You have singled me out directly, admonishing members of Congress not to listen to my show. Bill Clinton has since chimed in, complaining about the lack of balance on radio. And a number of members of your party, in and out of Congress, are forming a chorus of advocates for government control over radio content. This is both chilling and ominous. As a former president of the Harvard Law Review and a professor at the University of Chicago Law School, you are more familiar than most with the purpose of the Bill of Rights: to protect the citizen from the possible excesses of the federal government. The First Amendment says, in part, that "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press." The government is explicitly prohibited from playing a role in refereeing among those who speak or seek to speak. EMP attack: Overlooked catastrophe - By Hal Lindsey

Hal's article about the EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) weapon, which is created by detonating a nuclear device very high in the atmosphere, is somewhat sketchy about what that weapon can do. Basically, when the weapon is detonated, the pulse of the electromagnetic waves are capable of literally frying any type of unshielded electrical circuit, which includes computer chips - which are now found in vehicles, appliances, civilian or military aircraft, military weapons, and satellites. The area of the affects would be very wide spread. The altitude of the device when detonated will determine the extent of the area affected and carnage below. And this is why the last paragraph of his column makes a lot of sense:

I never thought I would say this, but just maybe this is the reason that in chapter 38 of Ezekiel he predicts that the armies that invade Israel in the last days are all riding horses. Could it be that Ezekiel's prophecy is more literal than any of us dared to believe?

The following part of the column also deserves a minor correction, just to help clarify it:

Senators Grassley and Sanders offered an amendment to the bank bailout bill to prevent companies receiving bailout money from discharging American employees and replacing them with foreigners on H-1B visas. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and immigration advocates, such as the American Immigration Lawyers Association, immediately tried to defeat it. On January 23 Senator Grassley wrote to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer:

“I am concerned that Microsoft will be retaining foreign guest workers rather than similarly qualified American employees when it implements its layoff plan. As you know, I want to make sure employers recruit qualified American workers first before hiring foreign guest workers. For example, I cosponsored legislation to overhaul the H-1B and L-1 visa programs to give priority to American workers and to crack down on unscrupulous employers who deprive qualified Americans of high-skilled jobs. Fraud and abuse is rampant in these programs, and we need more transparency to protect the integrity of our immigration system. “Last year, Microsoft was here on Capitol Hill advocating for more H-1B visas. The purpose of the H-1B visa program is to assist companies in their employment needs where there is not a sufficient American workforce to meet their technology expertise requirements. However, H-1B and other work visa programs were never intended to replace qualified American workers. Everyone in America wants the government to do something to end the economic tailspin – quick. The problem, of course, is that there is little agreement on what the government should do. Democrats, generally speaking, want to put a trillion dollars in purchases on a new credit card. The new purchases will provide the goods and services the government wants the people to have. Republicans, generally speaking, want to reduce taxes sufficiently to leave a trillion dollars in the pockets of the people so they can purchase the goods and services they want. The proposed solution is an awkward combination of the goals of the Democrats and the Republicans. At best, it is little more than a Band-Aid on a cancer that has been growing in America for half a century. Obama’s New Republic; Attempts To Impose Socialist Law

Obama made a sweeping statement today to impose a restriction on what CEOs of companies that accept US bail-out money can earn. This is not only misguided, it is illegal and in direct conflict with the Constitution Obama swore he would uphold. It is Obama’s first attempt at passing socialist legislation, and he is attempting to do it without the approval of Congress, America or the Supreme Court, which would have no choice but to strike down any such law. Obama said, “As part of the reforms we are announcing today, top executives at firms receiving extraordinary help from U.S. taxpayers will have their compensation capped at $500,000 - a fraction of the salaries that have been reported recently. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president.We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote. To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot. The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother. The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down. The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream." She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it? She didn't know. The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was the ice cream.Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide. Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and fifty-two percent of the people reacted like nine year olds. They want ice cream. I am a huge Michael Steele fan, and I echo Michelle Obama "patriotic" comment that, "…for the first time in my adult life, I am proud to be an American". Just kidding. I have been a proud American since birth, and I see no real story about Michael Steele being the first Black head of the RNC, unless we are talking about the anecdote in history. Steele is eminently qualified to run the RNC. He is an ex-Lieutenant Governor, politically astute, smart, good-looking, articulate…and of course clean.
