They share it with countless other political leftists – those who can be described, variously, as "liberals" (a euphemism that belies the word's roots and traditional meanings), as "progressives" (another euphemism that confuses or mislabels as progress what is merely invasive government control), often as "Democrats" and perhaps most accurately as "socialists." They use the technology of popular culture mass-media – television and, increasingly, streaming/real-time or downloaded video and audio available online, which forms an increasing portion of Americans' entertainment and news consumption – to tell us, over and over again, what we should think because they think it. This is a fundamental expression of insecurity. It is the need for validation, and it forms the backbone of all left-wing sociopolitical thought. Never was this need for validation, this intolerance for disagreement, on more public display than since the election of our president. Previously in Technocracy, we discussed the disturbing prevalence of President Barack Hussein Obama on the nation's television screens. Not content merely to win the election and to govern, Obama seemed, particularly in the first months of his presidency, to be obsessed with inflicting his clucking, stuttering visage on us in every conceivable venue, shrewdly using and then not so wisely overusing the power of technology to pervade American popular culture. There was no issue too big or too small for Obama not to address it in a nationally televised monologue; there was no contentious or unpopular piece of totalitarian legislation about which Obama would not take to the airwaves to demand we support; there was no citizen who dared to disagree with Glorious Leader Obama who could not expect to be addressed, directly or indirectly, in some brittle, plaintive speech decrying certain intractable Americans' stubbornness in failing to be persuaded by Obama's brilliant socio-political insight. When he wasn't asking, through his minions, that those guilty of the through-crime of disbelief in his agenda be reported to his fascist brownshirts, he was hectoring us to grant him sanction, and quickly, to nationalize vast swaths of our economy – or else. On a smaller but no less national scale, Americans were treated this past week to the spectacle of "glam rocker" Adam Lambert – a rising pop star thanks to exposure on "American Idol" (you may remember his psychedelic rendition of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire") – availing himself of consumer entertainment technology to remind the world that he is gay. Lambert's overtly sexual performance at the American Music Awards prompted 1,500 complaints. Lambert refused to apologize, and doubtless he believes he did nothing inappropriate. The immediate response from the scions of political correctness, meanwhile, was that any outrage evoked by these televised homosexual antics was indicative of a heterosexual double standard. Yet those who speak so ardently of "tolerance" were quick to destroy Carrie Prejean for daring to express honestly, when asked to do so, that she did not approve of legalizing gay marriage. I am a libertarian who has no problem with gay rights or the notion of gay marriage – and yet I will be accused of anti-gay bigotry for daring to bring up the facts in this paragraph. Have you ever faced a situation where your response could either cost you your worldly dreams or dishonor your fundamental core beliefs? Have you ever had to choose between honoring God or conforming to the world? I haven't had much to say about Carrie Prejean's "moment of truth" at the Miss USA pageant. But recently I heard her explain her experience in that contest – and it made an impression on me. The first time I saw her respond to the question that caused so much controversy, I was, shall we say, less than impressed. I thought she waffled. She started out on one track, attempting, it seemed to me, to split the difference on the issue of same-sex marriage. "Speechless: Silencing the Christians," by Don Wildmon, lays out determined strategy of coalition of liberal secularists, homosexual activists and Fortune 500 companies Perez Hilton: "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?" Prejean: "Well, I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And, you know what, in my country and in my family I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised, and that's how I think it should be – between a man and a woman." Within minutes of that show being aired, I was literally inundated with e-mails from people who saw it and were proclaiming Miss California a hero. I watched it a few times and couldn't see what they were seeing. To me it sounded like she was trying to have it both ways. However, the reaction to her statement was strong – on both sides of the issue. In fact, that is a gross understatement. Carrie Prejean was virtually crucified for her expressing a preference for traditional marriage. She was insulted, vilified, and her politically incorrect answer cost her the crown. She was later stripped of her Miss California crown, too, by people who have no business running a beauty pageant – just as the homosexual activist blogger who asked the question had no business being a judge. Publicist Roger Neal said the beauty queen refused to work with the pageant to attend scheduled events, so they kicked her out. But Prejean's attorney, Charles Limandri, sees it another way. In an interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, he said the head of the Miss California USA pageant is an open homosexual who does not approve of Prejean's opposition to same-sex marriage – and that is the real reason he terminated her contract. "He's a militant gay activist who did a movie promoting same-sex marriage," Limandri said. "This issue is very near and dear to his heart." O'Reilly asked, "Is he gay?" Don't believe today's anti-God, deceptive media. Find out what God REALLY says about sex and homosexuality in the best-selling book that champions the absolute truth of Scripture: "Shocked by the Bible: The Most Astonishing Facts You've Never Been Told" – autographed! Limandri responded, "He's an openly gay man who did actually produce a movie in support of same-sex marriage. Since you're asking me, I am telling you: He's an ideologue, and he's not going to tolerate someone with that viewpoint wearing a crown and sash. That's what you see happening here." Lewis, the man who fired Prejean, openly admitted to being homosexual in a May 1 interview with Reuters. He is executive producer of a same-sex marriage movie titled "For the Bible Tells Me So." In the film, producers attempt to discredit biblical teachings concerning homosexuality. The 2007 movie introduces its viewers to five self-professed "Christian" families, each with a homosexual child. "Can the love between two people ever be an abomination?" the film synopsis asks. "Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate?" That is what I'm thinking. The firing of Carrie Prejean as "Miss California" was totally unjustified and uncalled for. Yes, there were "trumped" up accusations, and a certain segment of society, a small minority, was able to overpower Donald Trump. At least, to me, that is how it appears.

While many in Hollywood ridicule her, scores of Americans are now applauding Miss California's stance against same-sex marriage – including one Alabama lawmaker who drafted a resolution supporting her. At Sunday night's Miss USA pageant, Carrie Prejean was asked the one question she dreaded most, and her answer brought her both scorn and praise. From the article:

But while many Hollywood actresses stand by Hilton and condemn the beauty queen for her beliefs, one lawmaker is has drafted a resolution in support of the courageous contestant. State Rep. Jay Love, R-Montgomery, told the Montgomery Advertiser that there are those "telling people what they can believe and what they can say," which he believes is wrong. He said Prejean is being ridiculed and punished for refusing to support a lifestyle that goes against her beliefs. "I don't believe that's right," Love said. He said he applauds her for not compromising her beliefs by giving a politically correct answer. The bill was introduced Tuesday and every member of the House Republican Caucus and some Democrats have signed on as co-sponsors. However, State Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, said the resolution cannot pass because he claims Miss California is associated with right-wing organizations and supports discrimination.
