VIDEO: What? You didn't forget about our Veterans again, I hope!

A week ago, it was like Obama was saying, "Step aside, Veterans, I have a new screw-up to get the news off of the VA Hospital scandal," as he touted the pending return of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl along with Bergdahl's parents in the Rose Garden a week ago. Sure enough, it was a major news story about the Bergdahl prisoner swap, and definitely another major scandal. And meanwhile, the VA Hospital scandal was replaced as the top news story.

Though Judge Jeanine Pirro's Opening Statement segment appeared a week ago, at the time of the breaking news about the prisoner swap, I put the video on hold. By Wednesday, June 4th, about everything that we needed to know about the Bergdahl prisoner swap was thoroughly covered in the media. It was then I realized how the story about the Veteran's hospitals was dropping off the radar, and I finally posted this video segment.

Of course, we aren't supposed to believe that the Bergdahl prisoner swap was just a way for Obama to take the attention off of the VA Hospitals scandal, or Marine reservist Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi being held in Mexico. Oh, no, how stupid would that be? Look, who really knows? It seems like what ever Obama wants to do that follows his agenda, ends up being a scandal. And thanks to his minions in the mainstream media, he gets away with it all. If anyone says anything about what he has done, it is just another "trumped up" phony scandal.

It took me until now to post this video here. Perhaps is because I feel like I'm in a fog. There are so many different things going on at this time, it just makes me want to say "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot." What should I talk about now? Does anyone even remember the missing Malaysian Flight MH370? It is like they know that the more excrement they throw at the wall, the less we can concentrate on while it is still sticking.

There is only one thing we can really do about it. We must take everything that is happening into account. Forget the little pieces of the puzzle. Just put it all together, and try to see the big picture. I'm just sayin'.....

Report: Bowe Bergdahl left note renouncing U.S. citizenship ~ By Joe Newby

But it appears Obama doesn't care if Bergdahl is a deserter or not, and said the government is not currently seeking to punish him, the Associated Press said.

Our main priority is making sure the transition that he’s undergoing after five years in captivity is successful,” he said during a news conference in Poland.

Questions have also been raised about the legality of the swap, as members of Congress say they were not informed within 30 days as required by law. According to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, Congress has heard nothing from the White House since 2011 when the idea of a prisoner swap was first suggested.

Like everyone else, when I first heard that a soldier who was a prisoner of war in Afghanistan was being released, I was exhilarated! That was on Saturday, May 31, 2014. But as time went on over the next few days, that exhilaration quickly turned sour. First, it was the five Taliban prisoners that were being held in Guantanamo - GITMO - that were part of the deal to get Bowe Bergdahl returned to the U.S. That was a problem. Then, there is the fact that Obama broke a law by not informing Congress 30 days prior to the prisoner exchange. That was definitely a problem.

And now it is being alleged that Bergdahl possibly deserted his post. His mother and father appear in the Rose Garden at the White House with Obama, like Bergdahl is a hero, only to have his father - with a beard that rivals that of any of the Taliban terrorists just released - speak in the language of the enemy. But if that wasn't enough, the next day, Susan Rice again gets face-time on a Sunday morning news show, saying that Bergdahl served with honor and distinction, and it is totally contrary to all we have been learning since then.

In the video below, Greta Van Susteren says, "There's got to be something we don't know." I have to say, the way this is going, we're going to find out soon. Just sayin'...

Report: Bowe Bergdahl left note renouncing U.S. citizenship
By Joe Newby

June 3, 2014

From examiner.com

Bowe Bergdahl
National security adviser Susan Rice recently claimed that Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier held by the Taliban for five years, served with "honor and distinction." That report, however, seems to have been turned on its head Tuesday, when Fox News' Jennifer Griffin said Bergdahl left a note in 2009 renouncing his U.S. citizenship, Twitchy reported.

"Great reporting from @JenGriffinFNC - new report: Berghdal left behind a note renouncing American citizenship...developing," Fox News anchor Jenna Lee tweeted.

