To the Fallen Heroes! (My last New Years message this year?)

My last blog of the year. To all of the Veterans, past and present, I honor you. With the following video, this is my salute to you all! While I had wished many of my friends and fellow journalists a Happy New Year in several recent blogs, this is the one that is actually the most important. Without our military, we may not have the right to write.

Political Affirmative Action - By Kevin Jackson (at The Black Sphere blog)

From theblacksphere.blogspot.com — The liberal way of getting through any scandal or problem ...
So would you want to be Roland Burris today in light of Blagojevich naming him to Obama's vacant senate seat? He must feel like the Michelle Obama, who got into Princeton based solely on affirmative action. Can't you just hear the whispers as Burris walks the halls of the Capital Building? "That's the guy who 'paid' to get his seat. He didn't actually 'earn' it." Or, "…he's different than us." Well not really. And the cojones of liberals. Blagojevich was arrested, got out of jail on his own recognizance. He went back to work, and it's been "business as usual" since. And for Chicago politics, it was indeed "business as usual", and just another day in the governor's office. [Continue reading]

My 2009 resolutions - By Janet Porter

Janet writes, "I still need to write my new year's resolutions ... and a WND article. I'm all about multi-tasking, so this year I'm going to attempt to do both at once. That way, I have between 10,000 and 20,000 accountability partners who read this and may want to join me, at least in part." I just want to tell Janet, I know the feeling! To continue on, Janet writes:

A lot of people don't make resolutions because they have a poor track record of keeping them. One thing's for sure, if you don't set a goal, you're sure not to make it. I also think there's great value in writing them down. Habakkuk 2:2-3 says: Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. [Continue reading]

Some Christians see red over 'Green' Bible

The dirty little secret about the 'N' word - By Jesse Lee Peterson

A story written by Jesse Lee Peterson, and posted at WND on August 06, 2008:

Most blacks understand that the worst thing you can call a white person these days is a "racist." And in the minds of white Americans, the worst term a white person can use to describe a black is the "N" word. So blacks want to keep the word around and play with it, tempting whites to try and use it.

Oprah's weight and Obama's foodorama - by Chuck Norris

Chuck's words of wisdom: Don't ever quit striving to better yourself each and every year. Don't ever stop growing. Develop yourself to the maximum of your potential in all ways. Or as Benjamin Franklin put it, "Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man." So, don't ever stop trying. Yes, I went to extremes to write such a great synopsis of the Chuck Norris story when I submitted it to digg.com this morning (see above). There was a whole lot of information to try to condense into 350 characters. Well, that digg story description just does not do his great column any justice. I know that Chuck went all-out in putting this one together, on the Christmas holiday weekend, no less! So, my job here is to provide you with a reason to read his great piece today. He obviously did a lot of research based on the number of links that he provides in this story. His humorous wit rose higher than any leg kick he could ever do. So, before my gushing causes any further man-made global warming, let me bring you a little bit of his writing:
According to a new USA Today/Gallup Poll, Obama is the man Americans admire most. And that fixation has focused recently upon his fitness, which some say contributed even to his victory in the election. Men's Fitness even deemed him twice (in 2005 and 2008) among the 25 fittest men in America." Many present Obama's diet as one more reason why he should be our nation's supreme leader, for, they say, even it points to his rags to regal road to the White House (In "Dreams from My Father, " Obama tells the story how he ate grasshopper, dog and snake while living in Indonesia as a child). Those who doubt Obama's pro-organic positions are referred to an array of nutritional news stories, blogs, photos and video streams of him eating, golfing, playing basketball, working out at the gym, etc. Last week one of the largest Internet searches was sneaking a peak of the hearty and shirtless president-elect on the beach at his $9 million dollar Hawaiian holiday getaway. There's even a website committed to every possible link between food, drinks and Obama – Obamafoodorama, including Barack's favorite trail mix and his beer of choice, the "audacity of hops." Abe and Mary Todd Obama - by Doug Powers

From the soon to be famous "Leftysburg Address": "Four community organizers and seven friends thrown under the bus ago, George Soros brought forth to these 58 states, a socialist nation, conceived in secret, and dedicated to the proposition that all the wealth should be spread around and nobody should be punished with a baby..." Obama is no Abe Lincoln! From the article:
Just about the only valid comparisons I can find between Lincoln and Obama is that Abraham Lincoln didn't have a middle name, and for a long time the Obama campaign and the media pretended Obama didn't have one either. Also, both Lincoln and Obama facilitated emancipation. We all know about Lincoln's role in ending slavery – either as a primary objective or a byproduct of the end result of the Civil War, but Obama also played a role in emancipating many, many people. Because of Obama's pro-abortion stance, he has helped ensure that thousands and thousands of children are never enslaved. Joe Biden's vague resemblance to Lincoln's second VP, Andrew Johnson (pictured above), doesn't hurt either. [Continue reading]

