I can't remember how many times during my medical career I was told, "You can't do that; no one has done that before" or "Do you think all the incredibly bright people who have preceded you didn't think of that?" Certainly, if I had listened to those comments instead of critically analyzing the problems and using the triumphs and mistakes of others to produce innovative solutions, my career path would have been considerably different.
We have these magnificent brains with outstanding reasoning ability in order to be creative and to critically analyze what we hear and see. We must stop acting like pawns and start acting like masters of our own destiny. ~~ Dr. Ben Carson
This is where I introduce Dr. Benjamin Carson to this blog. I became aware of him early last year. In 1984, he was named director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children¹s Center, a position he retired from on June 30, 2013. Released early in 2012, Dr. Carson's fifth book, "America The Beautiful," made The New York Times best-seller list. Dr. Carson has made frequent appearances on Fox News. I've included a very recent segment where he was talking with Neil Cavuto about problems with ObamaCare:
When you see the video above, and read the column, I'm sure that you'll easily understand why I need to include Dr. Carson and his wisdom in this blog. We can not afford to remain pawns, but we will if we remain too complacent to take any action. This country needs people like Dr. Ben Carson to lead by example. It's time for us to quit being pawns, because it isn't just a game of chess we're talking about here. It's our freedom.
Learn to Challenge the Status Quo

In the game of chess, pawns are just used for the purposes of the royal pieces. In real life, many in power selfishly use "pawns" — average citizens — while at the same time vociferously proclaiming that they are the only ones looking out for the interests of the pawns, who happily follow their commands, thinking that this "royal" contingent has their interests in mind.
However, in a chess game, a pawn can become any one of the royal pieces, if it can make it to the other side of the board. The opponent will do almost anything to keep one from reaching its goal, because that would interfere with the power structure. If they can keep the pawns on their side of the board, where it is much safer, the status quo can be maintained.
Although no analogy is perfect, it is pretty easy to see the point here. By keeping large groups of Americans complacent and afraid of challenging authority, the position, wealth, and status of those in power is secure. The last thing they want is for independent-thinking citizens to realize that this country was designed for them and not for an arrogant ruling class. They dread the possibility of people scrutinizing their words and deeds, and holding them accountable for the same.
By using strong-arm tactics and a sheepishly compliant news media, the supposed guardians of truth, they have become very successful at pawn control.

