Stepping on the gas stimulus ~ By Terry Keenan

Yes, Americans are happy gas prices are down, but that’s not enough to counter the malaise they are feeling in other parts of their wallets. It is also a bad forward indicator of economic strength in 2015.

May 16, 1961 – October 23, 2014
Sadly, I would not have known about this column by Terry Keenan had she not suddenly passed away last week. At the very young age of 53, Terry is tragically gone. It was very sudden, a cerebral hemorrhage. I learned about it on theblaze.com. Because their story lacked information I wanted to know, I had to dig a little further into Terry's life, especially her editorial columnist work in the New York Post. That is how I found out about this editorial column that she wrote a week ago. As it turns out, this would be Terry's last column.

But there is something that was just a bit surreal for me regarding this column. The night before I found this column, I had been at a social gathering. Somebody said that it was just another political trick to lower gas prices right before this election. That was when I replied, "No, you better worry about a sharp decline in oil prices, because that is only going to happen when the demand for energy declines. And why would that happen? Think about it; the global economy is going into a slump." The people that I told that to, being mostly conservatives like me, nodded their heads in solemn agreement.

As Terry wrote, "It is also a bad forward indicator of economic strength in 2015." So, before reading this column by Terry, I was already on the same page. I know that it would seem that lower fuel costs will give Americans more available finances, but it may not work out that way. With lower energy prices, won't that also mean that the newly revived energy industry in America will also see lower revenues from their products?

And now for a reminder from Niel Cavuto just what Terry meant to us viewers.

RIP, Terry.  Just sayin'...

Stepping on the gas stimulus

From nypost.com

Put this in the category of “be careful what you wish for” — certainly on this, the 27th anniversary of the 1987 stock market crash.

Oil, and with it, the price of gasoline, has plummeted about 10 percent over the past 10 days. According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of gas is hovering just above $3.15 a gallon, with prices below $3 in many parts of the nation.

Here in New York City, prices are at levels not seen since 2011.

All this, as much of the Middle East is literally in flames.

Citigroup put out a report on Friday that estimates the drop in gas prices to multiyear lows will add $1.1 trillion to the US economy — a “stimulus package” on steroids that would best the TARP bailout of October 2008.

Obviously, the drop in gas prices is great for drivers and typically a boon for the US retail economy. The less money you spend on gas, the more you can spend on other items.

But not so fast.

Former U.S. counterterror chief: 'Imminent threat' remains ~ By Kevin Liptak

"I think it's unlikely that threat's altogether been eliminated," Olsen said, adding that some senior leaders with the group had been killed.

Before the strikes began in Syria, U.S. government officials had barely acknowledged the presence of Khorasan, which formed from former al Qaeda members. Sources have said the group has the same aim as ISIS: recruiting and training foreign fighters who could return home to stage attacks.

While Olsen said foreign fighters present a broad risk to Americans' security, the potential for so-called "lone wolf" attacks by unaffiliated terrorists also worries officials.
The Khorasan Group (which can also be spelled as "Khorosan" Group) is a threat, even after U.S. airstrikes. However, I beg to differ.  The 'imminent threat' of "Khorasan" may remain, but I don't think it is THE imminent threat that this country is facing. Our enemy may be here already. The truly imminent threat: the homegrown, lone wolf ("non-affiliated") terrorist. ISIS has already found out that it's easy to brainwash those that are newly radicalized Islamists via the social networks (youtube, Facebook).

However, there is a way to counter that problem of homegrown terrorists. Help them on their way to paradise by paying their way over to Syria/Iraq (the Islamist State).

Here is part of my idea, with credit to Greg Gutfeld:

Hey, here is the rest of the idea: Give those that want to go to Syria/Iraq to fight for ISIS a pre-paid VISA card, don't confiscate their passport, and track their every move. Place a tracking chip on every card or passport, but put a $100 thousand on the card so they won't get rid of it, no matter what. They'll be vaporized long before they can use the full amount. Or, they'll just go to Vegas, get drunk, and fall of a balcony from their 18th floor penthouse. Either way, the problem of the lone wolf homegrown terrorist will be over, and it won't cost that much. Just sayin'...

