Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing for Friday, Feb 24, 2012

Welcome to this edition of Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing!

What is WIFLI?
You may be wondering what the acronym "WIFLI" means. I started out by calling these issues the Time 2 Escape Daily, but that didn't work out very well. I quickly learned that putting these issues together on a daily basis was a task I was unable to accomplish. To replace "Daily" in the title, I coined the acronym WIFLI, which literally means "When I Feel Like It." Putting together a post on this blog WIFLI works much better for my schedule, and for the higher quality of each issue that is eventually published!
Sometime earlier yesterday, on Thursday morning, I knew I had a story to tell you.

I had found a link to a column where a British columnist/blogger had mentioned a weird thing that he noticed about Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. They seemed to gang up on Rick Santorum, but they never attacked each other. And then, I heard Rush Limbaugh put it all together. The story kept getting better and better. Like Rush said, there may have been more to it than the story that was broken by that British commentator, Toby Harnden.

You'll have to read further down this Briefing to find out what Rush Limbaugh said to make sense of it all.

In the meantime, I found so much material in my "show prep" notes, I ended up having to discard much of the potential material I had at my fingertips. Yes, it was good stuff, and it tugged at me to get into today's briefing, but it couldn't be done. The lineup was full, I could only put so many starters on the floor (a little basketball analogy there). I would still be working on this edition, and when done, you would still be reading when the polls open on November 6, 2012.

Sure, there is always more that I'd love to tell you about. The problem is that you are just like me and our time is limited. We can only soak up so much information at a time, and I am limited by time in gathering and including it. That, I believe, is the WIFLI experience. We can be quickly astonished by the amount of time it takes to be a sponge. But, hey, isn't that what keeps me working on this blog, and keeps you coming back for more? I'm just sayin'...

Audience Boos Contraception Question — Gingrich Then Slams Media Over Obama and ‘Legalized Infanticide’
From THEBLAZE ~ by Mytheos Holt ~ Posted on February 22, 2012 at 10:07pm

CNN Moderator John King got more than he’d bargained for Wednesday night when he asked the Republican candidates a question on contraception. The audience responded immediately with audible, angry booing, before Former Speaker Newt Gingrich seized the microphone and delivered another sharp rejoinder to King.

“I want to make two quick points, John. The first is there is a legitimate question about the power of the government to impose on religion activities which any religion opposes. That’s legitimate. But I just want to point out, you did not once in the 2008 campaign, not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide,” Gingrich said, to raucous applause.

Michael Savage: Santorum is right about Satan
'Someone who actually believes what he's talking about' can win White House
Exclusive ~ From WND ~ Published Feb 21, 2012
Rick Santorum
Comments unearthed from a 2008 speech about Satan’s influence on America made Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum the target of derision and mockery today, but talk-radio host Michael Savage contends the former Pennsylvania senator is right, and his beliefs should only help his chances for the White House this fall.

“I think Santorum is right, and I think that anyone who attacks him is not seeing this for what it is,” Savage told his radio audience.

Savage said he agrees that America is primarily a Christian nation, and its churches and synagogues are “filled with parishioners who are screaming for preachers and pastors and rabbis to speak the truth, and they’re not getting it.”

Forceful Santorum Fends Off Romney Attacks
From NEWSMAX ~ By Paul Scicchitano ~ Wednesday, 22 Feb 2012 10:00 PM

The final four GOP presidential candidates came out swinging Wednesday night on earmarks, the economy, healthcare and the automotive bailout in the 20th and final debate before the decisive Super Tuesday contests.

Much of the jabs were directed at the unlikely new front-runner — former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who is fresh off a triple-play of victories in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri.

Asked by CNN moderator John King why he ran an ad accusing Santorum of being a “fake,” feisty Texas Rep. Ron Paul retorted, “Because he’s a fake.”

Paul went on to attack Santorum’s support for the No Child Left Behind legislation, which he now plans to repeal if elected president.