Twitchy acknowledged that more information is needed, but the report is adding fuel to the criticism being leveled at the administration. Last weekend, Bergdahl was exchanged for five Taliban detainees, two of whom are wanted by the United Nations for war crimes.

Moreover, a number of soldiers have said Bergdahl deserted his post and other service members died in efforts to rescue him.

Lone Survivor beats all box office predictions in impressive opening weekend ~ Glenn Beck

“As you will see, the most honorable thing a friend can do for his brothers, Marcus Luttrell has done and told this story and made it appropriate for their death. And you will be amazed at the honor of these men. Truly amazed and humbled,” Glenn concluded. “If you don’t walk out of there going, ‘What am I doing with my life?’ ‘What is important to me?’ If you don’t walk out of that movie theater feeling that, I don’t know, you need to watch it again or check yourself into a hospital to see if you have a heart or a soul.” ~ Glenn Beck

This news mirrors exactly what I expected to happen. It isn't because I'm psychic, either, but because I was aware of Marcus Lutrell's story, thanks to Glenn Beck. I had heard Glenn's interview with Marcus quite some time ago while listening to the show in progress (not just a repeat or a clip). I've also come across a lot of people that have told me that they plan to go to the theater to see this movie. I plan on seeing "Lone Survivor" in the next few days.
Based on the failed June 28, 2005 mission "Operation Red Wings." Four members of SEAL Team 10, were tasked with the mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader, Ahmad Shahd. Marcus Luttrell was the only member of his team to survive.

There is a good reason why I've voluntarily propagated this story even further. This is a message to Hollyweird. America isn't going for movies like "The Wolf of Wallstreet." It isn't what America wants to see. Patriots like movies that show courage and resilience and heroes that are fighting for America!

And guess what?!! Hey, Hollywood, there are many more patriots here in America than you ever dreamed of!

If you want Hollywood to know how many patriots there are in America, and if "Lone Survivor" is the kind of movie you want Hollywood to produce, please help this post keep propagating! You can share it with your friends on Twitter or Facebook or by word of mouth. Just sayin'...

Lone Survivor beats all box office predictions in impressive opening weekend

Lone Survivor, the film adaption of former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s bestselling book of the same name, had a historical weekend at the box office.

“If you haven’t seen Lone Survivor, you need to,” Glenn said on radio this morning. “Second biggest opening in January of any movie. They were surprised by it… They thought it was going to be $14 million. It was $38 million. This thing is going to make well over $100 million and then some.”

Lone Survivor finished the weekend as the number one movie in America bringing in $38.5 million. It bested Disney’s Frozen, which came in at number two, earning $15 million in its eighth weekend, and Paramount’s The Wolf of Wall Street earning $9 million in its third weekend. The opening weekend marked the second biggest January opening ever after the $40.1 million debut of 2008′s Cloverfield.

Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing for Wednesday, Feb 29, 2012

Welcome to this edition of Time 2 Escape WIFLI Briefing!

What is WIFLI?
You may be wondering what the acronym "WIFLI" means. I started out by calling these issues the Time 2 Escape Daily, but that didn't work out very well. I quickly learned that putting these issues together on a daily basis was a task I was unable to accomplish. To replace "Daily" in the title, I coined the acronym WIFLI, which literally means "When I Feel Like It." Putting together a post on this blog WIFLI works much better for my schedule, and for the higher quality of each issue that is eventually published!
Today's introductory commentary won't seem very robust compared to past briefings. There's a reason for that.

No, it isn't because Rick Santorum didn't end up winning in Michigan. There are no sour grapes here. In fact, Santorum may actually end up with more delegates from Michigan than Mitt Romney. I'm okay with that!

Actually, it is a day in this briefing where I believe that the stories and commentaries I've included will speak for themselves. There isn't a lot that I could add or expound on. And I'm okay with that, too!