Former U.S. counterterror chief: 'Imminent threat' remains
By Kevin Liptak

Tuesday, October 21, 2014 ~ Updated 7:28 PM EDT

From CNN.com

Washington (CNN) - The former head of U.S. counterterror operations said Tuesday the "imminent threat" posed by an al Qaeda offshoot in Syria hasn't lessened after a U.S. air campaign there.

Speaking to CNN's Jim Sciutto, Matt Olsen said by his analysis the threat from the Khorasan group "is still in the same place as it was before" President Barack Obama ordered airstrikes against the terror operation last month.

"This group was in a position to train without any sort of interference, they were able to recruit operatives," said Olsen, who stepped down as director of the National Counterterrorism Center in September. "We saw that they were looking to test explosives. So they were in the advanced stages of plotting. They had both intent and that capability that put them nearing an execution phase of an attack."

President Obama announced strikes against Khorasan in September at the same time he began the mission to "degrade and destroy" the Islamic State terror group in Syria and Iraq. At the time, senior officials described the threat posed by Khorasan as "imminent."

VIDEO: Are we prepared for a "Dark Winter" terrorist attack?

Update
RELATED LINK:
The Dark Winter exercise, held at Andrews AFB, Washington, DC, June 22-23, 2001, portrayed a fictional scenario depicting a covert smallpox attack on US citizens. The scenario is set in 3 successive National Security Council (NSC) meetings (Segments 1, 2 and 3) that take place over a period of 14 days. Former senior government officials played the roles of NSC members responding to the evolving epidemic; representatives from the media were among the observers of these mock NSC meetings and played journalists during the scenario's press conferences.

Former Atheist Academic Who Rejected God and Believed ‘Smart People Don’t Become Christians’ Reveals What Changed Her Mind Entirely ~ By Billy Hallowell

It’s a view she now fully repudiates — and her journey to that conclusion is a fascinating one.

Growing up in a nominally Christian home which she described as unreligious, Ordway said that she ended up going off to college, where she embraced the “pervasive assumption that secularism was simply true — that naturalism, evolution — all that explained everything.

Faith was a nice thing people did as a hobby or cultural thing,” she recalled believing at the time.

Ordway said it took about 10 years before she began asking the questions that led her out of atheism and into the Christian realm.

Having read Christian writers like J. R. R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis as a child and during her college years, she said that the writings stuck with her and made an impact despite her atheistic worldview.

It really was a total coincidence. I had a movie DVD from Netflix for a couple weeks that I hadn't watched yet. I finally got around to watching it Friday night. And then, by sheer chance, while checking out the stories on theblaze.com, I found this column. Included in the title that drew me here, "Former Atheist Academic" sounded distinctly familiar:
When college student Josh Wheaton encounters an atheistic philosophy teacher who insists that his students will only pass by admitting that God is dead, Josh dedicates himself to proving the professor wrong about God.
That was the description on the DVD sleeve of the movie I watched. I'm sure many people have already figured it out, but the movie was "God's Not Dead."

I knew that the movie hit a special place in my heart upon seeing it. I actually noted that on my Facebook page, Johnny2k's America:
Hey, you all! I never would have believed that a post of mine would ever go viral, which sounds so crass with the Ebola thing going on. But it really happened. Over 24,000 "people reached", 229 shares.

It's all good, I took a night off, and watched an amazing film. While I was feeling great about reaching so many people with a blog I posted, I got thinking, did it make a difference? Maybe I could have made a lot more difference, had I reached just one person, with the message:

God's not dead!
This story about the former atheist academic verifies what the movie "God's Not Dead," though fictional, was illustrating. Many in academia would prefer a secular, God-less America.  Not just Christianity, but any religious belief that you are free to have, is being attacked by the "intellectual elite" snobs in academia.  However, they tend to pick on the Christians the most.  And make no mistake about it, the amount of intimidation of Christians, either students or faculty, that happens on college campuses across the country is staggering.

