AP: Arizona Rep. Giffords shot, 6 killed in rampage

A terribly tragic shooting occurred early Saturday afternoon that shook the country. It happened in Tucson, Arizona. I was looking for the story, and my google search found this one for me, where FoxNews.com had picked up this Associated Press story.

Before I tell you what I thought of this news article, I do want to pass on my condolences to all of the families that lost a loved one, or that have somebody fighting for life in the hospital. It was a horrible and senseless act of violence.

But here is what really bothered me about this story, and the way it was written. Just for starters, they spelled the name of the alleged shooter both as Jared Laugher and Jared Loughner, and one time they did that in the same paragraph:
The suspect's exact motivation was not clear, but a former classmate described Laugher as a pot-smoking loner who had rambling beliefs about the world. Federal law enforcement officials were poring over versions of a MySpace page that belonged to Jared Loughner and over a YouTube video published weeks ago...
But, if that was not bad enough - clearly the editor dropped the ball on that - the story goes on and on about vitriolic political rhetoric and violence against politicians and lawyers. It was what Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said that seemed so creepy. He was really pushing the vitriol and violence thing, and you know who he was trying to blame from this statement: "When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government." Am I out of line to guess that when he said "out of certain mouths," he was either talking about certain conservative talk radio hosts, or possibly even Sarah Palin? Or maybe he is still upset about Arizona's SB 1070, Gov. Jan Brewer's immigration legislation. Sure, Sheriff, way to spread that vitriol.

So, once again, before all the facts are in, people - or so-called journalists - are trying to blame conservative talk radio for the violent act in Tucson. However, from what we read in this column about the alleged shooter, Jared What-Ever-His-Last-Name-Is, tends to fit the profile of an anarchist:
High school classmate Grant Wiens, 22, said Loughner seemed to be "floating through life" and "doing his own thing."

"Sometimes religion was brought up or drugs. He smoked pot, I don't know how regularly. And he wasn't too keen on religion from what I could tell," Wiens said.
I'll guarantee you that as more facts come out about the gunman, there will be no doubt that he is not a Conservative Right-wing Christian. I'm just sayin'....

Here is the complete video of the statement by Sheriff Clarence Dupnik:

Furthermore, from a story on the Christian Science Monitor, we have this:
A possible link between Jared Lee Loughner, the primary suspect in the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, and American Renaissance, the publication of an anti-immigration group, offers potential new insights into what may have caused the 22-year-old Arizonan to carry out the attack, which killed six people and wounded more than a dozen outside a Tucson, Ariz. stripmall on Saturday.
The CSMonitor story continues on to say:
American Renaissance is the publication of the The New Century Foundation, described by the Anti-Defamation League as a "self-styled think tank." The ADL, on its website, calls American Renaissance a "white supremacist journal and companion Website" that "promotes pseudoscientific studies that attempt to demonstrate the intellectual and cultural superiority of whites and publishes articles on the supposed decline of American society because of integrationist social policies."
It turns out that my hunches were correct! And we can say, Jared Lee Loughner isn't your typical American, and he's definitely not a Tea-partier, that would turn to violence because of the "vitriolic political rhetoric."

Therefor, my belief is that Sheriff Clarence Dupnik may just be your typical liberal!

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ)
TUCSON, Ariz. – Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head Saturday by a gunman who opened fire outside a grocery store during a meeting with voters, killing a federal judge and five others in a rampage that rattled the country and left Americans questioning whether divisive politics had pushed the suspect over the edge.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Giffords was the target of a gunman whom he described as mentally unstable and possibly acting along with an accomplice. He said Giffords was among 13 people wounded in the melee that killed six people, including Arizona's chief federal judge, a 9-year-old girl and an aide for the Democratic lawmaker. He said the rampage ended only after two people tackled the gunman.

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik
The sheriff pointed to the vitriolic political rhetoric that has consumed the country as he denounced the shooting that claimed several of his friends as victims, including U.S. District Judge John Roll. The judge celebrated Mass on Saturday morning like he does every day before stopping by to say hello to his good friend Giffords.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," the sheriff said. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."  [Emphasis my own]

Random acts of evil ~ By Patrice Lewis

My sincerest hope is that the importance and impact behind these events will be recognized for what they are – things of such deep and profound significance that paying heed can literally save our lives.

There is an old saying that the darkest hour is just before dawn. We are plunging into darkness with alarming speed. We have a lot of darkness to go through before we can see the light.

~ Patrice Lewis
After seeing the events of last Thursday (Dec. 9) in London, with the students rioting and attacking the car with Prince Charles and Camille riding in it, I felt like it was one of those dead canary moments that Patrice Lewis writes about in this column. Patrice asks, "Are we on the verge of a similarly devastating religious, economic or political upheaval?"

Patrice and her husband are not alone, as I also feel the darkness approaching rapidly.