This might just be a good time for me to give you the reading assignment for the day(s) and allow you to see the things that I believe that you need to know for now, and in the future. I'm not enough of a control freak, or even arrogant enough, to assume that without my "guidance" in this part of the briefing that you need your hand held to get through another issue. In other words, I am not going to try being Rush Limbaugh with half my brain tied behind my back. I'm not going to try that at home! That's dangerous, because it may be time for my readers to figure out what may be on my mind on their own... for once.

Besides, it's time for me to eat dinner and get to bed. It may be time for you to learn on your own. I'm just sayin'...

Inhofe: Cap and trade is 'dead, gone, forever'
Says climate-change skeptics have won debate over global warming
Via WND ~ From The Daily Caller ~ By Will Rahn ~ Published: Feb 27, 2012, 7:12 PM

Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe, the ranking Republican member of the Environment and Public Works committee, told The Daily Caller on Monday that climate change skeptics have won the debate over global warming on Capitol Hill.

We’ve won the fight because there’s no way in the world they could pass through legislation a cap and trade bill,” Inhofe said, referring to proposed laws that would limit carbon emissions. “It’s dead, gone, forever.”

Inhofe, the author of “The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future,” says that he initially believed claims that humans were responsible for climate change. But after reviewing the science behind the claim, Inhofe now says he believes that the theory is a lie, and that the United Nations is largely responsible for promoting it.

The history goes back to 1972 when this whole thing started,” Inhofe said. “And who was it? It wasn’t Al Gore. It wasn’t MoveOn.org. It was the United Nations.

Congressman Allen West blasts Obama apologies over Afghanistan Koran burning
From Examiner.com ~ By Adam Taxin ~ Published Monday, Feb 27, 2012, 2:42 PM

U.S. Congressman Lt. Col. Allen West (R-FL)
The latest round of perpetual Muslim outrage and ingratitude involves the seizure and dispoal of Korans [apparently paid for by U.S. taxpayers] at an Afghanistan jail, following a situation in which, according to Andrew McCarthy, "jihadists imprisoned there were using them not for prayer but to communicate incendiary messages."

As McCarthy wrote: "The soldiers dispatched to burn refuse from the jail were not the officials who had seized the books, had no idea they were burning Korans, and tried desperately to retrieve the books when the situation was brought to their attention."

Numerous riots, corpses and casualty-causing attacks on U.S. troops (there of course to protect and help build Afghanistan) later, Barack Obama has issued an apology (not necessarily on behalf of the American people): "I wish to express my deep regret for the reported incident. . . . I extend to you and the Afghani people my sincere apologies."

Defense minister warns about Iran's 'secret weapons'
'We have not yet revealed all of our capabilities'
From WND ~ By Reza Kahlili ~ Published Tuesday, Feb 28, 2012

In an interview with the Fars News Agency today, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi claimed that Iran is in possession of secret weapons along with top secret capabilities that could be used to confront the United States.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has many hidden capabilities, which are kept for rainy days,” Vahidi said in the interview. “We have not yet revealed all our capabilities.

Referring to the U.S. assets positioned in the Persian Gulf, Vahidi stated: “These days Americans badly fear that an incident happens in the region and they can’t stand against the Islamic Republic’s firm positions vis-à-vis that given event.

Vahidi then, in an ominous warning to America, said, “Undoubtedly, since our defense is an independent and defensive one based on our own defensive policies, special defense doctrines and internal capabilities, the U.S. will face a completely new environment when [it] gets involved with the new issues that Iran is pursuing and it will be obliged to think of this new environment.

The Iranian defense minister went on to say that the American armed forces’ passivity in a possible confrontation with the Islamic regime’s forces will be due to the fact that Iran has not shown all weapons in its arsenal.

Why Santorum’s Michigan Loss Could Be Worse Than It Seems
From Talking Points Memo ~ By Evan McMorris-Santoro ~ Posted Feb 28, 2012, 11:37 PM

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Sure, Rick Santorum gave Mitt Romney a run for his money in his home state. And he should be proud of that. But by not pulling it off, signs point to Santorum making things much harder on himself moving forward than the results indicate.

