New data shows that the “vanishing” of polar ice is not the result of runaway global warming

[Paul] Homewood's interest in the Arctic is partly because the "vanishing" of its polar ice (and the polar bears) has become such a poster-child for those trying to persuade us that we are threatened by runaway warming. But he chose that particular stretch of the Arctic because it is where ice is affected by warmer water brought in by cyclical shifts in a major Atlantic current – this last peaked at just the time 75 years ago when Arctic ice retreated even further than it has done recently. The ice-melt is not caused by rising global temperatures at all.

The days of being a "climate change denier," resulting in ostracization, are about over. It is becoming more difficult for the leftist global warming enthusiasts to pressure their colleagues by black-balling them from employment in various industries, academic institutions, and government agencies.

The problem for Al Gore and his sycophants is that, at least for now, there is plenty of information out in the cyber-sphere where it is shown that there is plenty of reason to question the "consensus" of the so-called scientific experts. With evidence that "scientific" data was skewed in order to make their case, the AGW (antropogenic global warming) theory is no longer beyond reasonable doubt.

It's getting extremely difficult to believe that man has the ability to so drastically alter climate. And it is disturbing that so many people don't yet understand, or realize, or believe, that the climate-change-caused-by-man theory is backed by globalists and socialists (Marxists). Those are the last people that we would want to be controlling energy! Just sayin'...

When future generations look back on the global-warming scare of the past 30 years, nothing will shock them more than the extent to which the official temperature records – on which the entire panic ultimately rested – were systematically “adjusted” to show the Earth as having warmed much more than the actual data justified.

Two weeks ago, under the headline “How we are being tricked by flawed data on global warming”, I wrote about Paul Homewood, who, on his Not a lot of people know that blog, had checked the published temperature graphs for three weather stations in Paraguay against the temperatures that had originally been recorded. In each instance, the actual trend of 60 years of data had been dramatically reversed, so that a cooling trend was changed to one that showed a marked warming.

This was only the latest of many examples of a practice long recognised by expert observers around the world – one that raises an ever larger question mark over the entire official surface-temperature record.

U.S. manufacturing employment peaked at 19.5 million jobs in 1979. Since 1979, the manufacturing workforce has shrunk by 40 percent, and there's every indication that manufacturing employment will continue to shrink. Because of automation, the U.S. worker is now three times as productive as in 1980 and twice as productive as in 2000. It's productivity gains, rather than outsourcing and imports, that explains most of our manufacturing job loss.

Walter E. Williams explains that America's manufacturing production is really not down like people think it is. Though the number of people employed in manufacturing has been drastically reduced by 40% since 1979, Walter explains why that may not really be a bad thing.

So many statements we accept as true, plausible or beyond question; but are they? Let's look at a couple of important ones: global warming and U.S. manufacturing decline.

In 2000, Dr. David Viner of University of East Anglia's disgraced Climatic Research Unit advised, "Within a few years winter snowfall will become a very rare and exciting event," and "Children just aren't going to know what snow is." Britain's Meteorological Office said this December was "almost certain" to become the coldest since records began in 1910. Paul Michaelwaite, forecaster for NetWeather.tv, said, "It is looking like this winter could be in the top 20 cold winters in the last 100 years."

In reference to the last decade of the Earth's cooling, geologist Dr. Don J. Easterbrook, emeritus professor at Western Washington University, says, "Recent solar changes suggest that it could be fairly severe, perhaps more like the 1880 to 1915 cool cycle than the more moderate 1945-1977 cool cycle. A more drastic cooling, similar to that during the Dalton and Maunder minimums, could plunge the Earth into another Little Ice Age, but only time will tell if that is likely." Global warming hype is nothing less than a gambit for more government control over our lives.

How about statements like these: "The United States got to where it is today by making things." "There's nothing made here anymore." "One-third of the nation's manufacturing jobs have vanished in the past decade." These statements suggest that we are no longer the world's top manufacturer; we have all but turned into a nation of "hamburger flippers."