“I find it really fascinating that when people are running for office they’re really fiscally conservative,” charged Paul. “When they’re in office they do something different. Then, when they explain themselves, they say ‘oh I want to repeal that.’ ”

"Look, politics is a team sport, folks," Santorum said of the measure backed by Republican President George W. Bush and other GOP lawmakers. "I voted for that; it was against the principles I believe in, but I did that to help the team. Sometimes you have to take one for the team."

Santorum campaign suggests Mitt Romney may have done deal to make Ron Paul his running mate
Via WND ~ From MailOnline ~ Toby Harnden's Blog ~ 23 February 2012 4:56 AM

After tonight's debate, in which Ron Paul and Mitt Romney repeatedly attacked Rick Santorum over his 16-year record in Congress, the former US Senator for Pennsylvania hinted that something nefarious was going on.

"You have to ask Congressman Paul and Governor Romney what they've got going together," Santorum told reporters in the spin room in Mesa, Arizona. "Their commercials look a lot alike and so do their attacks."

Santorum's top strategist John Brabender went even further, charging that the two men had "joined forces" and were coordinating attacks against his man

"Clearly there's a tag team strategy between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. For all I know, Mitt Romney might be considering Ron Paul as his running mate. Clearly there is now an alliance between those two and you saw that certainly in the debate."

Senator Rand Paul first discussed his higher aspirations at the beginning of this year. He said he wouldn’t close the door on being a Vice Presidential candidate. After a speech in Louisville today, Paul held that door firmly open, saying he wants to be part of the national debate.

Rush: I Predicted a Romney-Paul Tag Team
From NEWSMAX ~ By Michelle Lopata ~ Thursday, 23 Feb 2012 01:54 PM

RUSH LIMBAUGH
Rush Limbaugh predicted a “meeting of the minds” between Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Ron Paul back in January but kept it to himself. Now that there is considerable speculation it might be a reality, he says he regrets his silence.

Limbaugh noted during his radio show on Thursday that he wrote his friends an email last month speculating that Romney and Paul may have struck an alliance to set up either the Texas congressman or his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, for the vice-presidential slot if the former Massachusetts governor became the GOP presidential nominee.

Limbaugh said that, in debate after debate, it was clear that the two candidates never “rip into each other.” Paul attacks everyone who happens to be the front-runner but never seems to go after Romney — and Romney never goes after Paul.

Following the Debate Wednesday night, The Daily Mail British newspaper ran a story about former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum suggesting a possible tag-team effort between his two rivals, and now Limbaugh is claiming he knew it all along.

How to win Republican nomination
Exclusive: Joseph Farah explains simple 'break out' strategy based on Ron Paul plan
From WND Commentary ~ By Joseph Farah ~ Published Feb 22, 2012

JOSEPH FARAH
I know how Rick Santorum can win the Republican nomination.

I’m not sharing any secrets with you I haven’t already shared with the former senator from Pennsylvania.

It’s really just a question of whether he will recognize the value of my advice and embrace it with the enthusiasm necessary to sell it to the American people.

By the way, if he doesn’t, the same idea can be used by either Mitt Romney or possibly even Newt Gingrich to secure the nomination – so time is short.

Everyone can see that grass-roots Republican voters are not yet excited about any single candidate for president. As of today, Santorum is polling nationally ahead of Romney. Gingrich and Ron Paul follow. No one has a commanding lead, and primary and caucus victories have been split.

So what’s the secret of breaking out?

It’s coming up with the bold domestic economic plan virtually all Republicans, most independents and even a strong plurality of Democrats will embrace.

And hey, how about a little discussion on WINNING THE CULTURE WAR? Again, Rick Santorum is the main player in this piece.

Parker: The Left's wins fuel Santorum surge
From GOPUSA Commentary ~ By Star Parker ~ Posted February 20, 2012 6:57 am

STAR PARKER
A succession of high profile left-wing decisions and initiatives of recent weeks drive home the extent to which the Left is changing the face of America.

