A few thoughts from a 'birther' ~ By Craige McMillan

Finally, the long-form birth certificate does nothing to quell the natural-born-citizen issue, which our Founding Fathers found important enough to write into the Constitution. If the reports of the senior Obama's British citizenship are true, Obama would not be natural-born – and would be unable to legally hold the office of president. That will be a more esoteric, but none the less important, argument. Most of the population, however, does not likely care.  [emphasis my own]

I am really ticked this morning! Grrrr! No, I'm not upset with Craige McMillan. In fact, I loved Craige's column! He had a great way of writing a few of the things I was thinking, particularly in the paragraph in the excerpt above.

I had just read and posted another column here on this blog this morning that says it all. In "Obama challengers: Doc proves president ineligible," it was thoroughly explained why the President's long-form birth certificate (called a Certificate of Live Birth in Hawaii) may end up providing the proof that Barack Obama is not constitutionally eligible to be President of the United States. It may all come down to what "natural-born citizen" means.

Then what has me so agitated? Is it the fact that all day yesterday, and especially this morning, I kept hearing news readers on radio and TV exclaiming what a relief it was that Obama's citizenship is now proven? Here is a summary of the kind of things that I heard: He was born in Hawaii. No question now. The story is over. There's nothing to see here. We need to move on now so that we don't distract the President (from his golf games) with this silliness... yaddi yaddi yadda... But everyone of those so-called "journalists" neglected to mention that many constitutional scholars believe that a "natural-born citizen," as the Founders intended it to mean, required that BOTH parents were U.S. citizens. Oops!

Craige obviously hits the nail on the head when he writes, "Most of the population, however, does not likely care." This is what happens when the citizens are being indoctrinated to ignore the intricacies of the Constitution of the United States.

I have one last portion of my rant that I hate to even mention, but I must. On Glenn Beck's radio program this morning, Glenn, Pat and Stu were ridiculing all of the various conspiracy theories regarding the Obama birth certificate. But never did they mention that in the minds of some, there is still that question of Obama's Constitutional eligibility; not because of the birth certificate itself, but because of that pesky "natural-born citizen" clause in Article II, Section 1. The intent of the Founders which Glenn and his staff have always paid great attention to in the past was completely avoided in this case. I just can not explain that kind of indifference - or negligence - on the part of somebody like Glenn Beck who normally pays so much attention to details. It has unleashed my deepest concerns of a vast conspiracy. I don't have any other way to explain it.  I'm just sayin'...

The release yesterday of Mr. Obama's long-form birth certificate is a welcome development for America. I think, however, that a few cautions are in order before we put the "birther" issue to bed.

First, I believe this shows that Donald Trump was correct in his strategic assessment that Obama had planned to use the birth certificate issue as a distraction during the 2012 election campaign. Trump's efforts have denied him that ability.

Second, Trump has shown that even an issue that socialist big-media have delivered last rites over can be dug up and resurrected from the old ink-drum burial ground and brought to the forefront of public opinion by a prominent individual. This is a real slap in the face to the GOP establishment in our nation's capital. It shows that the tea party must continue to bring challengers forward during the primaries to remove the fossilized deadwood in the GOP.

Third, I think that, given the level of deceit shown by Mr. Obama to date, the physical birth certificate needs to be inspected by a panel of forensic document experts who visit it in its Hawaiian archive home. I would suggest that this be done on a live television broadcast, without edits. I say this only because Mr. Obama has had two years to use some of the best document forgers in the world (if our intelligence agencies still hold that distinction) to produce a long-form birth certificate. Yet he will still have found it difficult to alter the physical record that exists in Hawaii's archives.

Why Marxism lives on ~ By Craige McMillan

Today we call capitalists entrepreneurs. By virtue of their capabilities, these individuals rise to positions of power and prominence. They create products people want to buy, which results in jobs for those whose work is needed to produce the product.

Thus the legacy of Marx lives on, from generation to generation. Why? Because the human failings of ego, conceit and the lust for power over others never die.

Craige enlightens us with his reasons why Marxism keeps on ticking. And no, the explanation doesn't involve people wanting to help the poor or eliminate poverty.

There's a reason Karl Marx is revered by so many academics. The reason is very simple. Marx made them respectable.

The secret lament of many academics goes something like this:
  • There are lots of problems in the world
  • We know – because we've studied them
  • Because we've studied them, we know how to fix them
  • We have the answer, yet nobody ever calls on us!
  • Here! In the back row (waving hand furiously). I know the answer! Pick me!