Though I know that this blog post, or the movie "God's Not Dead," probably won't change anything, it would be an interesting study to observe these same intellectuals staring death in the face and see how many of them decide to rethink their stance. There's an old war-time saying that goes something like this: "There are no atheists in the foxholes." Just sayin'...

Former Atheist Academic Who Rejected God and Believed ‘Smart People Don’t Become Christians’ Reveals What Changed Her Mind Entirely
By Billy Hallowell

From theblaze.com

Dr. Holly Ordway
As an atheist Dr. Holly Ordway had always felt like she wasn’t quite “God’s type” — that is, until she says she began deeply questioning the ins and outs of the Christian faith.

In her autobiography, “Not God’s Type: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms,” Ordway, who directs the Master of Arts in Apologetics Masters program at Houston Baptist University, tackles how she transitioned from an atheist who wasn’t interested in the Almighty to a fervent Christian.

The title [of the book] reflects pretty much my attitude before I was a Christian,” Ordway recently told TheBlaze. “If I even gave any thought to whether God existed, I thought, ‘It’s not for me … it’s fine for other people, they like that sort of thing.’ I was very much not God’s type.

As an English professor who looked more at the Bible as a piece of ancient literature than anything to be literally revered or followed, she admitted to once believing that “smart people don’t become Christians.”

It was more the absence of positive evidence and the general cultural attitude,” Ordway said of her belief that intelligent individuals couldn’t possibly embrace biblical teaching.

ISIS Plans On Sending Muslims Infected With Ebola Into America To Infect And Kill Americans ~ By Theodore Shoebat and Walid Shoebat

New estimates by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are warning that the number of Ebola cases could soar dramatically in the weeks and months ahead. The CDC says that unless efforts to curb the outbreak are ramped up significantly and quickly, the disease could infect up to 1.4 million people by mid-January in two nations, Sierra Leone and Liberia, alone.

Some epidemiologists are saying that there will be between 77,000 and 277,000 cases of ebola by the end of 2014.

This is not exactly a new story. It's been around, mostly since ISIS and Ebola both became bigger news stories than the 2014 Midterm elections here in the U.S. In fact, I found a story when searching Google that came out on September 16, 2014 which does a great job informing ISIS of the ideas that won't work. Yes, that's right. ISIS set up a forum where their members could post ideas on how to spread Ebola virus in America and other places (including Mecca, during the Hajj!).

Yes, based on my search on Google, the story grew legs in very early October, but has since died out.  That's possibly good news.  But then, maybe not, as other ideas may have been developed that do have a plausible chance to work, and the ISIS group is keeping it quiet.

But here is the related story that concerns me the most:  WARNING: ISIS’ New Secret Weapon Against America Could Connect Two Deadly Threats.
In a little-noticed report, the Israel News Agency says the deadly Ebola virus may be spreading among ISIS fighters in Syria. The report refers to a study by Israeli security forces that notes the likely source of the infection:
…dozens of ISIS terrorists have come down with symptoms identical to the killer virus which has claimed over 6,574 victims in five West African countries – Senegal and Nigeria are the other two – with 3,091 deaths reported.
We know that ISIS has training camps in Africa and it is highly possible that this is where contact with the disease was made,” said Avi, a global, anti-terrorism consultant.

While Western nations fighting the Islamic State might consider this reported Ebola outbreak among radical jihadists to be welcome news, there is a very big, very dangerous downside to Islamic terrorists being carriers of the virus.
Well, not that we'd want to now worry about illegal border crossings along the border with Mexico, or anything... The government officials of the CDC can't even keep wayward health care workers from taking flights and endangering many people. Just sayin'...

