It finally happened! The Mexican Federales dropped their charges, and  Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi was released. It was exciting when I heard the news last night.  This was a good day for all involved in trying to help get him released, including his mother Jill Tahmooressi, Montel Williams, Greta Van Susteren, and a few Congressmen. The Obama administration, namely the President and the State Department, were largely absent in the effort. Well, go figure.

A week ago, the lame-duck U.S. Senate refused to pass the so-called DREAM Act, which had been passed by the House in its lame-duck session. There will be some talk of reviving the bill in the next Congress, but the ground has shifted. The next immigration reform debate will be about Mexico.

The truth is beginning to dawn on amnesty proponents. We cannot have a rational debate about immigration reform in the U.S. until there is emigration reform in Mexico.

Last month I participated in a debate in Denver with Gustavo Arellano, the leftist southern California journalist and author of the "Ask a Mexican" column which runs in a dozen or more left-leaning "alternative weeklies" across the country. The topic of the debate – never formally declared – had something to do with the success – or lack of it – of assimilation into American society by illegal aliens from Mexico and Latin America.

Whatever the hopes of the sponsors of the event, the debate turned out to be a long conversation not about politics or pending legislation but about culture – American culture. In retrospect, I wish we had also scheduled a second debate – about Mexican culture.

Given that 70 percent of the 15-20 million illegal aliens in our country are from Mexico, and the fact that Mexico officially encourages and facilitates this exodus, it is natural for Americans to have many questions about Mexico.

I think these questions should be encouraged, and I hope the defenders of illegal immigration can provide some answers.

Acting quietly, below the radar of U.S. public opinion and without congressional approval, the Obama administration is implementing a key policy objective of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP, to erase the border with Mexico and Canada.

The administration is acting under a State Department-declared policy initiative described in a March 23 fact sheet titled "United States-Mexico Partnership: A New Border Vision."

"Mexico and the United States have a shared interest in creating a 21st century border that promotes the security and prosperity of both countries," the State Department declared. "The U.S. and Mexican governments have launched a range of initiatives that challenge the traditional view of 'hold the line' and are developing a framework for a new vision of 21st century border management."

At the same time, CTV News in Canada has obtained a draft copy of a declaration between the U.S. and Canada entitled "Beyond the Border: A Shared Vision for Perimeter Security and Competitiveness," to be implemented by a newly created Canadian-U.S. "Beyond the Border Working Group."

The two documents strongly suggest the Obama administration is pursuing a stealth bureaucratic methodology to establish a common North American border around the continent, encompassing the U.S., Canada and Mexico, while simultaneously moving to erase the borders between the U.S. and Mexico as well as between the U.S. and Canada.

Under the Bush administration's SPP, the U.S., Mexico and Canada organized some 20 different "shadow government" bureaucratic working groups composed of agency heads and undersecretaries in the three nations. The groups span a wide range of policy areas, from e-commerce, to aviation policy, to borders and immigration, trilateral travel, transportation, energy, environment, food and agriculture, health and financial services.

Felipe Calderon's blatant hypocrisy ~ By Pat Boone

Calderon and Mexico are experiencing their own brand of "tea party," the grass-roots population-wide revolt against their government and oppression and corruption. But, instead of our Constitution-based, peaceful and electoral tea party, theirs is a veritable witches' brew of crime, violence, drug traffic – and the wholesale illegal departure of 15 million of their citizens desperate to escape to something better.

Mr. Calderon, go back to your own country and keep trying to clean up your own house. We Americans are about to clean up ours at the polls. Our tea party is "We the People."

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has been making a big splash here lately. I'm wondering if our authorities checked his credentials when he entered the country. Probably not … racial profiling and all that, you know.

But the major news channels all dutifully trumpeted and broadcast his address to Congress, in which he lectured America on how we should conduct our immigration policy. After complimenting us on our history and standing in the world, he stated emphatically his disapproval of Arizona's recent announcement that the state will more strictly enforce our immigration laws. He paraphrased President Obama's earlier remarks about the Arizona stance not being reflective of America's moral code and ethical standards.

You may have seen the reaction on TV: Speaker Pelosi jumped to her feet and applauded wildly, at which the whole left side of the hall (the Democratic side) also stood and applauded, while the whole right side (the Republican side, of course) sat stolid and non-approving – much the same reaction as that of our Supreme Court justices when Obama chided them in front of the world for a decision he disagreed with.

Even without any approval or support from the right side of Congress, I'm sure both presidents were gratified by their mutual support of each other and Calderon's lecturing statements, which would immediately and repeatedly be spread abroad by the obedient media.

But amazingly, the Mexican president, after a congratulatory visit to the White House, granted one in-person TV interview, with Wolf Blitzer of CNN.

He probably deeply regrets doing that now.

To his great credit, Blitzer really pinned Calderon down on his own country's immigration policies and enforcement of its laws. Blitzer had actually read Mexico's laws – which have been, and are, far tougher on illegals entering their country than America's are on illegals here!

They've never been a secret. Surely you, like I, have read the horror stories about Americans stranded in Mexico after money and passports were lost or stolen. About the extortion by authorities, and imprisonments in notorious Mexican jails and, in the last several years, the disappearance and murders of visitors by rampant criminal gangs.