Notable among these are the decision of a federal appeals court in California to uphold a prior court finding that California's Proposition 8, defining marriage as between a man and a woman, is unconstitutional; the reversal of a decision, because of a tsunami of left-wing pressure, of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to withdraw its funding to Planned Parenthood; and the Obama administration rulemaking refusing to grant a religious exemption from the new health care law employer mandate requiring provision of free contraception and sterilization services as part of health coverage.

These developments are, I think, helping to buoy the newly surging candidacy of Rick Santorum. Why?

Santorum stands out in the current Republican field in the clarity of his image and identity. There is little doubt about who the man is and there are no glaring inconsistencies between who he says he is today and his past behavior and positions.

So, if you are asking what is "fair," Thomas Sowell has an answer for you.

The 'Fairness' Fraud
From GOPUSA Commentary ~ By Thomas Sowell ~ Feb 22, 2012 6:55am

THOMAS SOWELL
During a recent Fox News Channel debate about the Obama administration's tax policies, Democrat Bob Beckel raised the issue of "fairness."

He pointed out that a child born to a poor woman in the Bronx enters the world with far worse prospects than a child born to an affluent couple in Connecticut.

No one can deny that. The relevant question, however, is: How does allowing politicians to take more money in taxes from successful people, to squander in ways that will improve their own reelection prospects, make anything more "fair" for others?

Even if additional tax revenue all went to poor single mothers -- which it will not -- the multiple problems of children raised by poor single mothers would not be cured by throwing money at them. Indeed, the skyrocketing of unwed motherhood began when government welfare programs began throwing money at teenage girls who got pregnant.

Children born and raised without fathers are a major problem to society and to themselves. There is nothing "fair" about increasing the number of such children.

A more fundamental problem with the "fairness" issue raised by Beckel and many others is the slippery vagueness of the word "fair."

Initiated force: Liberals' tool of control
Exclusive: Phil Elmore notes the State's 'willingness to use violence to bring you to heel'
From WND Commentary ~ By Phil Elmore ~ Published Feb 22, 2012

PHIL ELMORE
Liberals adore force. While they hate any firearms they do not wield, and they abhor the notion of self-defense and self-preservation (because leftist ideology is fundamentally self-destructive), they exult in making the other fellow toe the line. From cradle to grave, every waking moment of a man’s life must be controlled if that man is to make the “right” choices as dictated by a lib.

Leftists believe that individual freedom is a threat to all and that freedom of action must be curtailed. The means to make you do as they wish is violence, codified in complex laws and regulations and enforced by the jackbooted thugs of an all-powerful state.

What better symbol is there for liberal violence than the “Occupy” movement, endorsed by President Obama and plagued by rape, disease, defecation and vile threats of assault and murder? These marching, mindless, ravening hordes, these entitled thugs, epitomize where and to what lib rule is driving us.

All lib violence has as its common denominator the desire to make you do something against your will. Democrats and left-wingers salivate at the thought of making you do what they say. They will impoverish you, imprison you, ruin you as totally and as thoroughly as they can, if you oppose them. This is the very definition of initiated force, a concept that runs counter to every instinct and consequence of a free society. It is for this reason that political liberalism, accompanied as it always is by the irresistible compulsion to force your fellow men to obey you, is completely antithetical to the United States Constitution.

Hollywood Should 'Just Say No' to Drugs
From NEWSMAX ~ By Michael Reagan ~ Posted Wednesday, 22 Feb 2012 04:50 PM

Another tremendously talented American who had riches and fame beyond most people's dreams has killed herself with drugs. Whitney Houston's life was wrecked and cut tragically short at 48 because she became mired in the self-destructive hell of drug use.

In the late 1970s my birth brother was living in L.A. and working as a writer on "Laverne & Shirley," the number one-rated TV show in the country. It was pretty heady stuff for a 21-year-old kid from Ohio.

I remember him telling me how cocaine and other drugs were becoming increasingly popular with the creative crowd in Hollywood at the time.

He had more money than God and he found himself facing a tough choice: Put his money up his nose like everyone else or leave town.