ISIS Plans On Sending Muslims Infected WIth Ebola Into America To Infect And Kill Americans
By Theodore Shoebat and Walid Shoebat

October 1, 2014

From Shoebat.com

ISIS threatened the United States, and the allies to spread the Ebola virus, within those states, if continues to wage war on the organization inside Syria and Iraq.

ISIS explained that among the viruses that its members can “synthesize and produce” are “Ebola and Corona”. ISIS also said,
"followers and soldiers of the Islamic State are mostly suicide bombers and all of them are ready not only to carry Ebola, but to drink Ebola if they were asked to carry and spread it in the United States. This is not difficult but we need a decision from the leaders jihadist."

Ebola could easily be transmitted through bodily fluids, including sweat, tears, saliva, blood, urine, semen, etc., including objects that have come in contact with bodily fluids (such as bed sheets, clothing, and needles) and corpses.

It is said that “this disease will go airborne, and there are many other mechanisms through which mutation might make it much more transmissible.

The statement from ISIS said that
"the process of spreading disease is not difficult, it is easily transported in a bottle in your bag and take them from Africa to America and open in a air-conditioning duct or put it in the public drinking water by elevator doors"
The statement from ISIS also said:
"the process of cultivating bacteria can be done by any student in the Faculty of Science or Department of Biology. They do not need complex laboratories and even a makeshift laboratory can be made in a small apartment in which we can farm millions of germs and viruses"

The Texas Nurse Who Contracted Ebola Was Wearing a Protective Suit. She’s Not the First Western Health Professional to Have a Suit Fail Her ~ By Zach Noble

Two days after a man in Texas was diagnosed with Ebola,
Dr. Gil Mobley, a Missouri doctor, checked in and boarded a plane
dressed in full protection gear Thursday morning, Oct. 2, 2014,
at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. He was
protesting what he called mismanagement of the crisis by the
federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
(AP Photo/Atlanta Journal-Constitution, John Spink)
In the case of the Texas nurse, it remains to be seen how she contracted the virus — but Dr. Tom Frieden, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Sunday that the CDC would investigate safety protocol breaches at Texas Presbyterian hospital, specifically examining how health workers removed their protective gear after treating the first U.S. Ebola patient.

In other words, the Texas nurse may have made the same mistakes the Spanish health worker made.

The failure of protective gear highlights the intense need for proper medical training, Larry Greenemeier noted in Scientific American prior to Sunday’s news, and the failure also serves to shine a spotlight on how easily the disease can be spread.

Greenemeier noted that Ebola can be spread through contaminated bodily fluids, including mucus and vomit, meaning that, for instance, if an infected person sneezed on a tabletop and someone else later touched the tabletop, they could potentially catch the virus.
In a story I wrote about over the weekend, the nephew of the deceased Patient #1 is blaming racism on his uncle's death.  We need to be clear here, perfectly clear:  Thomas Eric Duncan was able to pay for an airline ticket to come to the U.S., and lied about his contact with other Ebola victims in Liberia.  Not only does the passing of Mr. Duncan have nothing to do with racism, but because of his actions, there will be more illnesses, as this story tells us about.

But, wait, this story is saying that it was a problem with the equipment or possible errors made by the nurse who has now been infected that had been treating Mr. Duncan at Texas Presbyterian hospital.  Or that maybe it "highlights the intense need for proper medical training."  But, is there yet to be any blame leveled on Patient #1, Thomas Eric Duncan, for coming to the United States from Liberia, knowing that he was most likely infected?  Of course not!  Somebody might say that was racist!  Just sayin'...

