Obama, the cellophane man ~ By Burt Prelutsky

Burt writes about Obama's transparency, you know, like the kind of transparency where you can see right through egotists like Barack Hussein Obama. I think the only thing that may blur the transparency is all of Obama's narcissism that is mixed in. Just sayin'...
It's at times like these that I wish America had followed Britain's example to a greater extent. If Obama, Pelosi and Reid, were forced to call for a vote of confidence, I can guarantee they'd have a lot more time to devote to their kids, their grandkids and their various hobbies.

For a long time, I was a member of the chorus that faulted Barack Obama for not carrying through with his campaign pledge of transparency. But now that he's been in the Oval Office for well over a year, I realize how wrong I was. I actually owe the man an apology. He is the most transparent president we have ever had, and by now even a blind man can see through him.

Furthermore, even those people who disagreed with his politics but regarded him as a good guy must have surely had second thoughts when, during the health-care summit, Obama turned to John McCain and curtly reminded him that the election was over. Talk about your sore winners! Being the sort of imp I am, if I had been Sen. McCain, I might have asked the president if he was referring to the one that recently took place in Massachusetts.

Speaking of the health-care summit, the highlight of the seven-hour snooze-fest for me was when Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., shared the anecdote about the woman who wound up wearing her dead sister's dentures. My initial reaction was to wonder why a liberal would object to the practice; after all, they've made recycling a major tenet of their religion. My second reaction was the realization that Henry Waxman, D-the Moon, might be a terrible congressman, but he's a first-rate straight man. I was watching Waxman, who was sitting next to Slaughter, and when she related her tale of woe, he not only didn't begin to cackle the way I did, he didn't even crack a smile. But I guess after sitting in Congress for 40 years, you stop reacting to idiocy.

It's almost as if Obama and Tiger Woods have been competing to see which of them can lose the greatest amount of goodwill in the shortest amount of time. There is, of course, a major difference between the two look-alikes. Tiger's precipitous plummet in popularity affects only his fortunes and those of his sponsors and agents. Obama, on the other hand, has wasted his political capital as recklessly as he's wasted America's financial capital, thus bringing the entire nation to the brink of bankruptcy.

Drew Brees and The Saints! ~ By John Kubicek

By John Kubicek

Okay, I should be a Colts fan, and I am, just for great people on the team that played at Iowa, like for example, Dallas Clark and Bobby Sanders.

And of course, I was pulling for the Cardinals, with Kurt Warner, a native from my home town, who was raised in the area very near to my home.

But now, I am pulling for the Saints! Lots of reasons for that. Thirteen years ago yesterday (Feb 1) I was married to my wife, God rest her soul. She was my soul-mate. Well, the first destination we headed for on our honeymoon was New Orleans. We had such a great time there. It was 80 degrees the day we arrived there, on Feb. 3. There are some great stories I could tell you about that part of our trip, like how we came close to being robbed, and how about a dozen New Orleans cops stepped in and arrested the perp as it was in the process of going down… But I digress.

So, great memories are coming forth as I think about that day.

Until now, I wasn’t all that aware of just who are the “Saints”. I wasn’t aware, either, of who Drew Brees was. After what I saw, though, I know now, he is one of “us”.

As you know, many sports figures seem to make their way into the news, usually via the front page, by being villains. There was OJ… Michael Vick…. And now, Tiger. The newspapers love those kind of stories that make the front page, as long as they are negative enough.

But there is another side of the coin you may not hear about very often. The newspapers WON’T tell you about all the good things that some athletes do.

