Cruz vs. Trump: Not even a contest ~ By Star Parker

Star Parker
Star Parker: It takes a leader that's 'a little bit of a maniac' to turn things around

I am afraid that in this rare time, I may have to contradict Star's title to this column, which is "Cruz vs. Trump: Not even a contest." You see, there is just a little hint of misinformation, at least for some that haven't paid enough attention. There are some... no, wait, that should be MANY Republicans that believe there is no contest: Donald Trump is their guy! No contest.

However, Star isn't writing this as a Trump supporter, but as somebody that sees Ted Cruz as a true contender for that Republican Party nomination.  Star explains why SHE feels that Cruz would be a much better President, with his values still intact, and thus making him a better leader, by example, to turn around the decline of America. Yes, her case is about values, and I can not deny that fact. Here is how Star put it:
Now, with our economy growing well below historic average, with our national debt equal to the size of our entire economy, with Medicare and Social Security insolvent to the tune, by some measures, of $100 trillion, with the American family in shambles and almost half our babies being born to unwed mothers, you have to be on another planet, or a Democrat, not to know America is in decline.

But it takes a leader that’s “a little bit of a maniac” to take on turning this big ship around. It takes someone who cares more about country than about self to stand and fight against an entrenched status quo.

Ted Cruz has stood courageously alone since his first day in the Senate, shining light on what is wrong: about growing debt, about Obamacare, about taxpayer funds going to Planned Parenthood, about immigration. Donald Trump today is reaping the harvest of public awareness Ted Cruz has been sowing for years. Trump should be thanking Ted Cruz.
Please understand that I am not posting this column by Star Parker as an endorsement for Ted Cruz, nor am I predicting that Cruz will be the Republican nominee. I'm just the messenger, telling you what a columnist and author, that happens to be a black female, thinks about the top contenders for the 2016 GOP nomination.

What I will say is that I believe the Republican nomination is now between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. As for me, I'm weighing all the information about both candidates, the good and the bad. I pay attention to what the MSM says about them, because the Democrat rhetoric will echo the leftist media in the general election next Fall. Just to give the liberal media and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wassername something to really worry about, maybe the solution is to have Trump and Cruz on the ticket. Hillary wouldn't have a prayer! Just sayin'...

Cruz vs. Trump: Not even a contest

New polling shows Ted Cruz picking up major steam and looking very serious in challenging Donald Trump's leadership in the Republican presidential candidate field. A Bloomberg News/Des Moines Register poll shows Cruz now leading in Iowa. A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal national poll shows Cruz jumping up 12 points from 10 percent in late October.…

Get government out of the charity business ~ By Star Parker

Star Parker to lawmakers: Don't try to fix programs, just end them

According to a 2012 Congressional Research Service report and the staff of Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., who commissioned the report, combined annual federal and state spending on anti-poverty programs exceeds $ 1 trillion. About 75 percent comes from the federal government.

These funds, which include programs such as welfare, food stamps, low-income housing programs, child-care assistance, etc. are programs that mostly came onto the American scene with the War on Poverty and, in that they are focused on helping the less fortunate, are what it is usually considered charity.

These programs are notoriously wasteful and are too often counterproductive and motivated by political gain rather than genuine desire to really help people.

Funds extracted from taxpayers, dispensed by bureaucrats, under rules and conditions designed by other bureaucrats, remove personal responsibility from both the giving and receiving ends of the equation.
Without any doubt in my mind, Star Parker explains what the problem is, and how to solve it, all in one column.  Poverty itself is not the problem.  Handing out entitlements has only enabled the recipients to bring about generational poverty.  The ambition to get oneself off of the poverty train by their own efforts has been replaced by a willingness to accept handouts.

Our Founding Fathers understood that concept.  They had no intention of creating a government so willing to become the charity for the people.  The Founders understood the true concept of charity where people who have prospered would willingly contribute to the well-being of all citizens in need.  They knew that real charity was not a forced-giving program through taxes confiscated from a portion of income.  Americans, they knew, had love in their hearts, and wouldn't let people simply starve to death.

By all means, the statement by the farmer to Davy Crockett was what should have been remembered: “You will very easily perceive what a wide door this would open for fraud and favoritism and corruption, on the one hand, and robbing the people on the other.” That's an intelligent analysis by the farmer, but I wish he would added,"But once the government becomes a charity, it will never be able to be reversed, just like the income tax. (Not even with a Republican Congress!?)"

As Star so aptly put it a week ago:
One of President Ronald Reagan’s most famous quips was that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.

It is indeed sad that America today is plagued, indeed threatened, by the very institution it invented to protect its own citizens Government.
It wouldn't be so dismal to think about the future of America if a few more people were aware of this.  There could still be hope, but I'm not holding my breath, not even with the Republican landslide in the 2014 Midterm election  Just sayin'...

From wnd.com Commentary

The story is told that when Tennessee frontiersman Davy Crockett served in the U.S. Congress (between 1827 and 1835) he voted for a bill appropriating $20,000 for relief for victims of a fire that broke out in Georgetown.

When he returned home, a constituent farmer chastised him for supporting the bill and for “giving what is not yours to give.”

The farmer told Crockett the Constitution does not grant Congress the power to give charity, and if it did, “You will very easily perceive what a wide door this would open for fraud and favoritism and corruption, on the one hand, and robbing the people on the other.

We are far from those days. Supreme Court decisions over the years have opened the door for rationalizing just about anything under the spending authority of the Congress.