On the Sept. 14 edition of Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor," host Bill O'Reilly queried former President Bush adviser Karl Rove as to whether he thought President Barack Obama is simply a garden variety far-left guy trying to get his agenda across, or actually committed to supplanting our current form of government and economic system with different and quite alien ones.
Mr. Rove equivocated; I don't know whether he is of the opinion that leveling such a harsh charge (as the latter) would be unseemly, or he simply didn't want to risk being that wrong. Neither am I aware of what Rove or O'Reilly actually believes, but my opinion has been made quite clear.
Last week, video footage began to surface in the alternative press produced by filmmaker James O'Keefe, 25, and his partner Hannah Giles, a 20-year-old student. Through undercover work, they were able to very effectively implicate the Association of Community
Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) in providing counseling to Giles and O'Keefe (who were posing as a prostitute and her pimp, respectively) that amounted to criminal conspiracy. In the past, ACORN employees have been involved in (and, in more than two dozen cases, convicted of) voter fraud; typically, the group has claimed that these exceptional and infrequent crimes were committed by "rogue" employees.
The organization also has deep and long-standing ties to President Obama, who brought them on board in various advisory and administrative capacities when he took office. He formerly provided them with legal representation, taught classes for them, and they endorsed his 2008 presidential campaign. This, of course, gives rise to the question of how much ACORN learned from Obama, given that he instructed their operatives.
While public outrage over the deeds of the taxpayer-funded ACORN is apparent, and the Senate voted on Sept. 15 to cut off federal funding to the group, the establishment press has essentially ignored one of the largest and most widespread instances of corruption tied to government in history. I'm trying to get to the next installment of my Pulitzer Prize-deserving series on liberal lies about national health care, but apparently liberals have decided to torture us by neurotically fixating on one lie.
After President Barack Obama gave a speech to a joint session of Congress last week passionately defending his national health-care plan, the Democrats were agog at the brilliance of the speech. Nancy Pelosi was so thrilled, her expression almost changed.
But as Obama ticked off one demonstrably false claim after another – eliciting 37 standing ovations from the Democrats in the audience – America's greatest living statesman, Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., yelled out, "You lie!" in response to Obama's claim that the bill will not cover illegal aliens.
There are a number of theories about why America's greatest living statesman shouted "You lie!" at that juncture, but mine is that Wilson said it because Obama told a big, fat, stinking lie.
Every single American knows it's a lie. But liberals take pleasure in repeating it – and then condescendingly accusing anyone who doesn't accept their lie of being a toothless, illiterate racist.
Our politicians, media and courts have done everything they can to encourage illegal immigration, including obstinately refusing to enforce the border. While illegals streaming across the border generally aren't prosecuted, U.S. border patrol agents who naively try to guard the border often are.
Wise (and pregnant) Latinas dash across the border just in time to give birth at American hospitals – medical services paid for by U.S. taxpayers – gaining instant citizenship for their children, thereby entitling them to the entire Chinese menu of American welfare programs. Flying under the radar last week was a new government report that forecasts that the national debt will double over the next decade. The White House has projected a cumulative $9 trillion deficit between 2010 and 2019, while the Congressional Budget Office estimates a more optimistic $7.1 trillion based upon the expiration of Bush tax cuts. What this means is that Washington's out-of-control spending will likely turn the nation's already-staggering $11 trillion debt into an astronomical $20 trillion.
But there are at least two ginormous expenses that are excluded in these projections. First, both projections from the White House and CBO incorporate their belief that the deficit will decline quickly over the next three years, as they assume less bailouts are needed and the economy rapidly grows. But isn't there also the real possibility that the economy will not recover as quickly as they hope? Every additional bailout or stimulus (large or small), and every margin of error in their three-year prospective climb-out of the economic pit, will inflate our nation's debt balloon even more.
The second expense is far less speculative – and it has to do with about one-fourth of America. The 72 million baby boomers (people born in America from 1946 to 1964, excluding immigrants), the largest generation America has produced, are going into retirement over the next two decades and will face the golden years of declining health and rising medical costs. Under current law, if the government were to add the projected baby boomer costs of Medicare and Social Security to its debt tab, it would send deficit projections into the abyss.
Here's the primary problem: Medicare is bankrupt. Medicaid is bankrupt. And Social Security is bankrupt. Though boomers have paid into these programs via their taxes for decades, there are not enough benefits to offer them, now and even less in the future. The problem is compounded when one understands that the number of people in the United States ages 65 and older is expected to double by 2030, and so is the amount expected to fund their retirement and health care in their twilight years, which relatively few are prepared to handle themselves.
So what is the U.S. government to do, especially when it is already projected to have a $20 trillion dollar debt in 2019 (let alone what it will be in 2030)? [CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING ENTIRE COLUMN]

With the Democrats getting slaughtered – or should I say, "receiving mandatory end-of-life counseling" – in the debate over national health care, the Obama administration has decided to change the subject by indicting CIA interrogators for talking tough to three of the world's leading Muslim terrorists.
Had I been asked, I would have advised them against reinforcing the idea that Democrats are hysterical bed-wetters who can't be trusted with national defense while also reminding people of the one thing everyone still admires about President George W. Bush.
But I guess the Democrats really want to change the subject. Thus, here is Part 2 in our series of liberal lies about national health care.
6) There will be no rationing under national health care.
Anyone who says that is a liar. And all Democrats are saying it. (Hey, look – I have two-thirds of a syllogism!) [READ ENTIRE COLUMN]
And here is another great one that my friend Jym Wells (_Jym on twitter.com) had on his blog, In God We'll Trust, that I was alerted to this morning:
OBAMACARE
Written by Dr. Dave Janda
I was given the opportunity to be the keynote speaker at a Congressional Dinner at The Capitol Building in Washington last Friday (7/17). The presentation was entitled Health Care Reform, The Power & Profit of Prevention, and I was gratified that it was well received.
In preparation for the presentation, I read the latest version of “reform” as authored by The Obama Administration and supported by Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid. Here is the link to the 1,018 page document: Click Here
Let me summarize just a few salient points of the above plan. First, however, it should be clear that the same warning notice must be placed on The ObamaCare Plan as on a pack of cigarettes: Consuming this product will be hazardous to your health. [READ ENTIRE COLUMN]

Last week was a big week for the health-care-insurance-coverage reform debate-dispute-skirmish-thing ...
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, at a "town hall" meeting held by President Obama at which America's Affordable Health Choice Act of 2009 was discussed, a wee wisp of a lass reported to the president that she had seen signs outside prior to the gathering, saying "mean things" about health care reform. As it was later revealed, the girl's mother had been a coordinator for "Massachusetts Women for Obama" during the 2008 campaign.
On the same day at a town hall meeting held in Texas, a former Texas Obama delegate and member of one of the president's political organizations falsely represented herself as a pediatric physician as she made an appeal for the current proposed health care reform legislation. [READ ENTIRE COLUMN]