Dems Feeling Heat Over Kennedy Seat ~ By Jonah Goldberg

From National Review Online (NRO Weekend)
The Democrats’ “bad climate” is a direct result of how they’ve governed.
Coakley is a creature of this climate. She hasn’t been running for “Ted Kennedy’s seat,” she’s been strolling to it like someone who knows it’s been reserved for her and all she needs to do is swing by the will-call window to pick it up.
By Jonah Goldberg, NRO Editor-at-Large January 15, 2010 12:00 AM In August, Ted Kennedy, the Lion of the Senate, the last son of Camelot, the soul of the Democratic party, friend of the people and scourge of robber barons, fat cats, and special interests, departed this mortal coil. Now, that’s not really my opinion of the man. But if you were inclined to imbue Tom Brokaw with pontifical authority or view the world through the prism of the New York Times, or its Mini-Me the Boston Globe, that’s how you’d see Teddy. So it should be of more than passing interest that “Ted Kennedy’s seat” in the Senate may go to Republican Scott Brown next week. And not just any Republican, but an actual conservative, as opposed to some me-too Republican who promises to drive in the same direction as liberals. Not long ago, Brown was down 30 points to Massachusetts attorney general Martha Coakley. Now it’s neck and neck, according to many polls. Brown is still the underdog, but the fact that it is even close is in itself hugely significant. It’s a bit like Tibet holding its own against China in a land war, or Abe Vigoda giving Tiger Woods a run for his money at Augusta (or, for that matter, at a Vegas nightclub). Even more astounding, Brown is running directly against what everyone agrees was Ted Kennedy’s signature issue and legacy: health-care reform. Massachusetts is the most famously Democratic state in the union. Barack Obama’s presidency and the Democratic congressional majority are invested in health-care reform like a Bernie Madoff victim, and Brown is surging by running as the monkey wrench for the whole thing. This is like a Democrat successfully running in Texas on tax hikes, gay marriage, and funding the Pentagon solely through bake sales. The Democratic party is panicking like brothel patrons with the cops at the door. They’re dropping shock troops of muckety-mucks, hacks, spinners, and door-knockers into Boston like Rangers into Normandy. Meanwhile, the liberal press establishment is in near-total denial. Yes, the race is getting a lot of attention, but Coakley’s problems are being chalked up to the fact that she is a bad campaigner and this is a bad “climate” for the Democrats. READ FULL STORY >
When asked if her campaign style is too aloof, she snapped back: “As opposed to standing outside Fenway Park [the way Scott Brown does]? In the cold? Shaking hands?”

Harry Reid's Negro problem ~ By Ann Coulter

Commentary from WorldNetDaily
Ann Coulter By Ann Coulter Posted: January 13, 2010 ~ 5:58 pm Eastern © 2010 The recently released book "Game Change" reports that Sen. Harry Reid said America would vote for Barack Obama because he was a "light-skinned" African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." The book also says Bill Clinton called Sen. Ted Kennedy to ask for his endorsement of Hillary over Obama, saying of Obama: "A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee." And we already knew that Obama's own vice president, Joe Biden, called Obama "articulate" and "clean" during the campaign. (So you can see why Biden got the vice presidential nod over Reid.) Democrats regularly say things that would end the career of any conservative who said them. And still, blacks give 90 percent of their votes to the Democrats. Reid apologized to President Obama, and Obama accepted the apology using his "white voice." So now all is forgiven. Clinton also called Obama to apologize, but ended up asking him to bring everybody some coffee. Now the only people waiting for an apology are the American people who want an apology from Nevada for giving us Harry Reid. READ FULL STORY >

If you can find a better deal, take it! ~ By Ann Coulter

Commentary from WorldNetDaily
Ann Coulter By Ann Coulter Posted: January 06, 2010 ~ 6:11 pm Eastern © 2010 Someone mentioned Christianity on television recently, and liberals reacted with their usual howls of rage and blinking incomprehension. On a Fox News panel discussing Tiger Woods, Brit Hume said, perfectly accurately: "The extent to which he can recover, it seems to me, depends on his faith. He is said to be a Buddhist. I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. So, my message to Tiger would be, 'Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world.'" Hume's words, being 100 percent factually correct, sent liberals into a tizzy of sputtering rage, once again illustrating liberals' copious ignorance of Christianity. (Also illustrating the words of the Bible: "How is it you do not understand me when I speak? It is because you cannot bear to listen to my words" [John 8:43].) In the Washington Post, Tom Shales demanded that Hume apologize, saying he had "dissed about half a billion Buddhists on the planet." Is Buddhism about forgiveness? Because, if so, Buddhists had better start demanding corrections from every book, magazine article and blog posting ever written on the subject, which claims Buddhists don't believe in God, but try to become their own gods. I can't imagine that anyone thinks Tiger's problem was that he didn't sufficiently think of himself as a god, especially after that final putt in the Arnold Palmer Invitational last year. In light of Shales' warning Hume about "what people are saying" about him, I hope Hume's a Christian, but that's not apparent from his inarguable description of Christianity. Of course, given the reaction to his remarks, apparently one has to be a regular New Testament scholar to have so much as a passing familiarity with the basic concept of Christianity. On MSNBC, David Shuster invoked the "separation of church and television" (a phrase that also doesn't appear in the Constitution), bitterly complaining that Hume had brought up Christianity "out-of-the-blue" on "a political talk show." Why on earth would Hume mention religion while discussing a public figure who had fallen from grace and was in need of redemption and forgiveness? Boy, talk about coming out of left field! Why the Grinch won't steal our Christmas ~ By Patrice Lewis