Those who crafted the U.S. Constitution did not intend limitations on the federal government’s role out of mean-spiritedness. They did so out of a sense of what would best serve the public.

It stands to reason that bureaucrats spending other people’s money – funds taken by force – is not going to produce good results.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing for Tuesday, Mar 6, 2012

Welcome to this edition of Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing!

What is WIFLI?
You may be wondering what the acronym "WIFLI" means. I started out by calling these issues the Time 2 Escape Daily, but that didn't work out very well. I quickly learned that putting these issues together on a daily basis was a task I was unable to accomplish. To replace "Daily" in the title, I coined the acronym WIFLI, which literally means "When I Feel Like It." Putting together a post on this blog WIFLI works much better for my schedule, and for the higher quality of each issue that is eventually published!

Please excuse me if I don't blush when I gush about this great edition of the Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing, for it is an excellent representation of the main theme of the stories and columns featured below.  (And, remember, it is Super Tuesday.... Very fitting!)

When our highly esteemed colleague and patriot Andrew Breitbart suddenly passed away, it was definitely a shock for many of us that knew him or were aware of his work. As Joseph Farah states, when somebody that is only 43 years of age with a wife and four children suddenly passes, "It’s just not right."

The total weirdness of the sudden, unexpected death of such a luminary that has found and brandished the weapon of mass destruction - the truth - against the colossal corruption going on in our society and politics seems to be a lot more than some people want to deal with. As Barbara Simpson writes, "Despite speculation there might have been foul play because of his new investigation of Barack Obama’s college days – which is not out of the realm of possibility...", the truth is, we still have the sorrow and grief for his family to deal with.

But sure enough, there are those out there that believe that Andrew's death was caused by the dark forces of evil wishing to prevent more revelations from becoming public. And though that is a topic that will be debated for many years, that isn't really what this particular post is about. (But don't worry, I did make sure that Alex Jones gets his two cents included below.)

Not taking away anything from the conspiracy theorists - and they may have a point - the real reason for me to focus on Andrew Breitbart today is to honor him by recognizing his leadership in the field of "citizen journalists," most of whom will never earn a nickel for doing what we do. The whole thing to remember is that there will not be just a 1,000 citizen journalists who will continue to fight for our freedom in our own ways, with the abilities that are God-given, but probably somewhere in the millions of us will carry on. That would fill up a lot of detention facilities (i.e., re-education camps)!

"They" may be able to take out one hero like Andrew Breitbart, if that is the case, but the pulse of those that desire to stay free will never, ever cease. The citizen journalists can't be silenced without a total purge. As I wrote on my facebook status one day: "Let me be perfectly clear: They will have to pry my grasp of Freedom from my cold, dead hands." Andrew Breitbart never ceased to keep trying to help us keep our liberty that our forefathers fought for. I'm just sayin'...

Breitbart legacy lives on in relaunched websites, final column
Via InfoWars.com: Breitbart’s Final Column Was Part of ‘Vetting Obama’ Series
From The Daily Caller ~ By Matthew Boyle ~ Published: 12:00 AM 03/05/2012

The late media mogul Andrew Breitbart’s final column was released Sunday night on a newly redesigned website that includes all of his “Big” sites under a single umbrella.

The column, which examines Obama’s admiration for radical community organizer Saul Alinsky, is titled “The Vetting, Part 1: Obama’s Love Song to Alinsky.”

Andrew Breitbart
Breitbart had planned the “Vetting” Obama series before his sudden death last Thursday at age 43. He announced the project during a speech at February’s Conservative Political Action Conference.

Breitbart said he didn’t believe the mainstream media did its job properly investigating President Obama’s past during the 2008 election and he would do the job the media failed to do this time around.

“I’ve got videos — this election we’re going to vet him,” he said in his CPAC speech, adding that “racial division and class warfare were central” to Obama’s 2008 “hope and change” slogans.

In his final column, Breitbart explored Obama’s decision in 1998 as a Illinois state senator to participate in a panel discussion after the performance of a new play celebrating the life of Alinsky.

Here is an excerpt from the introduction to Andrew's last column, "The Vetting, Part I: Barack's Love Song To Alinsky."
Prior to his passing, Andrew Breitbart said that the mission of the Breitbart empire was to exemplify the free and fearless press that our Constitution protects--but which, increasingly, the mainstream media denies us.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?” – “Who guards the guardians?” Andrew saw himself in that role—as a guardian protecting Americans from the left’s “objective” loyal scribes.

Andrew wanted to do what the mainstream media would not. First and foremost: Andrew pledged to vet President Barack H. Obama.

Breitbart: “Wait ‘Til They See What Happens March 1st”
Breitbart died hours before planned release of damning Obama footage
From InfoWars.com ~ By Paul Joseph Watson ~ Posted Friday, March 2, 2012

In a stunning coincidence, It appears Andrew Breitbart suffered his untimely death just hours before he was set to release damning video footage that could have sunk Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.

Andrew Breitbart
Around three weeks ago on February 9 during the ‘Blog Bash’ event in Washington DC, Breitbart made a prophetic comment that takes on a somewhat chilling nature given the fact that he died in the early hours of March 1st.

Speaking to Lawrence Sinclair of Sinclair News, Breitbart stated, “Wait til they see what happens March 1st.”

It’s almost certain that Breitbart was referring to his plan to release damning footage of President Obama that he had been promising to reveal throughout the month of February.