His primaries party took place in a downtown hotel ballroom at the opulent Amway Grand, where Team Santorum hosted a low-key party to a not-huge crowd. Indicative of his pared-down campaign there were few staff and some strange failed sound cues. The crowd milled around, mostly keeping silent until Santorum entered the room when they gave him some full-throated cheers.

Santorum’s spin is simple: he got close in a state he never should have, the state where Romney was born and raised. That’s a win.

It’s a feeling his team here tonight were keen to push. But there were also concerns about clouds on the horizon thanks to the way Santorum went about getting as close as he did.

Stimulus is killing us
Government's deficit spending is 'like your brain on drugs'
From WND Commentary ~ By Herman Cain ~ Published Feb 27, 2012

HERMAN CAIN
The so-called stimulus package passed by the Democrat Congress and signed by President Obama in 2009 was not the first such attempt by Washington to stimulate economic growth by spending money the government did not have. It was merely the most obscene and the clearest evidence yet that such “stimuli” is akin to the kind people often put into their bodies.

Figuring that a $100 billion stimulus package like the kind that saw the Bush administration send taxpayers $1,000 checks in 2008 was for small-timers, Obama convinced an all-too-willing Congress to go even bigger and balloon the deficit by $862 billion to supposedly spur economic growth.

The economy was in big trouble, so we needed to think big! Translation: spend big! If we didn’t, the president warned, unemployment would exceed 8 percent.

As we all know, the unemployment rate exceeded 10 percent after the impotent stimulus. Even now, it has not been below 8 percent since it first exceeded that level, and it is currently hovering around 8.5 percent.

In 2011, unable to pretend the economy was getting better, Obama asked the new Congress, which now included a Republican House, to give him another $400 billion stimulus. This time, he was told Congress had cut up his stimulus credit card.

End taxes on manufacturing to help restore U.S. economy
From The Detroit News Opinion ~ By Rick Santorum ~ February 20, 2012 at 1:00 am

Michigan has lost 143,000 jobs since President Obama took office. Over a quarter of a million workers have left the labor force. Michigan's official unemployment is more than 9 percent. In Michigan, as in the rest of the country, if you ask people whether they are better off than they were four years ago, the answer is no.

Michigan is not naturally the land of unemployment. We're a nation that meets challenges and overcomes them. We'll meet the challenges of today, we'll persevere, and we'll succeed. We'll do that not by placing our faith in government to solve our problems, but by trusting in the goodness of the American people and its institutions.

When my grandfather first came to America, before he set out for the coal mines of southwest Pennsylvania, he actually came to Detroit and worked in the auto factories for two years. Now his grandson is running for president of the United States. That's what makes America great.

Some in America don't understand what makes America great. Last Monday President Obama sent to Congress a budget. It has massive tax and spending increases and continues our unsustainable budget deficits.

America has tried three years of higher spending and increased government intervention. It has never worked. It cannot work.

America can do better. Much better.

Shooting from the lip is not my style ~ By Herman Cain

As president, one may not make all the correct decisions, but you improve your success rate if you make decisions based on as much of the right information and advice as you can get. Maybe President Obama has just been getting bad advice. If so, he didn't surround himself with the right people.

Working on the right problems, asking the right questions, surrounding oneself with the right people and removing barriers to success – now that's real leadership.

It's much better than shooting from the lip.
This column, folks, is a teachable moment! I'm doing this as a message to the Conservative mega-pundits, such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck, et. al.. They all know who Herman is. I'm seriously surprised that they aren't all throwing their weight toward Herman Cain. They are all aware what Herman stands for. They should have all attacked the pundits that denigrated Herman for his answer about Afghanistan in the South Carolina GOP forum and debate.

Isn't it about time that those that I mentioned above (Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh) reciprocate? Here's my message to them: When are you going to realize that all that we stand for is what Herman Cain is about? That the same folks that love you guys the most, that are participants of all of the great Tea Party rallies around this country, We the People that love this country, would easily stand with Herman Cain if you would present the case to those that aren't yet aware of him?

