Three arrested for assaulting Cedar Rapids police ~ By Jeff Raasch

By Jeff Raasch The Gazette jeff.raasch@gazettecommunications.com Three people went to jail Sunday night, all accused of assaulting police officers. Cedar Rapids police Officers Kevin Lukan and Christopher Christy were injured while they tried to arrest a man following a disturbance call. There have been 24 assaults on officers in Cedar Rapids already this year, according to police statistics. Police responded around 10 p.m. to the 1800 block of A Avenue NE when people were reportedly fighting and yelling obscenities. A window had also been broken, police said. Officers Lukan and Christy were the first to arrive and saw Terrance D. Talley, 24, of Cedar Rapids, attempt to leave the area, so they stopped to question him. Lt. Kenneth Washburn said Talley, who had a warrant out for his arrest, became combative. He elbowed Officer Lukan in the face and punched Officer Christy in the head, according to the police report.