As we reported yesterday, Breitbart spoke of his intention to release the tape during his CPAC speech last month. The footage shows Obama in his college days appearing alongside former Weather Underground terrorists Bill and Bernardine Dohrn. Observers had speculated that the footage could have derailed Obama’s hopes for a second term.

Secretive nationwide network gives SEIU new organizing muscle
Via THEBLAZE ~ From The Daily Caller ~ By Richard Pollock ~ Published: 2:14 AM 03/05/2012

This is the first in a Daily Caller investigative series.

The politically aggressive Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has quietly created a national network of at least eight community-organizing groups, some of which function alongside the Occupy Wall Street movement, a Daily Caller investigation shows.

Incorporated by the SEIU as local non-profits, the groups are waging concerted local political campaigns to publicly attack conservative political figures, banks, energy companies and other corporations.

Each local group has portrayed itself as an independent community organization not tied to any special interest. But they were founded, incorporated, and led by SEIU personnel.

The individual activist groups use benign-sounding names including This Is Our DC; Good Jobs, Great Houston; Good Jobs, Better Baltimore; Good Jobs Now in Detroit; Fight for Philly; One Pittsburgh; Good Jobs LA; and Minnesotans for a Fair Economy.

In reality, they are creations of the wealthy and influential labor union, amounting to a secret network of new SEIU front groups.

COMMENTARY

I will start the conversation with the commentary regarding Andrew Breitbart by relating to you what I wrote within a couple hours after hearing the news and knowing it was confirmed:

Time 2 Escape WIFLI Special Edition: Andrew Breitbart dead at 43
From Blogging In Our Time 2 Escape ~ Posted Thursday, March 01, 2012, 11:18 A.M.

~ A Time 2 Escape WIFLI SPECIAL EDITION ~

ANDREW BREITBART
A very short time ago, when the story first broke on Fox News and then on Glenn Beck's radio show, I found out that Andrew Breitbart had passed away early today (or late yesterday?) from "natural causes."

It was a very big shock. I had just woke up from a very much needed power nap here in my office (darn, missed about 20 minutes of Glenn Beck's show!) when the story broke on Fox News, and so I pinched myself to make sure it wasn't just a dream, or a terrible nightmare. Very unfortunately, I was wide awake, and it really did happen.

The news hit me very hard. The things that Andrew had worked on in the last few years were fearless. He was a courageous patriot that exposed the corruption in government. Andrew understood that Americans needed to know what is really going on. He exposed ACORN back in 2009, with the help of undercover videographers James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles.

The fearlessness and courage of the man and his associates is matched by very few.

Back in the day before the WIFLI editions, I used to write about various commentaries by other patriots, one being Victoria Jackson that often received my accolades. This story was very fitting for this issue concerning Andrew Breitbart's influence on the New Media. My excerpt from this commentary will be from the introduction that I had written:

I know Andrew Breitbart! ~ By Victoria Jackson
From Blogging In Our Time 2 Escape ~ Posted Monday, April 25, 2011, 10:04 A.M.

I was finally able to read Victoria's column from last Friday morning. I'm a little behind on my reading. There is no shortage of brilliant columns to immerse ourselves in. Great media is coming at us 24/7/365 (366 next year!). And now with twitter and facebook and text messages telling us what our friends are reading or watching, there really is an infinite number of ways to entertain - excuse me, I mean educate - ourselves. Things just keep getting more hectic! But I am glad that I finally got to read Victoria's column. I learned a few things.

You will understand the gravity of the second paragraph of the excerpt above once you read down further. But first, make sure that you play the video below where Andrew Breitbart explains the citizen journalist movement to Sean Hannity:

~ Video provided by Fox News ~

It is all about CITIZEN JOURNALISM! I emphasize that point, because that is what this column is really about... for me. Sure, the actual theme of the column is that liberals can turn Conservative. Victoria and Andrew had once believed that they were liberals. They had at one time bought into the liberal lies... I mean ideologies. They became Conservatives. Don't forget, Ronald Reagan did the same thing.

WASHINGTON – You don’t expect to wake up in the morning to learn that a friend, colleague and fellow co-conspirator – 15 years your junior – has died.

That’s the news I got today about Andrew Breitbart, someone I have known and admired for nearly 15 years.

I still can’t believe it. All who knew him were hoping that someone had hacked into his website this morning and posted the news as a cruel joke. That would be just like Andrew’s enemies. But, alas, the unbelievably tragic announcement was confirmed.

Goodbye, Andrew, and thank you
Exclusive: Barbara Simpson ponders sting and suddenness of death

From WND Commentary ~ By Barbara Simpson ~ Published Mar 4, 2012
BARBARA SIMPSON
The morning I heard that Andrew Breitbart was dead, I was barely awake as the radio announcement broke through my groggy brain. The news, however, snapped me to attention and I began a day that drifted between the radio and the Internet to get the news, the updates, the speculation and the remembrances.

I didn’t know Andrew personally, but he was a guest on my KSFO radio program many times, always generous with his time and comments.

He was outspoken, brash, courageous and tireless.

I loved the story of his life from wild-child liberal to wild-man conservative! I admired him and his work and his accomplishments. He made my job easy, but his job was never-ending and difficult, battling the establishment.

The love/hate relationship Andrew’s work engendered was apparent in the reactions to his death.

Conservatives, those who were friends and those who were fans, lamented the loss and praised his diligence and courage in exposing the hypocrisy in today’s culture and politics.