He chose to leave. Many other young people we know never made the right choice with drugs and their lives ended like Houston's.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI for Friday, Feb 3, 2012

Let's start out with some great wisdom for you to ponder over this weekend. It's a great way to end the week for me, as it coincides perfectly with some life lessons I had this week:
The fulfillment you seek is something you must create as a result of your own responsibility, commitment, discipline and efforts. Get focused, get busy and experience the outstanding joy of living life on your own terms.

— Ralph Marston, from "On your own terms"
I only wish some of the GOP Presidential Pretenders, I mean contenders, would have taken the above advice. It seems that the other two candidates (Newt and Mitt) do not quite get it quite as well as do Ron Paul and Rick Santorum, who I give credit to for their commitment to their beliefs.  I'm just sayin'...

This curious flyer was handed out to students studying the history of the Cold War at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa.

What do you think the lesson was supposed to be?

From a flyer discovered by a parent of a student at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa

The CAPITALISM side of the flyer shows workers in tattered clothing, chained to a machine that delivers all of the money produced to a cigar-smoking man who is also much better dressed.

Over on the COMMUNISM side, there is no boss and the smiling workers are better dressed, don’t have chains on their legs and the money goes back to them.

This gem was discovered by Simon Conway of Iowa’s Who Radio. A listener who is a parent of a student at the high school, sent the hand out to the radio host.

Iran Vows Support to Anyone Confronting ‘Cancerous’ Israel
From THEBLAZE.com ~ Posted on February 3, 2012 at 12:32pm by Buck Sexton

(Supreme Dictator of Iran!)

He also said in remarks delivered to worshippers at prayers in Tehran and broadcast on state TV that the country would continue its controversial nuclear program, and warned that any military strike by the U.S. would only make Iran stronger.

Khamenei also warned that Tehran would reveal a letter that it says U.S. President Barack Obama sent the Iranian leadership in an attempt to end the nuclear stand-off. He said it shows that the Americans cannot be trusted. The White House has denied that such a letter exists.

Iranian officials have consistently reacted defiantly to indications by the U.S. and Israel that they might at some point take military action against Iranian nuclear facilities.

Ron Paul: Ahead of his time
Pat Buchanan agrees that foreign 'freeloaders' should defend themselves for a change
From WND Commentary ~ By Patrick Buchanan ~ Published Feb 2, 2012

Patrick Buchanan
After his fourth-place showing in Florida, Ron Paul, by then in Nevada, told supporters he had been advised by friends that he would do better if only he dumped his foreign policy views, which have been derided as isolationism.

Not going to do it, said Dr. Paul to cheers. And why should he?

Rep Ron Paul (R-TX)
Observing developments in U.S. foreign and defense policy, Paul’s views seem as far out in front of where America is heading as John McCain’s seem to belong to yesterday’s Bush-era bellicosity.

Consider. In December, the last U.S. troops left Iraq. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta now says that all U.S. combat operations in Afghanistan will end in 18 months.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI for Thursday, Jan 19, 2012

It was driving me crazy in the last few days, knowing that there was so much I wanted to get posted on this blog. I thought it was going to be a Tuesday (Jan 17) "WIFLI" issue when I was finally was able to start on this late Monday night. By Tuesday morning, I still had more work to do on this post, but snow was on my driveway that needed to be removed, and I had some paperwork that I needed to get done. I ran out of time. Well, no problem... "I'll get 'er done Wednesday," I was thinking. I found some more compelling stories to add to this post after doing a lot of reading and listening to talk radio, and again, I ran out of time.

So, you see, it wasn't really a case of "when I feel like it" (WIFLI) this week, but more like OPTDW (Other Priorities To Deal With... aren't acronyms awesome?), along with getting the right information that I could find for you to dive into this week.

Here it is, finally; another great WIFLI issue for you to consume. At first, you may not see a relationship between any of the articles/blogs that I've included in this issue. However, there is something that ties it all together. The clue is in the John Stossel column ("Who should stay home Election Day"). I have no doubt that even some of my most loyal readers, many whom are Conservatives and/or Republicans, have not heard anything about a couple of the stories that I included today.