(I hope that you will read the entire column, and not just the excerpts that I placed on this page. There is much more to this column than could be posted here. The link to the column is just below.)

Mining has always been a perilous occupation. One of the most insidious and invisible dangers comes from toxic gases that are heavier than air and therefore collect in low spots. These gases are lethal to miners because it can either poison them or explode with devastating consequences. For centuries it was the practice of miners to carry a caged canary into a mine with them. If the canary died, the miners knew there were gases present and it was too dangerous to remain.

Keep this in mind for a moment.

My husband came into my office on Thursday afternoon, visibly upset. "Do you know about the holy thorn tree of Glastonbury?" he asked.

"No, what is it?"

He told me the story of this remarkable tree. Legend has it that Joseph of Arimathea, who donated his own prepared tomb to lay the body of Jesus after the crucifixion, traveled to Britain after Jesus' death. On a hill by Glastonbury, he stuck his staff (which is said to have belonged to Jesus) into the ground before he went to sleep. When he woke up, the staff had sprouted into a thorn tree. This tree flowered twice a year, at Christmas and at Easter. It survived for centuries until it was chopped down by puritans during the English Civil War, but secret cuttings of the original tree were planted around the town. It was from one of those cuttings that a replacement tree was planted in the original spot.

In 1965, Queen Elizabeth erected a wooden cross at Glastonbury with the inscription: "The cross, the symbol of our faith, the gift of Queen Elizabeth II, marks a Christian sanctuary so ancient that only legend can record its origin."

The Glastonbury Thorn tree before being chopped down
"Today," my husband concluded grimly, "someone cut down the thorn tree."

The Glastonbury Thorn tree after being chopped down
I gasped. I seldom have the urge to roundly damn someone to hell, but this was one of those moments. It sickens me to think that someone is so filled with evil and hatred that they would cruelly destroy a prominent Christian symbol.

My husband is not normally subject to flights of fancy, but this act unsettled him. "This would never have happened 20 years ago," he muttered. "I don't care what antipathy someone feels against Christianity, this would never have happened 20 years ago."

WikiLeaks sparks revolution ~ By Larry Klayman

Just in case you haven't yet, you need to read the two columns I have listed just below under RELATED COLUMNS. One of the things written by Klayman in the previous column, "WikiLeaks has done the world a service", is very relevant to this column and also the column by Diana West, which I will quote here:
And if Assange and WikiLeaks, who serve as media watchdogs in effect, are silenced by the "mullah in chief" Barack Hussein Obama, Czarina Hillary Clinton and the rest of their sympathetic establishment political hacks, who is next; Fox News?
And then, in this piece, Larry Klayman brings up the possibility that this is the beginning of something that chills me to the bone, given what Glenn Beck had discussed on his radio show yesterday (Dec. 10) morning:
While I prayed that it would not get to this, it is clear that we are already in the early stages of an eventual full-scale revolution. Will the government establishment pull back, start acting in the interests of ordinary Americans rather than just itself, and avert this potential disaster? While that is the question of the day, I am not hopeful from what I have seen recently from both political parties.
In watching Fox News in the last two days, I saw what Larry may have been seeing recently, which is a lot of what Glenn Beck had been discussing on that show I mentioned above. The following video is from several segments that was on Fox News on Thursday, Dec. 9:

In the mean time, we will pray that Larry Klayman and Glenn Beck are wrong. But, ignoring these events may be at your peril.

WikiLeaks sparks revolution

This week marked a milestone in our nation's history – and the American people smell a rat. "Washington, D.C.," is not only rotten to the core, it is now clear to all that the government establishment wants to destroy us. The revolution has finally begun.

Last week's column was about Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, the media watchdogs who released on the Internet over 250,000 pages of allegedly classified State Department documents exposing the rank deceit, corruption and stupidity in our foreign-policy establishment. Despite condemnation of Assange by even political commentators on the right – one incredibly calling for his assassination – conservative, libertarians and all of the other readers of my column responded in unison, agreeing that I am "right"; WikiLeaks did the world a service, and government threats to prosecute Assange are not only just another example of the establishment not liking to be exposed in the light of day but are also abhorrent.

However, the threats by Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Hussein Obama, himself, were just Round 1. This week, on what are likely to turn out to be trumped-up charges that Assange engaged in "unprotected sex" with two women who just happened to wander into his bed (no, this is regrettably not a Hollywood comedy), the Obama administration put Interpol up to arresting Assange in Great Britain – where he had been hiding – using Swedish law as the vehicle. He was taken into custody not because there was "probable cause" that he had committed any crime or even civil offense, but because he would not agree to questioning – which under American law, at least, he did not have to do thanks to our "Fifth Amendment" right against self incrimination. So the Obama administration put up British authorities to use Swedish law to arrest Assange using as a pretext his refusal to incriminate himself, since our legal system will not allow for this.