To call the liberals predictable in their reaction to Breitbart’s passing would be generous. They were like lemmings going over the cliff, and their veiled insults were almost pleasant compared to the viciousness of blogs and tweets that relished in delivering the most egregious insults.

But the one aspect of his death was the suddenness. According to reports, he was fine, went out for an evening walk, stopped for a glass of wine and spent some time in good conversation and on his way home, dropped dead. Literally. He was 43.

Despite speculation there might have been foul play because of his new investigation of Barack Obama’s college days – which is not out of the realm of possibility...

Breitbart's final message to the left
Star Parker: 'Irony is that truth and compassion come from humility, not pride'
From WND Commentary ~ By Star Parker ~ Published Mar 2, 2012

STAR PARKER
If you think about it, Andrew Breitbart’s untimely passing from this life, at the age of 43, might be seen as the ultimate message that this man of media could deliver.

Breitbart famously used his media talent, particularly his facility with new media and new journalism, to fight the agenda of the left.

And what could strike more effectively at the heart of the premises of the left than the inscrutable death of a young and prodigiously talented and successful man, still scaling the heights of achievement, husband and father to four young children.

The fact is that the inconceivable and the unanticipated is the rule of our lives rather than the exception. Nothing more clearly defines the line which separates the political left from the political right than appreciation of this fact.

The left, after all, is about the pretense of planning, power and control. It’s about the belief that man – political man – can define and control the world and can appoint himself the final authority to determine what is fair and mete out justice.

Yes, it is true, I can not avoid telling you that there will be plausible suspicions regarding the death of Andrew Breitbart. That is part of this story, after all. To bring some light to the possibility, I can always depend on Alex Jones, who you can entrust to come up with that alternative possibility that many may not even think about.

Did The Obama Crime Machine Kill Breitbart?

Video provided by TheAlexJonesChannel on Mar 1, 2012

It took LA a week to declare the cause of death for Whitney Houston but they knew 2 hours after Andrew Breitbart's death that it was natural and they told the world as fast as they could. Andrew said he would release film that would hurt Obama and now he is dead. It goes on and on and if that film dose not get released in full I call shenanigans.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing for Monday, Feb 27, 2012

From John Kubicek
Editor In Chief of johnny2k's Blogging In Our Time 2 Escape:

What if we could free ourselves from the yoke of big government through a campaign of education and information and personal courage that leads to a revolutionary return to first principles? What if the establishment doesn’t want this?

~ Judge Andrew Napolitano, in "What if democracy is bunk?"
Yes, folks, there are some questions that we should assume need to be answered before November 6, 2012.

And BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I have been striving to tell you about the questions that we should be aware of, and that there should be an attempt to find answers. I don't have the answers, but I DO know the solutions to our problems can not be solved if the general population of this country is totally oblivious to what faces us in our (near?) future!

But... I have found a troubling situation that needs to be addressed in today's WIFLI Briefing.

The troubling situation is that I sometimes get frustrated and distraught when I find that there is very little traffic for a few days on this blog. That's a pretty silly emotion on my part. All  I have to do is to go back and see the progress I've made over the years, and remember things that I've learned, like the following:
The more experience you have with what doesn’t work, the more you’ll move in the direction of what does work. With persistence and a clear sense of purpose, failure can lead you steadily toward success.

~~ Ralph Marston, Friday, Feb 24, 2012, in "Everything can move you forward"
Rather than giving up when we have setbacks, it should be a greater motivation to keep on truckin'!! Exactly ditto of what Ralph Marston is saying!

Things - like FREEDOM - in America are getting further and further from what I enjoyed while growing up. I happen to now believe in the fact that if I don't do anything about it, I would not only be proving that I am complacent, but I would also be guilty in being complicit in allowing our freedom to be thrown into the dustbin of history. I think that John Stossel hit the nail on the head:

The politicians are spending us into oblivion. But I can’t blame only them. The American people are complacent. We like the goodies. We think we’re getting something for nothing. We are like alcoholics who know we have a problem but just can’t resist one last fix. One more infrastructure bill or jobs plan will jump-start the economy. Then we’ll kick our spending addiction once and for all.

~ John Stossel, in "My plan to balance the budget"
Should freedom in America pass away, so will America, just like the many empires before us. Like I said in a facebook status not long ago, "Let me be perfectly clear: They will have to pry my grasp of Freedom from my cold, dead hands."

And to make no mistake; don't even imagine for even a minute, that this is about any type of monetary reward should the Time 2 Escape blog go viral.  I just want to make sure that as many freedom loving patriots as possible have the information that is available to us, and make sure that the complacency doesn't persist. Though, I guess going viral would be kind of fun! I'm just sayin'...

US Bolsters Defenses in Strait of Hormuz
From NEWSMAX ~ Saturday, 25 Feb 2012 12:22 PM

The Pentagon has notified US lawmakers of plans to bolster US defenses in and around the Strait of Hormuz to be prepared for a military response against Iran, a report said Friday.

New mine-detection and clearing equipment as well as improved surveillance capabilities are part of the planned build-up, said the Wall Street Journal, citing defense officials briefed on the requests.

The Pentagon also wants to modify ship weapons systems to best deal with Iranian attack boats in the Strait, said the report.

The moves highlight efforts to boost US military capabilities amid heightened tension with Iran and rising speculation of a strike from Israel over Iran's nuclear program.