At one time, the fact that there was a great lack of awareness among the American public upset me greatly. I felt it was because people didn't care, and that doesn't ever end well. Apathy and freedom usually don't go hand in hand. Just ask those colonists that felt we needed to declare our independence from the British so that we could be free...

But now, I think I'm beginning to understand. And in my prayers every day, I've asked God to give me the resolve to not only keep learning, but also to give me the ability to bring about more awareness of the dangers this country is facing, and the strength to keep trying to inform people, even when it seemed nobody was listening.

After about five years of writing and working on my blogs, listening to several hours of talk radio every day, I finally prayed that I could forgive those that aren't in tune with all that is facing this country, and the world, for that matter. I had to get used to the fact that the "rest of us have lives. We are busy with things other than politics."

Per John Stossel, as you will read below, very few people take the time to access all of the information that is available. Not that many people even bother to vote. Stossel doesn't feel that is such a bad thing, if the electorate has very little idea about the issues, let alone all of the angles involved in each issue. Some people can't even identify pictures of Newt or Mitt.  (I'm just happy that John Walsh has people that watch AMW and CAN identify people that are on the most wanted lists!)

The part of doing this blog as a top priority in my life was due to wanting to help preserve our freedom. However, my friend Ralph Marston woke me up with his Daily Motivator you will see below, where he writes: "As soon as you let go of the want, you begin to see, to feel and to make positive use of the very real connections between you and whatever you envision." I think that explains everything I'm doing. I'm just sayin'...

Keystone XL pipeline to be rejected by Obama administration
From POLITICOPro.com ~ By DARREN GOODE | 1/18/12 11:51 AM EST ~ Via WND
TransCanada's planned route potent symbol in battle over U.S. energy policy

The State Department on Wednesday will reject the Keystone XL pipeline, multiple sources following the project told POLITICO.

The formal announcement is expected at 3 p.m. from Deputy Secretary of State William Burns. Although the permit would be rejected, TransCanada would still be allowed to continue to work on and pitch an alternative route through Nebraska.

Republicans in Congress and on the campaign trail have endlessly attacked President Barack Obama for putting environmental interests and the green lobby ahead of a project that they say would create thousands of jobs. Republicans scored a rare win this Congress by including a 60-day deadline for Obama to make a decision on the pipeline as part of the year-end deal on extending the payroll tax holiday.

But administration officials have been clear from the beginning that forcing a decision within 60 days would not yield enough time to make a final decision and that Republicans were doing so merely to create a new set of political talking points.

Romney put on defense at South Carolina debate, as GOP rivals fight for edge in state primary
From FoxNews.com ~ via WND ~ Published January 16, 2012

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Mitt Romney was put on defense out of the box at Monday night's Republican presidential primary debate -- answering questions about his record at private venture firm, Bain Capital; distancing himself from super PAC ads against fellow candidates; defending his record as Massachusetts governor, and dodging demands that he release his tax records.

But Romney fired back against the onslaught, saying he is proud of his record in business and as governor.

"We were fortunate to have an unemployment rate by the time I left office of 4.7 percent. Sounds pretty good today," Romney said. "And I was also proud of the fact that we balanced the budget every year I was in office. We reduced taxes 19 times, put in place a rainy day fund of over $2 billion by the time I left."

Still, with his rivals running out of time to make the case they are a viable and "conservative" alternative to the front-runner, the attacks were fast and furious.

Prizefight to watch: ‘Obama v. Arpaio’
Exclusive: Jerome Corsi explains Alinsky tactics being used against popular lawman
From WND Commentary ~ By Jerome R. Corsi ~ January 16, 2012

The front lines of the continuing Obama eligibility battle are being fought not in Washington, D.C., or before the U.S. Supreme Court, but in Maricopa County, Ariz.

Jerome R. Corsi
What is shaping up is an epic political battle in which the Obama White House has decided to launch a full-scale assault against local Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

In other words, the national battle on both illegal immigration and on the Obama birth certificate is rapidly coming down to a local duel that can be properly billed much like a heavyweight prizefight, as “Obama v. Arpaio.”

