Just a question for you today.  When you voted, if you voted, did you vote for a Communist? 

Why would I ask that?  Because Dan Bongino asked that?  No, because before the election, I asked people that were planning to vote if they would be willing to vote for a total Marxist.  They would ask me who I was talking about.  I mentioned Kamala Harris, and brought up various patterns of her voting, which was the furthest to the left of anybody in the U. S. Senate.  Yes, but, she's only in the VP part of the ticket.  Well, sure, but honestly, do you think that Joe Biden is going to be capable of doing the job as President for four years?  Would if he only lasts four months?

Watch this episode if you haven't seen or heard it yet.  He has an excellent segment on not letting Fake News Media gaslight you on whether or not your vote will make any difference.  Don't ever let them fool you.  One of the highlights of yesterday's election was how close a lot of the races were, and still are!  It ain't over until it's over.  They told us that it would be a close one.  I'm keeping my faith, but after last night, I wasn't sure what I would wake up to in the morning.  I am still holding on to hope. And praying.  It would not be good if a Marxist like Harris were to assume the role of President of the United States.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing for Friday, Feb 24, 2012

Welcome to this edition of Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing!

What is WIFLI?
You may be wondering what the acronym "WIFLI" means. I started out by calling these issues the Time 2 Escape Daily, but that didn't work out very well. I quickly learned that putting these issues together on a daily basis was a task I was unable to accomplish. To replace "Daily" in the title, I coined the acronym WIFLI, which literally means "When I Feel Like It." Putting together a post on this blog WIFLI works much better for my schedule, and for the higher quality of each issue that is eventually published!
Sometime earlier yesterday, on Thursday morning, I knew I had a story to tell you.

I had found a link to a column where a British columnist/blogger had mentioned a weird thing that he noticed about Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. They seemed to gang up on Rick Santorum, but they never attacked each other. And then, I heard Rush Limbaugh put it all together. The story kept getting better and better. Like Rush said, there may have been more to it than the story that was broken by that British commentator, Toby Harnden.

You'll have to read further down this Briefing to find out what Rush Limbaugh said to make sense of it all.

In the meantime, I found so much material in my "show prep" notes, I ended up having to discard much of the potential material I had at my fingertips. Yes, it was good stuff, and it tugged at me to get into today's briefing, but it couldn't be done. The lineup was full, I could only put so many starters on the floor (a little basketball analogy there). I would still be working on this edition, and when done, you would still be reading when the polls open on November 6, 2012.

Sure, there is always more that I'd love to tell you about. The problem is that you are just like me and our time is limited. We can only soak up so much information at a time, and I am limited by time in gathering and including it. That, I believe, is the WIFLI experience. We can be quickly astonished by the amount of time it takes to be a sponge. But, hey, isn't that what keeps me working on this blog, and keeps you coming back for more? I'm just sayin'...

The audience responded immediately with audible, angry booing, before Former Speaker Newt Gingrich seized the microphone and delivered another sharp rejoinder to King.

“I want to make two quick points, John. The first is there is a legitimate question about the power of the government to impose on religion activities which any religion opposes. That’s legitimate. But I just want to point out, you did not once in the 2008 campaign, not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide,” Gingrich said, to raucous applause.

“I think Santorum is right, and I think that anyone who attacks him is not seeing this for what it is,” Savage told his radio audience.

Savage said he agrees that America is primarily a Christian nation, and its churches and synagogues are “filled with parishioners who are screaming for preachers and pastors and rabbis to speak the truth, and they’re not getting it.”

Forceful Santorum Fends Off Romney Attacks

The final four GOP presidential candidates came out swinging Wednesday night on earmarks, the economy, healthcare and the automotive bailout in the 20th and final debate before the decisive Super Tuesday contests.

Much of the jabs were directed at the unlikely new front-runner — former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who is fresh off a triple-play of victories in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri.

Asked by CNN moderator John King why he ran an ad accusing Santorum of being a “fake,” feisty Texas Rep. Ron Paul retorted, “Because he’s a fake.”

Paul went on to attack Santorum’s support for the No Child Left Behind legislation, which he now plans to repeal if elected president.