In other words, "We're the best and the brightest. We have the answers. We should be running things!"

The genius of Karl Marx was not that he solved the world's economic problems. He didn't. The genius of Karl Marx was that he flipped the very old argument from, "Who should have the power?" and made it appear that the real question is, "Who should have the money?"

The great success of Marx is that he made the age-old vices of conceit and the lust for power seem legitimate; perhaps even honorable. Those who craved power over others could now cloak their lust in bland economic platitudes about the means of production and the voice of the proletariat.

The means of production – factories, jobs (and the money to pay for them) – would be owned in common by all the people. The decisions about what to produce (how to spend the money), how much to produce and who does what job would be made by those with political power (since they now controlled the assets). And these same elites would surely call on the academics for advice and implementation.

Two very different systems. Two very different inputs. And two very different results – as 90 years of communist history in various nations of the world has shown.

Thanks, Obama! ~ By Patrice Lewis

It's been a long time since ordinary Americans could rally so strongly behind a cause they believe in, namely their freedoms and the survival of our nation. "Ordinary citizens are rising up, like a phoenix," notes Robin of Berkeley. "This awakening might prove to be Obama's most enduring legacy. The miracle of a soccer mom attending a protest for the very first time; an elderly man bravely stepping up to the mike at a town hall; strangers forming lifelong bonds at tea parties or online, at sites like American Thinker. People like me snapping out of the leftist trance."
This column by Patrice Lewis was written before Tuesday's midterm election, and now we have one more thing to thank Obama for! Patrice explains, even before it happened, why the Republicans were able to win back the House of Representatives and win a few more seats in the U. S. Senate. Obama helped to wake up WE the people.

Video provided by TheREALjohnny2k

And now that we are awake, I wouldn't think that any of the surviving Democrats will dare to try to pass any more Obama's socialist agenda during the lame duck session between now and the end of the year. Many of the surviving Democrats in the House and Senate barely kept their seats. They are now aware that WE the People are awake and watching their every move. Just sayin'...

Now, desperate and scared, the Democrats are trying the usual tactics of name-calling ("Racists!") and intimidation to quell the uprising of dissent. It ain't working.

When Tea Party Nation President Judson Phillips looked over a crowd of supporters and asked, "How many of you – before the tea-party movement – were never involved in politics?" – more than 90 percent raised their hands. Phillips smiled and responded, "Thank you, Barack Obama."
Thanks, Obama!

"Barack Obama is the best thing that has happened to America in the last 100 years," reads the opening line. "Truly, he is the savior of America's future. He is the best thing ever."

This sounds like normal liberal tripe – until I realized it's true.

These words came from a superb article by a rancher and real estate broker named Gary Hubbell, and his sentiments are echoed across the conservative blogosphere and online news sites.

"There would be no tea-party movement without him [Obama]," notes Joseph Farah. "There would be no grass-roots uprising without him. … There would be no awakening of the electorate without him. There would be little focus on the Constitution … without him. There would be no nostalgia about the good old days of American prosperity and triumph without him."

"One of the blessings of the left's assent to power last year – there aren't many – is that ordinary Americans have glimpsed what the left looks like without the mask," says Craige McMillan. "How did we get from 'hope and change' to 'deceit and tyranny'? The short answer is: America had forgotten what the left really looked like."

"For decades, the left has largely controlled the news media, the arts, the universities and the entertainment media," writes Dennis Prager. "And vast numbers of Americans have imbibed these leftist messages and the leftist critiques of conservatives. What these Americans have never been able to do is to see what the left would actually do if in power."

You see, it's been quite a while since a liberal government has been able to fully indulge, virtually unchallenged, in their progressive agenda. When people actually see what it's like, they are horrified. In other words, "every once in a while Americans need to be reminded just how dark the dark side really is."

"… it's clear President Obama does not understand economics, and his goal is to advance a leftist agenda of massive spending, more social welfare entitlement programs and a huge expansion of government and increased taxes," says former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

We've had president after president of splendid mediocrity. That endless mediocrity and the endless chipping away of our constitutional freedoms have dulled us into an endless state of apathy.

It was apathy that got Obama into office – boredom or laziness or curiosity about the nebulous "change" a charismatic Obama promised us.

And since Hope and Change came roaring into office, this country hasn't been the same. The socialist treason that has eaten away the foundation of our nation for many years – virtually unnoticed by an apathetic populace – is now being recognized. Obama and his unelected czars are showing us just how viciously socialism can destroy an economy and two centuries of liberty.

