No Place for Dissent in Andrew Cuomo's New York ~ By Michael Filozof

The idea that a sitting governor of the fourth-largest state in the nation can tell people he disagrees with politically that they have "no place" in the state he governs is breathtakingly frightening. I cannot recall any American governor anywhere essentially telling American citizens to shut up or get out of his state. What about the constitutional rights to free speech, free association, and freedom of the press? What ever happened to the Madisonian idea that the rights of political minorities are to be protected from the tyranny of the majority? Whatever happened to all the incessant leftist rhetoric about "diversity" and "multiculturalism"? I guess "diversity" doesn't apply to conservatives, does it?
~~ Michael Filozof
My good friend Phil Elmore shared this blog post from American Thinker on his Facebook timeline. In his description for the timeline update, Phil writes, "Remember when Hillary Clinton famously shrieked that 'We are Americans, and we have a RIGHT to debate and disagree with ANY administration!' Well, Democrats only believe in dissent when they are not in control."

What makes Gov. Cuomo's statements even more shocking is that in recent months, as Thomas Lifson adds, "New York State is currently running a national ad campaign urging companies to move to New York and open new businesses there, in order to receive a ten year tax holiday." Thomas then states the obvious, that: "These television commercials (seen regularly on Fox News Channel among others) need to be amended to indicate that no businesses owned by or employing people who believe in the Second Amendment or in the sanctity of unborn life are welcome in the state."

There are a few things that should be considered when reading this blog post. First, despite the 10 year "Tax Holiday" being advertised, knowing what Cuomo has said, would you want to move your business to New York? Would you trust Gov. Cuomo to not regulate your business into oblivion if he didn't agree with you?  Wouldn't you finally say, "Gov. Cuomo, you've lost me..."?  No state, local, or national government that comes out so blatantly saying that diverse beliefs are not welcome, deserves to prosper.

What I think is really "breathtakingly frightening," is that what Cuomo actually said publicly is probably what most of those on the far left would like to say. But the truth is, they don't have to say anything at all. They hate freedom and free enterprise.  They want Marxism, not capitalism.  Their actions speak louder than words. Just sayin'...

On American Thinker
In a media interview Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo tagged his opponents as "extreme conservatives" and said that they "have no place in New York."

Who are these "extreme conservatives?" Opponents of gun control, abortion, and homosexual marriage, that's who:

http://alltherightsnark.org/
"The Republican Party candidates are running against the SAFE Act... Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves. Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that's who they are and they're the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the State of New York, because that's not who New Yorkers are."

Let's deconstruct this for a moment. New York's ultra-draconian "SAFE Act" permanently outlawed all military rifles developed in the past sixty years. It created State Police surveillance of all ammunition sales, and a required that the State Police keep a database of all ammunition purchases. It criminalized the possession of firearm magazines that were legally purchased decades ago without compensating the owners. It was passed at 2 A.M. with no committee hearings and no debate. Legislators were given 15 minutes' notice to vote on a 39 page bill -- not enough time to read it. And Cuomo waived a legal requirement that a three-day waiting period for public input occur before the legislation took effect.

And if you think that violates the Second, Fourth, and Fifth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution... you "have no place in the State of New York."

Our inviolable right to self-defense ~ By Phil Elmore

Given these facts of existence, the only legitimate role of government in a free society is the protection of individuals' natural rights. That is why governments are instituted among human beings – or at least, that is why they should be.

When a government denies its citizens' rights or actively seeks to infringe on these rights, it subordinates the individual to the state and injures that individual in the name of the community. By what right is this done? By what right is this force initiated and this theft made? How dare New York's commie libs steal the right of self–defense through their burdensome taxes and their obvious schemes for future confiscation? They have no right to do this; there is no justification for it.

Self-defense is an individual right and, as such, is inviolable ... no matter what lies Democrats tell.

Phil explains the inviolable natural rights of individuals and how it relates to the right to self-defense. Phil's explanation of individual rights and self-defense makes what Bob Lonsberry wrote all the more scarier, as it means the State of New York may just make it even easier for your rights to be violated:
Registration is the foreplay of confiscation, and this piece of legislation would put the physical location of every legal gun in the state at the touch of the government’s finger. The government would know who had guns and where they kept them.

And so too, presumably, would anyone who filed a freedom of information request. New York has already held that its pistol permits – which include personal information as well as a list of handguns owned – are public records. This new list of guns and gun owners would also be a public record.

Which means the bad guys have just learned where every gun is. That tells them what houses are unprotected, that tells them what houses they should burglarize.

And with the list of where each gun is stored, it will make burglary all the easier.

The state in which I live, New York, is contemplating a law that would register and tax every firearm in the state. Already ruling the state most hostile to gun owners, New York's Democrats wish to enact a precursor to confiscation that is not just transparent in its intentions, but onerous in its financial burdens. What is often lost in debates over laws of this type is what they truly say to the citizens they affect. A law that restricts the technology of self-defense is a law that criminalizes self-defense itself. It is a law that violates your civil rights. It is a direct affront to you as a human being.