Moreover, it appears the White House has set February as the month Arpaio has either to comply with the Department of Justice demands, or face Eric Holder in federal court.

This is not coincidental.

February is also the month in which Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse will release it’s law enforcement report on Obama’s birth certificate and his eligibility to be president under Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution.

John Stossel hopes 'ignorant people' don't bother to cast ballots
From WND Commentary ~ By John Stossel ~ Published Tuesday, Jan 17, 2012

This is one reason I say those “get out the vote” drives are dumb. I take heat for saying that, but Bryan Caplan agrees. He’s a professor of economics at George Mason University and author of “The Myth of the Rational Voter: Why Democracies Choose Bad Policies.

“A lot of bad policies … pass by popular demand,” Caplan told me. “In order to do the right thing, you have to know something.”

The “informed citizen” is the ideal of democratic societies, but Caplan points out that average citizens have no incentive to become informed, while special interests do. The rest of us have lives. We are busy with things other than politics. That’s why our democratic government inflates the price of sugar through trade restrictions, even though American sugar consumers far outnumber American sugar producers.

This Is How They Do It
From johnny2k Is Home ~ By John Kubicek ~ Monday, September 19, 2011

There will be one thing that will be apparent to you in a very short amount of time: President Obama will find a way to make the bad economy be for his advantage in November of 2012. Obama is in the process of making sure that Republicans and rich people get the blame for how bad things are going, even with all of the stupid ideas the Democrats and progressives have come up with that have failed.

It's Class Warfare 101. It's a trap, and Republicans can hardly avoid falling into it! It really isn't that difficult, is it? Obama's proposals to stimulate the economy with further spending and higher taxes will be a none-starter in the House, controlled by the Republicans. There are doubts that even the Senate will give Obama's plan a chance. When the economy totally fails, as it will pretty soon, Obama's propaganda arm in the media will reiterate the White House claims that it was because the Republicans refused to act on Obama's plan.

There will be anger out there amongst the potential voters in 2012 due to the fact that things are going so bad. The Democrats, especially those occupying the White House, are fully depending on the anger being directed towards wealthier Americans, which then will be extended to mean the Republican Party. It really wouldn't be that difficult for "the masses" to be influenced to direct their disgust toward those that we know as the Capitalists.

Stop focusing your thoughts on wanting things, because whatever you want, by definition, you do not have. Instead, put your thoughts, your energy and your efforts into more fully manifesting and enjoying what you already do have, which is everything.

When your thoughts are focused on want, those thoughts build a wall of separation between you and life’s immense abundance. As soon as you let go of the want, you begin to see, to feel and to make positive use of the very real connections between you and whatever you envision.

Quit telling yourself you don’t have it, and begin realizing that you can already start to experience it. Look at your most treasured dream not as something you hope to achieve someday, but as something that is already unfolding right now as a result of your actions.

Time 2 Escape Daily for Wednesday, Jan 4, 2012

I did something different last night. I went for a walk. It was just a block or two, and I had a destination in mind. My precinct caucus was held last night and I attended. It was such a sacrifice, too, being that I had to walk somewhere while the weather was being so gentle to us Eastern Iowans (it hasn't snowed YET in Cedar Rapids!).

For months, I was hoping to be the speaker for Herman Cain. The speakers for Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum were announced... Wait, what about the other candidates? I asked the caucus leader if I could say anything about Herman Cain. My request was rejected. It was then that I made my statement, in front of 87 people: "Why not?" Sure, that looks like a question, but really, it was a statement. I could have mentioned anyone, actually, not just Herman Cain. I could have mentioned Sarah Palin or Chris Christie; the statement would still have the same meaning. Who decides/decided what Republicans really want in a candidate to run against the incumbent in the White House? Maybe that explains how Santorum only lost by 8 votes overall in Iowa against the guy the GOP and media elite really want.