Commentary from WorldNetDaily
Patrice Lewis By Patrice Lewis Posted: December 26, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 Recently I had an interesting e-mail exchange with a favorite long-time reader. On my blog entry for Thanksgiving he saw a photo of our dinner table and guest. He wrote: "Your Thanksgiving dinner and your home both look impossibly warm, cozy and homey." Ha ha, fooled him. Our house, cozy? Silly man. I wrote back, "LOL – our home is a fixer-upper with half the walls stripped, unpainted or missing. If you look closely at the panel behind our friend's head, you'll notice it's actually not there. What's showing is pink insulation. One of these days we'll fix it up. ..." He wrote back a scolding note: "Sheetrock doesn't make a home." He related the story of a wayward child who had caused him much heartbreak through her bad choices, but who had straightened out her life and returned to the fold, to his great joy. "Trust me, Patrice," he concluded. "That beats the hell out of sheetrock any day." He's right, of course. Absolutely positively dead-on right. I needed the kick-in-the-pants reminder. You see, for a moment I'd fallen into the classic trap: That externals count more than internals. That things are more important than people. That happiness is defined by income, not relationships. That a beautiful home supersedes those who live in it. It's kind of like the Tiger Woods syndrome: You can be the richest and most successful person in the world, but if your personal relationships are shot to hell, then what good is wealth and fame? Advertisers are very clever at making us feel inadequate if we don't have the Perfect House, the Perfect Tree, the Perfect Presents and other Perfect things during Christmas. Madison Avenue shows us beautiful skinny people dressed in designer clothing surrounded by adorable and well-behaved children opening beautifully wrapped gifts under a tree laden with exquisite hand-made ornaments in homes that could be lifted from the pages of Architectural Digest. They never show people sitting around in ratty sweat clothes with toys scattered on the floor, dirty dishes in the sink and major decorating defects like decades-old avocado-green appliances or scarred walls. They never show a lopsided Christmas tree under which are inexpensive gifts wrapped in brown paper grocery bags with bows saved from last year. They never show walls with missing sheetrock or no paint. It's the job of advertisers, after all, to make us feel defective, because only then can they convince us our defects will be cured by buying their product. As soon as our living environment achieves the shimmer and sophistication of the images they project, then we'll be … Perfect. What no advertiser can admit, though, is without a peaceful relationship with family, friends and our Maker, no amount of "perfect" will ever cut the mustard. Just ask Tiger if you don't believe me. What's it take to win the Heisman?

From WorldNetDaily (SportsNetDaily section)
Trophy winner, coach tell WND secret to running back's success Posted: December 13, 2009 ~ 8:12 pm Eastern By Stewart Stogel © 2009 WorldNetDaily NEW YORK – For a brief moment this weekend, the sporting world took a time out from its constant coverage of Tiger Woods' ever expanding scandal to report on a traditional "feel good" story, the Heisman Trophy. Just hours after Woods announced his "indefinite suspension" from professional golf, the 75th Heisman Trophy was awarded to Alabama running back Mark Ingram in the closest voting in the award's history. The contrast and the connection between the two was compelling. Woods, who has admitted to numerous incidents of infidelity, insisted that his immediate goal during his golfing hiatus is to concentrate on rebuilding his ties with his family. Family ties was a theme repeatedly expressed at the Heisman award ceremony last night. Ingram, who rose to be named college football's No. 1 player for 2009, insisted that his family ties were the main factor for his meteoric season, a campaign that will see his Alabama Crimson Tide play Texas for the national championship in Pasadena, Calif., on Jan. 7. "First and foremost, I would like to thank God. I'm so blessed, and without him, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish this," Ingram said in his acceptance speech. "I'd like to thank my family, my mother and my grandparents ... my father, who has been a great influence on my life and I love him to death, my aunts and uncles, my sisters … and I'd like to thank my teammates." Ingram's acceptance speech can be seen below: READ FULL STORY >

A time of universal deceit ~ By Star Parker

Commentary from WorldNetDaily
Star Parker By Star Parker Posted: December 12, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 Americans, not surprisingly, are feeling cynical. Gallup's just-released Honesty and Ethics of Professions poll shows that for the first time, most – 55 percent – rate members of Congress low/very low for honesty and ethics. Senators come in slightly better at 49 percent. A whopping 9 percent of members of Congress and 11 percent of senators get high/very high ratings in honesty and ethics. Even members of the clergy do not escape this cynical cloud hanging over the nation. Although 50 percent rate the clergy as high/very high in honesty and ethics, this is the lowest since Gallup starting reporting it. This prevailing mood of distrust is understandable given how commonplace it has become for so many in public life to lie to us. A mountain of hacked e-mails shows that scientists who held the public trust regarding information on climate change research were liars. The e-mails show they selectively expunged data and suppressed research not supporting the conclusions they wanted showing manmade global warming. Congress is frenetically trying to pass major health-care reform that report after report show is filled with politically manipulated data and conclusions. And now we learn that even Tiger Woods has been lying to us about who he is. What is so troubling is that all this is not about human error or fallibility. It's the opposite. It's about individuals intentionally manipulating information to deceive the public in order to advance their own personal agendas. READ FULL STORY >