"Not only are Americans waking up to the true nature of the 'change,'" says Roger Hedgecock, "they are dumbfounded at the cost. … Perhaps these younger voters finally realized that the Obama 'change' would require higher taxes for the rest of their lives and the lives of their children and grandchildren."

Hence the birth of the tea party.

"With the help of an incompetently led Congress," writes Herman Cain, "Obama has successfully awakened a citizen's movement that has stunned the political establishment in both parties. … They can't seem to understand why people are upset. Maybe they're not listening. The administration, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, other Democrats, the Obama mainstream media and other liberals have responded to the citizens' movement with nothing but name-calling attacks on the tea-party people. Those tactics have not worked. In fact, they appear to have further energized the citizens' movement. Demonization and intimidation of 'We the People' is not working."

Unnerved by the gathering strength of the tea party, the left attempted a pathetic counter-movement called (cough) One Nation. "The smarter and more devious elements of this movement … understand that it will create more unsustainable dependency on government, which will inevitably lead to chaos and the collapse of the nation and ideas they detest."

In fact, the whole tea-party movement scares the pants off the progressives. "The intensity and nastiness of the attacks on the tea-party movement," notes Tom Tancredo, "tell us how much the left fears ordinary American citizens who take an interest in politics." [Emphasis added.] "The only answer the Obama team has is to smear the opponents as un-American."

These name-calling tactics have always been used to silence citizens, but it's gotten darker and more evil. "The [Freedom Index] poll … showed more Americans now believe their fellow citizens risk punishment, penalty or some sort of public retribution for speaking their minds freely." Remember Joe the Plumber? And Obama wasn't even president yet!

Whenever this administration's minions make fun of all the good, decent, ordinary, hard-working folks who chose to exercise their First Amendment rights and march on Washington – and when they're called racists, Nazis, KKK and other charming endearments – then the citizens of this country wake up a little more. By the millions.

What other president in recent history has sent people scrambling to read the Constitution and Bill of Rights in great depth? To make a best-seller of books like "The 5000 Year Leap"? To make people more aware of their God-given rights, not the "rights" made up by government?

Slamming for votes ~ By Patrice Lewis

The common hope for these politicians, what they're counting on, is the sheeple will believe their lies and vote for them. In other words, they hope the stupid people will turn out in force.
Patrice discusses the some of the methods being used to campaign this year, comparing them to the old trick of phone slamming where people had their long-distance carrier changed without their permission. Patrice explains: "Slamming is a common procedure among those who are desperate for something, whether it's obtaining new customers or garnering votes in the upcoming election. In other words, unethical companies (or candidates) will sink to the lowest level possible – including slamming – to obtain customers or influence voters."

Yes, I am sure that some people will vote based on lies told about candidates, but I am not nearly as worried about that as I am on voter fraud, or things like Illinois not getting absentee ballots to our military serving overseas. Or, like the video talks about  below, just a little "slammin'" could happen with how the military votes get counted (see at 2:45).  Just sayin'...

Video provided by TheREALjohnny2k

Barring outright election fraud, only time – specifically, 10 days – will tell whether these slime tactics are successful or not.

Yet I'm optimistic. The existence and growth of the tea party demonstrates that lies are no longer working like they used to. The truth may yet set us free.
Slamming for votes

Many years ago, my husband received a phone call from a long-distance telephone carrier. "Is this Mr. Lewis?" asked the representative.

"Yes," my husband replied.

"Would you be interested in switching to Xyz long distance service?"

"No thank you."

The representative thanked him and hung up. To our surprise, our next phone bill revealed that we had been signed up with the alternate long-distance carrier.

Furious, my husband called the phone service and asked them what the hell they thought they were doing, switching carriers without our permission. "But we have your permission," protested the representative. "We have a verbal confirmation that you wished to change carriers."

You guessed it – we had been "slammed" when this alternate long-distance service took my husband's "Yes" (in confirming that he was indeed Mr. Lewis) and cut-and-pasted his vocal reply into a false affirmation that we wished to switch long-distance carriers.

Needless to say, we switched back to our original carrier and locked in our service. We later heard that the long-distance carrier had a class-action lawsuit against it for its tactics.

Slamming is a common procedure among those who are desperate for something, whether it's obtaining new customers or garnering votes in the upcoming election. In other words, unethical companies (or candidates) will sink to the lowest level possible – including slamming – to obtain customers or influence voters.