Of course, the first caucus in the country wasn't the only news that kept me awake too long last night. The Iranian saber-rattling is unsettling. Building a nuke, threatening to shut off the oil spigot by blocking the Strait of Hormuz... Well, it is all the more reason why who is chosen to be President next November is all important right now. We will need a Commander-in-Chief that we can depend on to protect our freedom. Is our current President up to the task?

In the mean time, many of us are asking what we need to do to live a better life. And the two stories that I included today are right on the money, because it really comes down to having the personal freedom to do what you can to be successful. Think about that! Because I love you, I'm just sayin'...

The News Stories:

Mitt Romney Squeaks Out Narrow Victory in Iowa
From Newsmax.com ~ By Martin Gould ~ Tuesday, 03 Jan 2012 10:20 PM

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won the Iowa GOP caucus early Wednesday morning by just eight votes after an intense three-way battle throughout Tuesday evening that underscored the depth of opposition to him within the Republican Party.

The race had shaped up as a two-way dead heat between Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum with Iowa GOP chairman Matt Strawn announcing Romney’s victory shortly after 2:30 EST. The final vote total for Romney was 30,015 to Santorum’s 30,007.

The decision Tuesday night by Iowa Republican caucus-goers followed 354 days of campaigning and an estimated 900 events, according to Iowa officials. Candidates spent the final days of campaigning before the first-in-the-nation vote in one last-gasp scramble, traveling from town to city.

The vote was so close that Romney could not effectively claim a decisive victory, especially as Santorum’s dramatic effort suggested the depth of the “anyone-but-Romney” movement within in the GOP. Santorum wasn’t even considered a viable candidate 10 days ago. READ MORE

Gingrich Praises Santorum in Defeat
From Newsmax.com ~ By Paul Scicchitano ~ Tuesday, 03 Jan 2012 11:19 PM

With a likely fourth-place finish in Iowa, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich vowed to continue his campaign at least through the New Hampshire primary.

I am delighted to be here tonight and I think that we are at the beginning of an extraordinarily important campaign,” Gingrich told supporters with wife Callista by his side.

The ultimate goal of this campaign has to be to replace Barack Obama and get America back on the right track. But let’s be clear: one of the things which became obvious in the last few weeks in Iowa is that there will be a great debate in the Republican Party before we are prepared to have a great debate with Barack Obama.

Gingrich congratulated former Sen. Rick Santorum not only on his apparent victory in Iowa, but for waging “a great, positive campaign “ in sharp contrast to his words for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney whom he described as a “liar” earlier in the day for a slew of negative advertisements, many of which were directed at Gingrich. READ MORE

Iranian War Drums
From FrontPageMag.com ~ By Stephen Brown ~ Jan 4th, 2012

After threatening only days ago to close the Strait of Hormuz, through which twenty percent of the world’s oil supplies moves, the Iranian government has once again engaged in ominous sabre-rattling.

The mullah regime’s latest threat involves a warning to the United States on Tuesday not to send its naval task force group, headed by the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, back to the Persian Gulf. The Stennis had already left Gulf waters last week en route to the Afghan war theater and is now “somewhere between Oman and Pakistan.”

I advise, recommend and warn them [the Americans] over the return of this carrier to the Persian Gulf because we are not in the habit of warning more than once,” Iranian Army Chief Ataollah Salehi reportedly stated.

The reason for Iran’s latest bellicose outburst is that the Obama administration is implementing a strict set of sanctions that could seriously damage, even topple, the Iranian government. The latest punitive measures are being imposed because Iran is still refusing, despite worldwide condemnation, to give up its nuclear weapons program. The fact Iran may be as little as a year away from developing its first nuclear weapon accounts for the sanctions’ severity. The International Atomic Energy Commission also reported recently that Iranian scientists are “working to design a nuclear warhead.READ MORE

Columnists and Their Commentaries:

Ron Paul’s Soros Defense Plan
From FrontPageMag.com ~ By Daniel Greenfield ~ Jan 2nd, 2012

It was recently observed that Ron Paul was to the left of Obama on national security and the best evidence for that statement can be found when one year ago Ron Paul joined forces with Barney Frank on a proposal to gut national defense via a panel of experts, quite a few of whom were tied to George Soros.