The Texas Nurse Who Contracted Ebola Was Wearing a Protective Suit. She’s Not the First Western Health Professional to Have a Suit Fail Her
Ebola is spreading, and modern protective suits are failing to stop it.
By Zach Noble

October 12, 2014 10:22am

From TheBlaze.com

As news erupted Sunday morning that a female nurse in Texas had been infected with Ebola, perhaps the most frightening part of the story was the revelation that she came in contact with the first U.S. Ebola patient during his second hospital visit — meaning she didn’t catch the virus unawares, before health workers knew the man had Ebola.

Rather, she was fully dressed in a protective suit — gown, gloves, mask and shield — when she interacted with the man who since died of his Ebola infection.

But the case in Texas is not the first time that protective suits have failed in the developed world.

Spanish health worker Maria Teresa Romero Ramos, the first person to contract Ebola outside of Africa, was also wearing full protective gear when the virus was transmitted to her in a Madrid hospital.

The important question: Why do these protective suits keep failing?

Ebola Victim’s Nephew Says Uncle Died for a Simple Reason: ‘He’s a Black Man’ Without Insurance ~ By Zach Noble

Had [Duncan's] been another name, you know, or another color, he would probably be living today and he would have survived it,” Weeks told CNN. “And that’s what’s really hurting me the most is because they treated him the way they did because of the color of his skin, and that’s very upsetting and disturbing, and know that you stand a chance if you’re white, but you don’t if you’re black.

Just yesterday, I wrote the following:
You may want to brace yourself. I hope I don't give anyone any ideas, but I would imagine that somebody like Al Sharpton has thought of this by now. It's amazing he is not already out demonstrating by that Dallas hospital that sent Thomas Eric Duncan home from the ER on his first visit. And now, it comes out that there are big financial costs when taking care of people sick from Ebola. Just add it up, there's going to be concerns, and they may be legitimate in this case.
Not only do I have no need to walk that statement back, I can stand by it, and say, "See, I told you so." I believe that I was absolutely correct on two points that I made. I knew the race card would be played soon, and I believed that it was going to be a big problem because Patient #1 was sent home when he should have been kept at the hospital and immediately get treatment that could have saved him. It may have all been a tragic blunder by hospital personnel, but it doesn't look good at all. It's all about the appearance that Mr. Duncan was treated with the lack of concern that was deserved in his case.

If you are trying to follow what I'm saying, good luck with that. Whether it was racism or incompetence, this is going to come back to bite the hospital in big ways, especially if Mr. Duncan's condition after the hospital release ends up infecting others. The problem is, I don't know if it would be better or worse if it was because of racism and him being poor without insurance, or because of incompetence. It's absolutely disturbing, either way. Just sayin'...

Ebola Victim’s Nephew Says Uncle Died for a Simple Reason: ‘He’s a Black Man’ Without Insurance

Thomas Eric Duncan
Thomas Eric Duncan, the first patient diagnosed with Ebola inside the U.S., died on Wednesday, and as questions surrounded his treatment (or lack thereof), a family member implied that racism and callous disregard for the poor were responsible for Duncan’s death.

On CNN’s “OutFront” Saturday morning, Duncan’s nephew Josephus Weeks speculated that race played a role in the Texas hospital’s decision to release his uncle while the man had a raging fever.

He’s the only person that has died from Ebola here in America,” Weeks said. “He’s a black man. He’s poor, didn’t have insurance.”

VIDEO: Costs... Mark my words, the race card is going to be played soon!

Newly Vigilant, U.S. Will Screen Fliers for Ebola ~ By Sabrina Tavernise

Experts cautioned that a temperature check on arrival would almost certainly not have detected that Mr. Duncan had Ebola before he entered the country. The disease typically incubates for eight to 10 days before symptoms, including fever, develop.

American health officials believe Mr. Duncan did not have a fever when he arrived in the United States, a view seconded by his family. “There’s a sense that this is a be-all-and-end-all and that this will put up an iron curtain, but it won’t,” said Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University. “At the very most, all we are buying here is some reduction of anxiety.” He added, “That’s worth something because, at the moment, we have a much larger outbreak of anxiety than we have of Ebola.

