkey in proclaiming its alignment with Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

A lot has been said and written about Obama's handling of the crisis. None of it has been good. Even some of his erstwhile acolytes have taken him to task. I can understand their disillusionment. The man did announce, after all, that with his election, the earth would be healed and the oceans would recede, and nary a word about oil pollution. The magnitude of the leak has certainly confirmed that BP knew what it was doing when it sank a well there. Unfortunately, the leak also emphasizes how stubborn and shortsighted Congress has been in its refusal to drill in Alaska or anywhere else that is currently inhabited by caribou, jackrabbits, elk, snakes or snails.

The fact is, Obama has brought it all on himself. When he was courting us, he spoke of transparency and of uniting the right and the left; he rhapsodized about a post-racial America and an America that would be respected around the world. Well, I guess we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves if we bought the lies. Even someone as bright and successful as Sandra Bullock fell for Jesse James' line of bull hockey.

I almost feel sorry for the president. I mean, it must seem as if God, Himself, is pulling the rug out from under him. After all, it was only five years ago that all the left-wing creeps, including Obama, were mugging George Bush over his handling of a natural disaster and, suddenly, we have Obama tripping over his own feet in the same general area.

Understand, I don't blame him for ignoring the disaster in the early days. After all, the media had given him a pass for ignoring the recent flooding of Nashville. They had ignored it, too. But once the oil leak became bigger news than North Korea's sinking of a South Korean ship, bigger news than the unholy Muslim flotilla and even bigger news than the arrest of Joran van der Sloot, I would have assumed that Obama would have done all in his power to give the illusion of competence and concern. Instead, he golfed and partied while Gov. Jindal's request for material and equipment was ignored. We had the Coast Guard ordering skimmer ships shut down because they didn't have a prescribed number of life jackets on board. We had offers of assistance from Norway, Holland and 11 other nations being refused because of something called the Jones Act, for no other reason than Obama didn't want to upset the maritime unions and their insistence that only ships flying the U.S. flag – and employing U.S. union crews! – be allowed to function in U.S. waters.

Is oil catastrophe fulfillment of Genesis prophecy?

Just a weird coincidence? Or is it God's hand? Just sayin'...

Gallups is not alone with the sentiment America could be under a curse from God.

"I believe this is evidence that when you turn your back on Israel, especially when you've been a supporter, you're gonna see judgments come from God," said Hal Lindsey, author of "The Late Great Planet Earth."

"It's finally reaching the point where God is removing His protection from us," he said. "I believe we back away from being a friend to Israel at our peril. We need to come back to be a supporter of one who is so important in God's plan."

Regarding the oil spill specifically, Lindsey said, "I think that this disaster is just one of many disasters. Our country is falling apart economically. The current government is overturning our constitutional republic, turning it into a socialist country. That's about as big a curse as you can get. We just have one catastrophe after another and then we have this big wake-up call in the Gulf."

Is there a spiritual, biblical connection to the BP oil catastrophe?

A new video on YouTube is suggesting a possible link to the disaster due to America's recent treatment of Israel, and at least one well-known Bible analyst, Hal Lindsey, thinks there's a valid correlation.

"April the 19th, Israel celebrates its independence in 2010," Gallups says in narration on the video. "On April the 19th, Fox News reports that the U.S. will no longer automatically support Israel in the United Nations. The next day, on April the 20th, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explodes. Coincidence? Or the hand and judgment of God?"

The minister cites an ancient promise God made to Abraham, the patriarch of the 12 tribes of Israel, one tribe of which is Judah, from which the Jews derive their name.

Its first sentence reads: "The Obama administration is reportedly signaling another major shift in policy towards one of its staunchest allies, Israel, and this shift could change the way it votes at the Security Council. The change would mean an end to the U.S.' use of its veto power in the United Nations Security Council when certain anti-Israel resolutions are introduced for a vote.‪"

Gallups says while he was preparing his radio show, he wondered what else happened in the time frame of the rig explosion, to see if there was any connection to anything biblical at all.

He found the Fox News article dated April 19, and said what's significant about the date is that it's Israel's Independence Day this year.

Although Israel's original declaration took place May 14, 1948, the annual celebration actually floats from year to year in Israel, based on the lunar-based Hebrew calendar, and took place on April 19, 2010.

Upon realizing the date connection, "I looked at that and chills went up and down my spine," he told WND. "That's when I knew there was a correlation. To me, I just immediately felt a spiritual connection to it. If you have a spiritual perception at all, it really hits you hard."