I remember several fact-based TV movies about tourists being extricated from prisons in Mexico, once by a heroic helicopter rescue. Even our government has advised against "spring break" visits to Mexico by exuberant American college students – because of real dangers caused by rampant lawlessness, corruption, drug cartels and renegade gangs, armed to the teeth and threatening even to Mexican law enforcement.

But it's being more widely revealed and known now: MEXICO'S IMMIGRATION LAWS ARE MUCH, MUCH TOUGHER ON ILLEGALS THAN AMERICA'S. (emphasis my own) And in his interview with Blitzer, Calderon – stammering at times, looking for the right words – had to admit it.

What are some of the provisions of Mexican immigration law?

• Immigrants must speak Mexico's language.
• No bilingual programs in schools, no special ballots for elections, all government business must be conducted in Spanish.
• Foreigners will never be able to hold political office.
• Foreigners will not have the right to vote no matter how long they're in Mexico; Article 33 states, "Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country."
• Mexican authorities are ordered to keep track of every single person in the country.
• Foreigners will not be a burden to taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care or other government assistance programs.
• Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be imprisoned.
• Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as felons.
• A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison.

Basically, and undeniably, under Mexican law, illegal immigration is (a crime). The General Law of Population says: "A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally." (Article 123)

Lambs to the slaughter, Part 1 ~ By Chuck Norris

Trust me that what sounds like a tool being used against terrorism or illegal arm trade will actually further restrict American's right to bear arms. Under the disguise of an effort to combat drug violence, the passage of CIFTA's or its equal will further clamp down upon our Second Amendment freedoms.

Again, as Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, summarized in the American Rifleman (February 2010): "The administration is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international trade between nations, but there's no doubt … that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control."

Right now, Washington is scheming and scamming to erode then erase the Second Amendment from our Constitution. And it will accomplish it through the signing of international treaties on gun control, bypassing the normal legislative process in Congress, tightening regulations upon firearm and ammunition manufacturers, using the anti-gun financing of tycoons and ultimately confiscating all firearms under the guise of terrorism patrol and enforcement. Without public debate and cloaked in secrecy, gun control will covertly come upon us like a thief in the night. One day, we will wake up to discover that the U.S. has signed a global treaty that will prohibit any transfer of firearm ownership, force reductions in the number of firearms privately owned and eventually eradicate the planet of guns for law-abiding citizens. Of course, the criminals will still illegally have their guns. And on that day, if you do not comply with that global treaty, you will be fined and face imprisonment. This is not a fictitious story or false warning. As sure as government health care has been shoved down our throats, so will the barrels of our guns. And left with little defense, we will go as lambs to the slaughter.

I believe the political stars are aligning right now for just such a "perfect storm" of domestic disarmament: via the election and work of an anti-gun president, the disarmament passions of the Washington elites and the United Nations, the appointments of gun prohibitionists from the White House to the Supreme Court, and the funding of an anti-Second Amendment movement by billionaire progressives like George Soros.

This is Part One of three articles in which I'll be addressing the evidence – the smoking gun, if you will – of the pressing threat to the Second Amendment and our firearm freedoms.

As Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, wrote in the American Rifleman (February 2010): "President Obama's political mantra of 'hope and change' has morphed into a very real threat. Obama's deep curtsy to international arms control has given 'hope' to the international gun-ban crowd that they will prevail."

It was no surprise when Obama was elected that the nation was consumed with other domestic issues and had selected a president with one of the most anti-firearm records in American history. During his presidential campaign, the National Rifle Association, or NRA, outlined more than two dozen ways that Obama has fought against America's Second Amendment firearm freedoms over the years. So much so, that the NRA graded Obama's (and Hillary Clinton's) voting records among other presidential candidates as an "F." (Does that give any freedom-loving firearm bearer any hope now that both are now part of the same administration?) No wonder a Gallup poll in October 2009 revealed that 41 percent of all Americans and 52 percent of gun owners believe that Obama will try eventually to ban the sale of guns.

Howard Phillips, chairman of The Conservative Caucus and head of the Coalition to Block the North American Union, spoke to Mexican print, television and radio media about the summit, which was known in previous years as the North American Security and Prosperity Partnership, or SPP. "They're talking more and more about economic integration, which is also what preceded the creation of the European Union, incrementally," Phllips told WND. "We made the point that one of the real issues is accountability. Already there are more than 20 SPP working groups and more and more decisions are being turned over to unelected bureaucrats, without any review by the legislatures of Mexico, Canada or the U.S." Phillips also released statements from current U.S. Rep. Walter Jones Jr., R-N.C., and former congressmen Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., and Virgil H. Goode Jr, R-Va., warning Obama that this meeting of the American, Mexican and Canadian heads of state is no time to renew talks of a North American Union. "My eastern North Carolina constituents are troubled by our exploding trade deficit, our weakly defended borders and the erosion of our national sovereignty," Rep. Jones said in a statement prepared for the press conference. "As a result, many of them have expressed their concerns about our nation's leadership role in the SPP." "Many SPP working group meetings are held in secret, and the public, the press and members of Congress have no opportunity to participate or conduct oversight," Jones said. "The SPP also appears to cast aside America's sovereignty and takes another step towards combining the United States, Mexico and Canada into a single EU-style North American super state." Bush on border agents: 'I'm not talking pardons'

Mexican asylum applicants: Sign of a failed state?