In the age of very short attention spans, especially with online news sites and subsequent emails trying to get views of their stories, the titles of stories are more important than ever. Not being a frequent reader of the stories on nytimes.com, I am still signed up for their daily email summary of stories I can find on their website for that day. This was the case today, when I saw the title to this story in the email, I was immediately drawn to click on the link so I could see what this story was all about.

The first two words of the story got my attention in less than a nanosecond. "Hmmm," I thought, "what is meant by 'newly vigilant' when it comes to screening for passengers that might have Ebola? You mean, our government was formerly NOT being very vigilant?"

As the author properly points out in her story, screening efforts - no matter how vigilant - would not have prevented Thomas Eric Duncan, now deceased from Ebola, from traveling to the Dallas area from Liberia, where the efforts to quell an Ebola outbreak is failing miserably.

And speaking of vigilance, the hospital where Mr. Duncan first went to the emergency room, sent him home, even while he was displaying possible characteristics of symptoms of being infected with Ebola and telling a nurse that he had very recently arrived from Liberia! Or how about the vigilance that was greatly lacking when it came to disinfecting the apartment complex where Mr. Duncan had stayed?

Well, let's talk about vigilance for a moment. Or, rather, the lack of being vigilant when we should be extremely vigilant when any crisis first pops up it's ugly head. Such an example would be allowing ISIS to take a large part of Iraq that our military fought so valiantly for, and then doing nothing about it until suddenly, ISIS puts up videos of Americans getting decapitated. And even yet, I do not count it as being a vigilant response when our dear leader promises us (and the enemy) that our efforts won't include U.S. soldiers on the ground (and yet, plans to send 4,000 military personnel into harms way in Western Africa!).

While trying to drive home the point, I'm sorry if this story ends up being a big buzz-kill despite the promising sounding title. Oh, but wait, there is more party-crashing news in this story. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) had been calling for travel restrictions to and from Ebola-ravaged Western African countries, but once again, the administration proves it's lack of vigilant actions and refuses to do something that sounds so logical. In her Opening Statement on Justice last Saturday night, Judge Jeanine Pirro tells us exactly what the government needs to be doing, all great advice that is so obviously being ignored.

I highly commend Sabrina Tavernise for this story, and the attention-grabbing title (that perhaps an editor came up with).  It was courageous of her to point out just how much vigilant behavior seems to be lacking across the land.   But the President has it covered:
The new requirement of temperature checks has broad implications for health departments across the country.

In a conference call with state and local officials Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Obama expressed confidence in the procedures already in place to prevent the spread of Ebola, but urged them to be vigilant in the days and weeks ahead.

As we saw in Dallas, we don’t have a lot of margin for error,” Mr. Obama told the group, according to a transcript released by the White House. “If we don’t follow protocols and procedures that are put in place, then we’re putting folks in our communities at risk.
Umm, Mr. President Obola, how about some protocols and procedures that will actually stop Ebola from coming into the U.S., either by any air travel, from anywhere, or by protecting our Southern border (finally)? Just sayin'....

Newly Vigilant, U.S. Will Screen Fliers for Ebola
By Sabrina Tavernise

October 8, 2014

From nytimes.com

ATLANTA — Federal health officials will require temperature checks for the first time at five major American airports for people arriving from the three West African countries hardest hit by the deadly Ebola virus. However, health experts said the measures were more likely to calm a worried public than to prevent many people with Ebola from entering the country.

Still, they constitute the first large-scale attempt to improve security at American ports of entry since the virus arrived on American soil last month.

They are also a notable policy shift at a time of rising concern about the disease. Public health officials had initially resisted the move, saying such checks would be an unnecessary use of thinly stretched resources. But pressure for tougher action mounted. Republicans sharply criticized President Obama for what they called a lax response. Many, including Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, have suggested looking at air travel restrictions from West Africa, something the administration has rejected.