News detoxification time! ~ By Herman Cain

Herman has a great idea, but it isn't anything I could do! The withdrawal would be more than I could endure. And besides, I would have to have an intervention session. And I know how that would go. It would have to be done by some liberal. It would probably go like something from "The Exorcist" and a liberal would get thrown out of a window. Just sayin'...

There is one thing Congress should do before it takes an extended vacation, and that is to make the current tax rates permanent. It would provide some much-needed certainty about taxes, which would cause businesses to start growing their businesses again. Yes, we would then see some real job growth instead of imaginary and saved jobs.

If voters could persuade Congress to kill the cap-and-trade bill and make the tax rates permanent while I am on vacation from America's problems, my return would be like waking up to a wonderful dream.

If not, I will be returning to the same national nightmare we are in right now.

I know you are not going to believe this commentary, but try.

I am not going to read, watch or listen to any news stories about what is going on in this country for the next seven days. The only exception would be if I overhear someone mention that there has been another national or natural disaster. Otherwise, nada! Nor am I doing any of my radio shows.

I am taking a vacation from the problems of America.

For one week:

• I will not hear another toothless Obama speech.

• I will not hear another liberal try and defend the president's mishandling of the crisis in the Gulf, mishandling of the economy and national security.

• I will not hear or read another analysis of Obama's leadership deficiencies, and there are many such analysis including mine.

• I will not hear about another spending proposal by the Democrats to stimulate the economy, even though the first spending binge did not work.

• I will not hear another warning about the unsustainable spending by the president and Congress, which they continue to ignore.

• I will not hear about another tax proposal introduced in Congress to prevent further damage to a stalled economy, only to be rejected by the Democrats.

• I will not hear about yet another grenade discovered in the health-care-deform legislation, which raises taxes and impedes our choices and our liberties.

• I will not have to endure more congressional bashing of British Petroleum for pure political theater, which has produced absolutely no benefit to solving the problem.

• I will not have to endure more deceptive stories about an economic recovery, the ups and downs of the stock market or the economic pain of the 15 million unemployed people who are suffering because of presidential, administration and congressional incompetence.

The last time I did a national-news detoxification was in 2004, and when I came back I had decided to run for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, because I could no longer sit on the sidelines and watch what was happening to this country even then without trying to do what I could do. We owe it to our grandchildren.

Although I finished an impressive second place in that Republican primary race in 2004, I have been defending the pursuit of happiness ever since through commentaries, speeches, radio and TV. Who knows what moment of insanity about public office I might have this time after my news detoxification? I'm just saying.

Gandalf Goes to the World Cup

With the Gulf of Mexico quickly becoming an oil bath, I think it's time to lighten things up a little today.

And speaking of Oilbamagate, why haven't they figured out how to plug the hole yet? For heaven's sakes, why haven't they tried filling the hole with ABC gum? Even Obama's kids knew that! And all this to interrupt yacht races and... oh, yeah, Obama's golf game with Joe Biden. Hmmm....

And then there is the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010. Why aren't more people talking about that threat to our freedom? Joe Lieberman wants to give President Oilbama the "Kill Twitter Switch!" Wait, I thought they already had that. Enough with the stupid whale already! And even worse, AG Eric Holder wants to use the Act to kill the Mafia Wars on Facebook before Costra Nostra takes over the country... (He obviously doesn't want to follow in J. Edgar Hoover's footsteps!)

Well, in the meantime, a new issue has risen in the news cycle. It seems that there is a rising threat of vuvuzela terrorism going on at the World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa. A friend of mine that lives in South Africa tells me that people keep thinking that they are hearing swarms of bees... That can't be good. And then there's the threat of a looming worldwide AIDS epidemic because of people blowing each others vuvuzela. Quick, somebody call WHO! Ban the vuvuzela now before this becomes another Illuminati NWO conspiracy theory! Never mind, Alex Jones has it covered...

