19-Aug-11 Edition ~ Inside the debate: Missed opportunity for voters ~ By Herman Cain

Although former Gov. Pawlenty has announced that he is ending his race after last Saturday's Iowa straw poll, he was one of the most genuinely nice opponents in the race. I wish him well in wherever his future takes him.

Whereas the debate gave some people a chance to learn about some of the candidates' ideas for solving problems, different people have different ideas about who won. So pick your favorite candidate and declare them the winner.

But clearly, the American people lost an opportunity to learn more than they did.

As do all the GOP candidates for President, Herman has his flaws. There's no question about it, Herman Cain is way too honest to be a politician. In a post-Iowa Straw Poll interview, Citizen Cain had this to say:

Yes, Herman definitely has his flaws. He is consistent. He doesn't put his finger in the air to see which way the political winds are blowing. Herman sticks to his convictions. Politicians just don't act that way. Oh, wait, that's what is different about him, isn't it?

Wait a minute.... I'm not the only person out here that is tired of the polished politicians always being the presidential candidates, am I?

Actually, in my humble opinion, there is incontrovertible evidence that Herman Cain is exactly what people in the Tea Party Movement are looking for in a candidate, one that would defeat the current President. Rick Perry could beat Obama, too, but can we completely trust that he wouldn't be more of the same? I'm just sayin'...

First, let's clarify some of the media noise about my campaign and my intentions.

I am running for president, seeking the Republican nomination. I finished fifth in the Iowa straw-poll last Saturday ahead of six other candidates. The candidates who finished ahead of me spent millions on TV and radio advertising, and we spent $0.

We have no debt beyond travel and other expenses, which we settle within 30 days after the end of the month. We are raising money at a rate ahead of expenses. We are running the campaign like a business. What a novel idea, and it is working!

With a national name ID of just 46 percent, I have no intentions of dropping out of the race. All of those predictions of the demise of my campaign are all self folly.

Now, last week all media eyes were on Iowa with the latest presidential debate and the Iowa straw poll. Both events are barometers of knowledge of the issues and their respective solutions, presentation, communication skills and how well a candidate can get his supporters to turn out for events. But neither event is a predictor of who will ultimately win the Republican Party's nomination.

Herman Cain shines in debate ~ By Joseph Farah

I think Herman Cain scored a tremendous victory in his long-shot campaign for the presidency by going toe to toe with these seasoned politicians and outshining them all.

I'm sure many other Americans are feeling good about the fact that there is at least one exciting candidate in the Republican field already.
Last July, I wrote, "In my humble opinion? This is the guy! He IS the worst nightmare that Obama could ever have!" I've been excited about this guy as a potential GOP candidate for a long time! And so is Joseph Farah, which wouldn't ever surprise me. Joseph was one of the first to let us know that Herman Cain would be a great candidate for the GOP nomination. And it was Joseph, last July, that discussed the things about Herman Cain that inspired me:
Herman Cain is another name to add to the list.

It's a long way between now and 2012. But listening to a man like this gives me hope. He's inspirational, and we desperately need inspiration. He's fiery, and we desperately need that passion. He's experienced, beyond the experience one gets playing politics through adulthood.

I don't know about you, but I get excited thinking about the possibilities for 2012. People like Herman Cain need our encouragement and our prayers.
But somebody had beaten Joseph Farah to the punch: From his own staff! There was a column by Chelsea Schilling on WND that actually appeared three days before Joseph Farah's commentary. It was actually Chelsea who wrote the story saying that Herman Cain was contemplating a run for President in 2012:
Cain, a devout Christian, emphasized he is "prayerfully considering" a 2012 bid for the GOP nomination.

"I'm a man of faith, and I do believe in prayerful consideration of something this big," he explained.
Well, as Joseph wrote in this column, "I'm sure many other Americans are feeling good about the fact that there is at least one exciting candidate in the Republican field already."

Let me add another ingredient to what Joseph said: Herman is a candidate to seriously consider! One of the factors that made Herman the leader of my field of potential GOP candidates was his involvement with the Tea Party Movement. I already knew who Herman was. I had heard some of his speeches. Impressive!

Don't just take Joseph Farah's word for it. Don't even take my word for it! Do your own homework, and find out who Herman Cain is. And I'm sure that Joseph Farah is just as biased in favor of Herman as am
I! I do have a feeling that people involved with the Tea Parties across America will have mutual feelings. But I'm just sayin'....

Here are a couple of video clips provided by Fox News from the debate (just to prove the point!):

Herman Cain
I watched the South Carolina Republican presidential debate Thursday, and I thought Herman Cain won hands down.

But I was tickled by the fact that virtually the entire focus group assembled by GOP pollster Frank Luntz agreed with my assessment.

Why did he win?

Because he has strong convictions and knows how to articulate them.

He didn't just win the debate – he blew the competition away.

And I have more news for you. I know Herman Cain personally. I've seen him in many other venues. I've heard him speak many times. This may come as a shock to the rest of the Republican presidential cast, but Herman Cain was not even at his best Thursday night.

It took him a while to warm up.

It must be a little intimidating to find yourself on national television for the first time debating as a presidential candidate. Knowing Herman Cain, I suspect that actually meant something to him. He's not an actor playing a presidential candidate. He's the real deal, motivated to action only, I suspect, by his deep love of country, not mere ambition.

So what am I saying here?

Am I saying I have found my presidential candidate to oppose Barack Obama's re-election in 2012?

Well, I've found at least one entirely acceptable to me. I will keep an open mind on some of the others.

But I like Herman Cain. I haven't found anything to dislike about him. He's charming, charismatic, bold, funny and principled.

What's not to like about that?

