Apocalypse Rising, the Cult of 2012

From Crazy Uncle in the Attic I ran across this article on Yahoo and it reminded me that the next conspiracy laden paranoid love fest of the gloom and doom crowd is just a few short years away. There's even an "official" website with a countdown clock to the Apocalypse, news pertaining to 2012 and all kinds of articles with which to fuel the fires of impending doom. So as the date gets closer expect to find rabid believers all around the net spreading the gospel of 2012 end time prophecy to deflect from the real problems facing the nation and the world. FOX News on the coming events of 2012
In support of those "capitalizing" on the "2012 cult", I wrote the following comment at digg:
But.... but..... .but, well, there is this thing; it's capitalism in action! I mean, now that there are no manufacturing jobs, and it will be at least two years before the Obama economic stimulus could even work, people need jobs. Making money, we have to feed the kids, there's a cottage industry in writing about doom and gloom and conspiracy theories. Just maybe, we shouldn't be so critical of these things, because then we are then stabbing Capitalism right in the back. And then, there is the various ministries. Well, with income in this country way down, charities and various Christian ministries are suffering from the lack of donations. So, what do they do? There's Jack Van Impe, who announced just last night that there is now a DVD available about 2012 that they can send to you. (This could be a youtube video coming soon.) So, really, should we be attacking the doom and gloomers about this new theme? I mean, if they can make some money on the 2012 apocalypse, why should we object? It's an economic stimulus package of it's own. We should be happy about that, it won't take our tax dollars. Let's just keep that in mind. It is up to you to decide if I'm just being sarcastic, or if I've brought up a valid point to consider. You can take it either way. Thank you, oldguy53, for bringing this to our attention. You may have done a big favor to those that want to make a buck on the 12-21-2012 scare. That may not have been a bad thing.