“I find it really fascinating that when people are running for office they’re really fiscally conservative,” charged Paul. “When they’re in office they do something different. Then, when they explain themselves, they say ‘oh I want to repeal that.’ ”

"Look, politics is a team sport, folks," Santorum said of the measure backed by Republican President George W. Bush and other GOP lawmakers. "I voted for that; it was against the principles I believe in, but I did that to help the team. Sometimes you have to take one for the team."

Santorum campaign suggests Mitt Romney may have done deal to make Ron Paul his running mate

Santorum's top strategist John Brabender went even further, charging that the two men had "joined forces" and were coordinating attacks against his man

"Clearly there's a tag team strategy between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. For all I know, Mitt Romney might be considering Ron Paul as his running mate. Clearly there is now an alliance between those two and you saw that certainly in the debate."

Rush Limbaugh predicted a “meeting of the minds” between Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Ron Paul back in January but kept it to himself. Now that there is considerable speculation it might be a reality, he says he regrets his silence.

Limbaugh noted during his radio show on Thursday that he wrote his friends an email last month speculating that Romney and Paul may have struck an alliance to set up either the Texas congressman or his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, for the vice-presidential slot if the former Massachusetts governor became the GOP presidential nominee.

Limbaugh said that, in debate after debate, it was clear that the two candidates never “rip into each other.” Paul attacks everyone who happens to be the front-runner but never seems to go after Romney — and Romney never goes after Paul.

Following the Debate Wednesday night, The Daily Mail British newspaper ran a story about former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum suggesting a possible tag-team effort between his two rivals, and now Limbaugh is claiming he knew it all along.

The 'Fairness' Fraud

During a recent Fox News Channel debate about the Obama administration's tax policies, Democrat Bob Beckel raised the issue of "fairness."

He pointed out that a child born to a poor woman in the Bronx enters the world with far worse prospects than a child born to an affluent couple in Connecticut.

No one can deny that. The relevant question, however, is: How does allowing politicians to take more money in taxes from successful people, to squander in ways that will improve their own reelection prospects, make anything more "fair" for others?

Even if additional tax revenue all went to poor single mothers -- which it will not -- the multiple problems of children raised by poor single mothers would not be cured by throwing money at them. Indeed, the skyrocketing of unwed motherhood began when government welfare programs began throwing money at teenage girls who got pregnant.

Children born and raised without fathers are a major problem to society and to themselves. There is nothing "fair" about increasing the number of such children.

A more fundamental problem with the "fairness" issue raised by Beckel and many others is the slippery vagueness of the word "fair."

What better symbol is there for liberal violence than the “Occupy” movement, endorsed by President Obama and plagued by rape, disease, defecation and vile threats of assault and murder? These marching, mindless, ravening hordes, these entitled thugs, epitomize where and to what lib rule is driving us.

All lib violence has as its common denominator the desire to make you do something against your will. Democrats and left-wingers salivate at the thought of making you do what they say. They will impoverish you, imprison you, ruin you as totally and as thoroughly as they can, if you oppose them. This is the very definition of initiated force, a concept that runs counter to every instinct and consequence of a free society. It is for this reason that political liberalism, accompanied as it always is by the irresistible compulsion to force your fellow men to obey you, is completely antithetical to the United States Constitution.

Hollywood Should 'Just Say No' to Drugs

Another tremendously talented American who had riches and fame beyond most people's dreams has killed herself with drugs. Whitney Houston's life was wrecked and cut tragically short at 48 because she became mired in the self-destructive hell of drug use.

In the late 1970s my birth brother was living in L.A. and working as a writer on "Laverne & Shirley," the number one-rated TV show in the country. It was pretty heady stuff for a 21-year-old kid from Ohio.

I remember him telling me how cocaine and other drugs were becoming increasingly popular with the creative crowd in Hollywood at the time.

He had more money than God and he found himself facing a tough choice: Put his money up his nose like everyone else or leave town.

He chose to leave. Many other young people we know never made the right choice with drugs and their lives ended like Houston's.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing for Wednesday, Feb 15, 2012

Welcome to this edition of Time 2 Escape WIFLI!

What is WIFLI?

I quickly learned that putting these issues together on a daily basis was a task I was unable to accomplish. Putting together a post on this blog WIFLI works much better for my schedule, and for the higher quality of each issue that is eventually published!
If this keeps up, I may require intervention. In my quest for all the news I can find outside of what mainstream media allows us to see and hear, I keep finding more and more troubling stories. When I start checking out the news sites I frequent WIFLI (see above), I usually have no problem stumbling on yet more stress inducing scoops. But wait, maybe there is a reason for that.