It's becoming more apparent that incumbent liberal politicians are in deep doo-doo with regard to the upcoming Nov. 2 election. Elections (for both parties) have always been about smearing one's opponent, but this year the depths to which incumbents are sinking would be comical if it weren't so nasty.

"The smell of desperation and fear now hangs over the left," notes commentator Craige McMillan. "The left's agenda is a failure. With health-insurance rates skyrocketing, coverage shrinking and jobs evaporating, Democrats now campaign: Not on their accomplishments – for they'd rather we didn't remember. Not against Republican and tea-party ideas – for Democrats bring the same old tired, socialist failures to the debate. But instead they campaign with lies, innuendo, smears and character assassination."

But it doesn't seem to be working. Voters are increasingly undeceived by the empty promises made by all politicians. Since incumbents can't run on their records, their only option is to spread some slime.

Take the case of Florida Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson, who was caught making television ads in which he cut-and-pasted a speech his opponent, Daniel Webster, gave to make it seem as if Webster was a punitive religious fanatic. Grayson's only hope appears to be that there are enough shallow sheeple gullible enough to swallow his nonsense.

Video provided by TheREALjohnny2k

Or take Oregon's Rep. Peter DeFazio, who is selectively culling items and events from his opponent Art Robinson's life to make Robinson seem like a "dangerous wacko extremist." There are dozens of similar cases cropping up all over the country.

The common hope for these politicians, what they're counting on, is the sheeple will believe their lies and vote for them. In other words, they hope the stupid people will turn out in force.

It's not just individual candidates. Public school employees are in on it, too, by providing students with mock ballots that blatantly list only Democratic candidates.

The tea party has become a popular target among the progressives, who are terrified that their wealth-distribution schemes may be disrupted. Because the tea party's biggest platform is greater fiscal responsibility and less government intrusion, somehow that is interpreted (and widely reported) by the progressives and their lap-dog media to mean we want to reinstate Jim Crow laws. They utilize the ever-popular "racism" lie without realizing that their accusations are merely a mirror they refuse to face.

"Liberals believe government, and plenty of it, is the only way racial minorities can survive in America," notes columnist Christopher Grey. "They think that without special help from the government, minorities would be unable to get jobs, have health care, feed their kids, go to school, or do much of anything."

The prevailing (if unsaid) attitude among liberals seems to be, "Awww, the poor widdle minorities … they need our help to get out of bed in the morning." Meanwhile, tea partiers are yelling, "Get busy and accomplish those things on your own!" – because they believe anyone CAN achieve these things if left to their own creativity and ingenuity … unless they're handicapped by government entitlements, of course.

So who has greater faith in individual initiative and who is working harder to preserve human dignity? Yet the accusations of racism continue. And the worst thing about being labeled a racist, as Burt Prelutsky notes, is that denying it gets you nowhere.

The absurdity of Bubba's 'violence' warning ~ By Craige McMillan

Craige's angle in this column needs no further explanation or commentary on my part, other than I join him in saying that Bubba just needs to shut his trap.
Yes, Mr. Clinton certainly knows a thing or two about using violence to achieve his political ends. And like the rest of the self-anointed elites and useful leftist idiots today, he wants Americans to go gently into that "good communist night" (with apologies to Dylan Thomas).
By Craige McMillan

Leftists, progressives and other communist community organizers have got to love former president Bill Clinton lecturing America on the dangers of heated rhetoric.

After all, wasn't it Bill Clinton who presided over one of the more murderous administrations, in terms of killing its own citizens, since the Civil War? Was it not Bill Clinton's administration that murdered 76 people, burning them alive in a church compound in Waco, Texas?

Wasn't it Bill Clinton who violated the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 by ordering the military to assist the FBI with gassing and then destroying the Branch Davidian church building and residences? And isn't that violation of Posse Comitatus an act for which the former president has never been held accountable?

Wasn't it Bill Clinton who was impeached by the House of Representatives for lying under oath about sex in the Oval Office with intern Monica Lewinsky, but found "not guilty" when the Democrat-controlled Senate refused to convict, entirely along party lines? And wasn't it Bill Clinton who surrendered his law license over his perjury?

I thought so.

Even Presidents Richard Nixon and Lyndon Baines Johnson, during the height of violent protests against the Vietnam War, never ordered the military to act against American citizens. And this was when college administration buildings were being occupied by protesters, and "peace" marches were nearly as violent as the war.