And yes, Glenn Beck, I understand that you and I stand with Israel, and so does Herman Cain:

On the other hand, I do know enough about our solid relationship with Israel from decades of observations that I would make it even stronger, a move that isn't just about dollars. And, I would not be hesitant to let the rest of the world know that we will stand by and with our friends.
And yes, Glenn, I can see Allen West as President Cain's VP! I'm just sayin'...

Ever since the South Carolina Republican presidential debate, reporters have continued to challenge me for not having a specific plan for our nation's involvement in Afghanistan. They continue to think that if you are running for president, then you must have an answer for everything. I don't! A real leader has the right questions for everything.

When asked about what I would do about our involvement in the war in Afghanistan during the debate, I answered by asking the questions that should have been asked before we got involved many years ago. What is our mission? How does it serve our interest? Is there a path to victory? If not, then what is our exit strategy?

I ask these questions instead of "shooting from the lip" because there is obviously a lot of classified information to which I do not have access. There are dozens of experts and military leaders from whom I would seek advice before I could make an informed decision about a real clear plan for U.S. involvement in Afghanistan. Similarly, a real clear strategy for every country with which we have relationships would be developed, regardless of whether or not we are involved in a military conflict.

To be clear, I want to be out of Afghanistan and all war-torn countries as much as the next person. But I am not going to propose a half-baked plan based on half the information I would need to make the right decision, just to pretend I know everything.

WikiLeaks spurs Big Brother to strike ~ By Diana West

It is getting to feel a lot like Christmas, with Julian Assange being the Santa Claus bringing us the gift that won't stop giving. Diana writes:
WikiLeaks is exposing the way our government conducts "business." It is not a pretty process.
It seems that the released documents on WikiLeaks is telling us more about our government than Uncle Sam really wants us to know about. While WikiLeaks is damaging to our national security, and putting our troops deployed in the "overseas contingency" battlegrounds in danger, is an effort to shut down Julian Assange and his website, WikiLeaks, possibly more harmful to our freedom? Is it really that "dangerous" for U.S. citizens to know what our government has been doing in the name of "diplomacy"?

WikiLeaks spurs Big Brother to strike
DIANA WEST

By Diana West

December 09, 2010 ~ 3:07 pm Eastern

© 2010

Then came WikiLeaks, Internet publisher of leaked information, prompting the question: What is more important – the information theft that potentially harms government power, or the knowledge contained therein that might salvage our national destiny?

Whether such information was originally "classified," the body politic should be electrified by the fact, as revealed by the leaked cables, that nations from Pakistan to Afghanistan to Saudi Arabia are regularly discussed as black holes of infinite corruption into which American money gushes, either through foreign aid or oil revenue, and unstaunched and unstaunchable sources of terror or terror-financing. If this were to get out – and guess what, it did – the foreign policy of at least the past two administrations, Democrat and Republican alike, would be unmasked as a colossal failure.

And maybe that's what behind the acute distress over WikiLeaks. Last week, I put it down to political embarrassment; this week, a new, more disturbing factor has emerged. The state power structure, the establishment more or less, believes itself to be threatened. Its fearful response has been quite startling. First, there were calls for WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange's execution; these have simmered down to calls for trial. Amazon and PayPal cut off service to the WikiLeaks website. Then, in a twist or kink perhaps beyond even Orwell's ken, Assange was arrested without bond this week on an Interpol warrant over very fishy-sounding charges about "unprotected" sex in Sweden – a country, we may now ironically note, of draconian laws governing sexual intercourse and no laws whatsoever governing violent Islamic no-go zones.

Things went completely "1984"-ish when the federal government weighed in, actually warning federal employees not to read the WikiLeaks materials – still "classified," after all. Creepier still, the Library of Congress followed suit, voluntarily blocking the WikiLeaks site from library computers. Now, universities are warning students not to post public comments about WikiLeaks on Facebook or Twitter – lest Big Brother takes note and holds a federal employment grudge.

Suddenly, it's not about secret information anymore, or diplomatic relations. It's about control. The atmosphere chills.