There is a reason why many people I know are pretty much oblivious to things going on in the world and this country. I think they have decided that they can live a less stressful life by not noticing or caring what is going on outside of their own lives. Who can blame them?

Well, unfortunately, for those of us that want America to remain free, I guess those that stay ignorant of all that is going on, especially right now, aren't really going to be informed enough to vote for the candidates next Fall that may give us a chance to maintain our freedom. Our only hope is that at least a few people out there that ignored the news in the past will wake up in time. Hopefully, many of those people will stumble across blog posts like this and decide that it's time to become informed.

In order to reduce the stress that may arise from reading the following stories and columns, I've added a couple things at the end of this post in OUTSIDE of the BOX that should help. Ironically, the Ralph Marston excerpt is called, "Drop the negativity." And in that famous song by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, Kate sings, "You worry too much...". But the theme in that song is, "Don't give up."


It does seem like we are being overwhelmed by the globalist conspiracy to take away our freedom, and how are we going to fight that? There's really only one way, and it may take generations before victory can be obtained. Stay informed and keep others informed, and refuse to ever give up. I'm just sayin'...

Covert ops have Israel placing ships in position
Thought to be posted to guide pre-emptive attack on nuclear infrastructure

WASHINGTON – Israel has dispatched a number of naval vessels – under cover – into the Arabian Sea, and they are moving into its northern regions, just off of Iran, a U.S. intelligence source has reported in Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

The Israeli vessels have been positioned at the mouth of the Gulf of Oman, which leads to the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has threatened to shut down that gateway to the Persian Gulf if further sanctions are imposed against its sale of oil and on its central bank.

Israel also has threatened a strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities out of concern that it is using them to develop nuclear weapons. Indeed, Iran just announced that it has achieved significant breakthroughs on a number of fronts in its nuclear enrichment program.

Such nuclear enrichment not only is needed to fuel Iran’s nuclear reactors but can be used for medical research and, if enriched to levels above 90 percent, can be used for nuclear weapons.

Israel assesses that Iran has enough low-grade-enriched uranium to make four nuclear weapons if the Islamic republic achieves technical breakthroughs in uranium enrichment beyond the 90-percent level.

New World Trade Center Site To Become Military Grade Police State Hub

Terrorists supposedly attacked the World Trade Center towers on 9/11 because they hated the freedoms of Americans. Now their ilk will be satisfied to learn that anyone in the vicinity of the new World Trade Center will have absolutely no freedoms whatsoever.

According to plans seen by The New York Post, The Port Authority is to deploy military grade security, unrivalled by anything currently used in any city in the world.

The agency is set to roll out chilling technology akin to that described in The Minority Report that will subject Americans to pre-crime interrogations and physiological scans to detect malintent.

The PA plans to install and operate science-fiction-like devices such as infrared and heat sensors that can be outfitted with explosive and radiation detectors.

In what it claims are efforts to protect the new somewhat ironically named “Freedom Tower”, the PA plans also call for sophisticated surveillance cameras that have built in facial and retina scanners. The cameras will be able to scan everyone in the vicinity and run their biometric features against government criminal databases and terrorist watch lists.

Here‘s the Video of a White House Adviser Talking About a ’Global Minimum Tax’

Two weeks ago, we told you some United Nations leaders were considering a proposal for a world tax to fund “social protection.” And now there’s video of a White House adviser saying “we need a global minimum tax.”

The video, from Monday, features Gene Sperling, the director of the White House Economic Council, speaking at a meeting about the budget being televised by CSPAN. From the video, he seems to be talking about what the president supports.

In an election about the economy, the culture wars make a comeback

The immortal campaign words from the 1990s, "It's the economy, Stupid," were thought to apply to the campaign season of 2012, too. But recent circumstances have re-ignited the culture wars and help to explain the sudden and unlikely rise of Rick Santorum, a Republican social conservative who was all but written off.

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, has ridden into a statistical tie with Mitt Romney, according to three recent national polls. His ascendancy largely is the result of four key controversies that have risen with uncanny timing to ignite a fire among evangelicals, Catholics and social conservatives.