Iran prepares for kamikaze attacks
Tehran military on high alert with planes, speedboats in Persian Gulf
From WND ~ By Reza Kahlili ~ Published Feb 26, 2012

Even as it continued to talk with the U.N. nuclear watchdog, Iran continued to prepare for war over its nuclear weapons program, training for kamikaze attacks in the Persian Gulf with both planes and speedboats, sources within the Iranian armed forces report.

Tuesday the International Atomic Energy Agency called its recent talks with Iran a failure. And just days before, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ordered the Revolutionary Guards, along with the army, on high alert, ready with conventional and unconventional means to respond to any aggression by the U.S. or Israel over its nuclear weapons program, the sources say.

The Guards’ missile commanders, in their preparation for a fierce counterattack, have mapped out all U.S. bases in the region to strike with their missiles in order to disrupt America’s air sorties, believing they will be the main thrust of any attack by America.

Wyoming Advances ‘Doomsday Bill’ to Help Residents During Possible Collapse
From THEBLAZE ~ by Billy Hallowell ~ Posted on February 27, 2012 at 8:45am

Over the past few years, economic woes have led to both fear and uncertainty. The Blaze already told you about what “preppers” are doing to ready themselves should disaster become reality. GBTV, too, has brought you “Independence USA,” a reality show featuring a family trying to live off the grid. But now it seems even some politicians are getting in on the preparatory spirit, with officials in the State of Wyoming advancing what many are calling a “Doomsday Bill.”

In the event that America’s political system or economic stability collapses, some Wyoming lawmakers contend that a viable plan must be in place. Enter Bill 85, which passed its first vote in the state’s House on Friday. If advanced, the “Doomsday Bill” would create a state-run government task force that would explore and handle energy supplies, food shortages and other needs related to a potential nationwide governmental collapse.

Bullish on Santorum
Star Parker: Conservative support for senator will only grow in days ahead
From WND Commentary ~ By Star Parker ~ Published Friday, Feb 24, 2012

STAR PARKER
New Gallup polling shows the clearest picture yet of the great divide in the Republican Party that has been pushing Rick Santorum to the head of the class.

Behind Santorum’s 8-point national lead over Romney is a yawing gap in ideological support for the two candidates.

Conservative support for Santorum stands at 42 percent, compared to 24 percent for Romney. Among those who attend church frequently, support for Santorum is at 44 percent and for Romney 22 percent.

In the nation’s heartland in the Midwest and South, Santorum leads by 19 and 8 points, respectively. It is only on the more liberal East and West coasts where the two are running neck and neck.

Was Ronald Reagan
"a perfect conservative"?
The poll also challenges conventional wisdom that Santorum is too conservative for the tastes of independent voters. He is leading Romney among Republican leaning independents by 8 points.

With Santorum establishing himself as the candidate of choice among conservative and churchgoing Republicans, Romney’s tactic, manifest in the debate in Arizona, is to try and discredit Santorum’s credentials that are drawing conservative voters to him.

From WND Commentary ~ By Tom Tancredo ~ Published Friday, Feb 24, 2012

TOM TANCREDO
One of the most reliable truisms in politics is full of irony: When it comes to predicting presidential elections, conventional wisdom is nearly always wrong.

Washington pundits talk and write mostly for themselves, and certainly not for the history books. If they were paid according to their track records as political prognosticators, they would all be on food stamps.

The conventional wisdom in 1960 was that John Kennedy could not win a debate against the experienced Richard Nixon. In 1966, the conventional wisdom said a lightweight movie actor named Ronald Reagan had no chance to unseat the popular incumbent Democratic governor of California. Conventional wisdom in 2008 said Barack Obama has no chance to beat the popular wife of a popular ex-president.

The conventional wisdom a year ago said Mitt Romney would run away with the Republican nomination.

Is there a pattern here? Politics is full of surprises, and 2012 is no different.

Power attracts the corruptible. Suspect all who seek it.

– Frank Herbert, “Dune
PATRICE LEWIS
It was nothing more than a random headline my husband read out loud off the Internet this week, something about how Hillary Clinton wants to be the new president of the World Bank.

“You know,” I commented as I stirred a pot on the stove, “I simply do not understand why people don’t long for a quiet simple life, with a job they can leave behind at the end of the day and a warm and loving family life they can come home to.”

That’s the way most of us are wired, after all. Naturally we have plans and ambitions, but for most people, the family they come home to at the end of the day is the thing that really counts.

But not everyone feels this way. Some people long to be the president of the World Bank for apparently no other reason than a lust for power. It’s like a fever in the blood and a condition literally unfathomable to those who don’t share it. My husband calls it The Centurion Complex (Matthew 8:8-9): I tell them to come and they come; I tell them to go and they go.

Lust is defined as an overwhelming craving. Power is the ability to dominate or rule others. People with a lust for power over others don’t think like you and me. They gauge things on a different scale. Those afflicted with this condition naturally gravitate toward positions in life where obedience is compulsory – and what better arena than government, where their craving can be enforced at the point of a gun?

Supply, Demand, Currency and Futures – The Truth About Gas Prices
From A Voice of Sanity ~ By Robert Ringer ~ Published Monday, Feb 27, 2012

ROBERT RINGER
Our old friend, “pain at the pump,” is with us once again, and this time it promises to be far more painful than the last time around. “Pain at the pump” is a nice little catchphrase, but I’ve never been able to figure out why people pick on gas. After all, isn’t it just as painful to pay $250,000 for a house that used to cost $8,000? Or $30,000 for a car that once cost $2,000? And what about the skyrocketing prices of such basic foods as milk, bread, and eggs?