The Deem-ocrats ~ By Craige McMillan

Craige writes a nice short, to-the-point column about the process the "Deem-ocrats" could possibly use to get the health care deform legislation to the President's desk.
So why stop with legislation? Why not simply bypass the midterm elections entirely? "The incumbent Congress is hereby deemed re-elected!" End of story. No illegal voters required. No voter intimidation required. And those going to a congressman's office to complain are simply arrested by the police. No explanation necessary.
By Craige McMillan

© 2010

"The legislation is deemed passed!" Gavel sound, please. "We didn't actually vote to pass it, you see. But if we had voted, we're sure – no, very sure – no, more than that, we're almost completely sure – that it would have passed. That's if we actually had voted to pass it, which, of course, we didn't!"

So, instead of all that messy, nasty, divisive voting stuff, the Congress will just vote to treat the legislation as if it had passed. "Because we know it could have – would have – if we had voted for it, OK?"

Ah, yes. To paraphrase Mussolini, "What is a small constitutional clause that requires voting, in the affairs of a great state?"

America's communists (they go by the name of progressives these days) have always viewed government as a cult of personality: Hitler, Stalin, Mao – it's never the process or the laws; it's a cult of personality. Here in America it's the cult of Obama.

Under government by personality, the people's representatives have always done what they were told. "The legislation is deemed passed. Number One, make it so."

Now Obama wants your IRA ~ By Craige McMillan

Commentary from WorldNetDaily
"Our private retirement turns out to be yet one more thing we can foist on the next generation, having aborted 40 million of them, diluted their education to catchy phrases, spent their inheritance and mortgaged their future. Yeah, man! They owe us! Let's make them pay our private retirement in addition to our Social Security. Yeah! Do it for to the children! "Let me tell you how that generation's going to respond. It's called euthanasia. But before we go, this Congress is going to go! It may take citizen patrols around election polling places to deter the Democrats' voter intimidation, union thuggery, illegal voters and Chicago cemetery corpses. And when that's done, then we'll have a nice, quiet conversation with the Democrat left about payback."
Craige McMillanBy Craige McMillan Posted: January 14, 2010 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2010 The Democrat version of Hope and Change is very simple: You get the hope, we keep the change. Changes are afoot for your IRA, SEP or 401(k). The Democrats have emptied the public piggy bank, petitioned the Federal Reserve for zero-interest loans, and now they're coming for what's left of your retirement. Of course, their motive is compassion. You listened to the evil Wall Street stockbrokers and investment bankers (you know, the ones that donate so heavily to Democratic candidates), and now your retirement fund has plummeted in value, while your home is worth less than you owe. But fear not! We have a plan. It's really very simple. Just give us the money. In return, we will give you our best promise to pay. (That would be Treasury IOUs. You know – the same ones they've already "invested" your Social Security payments in while they've spent them as general revenue, and which now have to be repaid by ordinary taxpayers – which would be you.) Now, why would big ol' Uncle Sam want my poor little IRA? Could it be that somebody in Washington, D.C., knows the market is not going to let them borrow enough money – at an interest rate they can afford – to fulfill their grandiose plans for Utopia on the Potomac? The government has lost its mind ~ By Craige McMillan

From WorldNetDaily
Craige McMillanBy Craige McMillan Posted: September 17, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 There is a very telling interchange for our season, that takes place in John le Carre's great Cold War trilogy, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." A fringe soldier in the war of "isms" has been tortured and murdered for the secret he kept. The man's friend wants answers and assurances. George Smiley, the great spymaster called out of retirement for this case (and played so well by Alec Guinness), speaks only in parables: George Smiley: It will cause great embarrassment to the man who sent them. Claus Kretzschmar: Will it kill him? George Smiley: It will do worse than kill him. The interchange is a parable for our age. Perhaps it is le Carre's last laugh at those of us naive enough to have thought that the Cold War died in the rubble of the Berlin Wall. The consummate orator picked to lead America down the back road to communism, and to exchange the light of human freedom for the darkness of dependency, has demonstrated he is an empty-headed fool with nothing to say to the nation who elected him. His Kenyan tribal roots are daily revealed in the graft and corruption of his hand-picked band of pretenders. Only his foot soldiers – Pelosi, Reid, et al. in the Congress – are still swallowing his empty words. There, they attempt to breathe new life into them with laws and rules designed to extinguish life and hope, and rob America of its future, much as they have extinguished its children. The media sycophants who came out during the election as Democratic Party handlers, massaging public opinion, still parade daily in front of us, fulfilling an odd role they have created for themselves: An inbred mixture of court jester and town fool. They have been pimps to power for so long, is it any wonder they can see nothing newsworthy in ACORN's tax advice to prostitutes? [CLICK HERE TO READ MORE]