They include the decision by the Obama administration, now amended, to require institutions run by the Roman Catholic Church to provide contraception coverage to female workers; the ruling by a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that overturns California's law banning gay marriage; the Pentagon's decision to open about 14,000 combat-related positions to women, and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation's decision to withdraw, then restore, grant money to Planned Parenthood.

"This is (Santorum's) bread and butter," says Nathan Gonzales of the Rothenberg Political Report. "Rick Santorum couldn't have manufactured this scenario, where he is in a dead heat with Mitt Romney."

Obama wants steep nuclear arms cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration is weighing options for sharp new cuts to the U.S. nuclear force, including a reduction of up to 80 percent in the number of deployed weapons, The Associated Press has learned.

Even the most modest option now under consideration would be an historic and politically bold disarmament step in a presidential election year, although the plan is in line with President Barack Obama's 2009 pledge to pursue the elimination of nuclear weapons.

No final decision has been made, but the administration is considering at least three options for lower total numbers of deployed strategic nuclear weapons cutting to: 1,000 to 1,100; 700 to 800, and 300 to 400, according to a former government official and a congressional staffer. Both spoke on condition of anonymity in order to reveal internal administration deliberations.

The potential cuts would be from a current treaty limit of 1,550 deployed strategic warheads.

A level of 300 deployed strategic nuclear weapons would take the U.S. back to levels not seen since 1950 when the nation was ramping up production in an arms race with the Soviet Union. The U.S. numbers peaked at above 12,000 in the late 1980s and first dropped below 5,000 in 2003.

Although Barack Obama is the first black president of the United States, he is by no means unique, except for his complexion. He follows in the footsteps of other presidents with a similar vision, the vision at the heart of the Progressive movement that flourished a hundred years ago.

Many of the trends, problems and disasters of our time are a legacy of that era. We can only imagine how many future generations will be paying the price – and not just in money – for the bright ideas and clever rhetoric of our current administration.

The two giants of the Progressive era – Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson – clashed a century ago, in the three-way election of 1912. With the Republican vote split between William Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt’s newly created Progressive Party, Woodrow Wilson was elected president, so that the Democrats’ version of Progressivism became dominant for eight years.

What Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson had in common, and what attracts some of today’s Republicans and Democrats, respectively, who claim to be following in their footsteps, was a vision of an expanded role of the federal government in the economy and a reduced role for the Constitution of the United States.

Patton: Just a Taste of a Second Obama Term

In a stunning exercise of raw, unconstitutional power, Barack Obama now tells people of faith that their rights do not come from God, as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence and the First Amendment to the Constitution, but rather from him. The right to practice one’s religion is now codified in the so-called Affordable Care Act of 2010, otherwise known as Obamacare.

Last week, Obama announced that religious organizations would be required to include birth control and abortifacient devices and medications in the health care plans they provide for their employees. When it became clear that America’s Christian leaders would not stand for this, Obama is said to have “backed down.” In reality, he did no such thing.

The Global Warming Hoax is Now Killing People

By Friday, February 10th, an estimated 500 Europeans had died from the freezing weather gripping the continent. This is the price they and British citizens are paying for embracing the global warming hoax, spending billions for wind power when they should have been building coal-fired and other sources of energy to heat their homes and businesses.

As the British daily, The Telegraph, reported on Friday, “Serbia has started implementing power cuts in a desperate bid to stave off the collapse of its national grid as the country suffers the effects of days of freezing temperatures.”

I and others have been warning for years that the Earth has been cooling since 1998 and that the planet is on the cusp of a new ice age because the average length of an interglacial period of warmth between such ages is now coming to an end after the passage of some 11,500 years.

All aspects of global warming legislation and spending programs must be utterly reversed if we are not going to see huge losses of life and the disruption of entire economies.

The Ottawa Citizen published an Agence France Presse article on Friday reporting that “Thick ice closed vast swaths of the Danube on Thursday, crippling shipping on Europe’s busiest waterway, as the death toll from bitter cold across the continent rose…as it has every day for nearly two weeks.” The report noted that “Navigation was impossible or restricted in Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria, as ice covered the river or formed dangerous floes in shipping lanes.”

No shipping means no delivery of coal and oil and no shipping of food and other necessities. Europe is freezing over as the United States has been experiencing an unusually mild winter thus far. That, too, is likely to yield to the increased cooling of the planet and then, maybe, Americans will realize the threat to their lives that the closing of coal-fired plants, instigated by the Environmental Protection Agency, really means.