The fact is that the price of gasoline is relative. Relative to what Americans have been used to paying, $4.00-$5.00 a gallon sounds like a lot. And $6.00-$7.00 a gallon — which is almost certain to come — is going to sound like a lot more. But relative to what countries such as the UK, France, and the Netherlands have been paying for years, these prices are no big deal.

But what, exactly, drives up gas prices? Some of the major factors include:

Supply. So long as “environmentalists” have their way, our lack of accessible domestic supply assures that gas prices will continue to rise. The far left, intent on bringing about a green-energy society, cheers on Richard Nixon’s creation, the Environmental Protection Agency, as it continues to stifle oil production at every turn. Obama’s refusal to build the Keystone Pipeline is just the latest example of how committed the green crowd is to bringing oil production to a standstill.

Demand. The emergence of China and India as economic superpowers, not to mention smaller emerging economic powers such as Chile and Brazil, assures continued upward pressure on energy prices, even if the growth of these economies slows in the coming years.

Middle East tensions. Summed up in one word: Iran.

Currency devaluation. Above all, the Federal Reserve continues to quietly increase the money supply, which puts unrelenting downward pressure on the U.S. dollar. What makes the continual devaluation of the dollar a unique factor is that it creates the illusion that gas prices are rising.

Futures market. Speculators take all of the above factors, and more, into consideration and bet on the future price of oil — the usual result of which is to drive prices still higher.

Of course, there are other factors that play into the equation as well, such as the 18.4¢ per gallon federal excise tax, but the biggest drivers of high gas prices are the five that I’ve listed above.

Even so, there is an even bigger reason why gas prices are sure to rise dramatically in the future: the coming “excess-profits tax.” In less gentle terms, I’m talking about increased government confiscation of oil-company profits. This theft will cause oil companies to pull in their horns and put the brakes not only on oil drilling, but on research for alternative sources of energy as well.

The class-warfare folks in the nation’s capital have a slam dunk when it comes to demonizing the major oil companies. They conveniently ignore the fact that the five largest oil companies — Chevron, Shell, BP, ExxonMobil, and ConocoPhillips — make a bit over 6 percent profit on sales, or about one-fourth the profit margin that Google enjoys. That being the case, one wonders why the kleptomaniacs in Washington don’t slap Google with an excess-profits tax.

Of course, some would argue that people don’t need Google, but they do need gas. Need, however, is a subjective term. It is simply a euphemism for want. Everyone claims to need gas, which simply means they want it. They also want to pay less for gas and less for cars, food, housing, medical care, and baseball, football, and basketball tickets. Worse, pandering politicians have convinced them that not only are their desires needs, but their needs are “rights.” Presto: Just like that, inexpensive gas becomes a right.

The High Priests of Eco-Destruction
From A Voice of Sanity ~ By Michelle Malkin - Wednesday, Feb 22, 2012

MICHELLE MALKIN
Rick Santorum is right. Pushing back against Democrats’ attempts to frame him as a religious menace, the GOP presidential candidate forcefully turned the tables on the White House: “When it comes to the management of the Earth, they are the anti-science ones.

Scrutiny of the White House anti-science brigade couldn’t come at a better time (which is why Santorum’s detractors prefer to froth at the mouth about comments he made four years ago on the existence of Satan). It’s not just big-ticket scandals like the stimulus-subsidized Solyndra bankruptcy or the Keystone pipeline debacle bedeviling America. In every corner of the Obama administration, the radical green machinery is hard at work — destroying jobs, shredding truth and sacrificing our economic well-being at the altar of environmentalism.

—Take Obama’s head of the National Park Service, please. While serving as the Pacific West regional director of the NPS, Jon Jarvis was accused of at least 21 instances of scientific misconduct by Dr. Corey Goodman, a high-ranking member of the National Academy of Sciences. Extensive information about Jarvis’ alleged role in cooking data about a California oyster farm’s impact on harbor seals at Point Reyes was withheld during the 2009 nomination process. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has ignored complaints and follow-up from both Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Republican Sens. James Inhofe and David Vitter.

The National Research Council determined that the NPS had “selectively” slanted its report on the oyster farm. The federal Marine Mammal Commission found that “the data and analyses are not sufficient to demonstrate a causal relationship” between the farm’s operations and harbor seal health. In a letter blasting the NPS for bullying the small oyster farm, Feinstein — normally a reliable eco-ally — concluded earlier this month that the “crux of the problem is that the Park Service manipulated science while building a case that the business should be shuttered.”

And, finally, there is this:
You don’t ever have to settle for less than the very best from life. Because you can envision what you desire and you can work diligently to make it so.

Some would assume that the necessity of effort is a burdensome curse. Yet in reality it is one of life’s greatest blessings.

For it is the necessity of effort that enables you to dream your most treasured dreams, and then to make them real. You have the power to do it, and right here, right now, is when you can.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing for Friday, Feb 24, 2012

Sometime earlier yesterday, on Thursday morning, I knew I had a story to tell you.

I had found a link to a column where a British columnist/blogger had mentioned a weird thing that he noticed about Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. They seemed to gang up on Rick Santorum, but they never attacked each other. And then, I heard Rush Limbaugh put it all together. The story kept getting better and better. Like Rush said, there may have been more to it than the story that was broken by that British commentator, Toby Harnden.

You'll have to read further down this Briefing to find out what Rush Limbaugh said to make sense of it all.