And speaking of the vuvuzela... I had no idea what it was. It all started with my friend on twitter on Friday, when TXCupCake tweeted "If you don't follow these tweeps, I'll be forced to blow my vuvuzela at you!..." Huh?  Yep, I had to ask... I haven't been following the World Cup soccer thing, (ever!)... And I received the answer quickly from TXCupCake: "@johnny2k Let me warn you.... it's the most annoying (sic) noise in the world... (aside from Hilary Clinton's laugh) http://www.vuvuzela.fm/"

Now that we have all of the severely serious (or is that seriously severe?) stories out of the way, it's time for my Fathers' Day gift to lighten up your day, DAD! Now, this is what I call entertainment for my father (and even if he has no idea who Gandalf is, he shouldn't feel bad, because I don't have a clue, either!):

The most dangerous president in history ~ By Henry Lamb

While Henry Lamb discusses Obama's dictatorial pattern, I'm reminded of Hugo Chavez, maybe one of the most narcissistic leaders in the world. But Hugo doesn't run a powerful country such as America, and that is the scariest part of this: Obama does. To top it all off, Henry had concluded this column with, "his vision for the rest of the world is even more frightening," and fortunately for us this morning, "That's for another day." I am not sure we need anything more to frighten us today. But actually, I think a good number of the readers at this blog probably have a very good understanding of where Obama wants to take the world. And Obama's vision for the world truly is frightening to think about. Just sayin'...

What's most dangerous about this man is his restructuring the government to be operated by a collection of appointed czars, who are not accountable to Congress, who can exercise powers not granted to the government to achieve nearly dictatorial authority over the citizens of the United States.

This is a limited look at only a few areas of domestic policy; his vision for the rest of the world is even more frightening. That's for another day.

Obama believes in the rule of law – his law. No other law is relevant. No other law matters. When Obama speaks, he expects the world to obey.

In his Tuesday night performance, he said, "I will meet with the chairman of BP and inform him that he is to set aside whatever resources are required to compensate the workers and business. …" "Inform him?" Where does Barack Hussein Obama get the authority to issue orders to the CEO of a private corporation? There is no such authority in the Constitution. There is no law that empowers the president to "inform" the CEO of any corporation how he will spend the corporation's money. Obama couldn't care less about the Constitution or the law.

There was no constitutional authority for him to essentially take over General Motors and Chrysler, or the banks. Obama couldn't care less about the law. When he speaks, he expects the world to obey.

There is no constitutional authority for the federal government to require American citizens to purchase health insurance or any other product or service. It doesn't matter. Obama spoke; his congressional majority of comrades obeyed.

In 18 months, the man has demonstrated that he cares nothing about the system of government created by our founders and enshrined in the Constitution. He has demonstrated that he fully intends to "fundamentally transform" the United States of America – as he promised in his campaign. Now we are beginning to get a picture of the nation he intends to build. The picture is frightening.

Virtually everything Obama has done since taking office has expanded both the size and power of the federal government. The federal government our founders constructed is a government limited to the specific powers enumerated in the Constitution. Those powers not enumerated are expressly reserved to the states and to the people.

Obama can't comprehend any limitations on his power. The moment Arizona enacted a law that empowered state law enforcement officers to check for citizenship, Obama bad-mouthed the state legislature and governor – without even reading the law. There have been arrogant presidents before, but none that can compare to the sickening self-centered narcissism that exudes from this man.

Obama's declaration that America must end its addiction to oil misses the point entirely. America is not addicted to oil at all; America is addicted to the lifestyle made possible by the most efficient, abundant energy source yet discovered. Americans would be delighted to move to any energy source that will provide the same or better lifestyle at less cost.

In a capitalist society such as America, government's role in the market is limited to providing a level playing field for the entrepreneurs who risk their own assets to provide a product or service in hopes of making a profit. Only in totalitarian systems are markets managed by government.

The reason the nation has not switched to solar, wind or other alternative energy sources has nothing to do with our addiction to oil; it has everything to do with cost and convenience.

Obama has decided that cost is irrelevant. He wants to wean America from oil and bond the nation to exotic alternatives, regardless of the cost. When Obama speaks, he expects people to obey. He is ready to artificially and unnecessarily increase the cost of carbon fuels in the form of taxes and fees, in order to fund subsidies for wind and solar energy sources. It doesn't matter to Obama that the environmental disaster that will be created by the solar farms and wind farms is much greater than the Gulf oil spill.