Worries are worthless, so don’t bother with them. Resentment over a difficult situation actually makes that situation worse, so remind yourself there’s no point in it.

Occupied Nation ~ By Patrice Lewis

When one nation takes over another, that second nation is considered "occupied." That's currently the situation of We the People. We are occupied by the Government of America. An efficient parasite weakens and sucks blood from its host, but doesn't quite kill it. The Government of America has become a parasite on the body of the People of America.

And so this is why a thoughtful study of our founding documents is actively discouraged in government schools. Studying these documents puts students in opposition with the occupying force. The Declaration is considered inflammatory because students might recognize that the whole purpose of it was to put limitations on the Government, not to feed the beast.

Yet gullible parents continue to send their children into the lair of the beast. After all, "all experience hath shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed."

As we enjoy barbecues and fireworks on this Independence Day, let us ask ourselves whether we remain worthy of the gift of freedom our founders gave us. We will never regain our once-great status as a nation until Occupied America is freed. To that end we must pledge "our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

Hi, it's just me, John Kubicek, otherwise known as johnny2k. There are a few things that we need to discuss regarding this outstanding article by Patrice Lewis.
 

Who could argue with what Patrice writes in this commentary? As one reader, Deb Ross Mueller, says in her comment (the first one written for this column), "There's really nothing to say. Patrice is absolutely, completely, totally right. Only an ignoramus, a fool or a liar would disagree with her." I have to say that I must agree with Deb, being that in the last 24 hours, it has been difficult to find a way to expound on this outstanding column.

Patrice hit it on the nose by telling us how the schools weren't teaching the kids about our Declaration of Independence, and why they aren't. As I was saying, I found it difficult to find something to expound on with this column. While taking some more time to mull it over, I decided to watch the rest of Glenn Beck's last Fox News broadcast that I had recorded. That is when it hit me. There is actually something else that is important to consider!

When you read this column by Patrice, you will find some compelling elements that will illustrate the government's diabolical plan to dumb down the people's knowledge of America's founding documents, and it has been succeeding. There is definitely evidence that supports the argument that the government has a motive. If We the People don't know about the principles that this country was founded on, we would be apathetic about the gradual decay of our freedom. I think Obama called it "transformation."

What Glenn Beck's closing statements on June 30, 2011 reminded me of is that solving the problem is going to have to be up to us, We the People. We are pretty much stuck with a public indoctrination - sorry, I mean school - system, for now. Not every one can homeschool or send their kids to private schools. It seems that it is going to be up to us to educate ourselves, our children, and each other, at least for now. So, I guess that will have to mean making some sacrifices, to take time past the work and school day to teach your children what you believe that they need to know. It is truly a burden that we must be willing to bare in order to keep our freedom. We must rely on ourselves and each other in order to make this happen.

And in the mean time, there was a Harvard study that says that parades and fireworks for the Independence Day celebrations is just a bunch of Republican propaganda! I can not make that up, folks! I could prove it with video evidence, but I have something even better to show you for now. This is just part of what we are doing, and the social networks like Facebook are great tools to share INFORMATION.

Really, we can have a good laugh about the Harvard scholars that feel our celebration of freedom is just another right-wing mind-control plot... So, here's some great right-wing propaganda for you! Please enjoy the following video, and know that I am appealing to your emotions, as in the Patriotic Spirit, and why we love our freedom. I'm just sayin'...

I have a confession to make. Until I was an adult – as in, until a few years ago – I never completely read the Declaration of Independence.

Oh sure, I was familiar with the basics. I knew what it said … sort of. But somehow I just never got around to reading it.

This isn't surprising. I am, after all, a public skool gradjuate. And public schools, as everyone knows, hardly go around emphasizing such things.

But now that I'm a homeschooling mom, I was darned if my kids were going to be as ignorant as I was. Our children have grown up knowing America is unique due to its God-given freedoms. But now that our girls are teens, it was time to launch them into a serious study of the founding documents so they can understand just what those documents mean – and what they cost.

About this time a gentleman named Bruce Gordon approached me about advertising his self-published book on my blog. We told him we would have to review it first. When the book arrived, I was astounded at its clear and thorough coverage of the roots of our country's foundation, as well as its excellent study aids. It was the civics guide I was looking for.

