Because the Democrats really don't have a game plan to "fix" the economy, they are worried about the mid-term in 2010 and election in 2012. They raised expectations so high in the 2008 election, that now they are painted into a corner. They will have to blame Republicans for everything for the next 4 yrs, and also get Republicans to compromise.