'Hockey stick' graph was exaggerated

The key word in this story is "exaggerated." Wasn't that the whole point shown by the emails from East Anglia Climate Research Unit in the "climategate" scandal? Global warming and climate change being a threat to the world is being exaggerated.

The 'hockey stick' that became emblematic of the threat posed by climate change exaggerated the rise in temperature because it was created using 'inappropriate' methods, according to the head of the Royal Statistical Society.

Professor David Hand said that the research – led by US scientist Michael Mann – would have shown less dramatic results if more reliable techniques had been used to analyse the data.

Prof Hand was among a group of experts charged with investigating the "climategate" email scandal that engulfed the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) last year.

Sceptics claimed that the hacked messages showed scientists were manipulating data to support a theory of man-made global warming.

However the review, led by Lord Oxburgh into the research carried out by the centre, found no evidence of ''deliberate scientific malpractice".

Lord Oxburgh said the scientists at the research unit arrived at their conclusions ''honestly and sensibly''.

But the reviewers found that the scientists could have used better statistical methods in analysing some of their data, although it was unlikely to have made much difference to their results.

That was not the case with some previous climate change reports, where "inappropriate methods" had exaggerated the global warming phenomenon.

Prof Hand singled out a 1998 paper by Prof Mann of Pennsylvania State University, a constant target for climate change sceptics, as an example of this.

He said the graph, that showed global temperature records going back 1,000 years, was exaggerated - although any reproduction using improved techniques is likely to also show a sharp rise in global warming. He agreed the graph would be more like a field hockey stick than the ice hockey blade it was originally compared to.

"The particular technique they used exaggerated the size of the blade at the end of the hockey stick. Had they used an appropriate technique the size of the blade of the hockey stick would have been smaller," he said. "The change in temperature is not as great over the 20th century compared to the past as suggested by the Mann paper."

Our climate czar's faith in fraud ~ By Walter E. Williams

The religion of consensus science continues to unravel for the global warming fraud. Professor Williams correctly points out that the EPA and the global warming czar, Carol Browner shouldn't continue to be "spending billions of dollars and enacting economically crippling regulations in the name of fighting global warming."

Given all the false claims and evidence pointing to scientific fraud, I don't think it wise to continue spending billions of dollars and enacting economically crippling regulations in the name of fighting global warming. At the minimum, we should stop the Environmental Protection Agency from going on with their plans to regulate carbon emissions.

Private industry and governments around the world have spent trillions of dollars in the name of saving our planet from manmade global warming. Academic institutions, think tanks and schools have altered their curricula and agenda to accommodate what was seen as the global warming "consensus."

Mounting evidence suggests that claims of manmade global warming might turn out to be the greatest hoax in mankind's history. Immune and hostile to the evidence, President Barack Obama's administration and most of the U.S. Congress sides with Climate Czar Carol Browner, who says, "I'm sticking with the 2,500 scientists. These people have been studying this issue for a very long time and agree this problem is real."

The scientists whom Browner references are associated with the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC. Let's look some of what they told us. The 2007 IPCC report, which won them a Nobel Peace Prize, said that the probability of Himalayan glaciers "disappearing by the year 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high" as a result of manmade global warming. Recently, IPCC was forced to retract their glacier-disappearance claim, which was made on the basis of a non-scientific magazine article. When critics initially questioned the prediction, Rajendra Pachauri, IPCC's chairman, dismissed them as "voodoo scientists."

The IPCC also had to retract its claim that up to 40 percent of the Amazonian forests were at risk from global warming and would likely be replaced by "tropical savannas" if temperatures continued to rise. The IPCC claim was based on a paper co-authored by the World Wildlife Fund and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, two environmental activist groups.

Over the last few months, and even again today, very unsettling revelations have come to light about the “settled science” of man-made global warming. With all of these shoes dropping you’d think every member of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) would be barefoot by now.