The Great Pretender ~ By Robert Ringer

It is always more fun putting these blogs together when there is a relevant video to include, especially one that is entertaining. This one here was the perfect fit for Robert's column:

Of course, as fun as it is to entertain you for a few moments, I don't want the above video to distract you from what Robert was saying in this column. I noticed that Robert was mentioning Huckabee's show last week, where "He paraded out one guest after another – entrepreneurs, inventors, engineers and chemists – to present remarkable solutions for cleaning up the oil in the Gulf." And yet, Obama did nothing. It reminded me of what I wrote regarding Erik Rush's column last night, "It's the sabotage, stupid!" I wrote:

It's probably just me, but it's almost as if the Obama administration allowed the oil rig disaster and resulting spill to get as bad as it is so that there would be a much bigger crisis that they wouldn't let go to waste.

And this column by Robert Ringer seems to be even more support for my suspicions. Just sayin'...

Obama has been following FDR's dictatorial playbook to the T. In his 1937 inaugural address, at a time when unemployment was still rising (15 percent on Inauguration Day), FDR bodaciously said, "Our progress out of the Depression is obvious."

Sound familiar? It should. With the economy on the verge of total collapse, The Great Pretender continues to look his teleprompters in the eye and tell Americans how he's saved the country from a depression and that "the worst is now behind us." He always sounds so darn convincing when he says these things, but I hear through the White House grapevine that on at least one occasion after slinging this kind of B.S., he was overheard singing to himself in the Oval Office:

Oh yes, I'm the great pretender,
Pretending that I'm doing well.
My need is such, I pretend too much,
I'm lonely but no one can tell.

Lacking a really great crisis, The Great Pretender, hopefully, is going to feel a lot lonelier starting next January.

The Marxmeister in the White House now says he takes full responsibility for ending the oil mess in the Gulf. He also says he wants to "know whose a-- to kick," that he "can't suck it up with a straw," and … well, you know … the ongoing narcissistic spiel – "I, me, my … blah, blah, blah" – day after day, week after week, ad nauseam.

Watching his recent performances on the Gulf oil disaster made me think about a monster hit The Platters had in the '50s called "The Great Pretender." Little did they know that the champion Great Pretender wouldn't even be born until 1961 – probably in Kenya … but, then, no one is really sure about that because no one is allowed to see his birth certificate.

Everyone but 1) those on the far left, 2) Bill O'Reilly and 3) the loons (O'Reilly's word) who have yet to return from lunch realizes that The Great Pretender has had a Marxist agenda since even before his pot-smoking days at Columbia. Names like Wright, Ayers, Lloyd, Dunn, Sunstein, Holdren and Jones (both Jeff and Van) are well-known to those who have taken the trouble to learn about The Great Pretender's agenda.

As ever more people come to realize that the country has been hijacked by this angry young Marxist, many would argue that a better title for him might be The Great Reactor. Obama listens to the news – especially Fox News – then reacts to his critics by saying or doing whatever they accuse him of not saying or doing, or by changing his tune regarding something he's said or done that offends too many people. Sort of humorous to watch – if the fate of an entire country were not at stake, that is.

Perhaps I'm getting soft with age, but I almost feel sorry for The Great Pretender. His flipping and flopping and spinning and twisting and contradictions have become downright embarrassing. He's Abbott and Costello and Laurel and Hardy all rolled into one. I admit it – I'm truly embarrassed for him.

Now, of all people, Mike Huckabee – continuing his swift turnabout in an effort to make voters forget about his slobbering interview of Michelle Obama (who, he tried to convince us, wakes up every morning frantically worrying about childhood obesity) – has succeeded in making The Great Pretender look like an incompetent, arrogant boob.

Hopefully, you saw The Huckster's show last weekend. He paraded out one guest after another – entrepreneurs, inventors, engineers and chemists – to present remarkable solutions for cleaning up the oil in the Gulf. It truly was amazing to watch the simplicity of the methods presented, as contrasted with The Great Pretender's spending his time talking about kicking a--, wagging his finger at everyone and bending over and picking up a lonely tar ball on the beach in his daily photo-ops.

Was the oil spill really just an accident? Probably. BP America Chairman and President Lamar McKay recently said that it was caused by "a failed piece of equipment." I'll buy that, at least for now. But it doesn't matter. Rahm never said that you have to create a crisis. He already knew there are crises popping up all the time. All he said was that you should never allow a good one to go to waste.

In the case of the BP oil accident, it was a slam-dunk. More to the point, it was like unlocking the door to the EPA's cage. Obviously – surprise, surprise – offshore drilling is now out of the question, right?

So it puts a few hundred thousand people out of work (ripple effect) … so what? The progressive must do what he must do to protect "the people," even if it means taking away their jobs and giving them higher gas prices to boot. What in the world would we do without government to protect us?