So our girls have embarked on a comprehensive study, starting with the Declaration of Independence. They are memorizing key portions so that they always have the wording at their fingertips. Unlike me, I don't want them growing up ignorant about the importance of this document.

And the words therein are almost as beautiful and magnificent as the words in the Bible.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. …

Doesn't this just send chills down your spine?

Over the past two months, we have analyzed the Declaration line by line, word by word. The power and majesty of its language ring as clear and strong today as it did 235 years ago.

And because of this – that the Declaration is still applicable today – it is held in contempt and roundly despised by those in power, because our government officials know damned good and well they have equaled or even exceeded the atrocities of George III.

This explains, of course, why I was never taught the founding documents as a student. Public schools are agents of the United States government. And that government is no longer recognizable as the limited entity it was meant to be.

From pioneers to pansies ~ By Patrice Lewis

But if the government takes away the struggles, no lessons are learned. People will make the same mistakes over and over again because there are no consequences to those mistakes. Instead the "mistakes" become a way of life because, hey, they work.

In Wayne Allyn Root's sobering essay "Why the Greatest Depression of All Time Has Begun," he explains why a future economic crash would be endlessly worse than the Great Depression. "In 1929 children had hope for the future. Today they are hopeless, helpless and clueless – an entire generation that only knows drugs, gangs, rappers, government handouts, teen pregnancy – and it goes downhill from there."

Our only hope to regain our pride, our self-worth and our pioneer spirit is to roundly reject any and all government entitlements.

It's sink or swim time, folks. Laura would agree.

Despite the brutal heat (actually, it's not really all that bad today! I love it hot!), I was highly motivated to do some chores outside today. I am sure that this column by Patrice Lewis had something to do with it. I felt that pioneer spirit today. I felt the need to take care of my private property. I mowed the lawn, and am in the process of clearing out some overgrowth. It gives me a sense of pride. And that, my friends, is why entitlement programs will never work. There is no motivation to take care of property when you have no stake in it.

I could only conclude one thing this morning after reading this column, and then sweating it out in the process of the work I was doing: We can choose to let the government take care of us, or we can choose to get off our butts and work a little harder, and do the best we can with what we have. I choose the latter.

In this column, Patrice pointed out the obvious, but yet it probably isn't something we always keep in mind. We need to keep that pioneer spirit going, because it leads to freedom! The entitlement mentality leads to dependency, which ultimately results in slavery, the opposite of freedom.

Overcoming struggles and challenges makes us stronger. Imagine that! Okay, I could go on and on about some of the things that I had going through my mind while reading this wonderful piece! I'm just hoping that it will motivate you, too, to be a pioneer and a patriot, and not a pansie! I'm just sayin'...

Do you remember your Laura Ingalls Wilder books? I don't know about you, but these classic stories of a pioneer childhood give me a full-blown inferiority complex. Looking over what Laura's parents, Charles and Caroline (and later Laura and her husband) did in a normal day's work puts me to shame. With little more than a few hand tools and a lot of know-how, they created homes from bare dirt and grew their own food. They tried to depend on no one because often there was no one around to depend on. What they couldn't afford they did without. When they did borrow money, it often got them in trouble and they regretted it.

The Ingalls family tried never to be "beholden" to anyone. The only time they ever took a government handout was when they participated in the Homestead Act.

In the sequels to the "Little House" series, written by Rose Wilder Lane's heir, Roger Lea MacBride, Laura and her husband, Almanzo, moved to Missouri, bought land and spent many years making it into a productive farm. In these books, Laura speaks disparagingly about the Homestead Act. "It's a sin and a shame what the government in Washington did to folks, promising them free land," Laura says. "Free land indeed. It only shows that no good ever comes of getting something for nothing. It nearly ruined my pa, and look what it did to us. Every soul ought to pay his way in this world. It's the only honest and true way to live."

What would Laura have to say about the extensive welfare and entitlements rampant today?

In Thomas Sowell's column "Myths about the 'poverty-stricken,'" he says, "We don't need to send the country into bankruptcy, in the name of the poor, by spending trillions of dollars on people who are not poor, and who could take care of themselves. The poor have been used as human shields behind which the expanding welfare state can advance."