One thing after another keeps popping up to further discredit the theory of man-made global warming. The IPCC’s supposedly definitive report proving the theory is riddled with serious errors. The organization has been publicly chastised by everyone from its former chair to the heads of the UK’s biggest funder of climate research and Greenpeace UK. One of the world’s top climate change scientists, Prof. Phil Jones, has conceded that there’s been no significant warming since 1995; that the medieval period may have been warmer than today; and that he’s had trouble even keeping track of raw data crucial to the global warming theory. Yet President Obama still seeks to create a federal office for global warming, and they’re still talking about mandating their cap-and-tax plan that's based on discredited data.

Today, I’m going to get into some rich food for thought. This could only happen due to the major sleep deprivation that I’ve recently experienced. I believe that this morning, I had a revelation. (And don’t forget my first name is John.) I came up with a theoretical formula that obliterates the liberal/progressive/Socialist propaganda of man-caused global warming or climate change. If you remember any of the math classes you took, going back to middle-school, you will understand what this logical expression comes down to.

The “Chain of Command” Theorem:

God > Nature > Man > animals > plants > bacteria > politicians, where politicians = viruses

Unfortunately, America is infected… with politicians. Like viruses, they go on the constant offense to make you feel miserable. They make sure that they position themselves to feel superior to you. And in the mean time, they want you to feel like YOU are at the bottom of the food chain. They are high and mighty, and you are a lowly serf.

And yet, decades ago, they decided that they want to give you the credit for being able to control the climate. Yep. You have the power to utilize your vehicle to transport yourself from point A to point B. And that ability consumes the kind of energy that not only depletes our natural resources on this rock, but also has the ability to alter Nature.

It was the perfect fraud, they thought. The politicians actually believed that they could t0taly turn the Chain of Command completely upside down. To do so, they had to convince you that they should be God, and you were lower than the bacteria. Think about it. First, they exalt bacteria by saying how various bacterial diseases or viruses could take your life. The horror!

And then, they exalt the plant life by going around hugging trees and telling us that we should communicate with plant life, and they gave us the movie, “Avatar.”

But wait, suddenly your dogs and cats should have at least the rights that even the terrorists (also animals) have! Am I kidding you? Animal rights? Yeah, right…. Unbelievable… That is until you see what people that go along with PETA may have done to attack various shelters and labs…

Last but not least, was to tell Man that we had control over Nature. That alone is the standard indoctrination that there IS no God. They’re saying that we – the people – are in control of what Nature does. That’s funny, because I would think that many of the residents of the 49 states of the United States that saw snow this year never really wanted to see the evil white flakes… So, uh, why can’t somebody finally come up with a way to prevent cold and snow? Hmmm?