More gun shows = fewer murders - by Joseph Farah

With a new Congress and Obama taking office next month, you're bound to hear more calls for closing the "gun-show loophole" that permits citizens in many states to buy guns without ridiculous and counterproductive waiting periods. There will be an all-out effort to renew the slow, plodding, incremental, long-term goal of banning and restricting the sale of as many firearms as possible. It will likely start with gun shows – one of the easiest targets of the gun-grabbers. (Guns shows = easy target.) And here is what Joseph Farah wrote that grabbed me:
Criminals seek out victims who are not going to fight back or offer resistance, let alone shoot them. Guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens means they are less likely to become victims. Anyone who disagrees with this simple, straightforward logic should be required to post a sign on the outside of their home or office that says: "Gun-free zone." So far, I have not seen even one private citizen invite criminals into their home with such a ridiculous sign. Instead, governments post them around schools! [Continue reading]

This spud's for you - Michael Ackley's satire and parody

We bid a reluctant but fond farewell to the International Year of the Potato... What? You didn't know this has been the Year of the Potato? Even though we have neglected those special 12 months, we all can pay appropriate homage in 2009 and in a special way. There is somebody that resembles Mr. Potato Head, who will be in the news often...
Think of the past year. What has dominated our news, indeed, this column? Why, the presidential election, of course, and, in particular, Barack Obama. Obama was everywhere, his visage appearing on every magazine cover from the Atlantic to Render, the organ of the tallow industry. (Actually, we don't know if the president-elect actually made the cover of Render, but we thought you'd like to know that the tallow industry does have its own slick publication, through which you can learn about the latest in bone grinders and fat boilers – with tasteful illustrations.) Anyway, there was something about Obama's image that nagged at us, something familiar, an echo of our childhood. It was something – no disrespect intended – about those ears, the way they set off the face. It was something about those eyebrows. Finally, that something became clear as we examined our notes for the neglected, seminal topic of the year 2008. Obama bears a striking resemblance to one of the most enduring diversions of childhood. He's better looking, of course, but a kind of familial correspondence definitely is there. He resembles a slender version – and we say this with affection – of the iconic toy, Mr. Potato Head. [Continue reading]

Time to Escape!

by John Kubicek Time to Escape? What a sick, twisted irony it is, to have named this blog, "Blogging in Our Time 2 Escape." For me, that is, there is no escape.
The journal of journals where you can find out what johnny2k and his patriotic friends have been up to! And you know what is so good about this? I'm finding out how to be a good community organizer. Oooohhhh, yeah. It's possible to be a Conservative community organizer. We can do it, too!
I do not know for sure it is understood what my mission is in this blog. Yes, I'd like to have many visitors, just like any other blogger. But, it is not for me, not for my benefit. It is for the reason that I AM doing this blog; it is to promote ALL of us that want to make a difference in this world. But, of course, I have a partisan purpose, too. Make no mistake, I have my own agenda that I want to promote. Of course, my promotional efforts can in no way measure up to the amount of propaganda that is offered by the mainstream media, the public school systems, the colleges and universities, Hollywood, politicians... However: Let's put this dream in some perspective. One at a time. Know what I'm saying? Not the quickest way to change a culture, but it will have to do for the lack of my noteriety. There is a goal or two that I would like to reach in this effort, in the remaining days of 2008. I'd like to see the 5,000 page views on this blog before the year runs out. As of now, that's less than 200 views that it will take to achieve that goal. It's possible. We can do it, but there are only three days left of the year. And please remember it is not for me, but for all of the people that offer us valuable insights in their blogs, or even their comments on sites like digg.com. Reaching that goal really will depend on you. But the other goal I'd like to reach is up to me. Last month, I had posted 143 articles. Counting this piece, I am now up to 119. I'd like to top that 143 mark this month, but it will take an extreme effort. I'll do my best, but I can't guarantee anything. In order to make that goal, it will be required to sacrifice doing some things that only offer ME a time to escape. Again, that is the irony of the title of this blog. We want the government to give us stuff for free, stuff like health care and housing, food and employment. These are things that earlier generations knew were our own personal responsibility to provide for ourselves.