So, yes, the BP crisis will not be wasted if it results in an end to offshore drilling. Nevertheless, I think The Great Pretender is going to have to come up with another crisis – or two – before November to pull off a number of miracles for the Demagogic Party.

It's the sabotage, stupid! ~ By Erik Rush

It's probably just me, but it's almost as if the Obama administration allowed the oil rig disaster and resulting spill to get as bad as it is so that there would be a much bigger crisis that they wouldn't let go to waste. And then Obama used his Oval Office speech to push cap and trade. This column by Erik Rush seems to support that theory. So does the fact that other countries that have the ability to assist the United States and offered their assistance were turned down. The administration's claim was that it would have violated the Jones Act, which doesn't hold water, or oil for that matter, because the act could have been waived. Just sayin'...

I don't think the Deepwater Horizon oil rig itself was sabotaged to cause this disaster – but it has no doubt been perceived as most convenient by the administration. The hitch is that, unless Obama plans to seize power through a coup, Americans are already so disgusted with him that they're likely to be ready to run him out of Washington on a rail by November 2010, let alone 2012.

So, while visions of cars from "The Jetsons" dance in some Americans' heads, let us remain focused on communicating to our neighbors what this administration is really about and doing our part to derail the obscenity that is cap-and-trade.

This is really getting a little tedious.

Along with millions of Americans, on Tuesday night, I watched President Obama's Oval Office address to the nation on the subject of the Gulf oil spill and the "multitude of challenges" our nation currently faces. I happened to be in the "green room" of a network-news studio with a bunch of pro analysts; the opportunity to gauge their reactions proved quite valuable.

Of course, I already have a good idea of what average Americans are thinking (as opposed to pro analysts); I hear from them all the time. And it wasn't long at all before the American people – in interviews, the blogosphere and messages to their favorite pundits – began delivering their own analysis. This, not surprisingly, was very similar to what I had heard from the pros – prior to their having even hit the airwaves.

The American people – like me and those celebrated analysts – believe that Obama is simply using the Gulf oil-spill crisis to further his agenda, that being the comprehensive government takeover of as many areas of the private sector as possible and implementing big-government collectivism. Some call this communism.

Although the president appears to be ignoring what the capriciousness of his actions suggests, it was not difficult for even the least attentive viewer of his speech to discern that his plan to create additional bureaucracy to oversee the oil industry, penalize British Petroleum for its part in the crisis and tout alternative energy solutions is merely a tissue-thin ruse for exploiting the situation toward further advancement of his malevolent program.

We can't afford not to change how we produce and use energy. …

I was almost shocked that Obama stooped to employing this overused multilevel marketer's platitude as part of his rationale. Well, we did ask for transparency, and Tuesday night's oratory was about as transparent as this president is going to get. His hawking the necessity for America to begin the wholesale use of inefficient, expensive alternative energy sources was clearly Obama-speak for passing cap-and-trade, which promises to do for America what it did for Europe – transfer massive amounts of taxpayer wealth to governments and their chosen energy-industry bed buddies for a hundred years to come.

The transition to clean energy has the potential to grow our economy and create millions of good, middle-class jobs. …

The president is well aware that this statement is rubbish. The so-called transition to clean energy has the potential to create millions of government jobs for former ACORN employees and volunteers, and other individuals of their questionable character, and little more than this in the short term.

Are you prepared for technology to fail? ~ By Phil Elmore

It was late Sunday night when I went to post a column here, and a screen saying that Blogger was temporarily out of service would come up. "No problem," I thought, "I'll try back in a little while." For two hours, I continued to check back to see if blogger was up and running yet. I went to Blogger's status page to see if they knew about the problem.  I also checked on twitter to see if any tweets had been posted saying what the problem was or if they had any estimated time of when blogger would be back up. There was absolutely no communication from Blogger about the problem. I began to start losing patience after several hours of constant checking for status and checking to see if I could post yet.

What I did then was to do a search on twitter for "@blogger," which resulted in seeing a torrent of tweets to Blogger. I was relieved to know that I was not the only person with the problem. I also saw that many of the tweets written to Blogger were beginning to get nasty. A few of the tweeters were threatening to start blogging at WordPress, another free blogging service. But the overall theme of the tweets was beginning to show panic. That was when I tweeted to Phil to let him know about the problem and the panic when technology fails.