The new report is from scientist Joseph D'Aleo and was highlighted in a report on global warming on KUSI television in San Diego. It comes only weeks after the tumultuous climategate e-mail scandal in Britain erupted, proving top global warming scientists manipulated data there. The report from D'Aleo, a retired climatologist who has been skeptical of global warming, contends climate data has been corrupted and skewed by "urbanization and other local factors such as land-use-land-cover changes and improper siting." He blamed the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which he described as "seriously complicit in data manipulation and fraud." The East Anglia e-mail leak focused on the work at the Climate Research Unit there, but the director there has confirmed "almost all the data" in the archive "is exactly the same as in the Global Historical Climatology Network archive used by the NOAA National Climatic Data Center," D'Aleo said. But he noted that an analysis by San Jose computer programmer E.M. Smith of the data "found they systematically eliminated 75 percent of the world's stations with a clear bias towards removing higher latitude, high altitude and rural locations." "The thermometers in a sense marched towards the tropics, the sea and to airport tarmacs," he said. For example, the report said the number of reporting stations in Canada dropped from 600 to 35 with the percentage of stations at lower elevations tripling while the numbers of those at higher elevations plummeted. Further, a vast majority of the climate stations reporting in the U.S. were either poorly or very poorly sited, taking temperature readings from paved driveways, in a waste treatment facility, on rooftops or near the exhaust from idling jet engines, rather than in open areas. Stations in such locations as the Andes and Bolivia have virtually vanished, meaning that temperatures for those areas now are "determined by interpolation from stations hundreds of miles away on the coast or in the Amazon." "[Think] of it this way," D'Aleo told the television station, "if Minneapolis and other northern cities suddenly disappeared but Kansas City and St. Louis were still available, would you think an average of Kansas City and St. Louis would provide an accurate replacement for Minneapolis and expect to use that to determine how Minneapolis' temperature has changed with any hope of accuracy?" D'Aleo said that the coolest stations in a particular reporting period sometimes disappeared in the next. "This would indicate a deliberate attempt to create a warm bias on the part of NOAA because in calculating the average temperatures in this way it would ensure that the global average temperature for each month and year would now show a positive temperature anomaly," the report said. This scandal obviously calls into question the proposals being pushed in Copenhagen. I’ve always believed that policy should be based on sound science, not politics. As governor of Alaska, I took a stand against politicized science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population had more than doubled. I got clobbered for my actions by radical environmentalists nationwide, but I stood by my view that adding a healthy species to the endangered list under the guise of “climate change impacts” was an abuse of the Endangered Species Act. As to "Climategate," the e-mails hacked from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit show Revkin very much an active participant in the information flow. What they reveal is an insecure reporter working hard to ingratiate himself with the world's most influential global-warming advocates. In one relatively benign e-mail to "dear all," for instance, Revkin addresses a specific "bone of contention with a lot of the anti-greenhouse-limits folks." Although the issue is too dense to explore here, Revkin concludes his e-mail with his trademark sycophancy: "hoping to show a bit of how that works.thanks for any insights. and i encourage you to comment and provide links etc with the current post to add context etc." Incredibly, after Climategate broke, the Times' editors allowed Revkin to continue covering the scandal even though he himself was central to the story. His subsequent reporting has drawn intense heat from critics, especially since his instinct has been to cover for his friends. "The evidence pointing to a growing human contribution to global warming is so widely accepted that the hacked material is unlikely to erode the overall argument," Revkin wrote at the scandal's outset. Another expressed internal doubts: "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't. The CERES data published in the August (Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society) 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. These guys apparently weren't hamstrung by the Scientific Method, which has the audacity to suggest that the process of establishing a theory (such as global warming) be "objective to reduce biased interpretations of the results. Another basic expectation is to document, archive and share all data and methodology so they are available for careful scrutiny by other scientists, thereby allowing other researchers the opportunity to verify results by attempting to reproduce them. This practice, called 'full disclosure,' also allows statistical measures of the reliability of these data to be established." Unencumbered by such quaint scientific protocol, these guys knew the raw data they obtained were an inconvenient truth, so they "lost" them. These "scientists" were determined to prove global warming by faith alone, not by any credible methodology or empirical evidence. To those of us who have long been skeptical about man's influence on global temperatures, the timing of these leaked e-mails just ahead of the Copenhagen climate summit couldn't be better. But wait, something's wrong. The damning evidence hasn't raised a peep of alarm from the global-warming cultists. Professor Trevor Davies of the East Anglia CRU called the hacked e-mails "the latest example of a campaign intended 'to distract from reasoned debate' about global climate change ahead of the Copenhagen summit." Reasoned debate. Ha ha, that's a good one. It's well-documented that any scientist who argues against global warming is ridiculed and discredited. Global warming has gone beyond the realm of science into the mysticism of religion. It can only be believed on faith, not facts. No one dares question the Church of Global Warming. Reasoned debate has no place in climate change discussions for the simple reason that its believers aren't scientists – they're religious converts who think altering the data and silencing critics is fine if it advances the cause.
