The family of injured Cedar Rapids police Officer Tim Davis is adapting to changes in his personality.
Davis, wearing a brown helmet, stood by with his hands clasped at his waist as his wife, Stephanie, addressed the media this morning for the first time since the March 29 assault.
“Tim is a new Tim,” Stephanie Davis said. “He will never be as he was before the incident, and all of our friends and family are trying to get to know the new Tim.”
The Davis family thanked the public and said support from strangers has been very humbling.
Officer Davis was assaulted while he investigated a mugging in 1600 block of First Avenue East. Stephanie Davis said she was told her husband was struck once in the face with a blunt object. She said the impact from the blow and from his head hitting the pavement fractured his skull and caused swelling and bruising to his brain.
Officer Davis has no memory of the incident. He spent 39 days in the hospital before being released May 7. [

I WISH I could do more for Tim Davis and his wife Stephanie and their family, financially. But for now, I guess what I can do is just to make sure that they know people are keeping them in their thoughts and prayers.

If you live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, you don't expect situations like this. It has been 25 years ago today, since any CRPD officer lost his life in the line of duty. That was Officer Bret Sunner.
I thank everyone on the CRPD for all they do, from Chief Graham down to every officer on the streets, the dispatchers, and the citizens that support our police in any way they can.
Today, I give my condolences and praise to the Sunner family, along with my best wishes for the Tim Davis family. And I propose that our City of Cedar Rapids officials make June 8 a day to honor the cops, Sheriff's deputies, firefighters, EMTs, and all other emergency support personnel... (And yeah, even security officers...)
On a front page column today in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, it was announced that Officer Tim Davis has returned to patrol duty (with a partner). That is awesome! I will post a link to the column soon.