The one scary thought I had through the turmoil, though, was the fact that technology can fail due to human error, or, insidiously, because of an intentional act of terror, or worse: the government pulling the plug.  Just sayin'....

The reality of the 2003 Northeast Blackout was more mundane ... and perhaps more disturbing. The cascade failure of the power grid, which some parties tried to blame on Canada, underscored the relative fragility of the energy network on which we all depend so strongly. A single point of failure can, under the right conditions, become a catastrophic outage, plunging thousands and even millions of people into more than darkness. To lose power is not just to lose light, but to lose heating, cooling, communication and entertainment. In short, when technology fails, it fails us in every facet of our day-to-day lives. When we and our neighbors experience such a failure at the same time, panic, conflict and injury or death are not far behind.

The time to prepare is before technology fails. You depend on technology; we all do. How you cope with its failure is your choice ... and your responsibility.

On June 7, blogger stopped working. The outage was longer than just a couple of hours. It was long enough, in fact, for people who depend on blogger to, well, blog, to start to freak out. At microblogging site Twitter, a rising note of alarm started to creep into posts that went like this: "Is anybody else having trouble getting blogger to work?" It got worse as the outage persisted, and people who have made updating their blogs part of their daily routines suddenly couldn't communicate with their readers.

As much as we might be tempted to dismiss bloggers as basement-dwelling loners engaged in the Internet equivalent of talking to themselves, it's a fact that a great many people get their news from and spend time communicating with a network of bloggers who use public and commercial blogging sites (rather than their own websites). It was one of them, John Kubicek, who first brought the blogger.com outage to my attention. John maintains a popular conservative blog in which he summarizes major news events and links to various conservative and libertarian columns.

"See the panic?" John wrote to me. "PANIC? Like the end of the world kind of thing? It can be more than just annoying when technology fails. Think fishing and shrimping in the Gulf. People who depend on technology are affected by failures sometimes for their livelihood, and it can be devastating."

I thought about that for a long time. Mr. Kubicek quite rightly points out that when a major piece of our technological world goes awry, it can affect us to the point of destroying our jobs and our lives. The oil leak [See video below] still raging in the Gulf is one of the best examples. Technology intended to prevent an accident of this kind completely failed, triggering week after week of finger pointing, excuses and failed attempts at solutions – all while the Obama administration refused to take the problem seriously.

In only too typical fashion, Obama is more concerned with covering his own posterior while mouthing vulgar, contrived comments calculated to make him look tough. The problem in this case, of course, is that pencil-necked bureaucrats known for their stilted public speaking voices and their nagging tendency to apologize for America at every conceivable turn can rarely affect a street-tough image that anyone finds believable.

Dukakis rode a tank, the expression on his face making him look slack-jawed and simple underneath his ridiculous helmet. John Kerry put a shotgun over his shoulder, as if we'd believe he's an avid hunter who wouldn't do his best to ban your guns. The mediocre-at-best George W. Bush wore a flight suit and landed on an aircraft carrier, ludicrously declaring accomplished a mission that grinds on killing our soldiers to this day. And now Barack Hussein Obama, the man whose masterful manipulation of modern media prompted us to dub him our technology dictator, has taken to the airwaves threatening to kick someone's behind, as if we'll believe he's a passionate fighter for truth and justice and not simply a brittle, defensive, incompetent tyrant.

Technology brought us imagery of these failures. Technology was used by these men in their attempts to spin their failures and their flaws into some false belief on the part of voters that such men could or should be trusted. As we've learned only too well watching the devastation in the Gulf, however, technology can collapse at any moment, leaving us to discover just how dependent we have become in relying on something that is fundamentally not reliable.

What's the longest you've ever gone without power? In 1998, a derecho (a violent straight-line wind storm) knocked out the power to my city. Over the next three days, my desperation grew as hour after grueling hour without power, without hot water, without the ability to cook the majority of food in the kitchen, without a freezer to preserve that food, without any form of entertainment that was not battery-powered AM radio, without any light at night that did not come from the flashlights I had sprinkled throughout the house, took its toll on my patience. I started calling home whenever I was not present, hoping against hope that the answering machine would pick up, indicating that power was restored. After three days of this, when I finally heard my own digital voice on the other end of the line, the message I left was incomprehensible. I was too busy blubbering with delight that this long weekend's sojourn into primitive living was finally over.