Herman Cain wins 1st debate

Most of those participating in the focus group had no previous familiarity with Cain. Only one of those bowled over by Cain watched the debate with intention of voting for him.

Cain's take-charge line came halfway through the debate when he was challenged on his lack of political experience. Cain pointed out Washington is filled with political experience and asked, "How's that working out for you?"

Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump and Michele Bachmann skipped the debate – along with some others who have not yet announced their intentions, such as Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee.

This is great news for Herman Cain and especially for his supporters! There is no need for a long commentary regarding this story. You can see the video below and then you decide.

But I do have a question about the time that this column was posted on WND.com. I didn't think the debate started until 9:00 PM Eastern on Fox News. Was it pre-recorded? Why is the time the article was posted at 7:53 PM Eastern? I'm just sayin'...

UPDATE! ~ May 6, 2011 @ 2:45 a.m.

Before I had posted this column, I had searched youtube for a video regarding Frank Luntz and this focus group, but didn't find it. But now, thanks to Draft Herman Cain on Facebook, I found it! And here it is! This is quite amazing. You'll see!

HERMAN CAIN
WASHINGTON – Herman Cain, who barely ranked in public-opinion polls among the Republican presidential challengers before tonight's televised debate in South Carolina, wowed a focus group of likely GOP voters assembled by pollster Frank Luntz.

Even Luntz said the reaction of the group was unprecedented in its unanimity – Cain won.

"In all the years I have been doing this, I have never seen a reaction like this to a debate," said Luntz.

Still misunderstanding 'birthers' ~ By Joseph Farah

Good journalists, with any seasoning at all, understand that politicians lie, deceive, obfuscate and conceal.

If you don't start with that supposition, you will be hoodwinked every time you cover a story. You might as well become a publicity hack for politicians if you take their word for anything – including where they were born and who their parents were.

The scandal of Obama's questionable constitutional eligibility is not just that our political system failed us in 2008. The scandal is compounded by how our "free press" continues to fail us through sophomoric misreporting and disinformation on the subject.

Joseph Farah isn't arguing about what Obama's birth certificate says (or doesn't say). He's not claiming that the President was born somewhere else besides Hawaii. What he IS asking is why the media refuses to question why Obama has kept his long-form birth certificate and other vital documents from public view. Doesn't that raise enough questions that a good journalist would want to look into? What I think really upsets Joseph is that the mainstream press is way too busy getting tingles running up their legs for Obama, and not being good journalists.

The headline in the Capitol newspaper The Hill said: "Pawlenty dismisses 'birthers.'"

This I had to read. I even watched former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty deliver the speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, just to make sure I understood what this likely presidential candidate said about the issue of constitutional eligibility.

It turns out The Hill, like some other news organizations, completely misrepresented Pawlenty's carefully chosen words, with which I happen to agree 100 percent.

Watch the video for yourself.

(Please note: Unfortunately, the video and audio are not in sync.)

Video provided by GovernorTimPawlenty ~ February 11, 2011

Pawlenty said: "I'm not one who questions the existence of the president's birth certificate. But when you listen to his policies, don't you at least wonder what planet he's from? On what planet do they create jobs by taxing the daylight out of people trying to grow jobs? On what planet do they try to reduce the deficit by spending even more? On what planet do they make health care better by putting bureaucrats in charge?"

I've been called "the king of the 'birthers." How is it that I agree with Pawlenty?

I don't know any thinking, rational person who questions the existence of Obama's birth certificate. Of course he's got one. The question is not whether he has one. The question is what it says about where he was born and who his parents were. That question remains an open debate because the American people and all controlling legal authorities have been systematically denied a peek at any document that might offer an answer.

The Hill's lead for the story said: "Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) explicitly distanced himself from 'birthers' during a highly anticipated speech before conservatives on Friday."

Pawlenty did no such thing. He said nothing with which thoughtful "birthers" could disagree. He not only jokingly questioned Obama's American birthright, he questioned what planet he was from. This is explicitly distancing himself from "birthers"? Only to pseudo-journalists who report caricatures and stereotypes as facts. Only to the kind of pseudo-journalists who think reporting is regurgitating nonsense they've heard Keith Olbermann say.

Rush Limbaugh livid: GOP has death wish

From WorldNetDaily Republicans 'as dangerous to this country as the Democrat Party is' Posted: October 27, 2009 ~ 7:42 pm Eastern © 2009 WorldNetDaily Rush LimbaughTalk-radio icon Rush Limbaugh says the Republican Party has a death wish – and is as dangerous to the United States as the Democrat Party and its czars. Limbaugh's comments came today as he was discussing the race for Congress in New York's 23rd district, where the GOP picked a liberal nominee to oppose a liberal Democrat, passing over a conservative candidate who wanted to represent the GOP, a candidate now pursuing the seat as a third-party candidate. "They have a death wish. The Republican Party has a death wish. Gallup: 40 percent of Americans now say they are conservative, 20 percent say they're liberal, 36 percent say they're moderates. And of those three groups, which one is being ignored – not just ignored – which one is being attacked by the Republican Party? The conservatives! " Limbaugh said today. "It's worse than I thought. I thought this was just based on elitism and northeast moderate liberalism, and embarrassment of the people that the social issues attract to the party. But now it's just plain stupidity," he continued. "The Republican Party, as constituted is as dangerous to this country as the Democrat Party is. 'But Rush, party loyalty is party loyalty, and the local Republican committee up there has endorsed Scozzafava.' So? I'm saying the two parties are the same. I guess I need to amend it a little bit, but, man, when I saw that they were running ads, as I say, ruined two hours of my day," he said. [CLICK HERE TO READ MORE]