The battle is joined ~ By Pat Boone

Pat Boone talks about the wars going on. Not just the wars overseas, but the spiritual war that faces America. Pat alludes to the fact that we need to "pick a side," and one of those sides is spiritual.
You don't think Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan's stance against "don't ask, don't tell" and other "progressive" personal views have influenced his nominating her? His chief string-puller, Rahm Emanuel, meant it when he said, "Never let a crisis go to waste"; you think they'd let an historic opportunity to put a "progressive" like themselves on the Supreme Court go to waste?

More and more, as dismal and regrettable as it is, it's "us against them." It's traditional Americans, tea partiers, conservatives, hard-working families and most Christians and Jews – all having to actively oppose people that were elected to be our "public servants" and to represent our established dictates and values.

There can be no spiritual Switzerland. No neutrality. You're on one side or the other. You organize and take part and register and vote, determined with millions of us to take our government back. Or we'll all get what we deserve – a socialist, soulless, European-style humanistic, oppressively taxing, Big Brother government.

Let's not pussyfoot; let's say it plain, without equivocation: We're at war.

Yes, we're in a global military conflict again, on foreign soil. Once again, we've stepped into battles involving centuries-old animosities, and are sacrificing American lives in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We're trying to defend America's interests while we cope with ancient hatreds and violence and evil intentions that have little to do with us. It's costing us a fortune in dollars and an incalculable cost in lives and resource.

But that's just one battlefield in the war. We're fighting for our survival on many fronts. Including at home, in our streets and neighborhoods.

For most of our existence as a nation, the United States has been the pre-eminent economy in the world. The dollar has been the standard against which all other currencies are valued. And now, in just a few years and a through a couple of administrations, we are clearly being over-obligated and driven toward irreversible bankruptcy.

The Fed is printing paper money like toilet tissue, as fast as the printing presses can go, creating billions of pieces of currency backed by … what? Mainly implicit promises that American taxpayers will find some way to pay off the debts, rebuild our fractured economic structure and magically instill new value to the paper.

And, from the White House and the clique controlling its policies, come more announcements of more spending – billions and billions on new government programs and bailouts of Greece and several other countries, and the inevitable likelihood of ever more taxes for Americans. All without any consent of the taxpayers themselves, from whom the trillions must come.

Friend, our government has no money of its own. It has to print more worthless paper or take it from you and me. We're at war, economically, with our own government!

And on the education front, in our courts and all along our porous borders, other battles are raging that literally will determine the survival of the America you and I inherited. Traditional, long-cherished values and principles are under continual assault from "progressive" teachers unions; and in our cities large and small, gangs and drug dealers run rampant, peopled in many cases by illegal aliens. Too many jurists feel they can create new law, personally favoring special groups or societal trends.

And now our president has nominated a new Supreme Court justice. She hasn't been a judge, and not much is known about her political views – other than her opposition, when she was dean of the Harvard Law School, to military recruitment on campus because she objected to the "don't ask, don't tell" law the military felt was necessary and fair.

Why is this another front in our present domestic war?

Obama's problems – and ours ~ By Patrick Buchanan

Patrick Buchanan discusses the great challenges facing this country and President Barack Hussein Obama. The budget deficit isn't so much the fault of the former President, but more the fault of the Democrat Congress of 2008 and 2009. What Obama and America need to do may have to involve making some sacrifices, just as we have done before.
Have we become a people incapable of accepting the sacrifices previous generations made, and of producing leaders with the vision and strength of character that our leaders of old possessed?

We inherited the worst situation since the Great Depression.

That is the reflexive response of President Obama to the troubles from which he has been unable to extract his country.

Even before the inauguration, he says, there were projections of a $1.2 trillion deficit for 2009. That deficit is not my deficit.

Presidents are usually blamed for deficits run while they are in office. But, in fact, presidents do not write budgets. Congress does. Presidents sign them. And the mammoth deficits of 2008 and 2009 came from budgets approved by a Congress run by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Did Sen. Barack Obama vote against those budgets?