The Founding Fathers of the United States indicated their acceptance of, and based the United States Constitution on, the concept of natural rights. For the purposes of this discussion, it doesn't matter if you believe in God or not. Most deists and theists believe rights are God-granted, while others believe natural rights come from nature. Natural rights exist regardless.

Because you are a discrete biological entity, you are an individual. Every group of people can be broken into individuals. No group of people can exist as a single living organism because they simply aren't one, any more than a parking lot full of cars can be a single automobile.

Because no human can be another human, no one can live another's life. By virtue of your nature as an individual, you are born with the inalienable property right to yourself as a person. This means that no human being has a claim on your time or your effort without your consent. Think about it. If you do not own you, who does? If you are anything but your own property, you belong to someone else, which makes you that someone's slave. Are you a slave?

Your property right to your person extends to a general right to possess legally acquired property, for no human can exist without property of some kind. This is an axiom of existence. You cannot exist in space unconnected to all other existents, the sole resident of an empty bubble of space-time. This does not mean you have an automatic claim to someone else's property by virtue of your need for it, however. This means that you necessarily have the right to possess property if you can indeed acquire it. Claims to the contrary made by Marxists, collectivists and Michael Moore are empty. If you have no right to possess property once you have obtained it, those making this assertion must be making it naked while floating in empty rooms from which even air has been evacuated.

My gun: A most necessary tool ~ By Phil Elmore

Commentary from WorldNetDaily
Phil Elmore By Phil Elmore Posted: December 24, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 Guns are technology. Many of us no longer think of firearms as technology, however. We've allowed popular culture, emotional mythos and political propaganda to affect our view of these tools. We see them not as labor-saving devices, but as statements. We may uphold them as emblematic of liberty or we may condemn them as inherently, murderously dangerous, depending on our political outlook. But we've stopped understanding them technologically. Greek mathematician and physicist Archimedes is reported to have said, "Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world." A gun is a lever. It is a hammer. It is a screwdriver. It is a pair of pliers. By this, I mean that a firearm is a force multiplier. It saves you labor by making it easier to deliver force to a target with less effort than using your fists alone. This is what all tools, including the lever, do. They amplify – they multiply – your effort so that you can do more than you could with your bare hands. It is in losing this recognition that guns are labor-saving technology that we commit mistakes at the socio-political level. Our popular culture has begun to vilify firearms and those who carry them. Law-abiding citizens who struggle to comply with complex and onerous laws, such as those found in left-leaning states like New York, are repeatedly cast as villains in our popular media. Worse, this propaganda has infected our courts, resulting in a "justice" system that punishes gun owners for daring to be anything other than passive victims. READ FULL STORY >

Trying terrorists, or Bush-Cheney? ~ By Joseph Farah

From WorldNetDaily
"The Obama administration is more dangerous to America in many ways than any terrorist organization. What this cabal is doing to the country in stripping it of its most cherished values, its basic morality, its foundation on the rule of law, its liberties and its economy is more devastating than anything Mohammed and his zealots could have ever imagined."
By Joseph Farah Posted: November 19, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has already had a trial and been convicted of orchestrating the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. that killed nearly 3,000. He should have been put to death by now. Instead, the Barack Obama administration is going to give him another trial – a civilian trial in New York City, of all places – where his defense team will be able to use all the gimmickry and technicalities available to American citizens trying to beat the rap. "Was our client read his Miranda rights?" they will ask. "How many times was he waterboarded?" "Was any of the evidence you are using against our clients obtained illegally?" They will attempt to turn the trial into a circus in which George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are actually accused of crimes – probably much to the satisfaction of the Obama administration, which views their actions in bringing this mass murderer to justice as illegal. Obama's attorney general, Eric Holder, already announced he would investigate whether CIA officers should be prosecuted for their interrogations of Mohammed and others. Maybe instead of prosecuting this monster, he might be called to testify on behalf of the defense. If I were in Mohammed's shoes, I certainly would. Once again, it goes to prove the point that the Obama administration doesn't view even the kind of monstrous terrorism that struck on 9/11 as anything but a criminal justice matter. Famed pastor predicts imminent catastrophe

A respected pastor, best-selling author and founder of a major ministry to teens predicts "an imminent earth-shattering calamity" centered in New York City that will spread to major urban areas across the country and around the world – part of what he sees as a judgment from God. David Wilkerson, author of "The Cross and the Switchblade," a book about his ministry to troubled New York street kids that was later made into a movie starring Pat Boone, tells readers of his blog this weekend that he is "compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message" about his prediction. The cult of Kennedy - by Matt Sanchez

Living in New York City can really warp the way you see the rest of the country. Only on the tiny island of Manhattan is the idea of giving a senatorial seat to a woman because of her family name considered to be a brilliant political move, but that is the case of one of New York's favorite philanthropists Caroline Kennedy.
