RINOS' last stand in California ~ By Roger Hedgecock

Though I am familiar with California politics, being here in the land of Bibles and guns of the great Midwest, I know many of the readers of this blog live in California. So, I am posting this great Roger Hedgecock column for those of you in the Golden State, and any other state that may be stuck with nothing but RINOs for candidates.

If I was voting in California, though, I would be very worried, especially with the front-runner Meg Whitman, who happens to be influenced by former Obama jobs czar and Communist, Van Jones. That would be enough for me to pull the lever for a different RINO running for the Republicrat nomination for governor. Just sayin'...

But as California becomes the "Greece" of the U.S. with the state caught between the rock of a strangled economy and the hard place of implacable public sector unions who won't give up a penny in wages or benefits, does Poizner have the proposals which recognize the problem and offer solutions?

Not really. Much like the recent faux campaign in the U.K. in which all three parties refused to tell British voters that Margaret Thatcher was right when she said socialism would fail when it ran out of other peoples' money, the campaign for governor of California is some kind of opera where all the candidates avoid mentioning the coming calamity of certain state government insolvency.

Unlike the straight talk and decisive actions of real Reagan conservatives like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the California governor's race is a masquerade of RINOS.

The prairie fire of a political movement known as the Taxed Enough Already party has changed the politics in nearly every state this year.

I say "nearly" because the last stand for RINOS, for what we called "country club Republicans" in the Goldwater days, for the "we're not conservatives," "Democrat lite" Republicans – is here in California.

The major candidates for governor (Arnold is at long last term limited out) are former eBay CEO Meg Whitman and state insurance commissioner Steve Poizner. Neither candidate is generating grass-roots, tea-party enthusiasm.

Whitman has a compelling success story in creating jobs in private business. Her political story is less stellar. She didn't bother to vote until recently.

As a candidate, she rules out across-the-board tax cuts in a state with some of the highest tax rates in the country – a state that is now experiencing (as Art Laffer would predict) falling tax revenues.

Whitman's reaction to the Arizona immigration law was a vow to veto any such legislation if elected governor. She has supported "comprehensive" immigration reform – code for illegal-alien amnesty.

Whitman backed the federal TARP bailout bill. As a member of Goldman Sachs' board of directors in 2001 and 2002, she benefited from financial investments now banned.

She professes an admiration ("I got to know him very well") for Van Jones after she met him on an Arctic cruise dedicated to showing the passengers the ravages of "global warming." Apparently, as a result of Mr. Jones' influence, Whitman will not support repeal of California's job-killing state "cap and trade" law.

Whitman's appeal for votes (her $59 million donation to herself has drenched the state in TV and radio ads) in the California Republican primary June 8 comes down to two themes: "I know how to create jobs" and "The other candidate is no conservative, either."

Whitman, by every account I've seen, was a superb private business executive. Her collaborative work practices applied during a tech boom inspired creative non-union employees to create wealth for more people over a shorter period of time than has rarely been seen in history. None of this experience will translate to success running California state government.

'We the People' demanding stimulus audit

From WorldNetDaily
GOP's Joe Wilson launches effort after millions allocated to imaginary districts Posted: November 20, 2009 ~ 11:55 pm Eastern By Bob Unruh © 2009 WorldNetDaily Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), the man that said 'YOU LIE' during Obama speech to CongressA congressman who famously shouted "You Lie" to Barack Obama when the president was addressing Congress to lobby for his health care proposal now is assembling a petition demanding the truth about the billions of dollars of federal stimulus money being spent. "The Obama administration recently launched a website at www.recovery.gov to track stimulus spending, fraud, and abuse, but unfortunately the website seems to be its very own worst offender," said Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., in an announcement about his plans. "It reports millions of dollars spent to create jobs in congressional districts that do not exist," he said. "Yes. Fake jobs in fake districts." There have been a multitude of reports about the "mistakes" appearing on the government website. The Las Vegas Review-Journal, for example, found $7.7 million allocated from the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act directed toward the state's 32nd, 22nd, 9th and 25th congressional districts. The districts, however, don't exist. [CLICK HERE TO READ MORE]

Barack Obama: It's about priorities ~ By Barbara Simpson

From WorldNetDaily
Barbara SimpsonBy Barbara Simpson Posted: October 19, 2009 ~ 1:00 am Eastern © 2009 Last week, the president of the United States graced San Francisco with his presence. He was in town on Thursday to raise some $3 million in political money but not to mingle with the average folks – you know, the ones whose votes he solicited last November. The Matier and Ross column in the San Francisco Chronicle on Oct. 14 headlined it accurately: "Obama to avoid the rabble on S.F. visit." Avoid them he did – being whisked in by limo and escorted through back entrances so the only people who saw him were those from whom his presence extracted money – big money, at two fundraisers: a $500-$1,000 a pop reception for about 1,000 and a VIP dinner for some 160 supporters, each paying $30,500 or more for a pair of tickets that got them dinner, a handshake with the man and even a picture. As the Chronicle headlined on Friday, "President visits city – lucky few see him." Actually, the people who really "saw" him were those who ponied up money to refill Democrat coffers to fund upcoming elections. The rest of us didn't count. Last week, I received an e-mail from the office of Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., that contained a copy of his remarks on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the House Chamber, in tribute to Sgt. Joshua M. Hardt, U.S. Army: Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to U.S. Army Sgt. Joshua M. Hardt of Applegate, California. He is one of the fallen heroes of the Battle of Kamdesh – the remote outpost that was besieged and surrounded and hopelessly outnumbered by more than 300 Taliban insurgents on October 3rd. No soldiers in the history of our nation have fought more valiantly or bravely than the defenders of Combat Outpost Keating that day. In the end, they held their ground, they defended their flag and the honor of their country." The day Rep. McClintock spoke those words, the president was in New Orleans, for a four-hour pit stop – clearly a token visit to reassure the injured city that the president cares. He made two quick stops while there, using the time to tell folks he would not "quit" New Orleans and went on to promote his medical plan and criticize insurance companies. Obama told residents he wished he could write a check to solve their problems dealing with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. When a heckler challenged him to do that, he said that there's something called the Constitution and Congress to deal with. What a surprise! Those "details" haven't deterred him from writing massive checks to other entities over the last months. It appears only the "big guys" warrant his check-writing skills, not the average citizens of this country. They only count when he wants their votes. While Obama was in Louisiana, Rep. McClintock in Washington recounted what Sgt. Hardt and his fellow soldiers did at Kamdesh: " … most importantly, they defended something fundamental and sacred and eternal that defines humanity itself. They defended something that can never be abandoned as long as humanity exists. They defended right against wrong – good against evil – freedom against tyranny – in its most stark and defining form."