As for the troubles he inherited, the president has a point. From day one, he has had to deal with two wars, a financial crisis and an economy careening into recession.

But Harry Truman inherited two great wars, an atom bomb and an ally, Josef Stalin, about to dishonor his commitments and enslave half of Europe.

Richard Nixon came to office a minority president in the year of Tet, urban riots, campus uprisings and the assassinations of Dr. King and Robert Kennedy. He inherited a war in which 500,000 Americans were fighting, and came to a capital city dominated by a media that detested him and a Congress where, for the first time since Zachary Taylor, the opposition controlled both houses.

Ronald Reagan, too, inherited the worst recession since the Depression, a hollowed-out Army, a Soviet Empire that had overrun Vietnam and Southeast Asia and seized Afghanistan, Angola, Mozambique, Grenada and Nicaragua, and a NATO shot through with Eurocommunism and pacifism.

Undaunted, Truman went on to a historic victory in 1948, and Nixon and Reagan went on to 49-state landslides. Presidents have a way of coming back, and America has legendary recuperative powers.

So no one should write this president or country off. But neither should anyone minimize the problems confronting us.

How Many Lives Were Saved Today In The War Against Terror?

Julie FredricksonBy Julie Fredrickson

How Many Lives Were Saved Today In The War Against Terror?

Today was one of the slowest Presidents Days I can remember. In fact, I didn’t even see our President on TV today. That’s an exception not the rule. I’m used to seeing him on TV every day to speak about anything and everything. I guess they took the day off in DC. I didn’t see one commercial of George Washington in his white wig, or hear about cherry trees, hatchets or honest Abe. Has Presidents Day fallen to our new era of being politically correct?

When was the last time you saw a well known correspondent wearing camouflage gear, a Helmut and a flack jacket embedded with our troops on a mission? Who is covering our brave men and women as they leave their husbands, wives, parents, siblings and children to serve our country? Sadly, it seems we don’t hear a lot about our troops unless we are hearing reports on fatalities and injuries.

Is this news black out a result of the current administrations refusal to acknowledge it as a war? We hear it described as a conflict or a peacekeeping mission. Let’s call it like it is, a war with a group of enemy combatants that refuse to step into the light and face their enemies but rather hide behind innocent villagers and countrymen to plant roadside bombs and snipe from afar. Cave dwellers and ditch devils that prey on the weak, the elderly and small children to assist in their evil attacks.

Americans want to be kept informed of our success in Afghanistan. We want to hear that our troops are being fed, housed, protected, healed and trained away from home. We don’t need photo opportunities of the troops watching the Super Bowl. We want updates of them winning the war on terror and returning home safely. How about reporting how many lives were saved today instead of how many lives were lost?

Clearing away the Afghanistan fog ~ By Aaron Klein

Commentary from WorldNetDaily
With mounting calls for the U.S. to withdraw from another war before it's won, it's important that the American people get a chance to sees not just how winnable the war is, but what's at stake if we lose it. More than American pride and prowess, and even our own safety from terror, it's the lives of millions of Afghan civilians for whom victory is only another word for survival that are on the line. If we can clear away the fog of war to see anything, let it be that.

The fog of war is a concept that has long been used to describe the uncertainty and lack of clarity that attends combat. Soldiers, as well as their commanding officers, find that war gives off this mental fog, creating "exaggerated dimensions and unnatural appearance," in the words of the great military thinker Carl von Clausewitz.

What we've realized in modern warfare, and maybe most painfully since Vietnam, is that the fog of war extends long after the battle has been concluded, seeping into the public discourse on what actually happened, tainting the accounts and even causing us to lose sight of why we were fighting in the first place.

It's precisely this kind of after-battle fog that has blurred and distorted both the war in Iraq, which is in its "drawdown" phase, and the war in Afghanistan, which still rages and where the fog of war is still causing dangerous confusion.