In the meantime, I found so much material in my "show prep" notes, I ended up having to discard much of the potential material I had at my fingertips. Yes, it was good stuff, and it tugged at me to get into today's briefing, but it couldn't be done. The lineup was full, I could only put so many starters on the floor (a little basketball analogy there). I would still be working on this edition, and when done, you would still be reading when the polls open on November 6, 2012.

Sure, there is always more that I'd love to tell you about. The problem is that you are just like me and our time is limited. We can only soak up so much information at a time, and I am limited by time in gathering and including it. That, I believe, is the WIFLI experience. We can be quickly astonished by the amount of time it takes to be a sponge. But, hey, isn't that what keeps me working on this blog, and keeps you coming back for more? I'm just sayin'...

Audience Boos Contraception Question — Gingrich Then Slams Media Over Obama and ‘Legalized Infanticide’
From THEBLAZE ~ by Mytheos Holt ~ Posted on February 22, 2012 at 10:07pm

CNN Moderator John King got more than he’d bargained for Wednesday night when he asked the Republican candidates a question on contraception. The audience responded immediately with audible, angry booing, before Former Speaker Newt Gingrich seized the microphone and delivered another sharp rejoinder to King.

“I want to make two quick points, John. The first is there is a legitimate question about the power of the government to impose on religion activities which any religion opposes. That’s legitimate. But I just want to point out, you did not once in the 2008 campaign, not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide,” Gingrich said, to raucous applause.

Michael Savage: Santorum is right about Satan
'Someone who actually believes what he's talking about' can win White House
Exclusive ~ From WND ~ Published Feb 21, 2012
Rick Santorum
Comments unearthed from a 2008 speech about Satan’s influence on America made Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum the target of derision and mockery today, but talk-radio host Michael Savage contends the former Pennsylvania senator is right, and his beliefs should only help his chances for the White House this fall.

“I think Santorum is right, and I think that anyone who attacks him is not seeing this for what it is,” Savage told his radio audience.

Savage said he agrees that America is primarily a Christian nation, and its churches and synagogues are “filled with parishioners who are screaming for preachers and pastors and rabbis to speak the truth, and they’re not getting it.”

Forceful Santorum Fends Off Romney Attacks
From NEWSMAX ~ By Paul Scicchitano ~ Wednesday, 22 Feb 2012 10:00 PM

The final four GOP presidential candidates came out swinging Wednesday night on earmarks, the economy, healthcare and the automotive bailout in the 20th and final debate before the decisive Super Tuesday contests.

Much of the jabs were directed at the unlikely new front-runner — former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who is fresh off a triple-play of victories in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri.

Asked by CNN moderator John King why he ran an ad accusing Santorum of being a “fake,” feisty Texas Rep. Ron Paul retorted, “Because he’s a fake.”

Paul went on to attack Santorum’s support for the No Child Left Behind legislation, which he now plans to repeal if elected president.

“I find it really fascinating that when people are running for office they’re really fiscally conservative,” charged Paul. “When they’re in office they do something different. Then, when they explain themselves, they say ‘oh I want to repeal that.’ ”

"Look, politics is a team sport, folks," Santorum said of the measure backed by Republican President George W. Bush and other GOP lawmakers. "I voted for that; it was against the principles I believe in, but I did that to help the team. Sometimes you have to take one for the team."

Santorum campaign suggests Mitt Romney may have done deal to make Ron Paul his running mate
Via WND ~ From MailOnline ~ Toby Harnden's Blog ~ 23 February 2012 4:56 AM

After tonight's debate, in which Ron Paul and Mitt Romney repeatedly attacked Rick Santorum over his 16-year record in Congress, the former US Senator for Pennsylvania hinted that something nefarious was going on.

"You have to ask Congressman Paul and Governor Romney what they've got going together," Santorum told reporters in the spin room in Mesa, Arizona. "Their commercials look a lot alike and so do their attacks."

Santorum's top strategist John Brabender went even further, charging that the two men had "joined forces" and were coordinating attacks against his man

"Clearly there's a tag team strategy between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. For all I know, Mitt Romney might be considering Ron Paul as his running mate. Clearly there is now an alliance between those two and you saw that certainly in the debate."

Kentucky’s junior senator says it would be an honor to be considered as a possible running mate for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Senator Rand Paul first discussed his higher aspirations at the beginning of this year. He said he wouldn’t close the door on being a Vice Presidential candidate. After a speech in Louisville today, Paul held that door firmly open, saying he wants to be part of the national debate.

Rush: I Predicted a Romney-Paul Tag Team
From NEWSMAX ~ By Michelle Lopata ~ Thursday, 23 Feb 2012 01:54 PM

RUSH LIMBAUGH
Rush Limbaugh predicted a “meeting of the minds” between Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Ron Paul back in January but kept it to himself. Now that there is considerable speculation it might be a reality, he says he regrets his silence.

Limbaugh noted during his radio show on Thursday that he wrote his friends an email last month speculating that Romney and Paul may have struck an alliance to set up either the Texas congressman or his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, for the vice-presidential slot if the former Massachusetts governor became the GOP presidential nominee.

Limbaugh said that, in debate after debate, it was clear that the two candidates never “rip into each other.” Paul attacks everyone who happens to be the front-runner but never seems to go after Romney — and Romney never goes after Paul.

Following the Debate Wednesday night, The Daily Mail British newspaper ran a story about former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum suggesting a possible tag-team effort between his two rivals, and now Limbaugh is claiming he knew it all along.