Instead we prefer to whine and gripe and moan our way to socialism because we've become a nation of professional victims.

Patrice continues on:
To quote this YouTube clip, everything is amazing right now and nobody's happy. We live in an incredible world, and it's wasted on us. How quickly we have come to think the world owes us something. Why are we no longer falling down in gratitude for our prosperity and relative affluence? [Continue reading]

Apparently Liberalism is a Psychological Disorder

The following story was posted at WorldNetDaily.com on November 12, 2008
WASHINGTON – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder. "Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave." While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy." For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago. [Continue reading]

Funniest news stories of 2008 - by Joe Kovacs

By Joe Kovacs of WorldNetDaily.com Hi again, everyone! It's time to look back at 2008, the year when "billions" and "trillions" became commonplace – not just in news about financial bailouts, but also the amount of times John McCain uttered, "My friends," not to mention the estimated number of plastic plugs in Joe Biden's scalp. It's shoetime! Let's get the shoe on the road with a farewell to salute to President George W. Bush. Just this month, an Iraqi journalist decided to share the love with our nation's leader. He did this with the time-honored tradition of calling the president a "dog," removing his shoes from his own dogs and then socking them at our commander in chief.

After making the amazing dodge, Mr. Bush got soleful about why his assailant launched his shoes. "It's like driving down the street and have people not gesturing with all five fingers," he stated. I'm not exactly sure what the president is implying with that. I'll just take it to mean that people often use their hands to tell him he's No. 1 in their hearts. [Continue reading]

Hitlerian Totalitarianism on the Home Front - by Karen De Coster

I just happened across this column that was written by Ms. De Coster on August 28, 2006:
Opponents of an absolute state often wonder how far the American people will go in allowing Hitlerian totalitarianism into every single aspect of their lives. When will they stop being compliant little beings, and instead, stand up and fight for their right to exist unencumbered by one totalitarian measure after another? The government intimidates the people daily via the reporting of so-called terror plots and flashing its danger alerts. The media frenzy that follows gives us the caveat that we are all in immediate danger – from assorted hazardous weapons such as killer bras, sandal soles, eye compact, lipstick, and toothpaste. Thus we must be willing to take immediate action to stave off all threats, we are told, or life and limb are in immediate peril. No time to think about it, they say, because we must act now. Accordingly, it follows that blind faith in our leaders is not only the patriotic way, but the only way. [Continue reading]

Politically correct Christmas - by Reb Bradley

By Reb Bradley
Merry Christmas everyone! I mean, Happy Holidays! Oh, wait – holiday means "holy day." We can't say that either, lest the irreligious take offense. Is "Winter Greetings" safe, or might that make summer-lovers distressed? How about "Season's Greetings"? That's an old standby that is probably innocuous enough. I'm sure, like me, you find it ridiculous that store clerks are afraid to wish anyone a Merry Christmas anymore. Frankly, I feel political correctness is robbing me of traditions treasured since childhood! I find it downright depressing when I drive through town and see fewer Christmas decorations every year – all because business owners and city governments fear they might offend those who are emotionally weak. You heard me right. At the very core of political correctness is weakness. [Continue reading]

Our federal republic: Dangling by a thread - By Henry Lamb

Democracy is often described as two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Democracy is mob rule. Democracy collapses when the majority discovers it can vote for itself treasure from the public coffers. Democracy is the last plateau of social order before anarchy. America's founders knew this and chose not to create a democracy, opting instead to create a federal republic. A cornerstone of this republic was the Senate, whose members were chosen by the, while members of the House of Representatives were chosen by the people. This balance was destroyed on April 8, 1913, when the 17th Amendment was ratified, taking the election of senators away from state legislatures and submitting their election to the popular vote. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but the change stripped states of an important power to impose a check and balance on the expanding power of the federal government. [Continue reading]

It's bad enough that the Republican Party can't prevent Democrats from voting in its primaries and saddling us with the New York Times' favorite Republican as our presidential nominee. If the Republican Party can't protect an election won by the incumbent U.S. senator in Minnesota, there is no point in donating to the Republican Party. The day after the November election, Republican Sen. Norm Coleman had won his re-election to the U.S. Senate, beating challenger Al Franken by 725 votes.