In July 2010, Barney Frank and Ron Paul co-authored a Huffington Post article rolling out their Sustainable Defense Task Force. The Task Force “consisting of experts on military expenditures that span the ideological spectrum” would recommend a trillion dollars in defense cuts. The experts, however, didn’t quite “span the ideological spectrum” — more like float under it.    READ MORE

I love greed ~ By Walter Williams
Walter E. Williams explains the beauty, necessity of 'enlightened self-interest'
From WND ~ Jan 3, 2012

WALTER E. WILLIAMS
Free-market capitalism is relatively new in human history. Prior to the rise of capitalism, the way people amassed great wealth was by looting, plundering and enslaving their fellow man. Capitalism made it possible to become wealthy by serving one’s fellow man. Capitalists seek to discover what people want and then produce it as efficiently as possible. Free-market capitalism is ruthless in its profit-and-loss discipline. This explains much of the hostility toward free-market capitalism; some of it is held by businessmen. [Adam] Smith recognized this hostility when he said, “People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.” He was hinting at government-backed crony capitalism, which has come to characterize much of today’s businesses. Made to make a difference ~ By Ralph Marston
From The Daily Motivator ~ Tuesday, January 3, 2012

This Daily Motivator seems to go well with Walter Williams' column, "I love greed" (see above).

Doing only what is easy and convenient, comfortable and free of challenge, doesn’t get you very far. Chasing after something for nothing ends up getting you nothing of real value.

In order to experience true fulfillment in any undertaking, you must invest yourself in it. It is your active participation and contribution to life that makes it so good to live.

If you continually take the easy way out, avoiding effort, challenge and commitment, you’ll end up being very disappointed. You are made to make a difference, so embrace every opportunity to do so.

9 responses to 9 false attacks on 9-9-9 ~ By Herman Cain

[This post has been updated and revised on October 21, 2011.  Three videos were added and my commentary has been revised.]

After seeing the latest GOP debate for Republican hopefuls on CNN Tuesday night (Oct 18, 0211), this column seemed to be very relevant. I noticed several of the contenders seemed to have some erroneous information about Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan.

I want to give Herman Cain a hat tip for his ability to handle the criticism, especially when some of the criticism was not based on facts.  In the videos below, what really made me wince was that small fact that Michele Bachmann wasn't truthful, or she was just plain ignorant of what Cain's 9-9-9 plan does.

The other candidates didn't do much better.  I could tell that it was an attempt to take Herman Cain down, and out of the lead for the nomination.  Newt Gingrich was the only other candidate that gave Mr. Cain some credit for his 9-9-9 plan.  Only thing is, Newt, like all the other candidates, said his "plan" was better, yet it was saying pretty much the same thing as Herman Cain is trying to do!

CNN Western Republican Presidential Debate - Candidates attack Herman's 9-9-9 plan - Part 3:

Now that you have watched the above videos, be sure to read the complete column. Keep in mind that the column was published two days before the debate.

But do not be surprised if Herman Cain revises the 9-9-9 plan - or gives a better explanation of how it works - as we move closer to the primaries and caucuses. I think there are some questions about it. As Herman Cain well knows, flexibility is an asset as a CEO, and as a President. I'm just sayin'...

Do you know why candidates for office tend to be reluctant to propose detailed plans? Because they know the plans will be flyspecked and picked apart by just about everyone. Inviting criticism doesn't help you to get votes.

But fear of criticism prevents you from conceiving solutions to problems. So even if avoidance of criticism helps in propelling you to an election victory, how are you supposed to effectively govern? How are you supposed to fix the problems you told everyone you were going to fix?

That's why I'm happy to see so much criticism of the 9-9-9 plan I've proposed. It shows that people are thinking seriously about a substantive idea. When people stop obsessing over "gaffes" and campaign strategy, and start honing in on fixing the country's economic problems, we are getting somewhere.