The recently released book "The Only Thing Worth Dying For" (Harper Collins) is one of the few – if not the only – accounts of the Afghanistan war that clears away the political mists. It does so by providing a clear, honest and faithful account of exactly what happened on the ground in Taliban country, just weeks after 9/11.

The book's author, Eric Blehm, tells the story of a team of 11 Green Berets who used the unusual amount of strategic responsibility they were given to begin chipping away at the Taliban's southern stronghold. Without much of a plan coming from the political echelon, the team, called ODA-574, led by a young captain named Jason Amerine (who now teaches at West Point), managed to form a rag-tag army of anti-Taliban freedom fighters who were able to pull off the impossible.

Shopping malls seen as potential terror targets

From WorldNetDaily
They are 'constantly packed with people, with uncontrolled entry' By Michael Carl Posted: January 28, 2010 ~ 8:05 pm Eastern © 2010 WorldNetDaily Al-Qaida is putting America's shopping malls and other soft targets in its bull's-eye, according to counter-terror experts. Bruce Hoffman, who authored a study at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service, says in a report published in the Washington Post that al-Qaida continues to be a threat because of its networking ability. "For a terrorist movement supposedly on its last legs, al-Qaida late last month launched two separate attacks less than a week apart – one failed and one successful – triggering the most extensive review of U.S. national security policies since 2001. Al-Qaida's newfound vitality is the product of a fresh strategy that plays to its networking strength and compensates for its numerical weakness," the report said. Hoffman added that attrition is part of al-Qaida's strategy, which is where diversifying the targets comes into play. "Najibullah Zazi, the Afghan-born U.S. resident [was] arrested in New York last September and charged with plotting a 'Mumbai on the Hudson' suicide terrorist operation. But while al-Qaida is finding new ways to exploit our weaknesses, we are stuck in a pattern of belated responses, rather than anticipating its moves and developing preemptive strategies," the report said. Hoffman's work, and a study released by Harvard's Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs regarding chemical and biological weapons and their use, are the reasons American Thinker editor J. R. Dunn believes malls may be the new targets of choice for terrorists. "We need only consider the darkest days of the Iraqi terror campaign of 2006-2007 to grasp how the jihadis view marketplaces. Scarcely a week went by without another Iraqi marketplace bombing, with casualties largely consisting of women and children, mounting from the dozens to the hundreds," Dunn wrote. "We need only add the fact that the mall in many ways symbolizes the United States to people across the world, acting as kind of American Horn of Plenty, to see the inevitability of the threat. Such attacks will come, and they will be ugly," Dunn said. Doug Hagmann of the Northeast Intelligence Network said reports that al-Qaida is seeking to diversify target selection and may even attack American malls are accurate. Information from the Joint Terrorism Task Force verifies terror networks operating in the U.S. believe malls are a legitimate terrorist target, he said. "Note that an attack on a mall would be an attack on our economy and could likely cause a downturn in shopping, etc.," Hagmann said. He said the most likely method would be through a biological weapon. "Anthrax or other aerosolized weapon in a HVAC, for example makes perfect sense," Hagmann said, adding, "The United States will likely see an increase in attacks in 2010." American Enterprise Institute terrorism analyst Michael Rubin uses Israel as a model to assert that a mall attack is the next logical step. "If you consider Israel the canary in the coal mine, it can show the progression of targets as security gets beefed up. Terrorists attacking Israel once targeted airplanes and airports but, not being successful, moved onto softer targets: shopping malls, restaurants, and buses," Rubin said. Rubin also said that in the terrorist mindset, malls are perfect targets. "What terrorists want is headlines. Dead women and children make headlines. Unfortunately, the report is probably right," Rubin said. However, CounterrrorismBlog.org's Aaron Mannes believes the threat is minimal. "Let us assume al-Qaida can smuggle a number of experienced operatives here (no small task – sure one got through on Christmas, but he wasn't a top operative and the more people in play the greater the possibility of detection.) do they want to use these guys attacking a shopping mall? A higher-profile target would seem in order," Mannes said. But that doesn't make a mall attack impossible. READ FULL STORY >