How to win Republican nomination
Exclusive: Joseph Farah explains simple 'break out' strategy based on Ron Paul plan
From WND Commentary ~ By Joseph Farah ~ Published Feb 22, 2012

JOSEPH FARAH
I know how Rick Santorum can win the Republican nomination.

I’m not sharing any secrets with you I haven’t already shared with the former senator from Pennsylvania.

It’s really just a question of whether he will recognize the value of my advice and embrace it with the enthusiasm necessary to sell it to the American people.

By the way, if he doesn’t, the same idea can be used by either Mitt Romney or possibly even Newt Gingrich to secure the nomination – so time is short.

Everyone can see that grass-roots Republican voters are not yet excited about any single candidate for president. As of today, Santorum is polling nationally ahead of Romney. Gingrich and Ron Paul follow. No one has a commanding lead, and primary and caucus victories have been split.

So what’s the secret of breaking out?

It’s coming up with the bold domestic economic plan virtually all Republicans, most independents and even a strong plurality of Democrats will embrace.

And hey, how about a little discussion on WINNING THE CULTURE WAR? Again, Rick Santorum is the main player in this piece.

Parker: The Left's wins fuel Santorum surge
From GOPUSA Commentary ~ By Star Parker ~ Posted February 20, 2012 6:57 am

STAR PARKER
A succession of high profile left-wing decisions and initiatives of recent weeks drive home the extent to which the Left is changing the face of America.

Notable among these are the decision of a federal appeals court in California to uphold a prior court finding that California's Proposition 8, defining marriage as between a man and a woman, is unconstitutional; the reversal of a decision, because of a tsunami of left-wing pressure, of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to withdraw its funding to Planned Parenthood; and the Obama administration rulemaking refusing to grant a religious exemption from the new health care law employer mandate requiring provision of free contraception and sterilization services as part of health coverage.

These developments are, I think, helping to buoy the newly surging candidacy of Rick Santorum. Why?

Santorum stands out in the current Republican field in the clarity of his image and identity. There is little doubt about who the man is and there are no glaring inconsistencies between who he says he is today and his past behavior and positions.

So, if you are asking what is "fair," Thomas Sowell has an answer for you.

The 'Fairness' Fraud
From GOPUSA Commentary ~ By Thomas Sowell ~ Feb 22, 2012 6:55am

THOMAS SOWELL
During a recent Fox News Channel debate about the Obama administration's tax policies, Democrat Bob Beckel raised the issue of "fairness."

He pointed out that a child born to a poor woman in the Bronx enters the world with far worse prospects than a child born to an affluent couple in Connecticut.

No one can deny that. The relevant question, however, is: How does allowing politicians to take more money in taxes from successful people, to squander in ways that will improve their own reelection prospects, make anything more "fair" for others?

Even if additional tax revenue all went to poor single mothers -- which it will not -- the multiple problems of children raised by poor single mothers would not be cured by throwing money at them. Indeed, the skyrocketing of unwed motherhood began when government welfare programs began throwing money at teenage girls who got pregnant.

Children born and raised without fathers are a major problem to society and to themselves. There is nothing "fair" about increasing the number of such children.

A more fundamental problem with the "fairness" issue raised by Beckel and many others is the slippery vagueness of the word "fair."

Initiated force: Liberals' tool of control
Exclusive: Phil Elmore notes the State's 'willingness to use violence to bring you to heel'
From WND Commentary ~ By Phil Elmore ~ Published Feb 22, 2012

PHIL ELMORE
Liberals adore force. While they hate any firearms they do not wield, and they abhor the notion of self-defense and self-preservation (because leftist ideology is fundamentally self-destructive), they exult in making the other fellow toe the line. From cradle to grave, every waking moment of a man’s life must be controlled if that man is to make the “right” choices as dictated by a lib.

Leftists believe that individual freedom is a threat to all and that freedom of action must be curtailed. The means to make you do as they wish is violence, codified in complex laws and regulations and enforced by the jackbooted thugs of an all-powerful state.

What better symbol is there for liberal violence than the “Occupy” movement, endorsed by President Obama and plagued by rape, disease, defecation and vile threats of assault and murder? These marching, mindless, ravening hordes, these entitled thugs, epitomize where and to what lib rule is driving us.

All lib violence has as its common denominator the desire to make you do something against your will. Democrats and left-wingers salivate at the thought of making you do what they say. They will impoverish you, imprison you, ruin you as totally and as thoroughly as they can, if you oppose them. This is the very definition of initiated force, a concept that runs counter to every instinct and consequence of a free society. It is for this reason that political liberalism, accompanied as it always is by the irresistible compulsion to force your fellow men to obey you, is completely antithetical to the United States Constitution.

Hollywood Should 'Just Say No' to Drugs
From NEWSMAX ~ By Michael Reagan ~ Posted Wednesday, 22 Feb 2012 04:50 PM

Another tremendously talented American who had riches and fame beyond most people's dreams has killed herself with drugs. Whitney Houston's life was wrecked and cut tragically short at 48 because she became mired in the self-destructive hell of drug use.

In the late 1970s my birth brother was living in L.A. and working as a writer on "Laverne & Shirley," the number one-rated TV show in the country. It was pretty heady stuff for a 21-year-old kid from Ohio.

I remember him telling me how cocaine and other drugs were becoming increasingly popular with the creative crowd in Hollywood at the time.

He had more money than God and he found himself facing a tough choice: Put his money up his nose like everyone else or leave town.

He chose to leave. Many other young people we know never made the right choice with drugs and their lives ended like Houston's.