The media-government incest brothel ~ By Craige McMillan

From WorldNetDaily
Craige McMillanBy Craige McMillan Posted: August 27, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 America was designed with a watchdog press that the founders believed would naturally allay itself with the citizens against government excess. Why? Because the press was composed of small, individual businesses, most often printers. That's why the founders specifically protected the press from the government by including it in the First Amendment. Unfortunately, the founders failed to see several rather nasty developments:
  • The rise of media conglomerates, which absorbed most of the nation's once-independent voices (which has been encouraged by government);
  • Ongoing incest between the conglomeratized press corps and the government itself (the revolving door);
  • The infestation of the press by special-interest groups, including government itself.
A perfect example of this is Jon Leibowitz, a top federal regulator, and his wife, Ruth Marcus, a columnist for the Washington Post. Of course, they use different last names in real life. Now the federal regulator will be hosting a panel on the press' role in America. Bloomberg, to its great credit, had the decency to mention the relationship in its reporting on the upcoming conference. [READ FULL COLUMN]

Gimme, gimme, gimme ~ By Craige McMillan

By Craige McMillan Posted: August 06, 2009 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 "Give me, give me, give me!" not "How can I work more effectively and better serve others?" is what America seems to have become. The "gimme" crowd has bred and multiplied among itself within the halls of education, media, government and charity. Those who are delivering value are scorned, while the little Robin Hood Hitlers are bowed down before – so that the crumbs from their thievery might fall onto the tables of their worshipers. "Diversity is strength" – you're an idiot if you believe that. Jesus issued the definitive word on this: "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand" (Matthew 12:24-26). How many three-legged bar stools have you seen with one leg made of mud, another of paper mache, and the third of steel? And how did that work when you dragged it from one end of the bar to the other and sat down to discuss diversity? A herd of freshly minted MBAs has bled the poor with credit card interest rates that the mob could only imagine, and shoveled the profits onto their classmates' piles on Wall Street so it could be "invested" by global warming computer trading models. When they bankrupted both Wall Street and Main Street, they stood with their hands out at the taxpayer feeding trough, waiting for "hope and change" to come bail them out. After all, they're "entitled" to their million dollar bonuses – whether the firm makes money or not! America can't afford for their self-esteem to suffer. What this public trough crowd has done for banking, Wall Street and Main Street they now are intent on doing for medicine. But far be it from our public "servants" to read the bill they are about to vote on. Pick your own doctor? Go to jail! Pay for an operation that Big Brother has denied? Go to jail! Are you an illegal immigrant? Step to the front of the queue – everything has been paid for! May we send for your family? To make room we'll send home someone else who has applied for legal status and waited five years for entry. You will remember to vote for us, will you not? [CONTINUE READING]

The 'perpetual mediocrity' nominee ~ By Craige McMillan

By Craige McMillan Posted: July 16, 2009 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 The nomination of Sonia Sotomayor for a position on the United States Supreme Court is a clear case of "dumbing down" the nation's highest court for the often-orated but factually bereft "benefits" of "diversity." When George W. Bush was slapped down for his cronyism in the nomination of Harriet Miers for a position on the same court, he responded with a degree of humility and nominated John Roberts for the position. No one has accused Mr. Roberts of lacking the intellectual firepower needed for the position. No one has suggested that elements of his character would prevent sound judging. And no one has pointed out more intellectually qualified candidates whom the president could have nominated. Is that the case with Sonia Sotomayor? Or is it simply that Judge Sotomayor's main "qualifications" for a position on the nation's highest court are her sex, her race and the fact that in previous decisions she has ruled from the bench in favor of perpetual mediocrity (also known as affirmative action and racial set-asides)? She decided that the city of New Haven was right to ignore qualified white firefighters for promotion, simply because no blacks passed the test and qualified. Nice. A real color-blind society. That ruling was typical of the inbred affirmative action crowd, which has now seen its offspring come to positions of power in the media, government and academia. Their policies result, far more often than not, in promotion of the unprepared and unqualified to positions of power over those who "worked hard and played by the rules," as Bill Clinton described much of America. But that's what affirmative action is all about, isn't it? That isn't what affirmative action was about when it started.