And why, any sane person should ask, would the government want to expand the welfare state? What good are millions of welfare people to the government? What kind of money trail should we follow?

"The goal," continues Sowell, "is not to keep the poor from starving but to create dependency, because dependency translates into votes for politicians who play Santa Claus. … 'Entitlement' is just a fancy word for dependency." [emphasis added]

I see this dependency as one of the major stumbling blocks against this country ever regaining the independent pioneer spirit we once possessed. Entitlements and the dependency it creates are bringing this nation to its knees, both financially and morally. Indeed, for millions of people, it has already done so.

RINOs beware ~ By Robert Ringer

In a column Robert Ringer wrote in May, 2010, he said:

The fact that so many people reading this article will find my comments to be extreme speaks only to how far down the road toward socialism we have traveled. We no longer respect property rights, especially when the property is a business. Generations have been brainwashed into believing that abstract notions such as "the good of society" and "social justice" are more important than private ownership.
This column by Ringer expands on the theme of property rights, and is a warning to Republicans that if they regain a majority in the House and Senate, they better not even think about going soft when progressives try to intimidate them into "backing off their true beliefs." Just sayin'...
I have great empathy for Rand Paul in this situation, because I know how difficult it can be when you're put on the spot on national television. But my concern is that too many conservatives and libertarian-centered conservatives are still allowing the left to intimidate them into backing off their true beliefs.

This is what concerns me if Republicans do actually take control of the House and Senate in November. What the tea parties signify more than anything else is that half or more of Americans are finally ready to hear the truth. And if Republicans are still not ready to give it to them, with boldness and without fear, they will be reviled long after our final liberties are lost.

When MSNBC's Rachel Maddow asked Rand Paul in an interview back in May if he believed that a private business should have the right to refuse to serve African-Americans, he correctly answered, "Yes." But he went on to say, "I'm not in favor of discrimination of any form."

With Republicans on the verge of taking congressional power away from the far left, we need to keep issues like this front and center so RINOs aren't given the opportunity to get back into a business-as-usual mode.

To a person who has progressive pudding jammed between his ears, Rand Paul's one-word answer and his follow-up comment contradict one another. You see, a pudding-filled brain cavity makes life simple. If someone believes a business owner has a right to refuse service to an African-American, that means he (the person who harbors such a belief) favors discrimination.

For the person addicted to a life of nonstop sports, junk TV and Outback Steakhouse, there is little time to intellectualize a serious issue like this. After all, that would require him to reject knee-jerk statements and think through the moral ramifications of the issue.

The real problem is that Maddow asked Paul the wrong question. It was what is commonly referred to as a loaded question. If you're going to be a serious supporter of liberty, you cannot allow yourself to be intimidated into answering loaded questions – i.e., questions based on a false premise or an implied false premise.

Here, the false premise was implied: If a business owner has the right to refuse service to someone, it automatically follows that that someone would be an African-American. It is, of course, an absurd assumption.

What if the owner of the business is an African-American? Like a white owner, a black owner has a right to do whatever he wishes with his business. The reason he possesses such a right is that his business is his property. The same is true when it comes to deciding whom he does and does not wish to service.

Skin color is irrelevant to those who believe in liberty. But to the far left, the so-called race card is like oxygen. For decades, progressives have suffered withdrawal symptoms as race has become less and less of an issue in the U.S. (Ironically, it is a brown man in the White House who has managed to rekindle racial tensions in America through his shameful, nonstop, racially charged rhetoric.)

If you want to discuss the subject of black progress in America, fine. We have millions of blacks who are doctors, dentists, lawyers, engineers, professors, military officers, politicians – even the president of the United States is an African-American! So let's all give ourselves – both whites and blacks – a big pat on the back for bringing about a post-racial era in America. End of discussion on that topic.

But if you want to discuss another topic – the sanctity of private property – I repeat what I said in my May 21 article about unionization: If one believes in the concept of private property – which all sane people of goodwill do – he is obliged to concede that an owner has a right to do anything he wishes with his own property.

As Thomas Sowell has so often pointed out, if an employer refuses to hire or serve people purely on a discriminatory basis, he does so at his own peril, because the marketplace will punish him. For example, speaking for myself, I would never give my business to a company or restaurant that refused to serve people of any specific race or ethnicity, and I think I can safely say that I'm in the majority on that one.
